Big problem with HD2. Need help please. - HD2 General

Hi all, I've a big problem with my HD2. It was working fine for two months, but last week, with the battery very low (2 %) started the problems. I've tried to do almost anything, Hard Reset, install official Roms, custom Roms, (always with MTTY) and still the same.
In short, these are the symptoms:
1 .- Right Button (Power Button) does not work.
2 .- The Action Screen (thas should start by Long pressing the Power button), always starts at the boot.
3 .- I can't switch off the HD2. I can only do it by removing the battery completely, and as soon as I put it in the device, always restarts by itself.
I think it must be something regarding the BIOS (and is not deleted when reflashing the ROM) what is causing this behavior. I don't know if through the registry could be fixed this but it is my hope.
I hope anyone can help me. Thank you very much

Reflash, but, use Task29 or MTTY first. That will complete format your device, so you will get a completely fresh/clean flash.

Im positive that all of this is caused by a stuck power button. Its just pressed all the time, and therefore it cannot be pressed. Hope this helps.

yea I agree it sounds like a faulty button, or maybe circuitry beneath the buttons.

x7501 trouble with wake-up.

I just got my advantage a couple of days ago. i haven't had much time to use it yet, because of work. i haven't installed any sofware. Sometimes my device simpy won't wake-up. After soft feset, the only thing i did was connect a bluetooth headset, which worked fine. I turned off the screen, and when i came back to my device, about two hours later, it would not wake-up. I had to soft reset. This has happened a few times. Also, its very slow with entering text (When i finished typing the word 'text', 'soft reset' was just being entered on the screen.) It would be worse, but i stop to let it catch up, and check for typos.
It is really annoying to buy a new device and have to put up with this crap. Any help is appreciated.
If it were me, I would try a 'Hard Reset' and if that did not clear up the problem, call HTC for a warranty replacement. Hard Reset is hold the volume slider down while clicking the reset button on back of the device.

I'm not having the issues with it not waking up, but recently I've had the issues with randomly occuring extreme slowdown, similar slow text entry, quick battery run down and insanely slow screen redrawing and general responsiveness to hardware of screen based input. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, trying to isolate software that might be causing it. So far it seems that the Illiumsoft Newsbreak feed reader I had been using for months without issue might be related to the problem, but I'm wondering if the problem isn't software specific but actually just related to data downloading activity. Thus far, I'm a couple days in without Newsbreak and no occurances of the problem...
Have you tried tapping the button on the lower right side of the phone (power button) sometimes mine does the same thing, good luck...TJ
i am going to hard reset, but with no software installed i dont know that this will help. i am considering switching to the (whats it called, black touch) rom. i dont know f this will help my current issue, but it sure looks nice. on all of my previous devices, i've always used the factory rom, and i'm somewhat clueless and intimidated by the whole process. I just dont want to screw up my new device. if anyone can help with any of these issues, please do.

Concerning the warranty replacement, i bought this from a guy on ebay. It was still in the sealed box with compusa sticker on it, but i'm not sure if the warranty is transferable. Maybe if i could get him to send his receipt I would covered at least from his date of purchase. Anyone know specifics about the manufacturers warranty?

Perhaps you could help me fix that problem by telling me how to install the black touch rom without screwing it up.
I'm obviously no developer, nor expert in any type of computer skills. I come to this forum because I love the device, my issues are usually resolved after some discussion here, the people are mostly friendly, and i'm interested in making my device better. I just need some help to do so.

If you press the power quickly and lightly it should come back to
standard Today screen versus pressing and holding which brings up
the power off "pop up",at least that how my 7501 responds.
You may want to try that hard reset then play with Start/Settings
/System/Power.

i understand that the buttons respond differently depending on how you press them (press and release, press and hold, etc.) The problem is sometimes, usually when i'm working and away from my phone for awhile, the device simply won't wake-up (power button or any other button pressed in anyway does nothing.) after a soft reset eveything seems fine. this has probably happened 4-5 times in 3 days. After hard reset its only happened once.
Sometimes my device doesn't seem to respond when i plug in the charger, nothing lights up. I've also noticed everytime i check .the battery meter, its alway a denomination of 10 (10%, 20%, 30%). I was sure this was going to be a great device, but i'm beginning to have my doubts.

I had experienced this before but it is so rare that it's hardly worth mentioning. Are you using WM5 or WM6?
It is normal that the battery strength shows in increment of 10%.
If hard reset does not solve the problem, I would try to re-flash the ROM and see if the problem goes away.

[Q] please help me to save my hd2

my phone hang with wite htc logo.i tride to hard reset,i faild.i could not put the device in boot loader mode.please help me. thank you
additional details please?
like what did you do before it starts to hang at boot screan, what hacks do you have installed e.e. magldr, hspl, sspl ??
those would really help
by the way you sure you cannot boot into bootloader the tri-colour screen?
To put the device into bootloader mode,
hold the volume down button and press the reset button, or else, switch off the phone (by removing battery), hold the volume down button while you switch it on. This must take you to the tricolor bootloader.
The stuck might have caused due to improper flash or something which doesn't match, a bad radio or so.
Its important for you to get into the bootloader, to flash either from Sync or SD Card.
All the best.

So, you said you cant go into bootloader mode.
How about retry it but following this way.
-Remove your battery and wait for minutes (maybe 10 minutes)
-Reinsert the battery. Dont turn it on.
-Charge your phone and check whether the phone is charging (you should check the led indicator. if it is full, the color should be green).
-After that, press volume down button and power on button at the same time (dont miss it).
-If you still cant go into bootloader mode, I would suggest you to bring it to Repair center.
Goodluck
I see, its not going into the bootloader, so can the problem be with the volume buttons? Are you sure they are functional?
Is your phone turning on, getting to the HTC logo and then turning off again by itself? This was happening to me just tonight. Just try putting the battery in the freezer for 20 minutes or so. That did the trick for me.
hello
thanks guys,i tried every thingas you said.no use.so i took the device to service center.they told me that, the only thing is to recover the phone is replacing the mother board.it is costing nearly 200 usd.

Which one was it a bad connection with your processor from overheating or machanical shock, or was it a bad NAND chip? These are the two things I was thinking as I have been following this thread.

i think it is because bad nand chip.
Was the phone functional before? What OS you had?
I've seen this on about 3-4 of the over 75 HD2's I've JTAG'ed. It's a faulty NAND chip that overheats causing this problem. Unfortunately, there is no logical fix for this.

[Q] Touchscreen semi-unresponsiveness?

I've looked around and a lot of people have fully unresponsive screens. However, mine is I guess semi-unresponsive?
I can perform all my functions fine, but when I try to power down my phone via power button. It pops up the power menu and then my screen becomes completely unresponsive. I can only use the hard buttons, but nothing on the screen works. When I press the power button again to go into standby, it'll work like normal and my screen works again, all until I try to go to the power menu again. Does anyone know what is wrong?
I forgot which HD2 I'm using, but I know I bought it in the June of it's release and I'm in the US.
My current ROM is HyperDroid-GBX-v12, but I don't think it's a ROM issue since the previous ROM I had was even worse, same problems, but unresponsive at the lock screen at times.
Thanks, and let me know if I can give any other info.
Has this been happening since you flashed the Rom or is this a new problem?
This has just started happening. I think it was present to a lesser extent before, but I am noticing a lot more recently. I flashed a new ROM because I thought it was my old ROM, but the problem isn't going away.
For a work around, download the quick boot app from the market and power your phone off that way.
What Rom are you running now btw?
My current ROM is HyperDroid-GBX-v12,
Thanks for the work around, but I'm really wondering what the problem is since it persists between ROMs. I'm thinking hardware, but then it's so specific that I'm not sure.
The only other think I can think of trying to wipe your phone via CWR by formatting data, boot, system, Sd-ext (if applies), cache, and Dalvik cache. I know you re-flashed your Rom already but did you do a full wipe prior? It could be data corruption from the previous Rom. Just trying to troubleshoot
I'm currently having touchscreen issues myself. At first I though mine was totally hosed but then I read on some thread if you press the power button hard it can revive the screen. It worked for me. I assume there must be some loose cable somewhere beneath the power button that's causing these issues. It's probably just a coincidence that it stops working when you hold it down and you are really having the same issue as me.
I did wipe everything, but now I think of it I think I forgot to format my SD card. I'll try it now thanks.
Nope, still doesn't work. I'm at a lost for what's wrong right now =\

Be careful about mashing the power button too hard. I already have broke one HD2 because the power button cracked.....

Sorry to hear this. Like I said earlier try using Quick boot. It won't fix your problem but at least your phone will still work. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance....

someone save my phone..plzzzzzz it won't turn on

so like...my phone cant turn on at all..no lights..no response..it's like practically dead..im sure the battery is fully charged...but the phone isn't working at all..i don't know what to do..i did everything possible to reset it and everything..i've done everything i can to it..and kept myself from throwing it across my room..so...anyone have any idea of what happened to my phone?..or what i can do to fix it..?
/cry
What operating system (WM/Android/WP7)/bootloader (magldr/clk) do you have insralled?
Did it work before and suddenly now it won't, or did it never boot up since you got it?
Did you do something like trying to flash a rom, install HSPL or an android bootloader, or is the phone stock WM?
Does it vibrate or anything when you try to boot up, or just no response at all?
Check your battery pins where the phone connects to the battery, maybe one of them is bent and not contacting the battery properly.

uhm...what..? *cough*..it's..a windows phone..i bought it when it first came out..and it works ok..for awhile i suppose...erm..im not a techie geek...so..you lost you after the first question...and it doesn't vibrate or anything anymore..it's as if..it's like a stone..no lights or anything..if i plug it in onto my computer it makes funny noises..and it's like the computer doesnt know i have it plugged in..and if i unplug it..it makes that weird noise computers make when you unplug something...so..i get like no responses from it..nothing..no lights..no sound..nothing (the battery was at 95% charged before it stopped working)
it all happened when...
my phone kept freezing on me every time i get a text (not a text friendly phone is it?)..and i would always just carefully take out the battery n reset my phone..only this time..in the process of it..it just wont reset or turn on anymore.. =[...ooh and there's no physical damage to the phone..all perfectly in mint condition complete with phone covers..screen protectors..and the sticky plastic stuff it came with...
Were you pulling battery to reset phone rather than use reset button next to battery ?
If you have been pulling battery in & out rather a lot checking battery pins as mentioned above would be a good idea.
In the hands of a non "techie geek" these devices are nothing but a problem ...
sms issue sounds like you needed a better ROM installed or perhaps mainboard fault that has esculated !

erm...yea...i did pull the battery in and out a lot...but it was never really a problem..and the pins n stuff are fine..>_< really flexible though..uhm..i also press the reset button a lot...i just thought the phone was soo pretty..cuz of the huge screen..and the awesome camera..i didn't know it would cause me so much trouble..could it be..'cause..i bought the first few phones of it when it first came out..?..i never done anything else to it..too bad tmobile said phone isnt under warranty so i cant replace it..cant afford a new phone..or pay for repairs..so i thought.maybe some techie geek or something could tell me what to do..
could be faulty hardware as reasonbly common but most of your running issues such as freezing on sms sounds like newer or custom ROM flash was needed.
Be 100% sure all flexible pins seem to protrude enough & spaced correctly to contact battery terminals & all are clean.
Couple of questions & things to try>
when plugged to charger does red LED show ?
Does it go to bootloader when you;
While phone is Off - Hold Volume down & press power button (keeping volume down pressed all the time) use reset button to exit bootloader screen
Have you tried hard reseting it !
While phone is on:
Hold Volume up + Volume down & press Reset button
While phone is Off
Hold Volume up + Volume down & press power button

[Q] Broken power button & reboots (both soft & hard)

Hello,
I wonder if someone else had similliar issues as me.
1) My power button got broken few days back. (Probably in the pocket - dunno how) I can press it, but it feels like it is still pressed. Dunno how to explain.. I just can't feel the "click" like on the other buttons and I have to press it quite hard, so it is annoying. It also does not respond correctly, sometimes I have to press on one side, sometimes in another.
Do you have any idea how to fix it? Or the only solution is to send it for warranty repair (I'm trying to keep away from it, since I will have to send it via post & it will take long & I don't have any good backup cell phone). And I dunno if they will approve this for warranty repair, since they can say "it was mechanically damaged" or "it is working - you can use it for pwr on and off" ...
tl;dr: my power button works, but very badly - I can't feel the "click" and I have to press really hard
2) I'm getting soft & sometimes hard reboots. It is VERY annoying (I think I don't have to explain why). Usually it soft/hard reboots when in pocket (and when I'm going on the stairs). It sounds weird, but when I try to repeat it by pressing on various points on the phone - it just does not reboot... So I dunno what it is causing - the only thing I know is, that it is usually when in pocket. Sometimes it just hard reboots when just placed on the desk... But that's occasional, so not a big deal. I've already tried to change ROM (from MIUI to Argen2Stone 3.0, but it did not helped), I've also tried to change VSEL, but it also did not helped
(can you recommend me any particular VSEL, which should really work safely?)
Any idea how to fix it or how to detect what is causing it? Anybody experienced this issue(s) too?
Thanks for any ideas or response.
Sorry for my english - I hope it is clear
Both problems may be caused by hardware, like internal board unaligned with phone chassis, damaged internal button, soldering problems, ... internal button may be almost pressed all the time, causing bounce clicks, shorts, and the difficulty to press, if the external button is not over the right place to press the internal button.
Do not forget to do a backup before you send to assistance.
Thank you for your response (unfortunately not positive for me).
However I don't know how to reproduce the soft/hard reset issue (I can't tell them: "Hey, it's rebooting in my pocket.. just carry it in it and you'll see yourself" :/), so it looks, that I will have to wait, till the power button will broke totally (so I will have a good and "reproducable" reason/issue) :/ I just hope, that they will accept it without any problem, I'm quite afraid, that they will deny it with some sh-- reason, like: "It is mechanical damage, we will not repair it for you" :|
Anyway, I'm accepting any other ideas and recommendations (till the power button will be totally unusable and I will have to send it for warranty repaid immediately).
-- Just one thing came to my mind - maybe I should now remove custom ROM, because I could not restore stock ROM in case, the button will totally broke. (and they will not accept M2 with custom ROM for sure)
