[SOLVED] HD2 not detected as WiFi router - HD2 General

Hi,
I have encountered a problem. My phone when in router mode is not detected by other devices (tried two laptops and another phone with WiFi). I can use my HD2 to connect to wireless networks, but not to share mobile data via WiFi.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem?
Thanks
(ROM 1.48 as there is no official update for my region)

This may not help, but I had a similar issue of devices not seeing my wifi router as the network name I chose had a space in it, removing the space by adding an underscore instead allowed devices to then see the network.

It works for me, THANKS !

WOW - it did work for me too! Huge THANKS
Wonder why HTC set defaul network name with a space if it can cause such problems...

you should change the title to [SOLVED] if that is possible. I bet there are some more people who have probs using that feature.

The HD2 only uses ADHOC connection when being used ad a WiFi router and if your Desire HD does not except ADHOC connections then you will not be abale to use the WiFi from your HD2. I do not know if the Desire HD will except a ADHOC connection or not, I will let you do the research on that. But I doubt that it does as ADHOC connections are primarily a computer to computer type connection.

Can the T-mobile USA version be used as a wireless router?

If I have a laptop and I am a passenger using it in a car, can I take out the T-mobile USA version of the HD2 and have my laptop connect to it to access the internet (using the phone as a router)?

May be not out of the box but you can always update it with a custom rom and get the option to use it as a router

With this Cab installed it can I believe:
http://bwone.com/downloadsthebowmanpackpro2.zip
Take the cab file in the zip and put it on your phone then install.
you can connect the hd2 to the laptop with the usb cable and choose the built in internet sharing application or share via bluetooth. wifi router is a paid program but also excellent program since it turns the hd2 into a wireless router.
It's sad that they've seem to have taken out the native HTC Wifi Router app that was built into the Euro version of this phone...

Yeah, but you can still install the application file in the USA T-mobile version of the HD2 right?
reclaim wifi router with hard reset?
My Tilt had the native internet sharing option hidden. I received advice from this forum to do a "hard reset" followed immediately on boot up by a soft reset. It was great it took off all the AT&T garbage programs and gave back the Internet Sharing and other at&t blocked tools.
Will that work here on the T-Mobile HD2? And how?

Yes
Download the file in the 3rd post in this thread...unzip it on your desktop...copy the HTC WIFI sharing cab file to your HD2 SD Card...use the file explorer on your hd2 to navigate to the SD card...install...surf
Using the Wifi router cab worked flawlessly last week while I was in Vegas. I was using it with my macbook air and no problems.
so this only works for sharing a wifi connection, or will it work for using the cellular network as well?

When you use the WiFi Router Application, it turns your HD2 into a access point. The HD2, now an access point gets connectivity from your 3G/Edge/GPRS Data Connection and transfers it to the device ( notebook, desktop, etc) you connect to the HD2 Router application.
Simply put, you are using the HD2's data(internet) without having to connect cables.
Hope this helps clear things up for you
Thank you,
Monnie
sweet! this is what I was looking for.. did TMo include this application, or does it need to be installed from a separate source?
anyone try it on a mac yet? how is that set up?
edit: nevermind.. this isn't for "tethering"- it's for using your device as a wifi "hotspot", right? so I just open airport and tell it to connect to the name of my hd2 network connection...
wifi sharing
followed the exactsteps works great ....tried it on my iMAC perfect .....
does this only work for mac or does it also work with windows?

I wanted the wifi tethering as well, but when I installed wifi-sharing cab it kind of wigged out my phone a little. No longer allowing me to use wifi on my phone it was thinking I was trying to launch the app and would not connect to my home router. So now I use the Internet Sharing App that comes with the phone. It is super easy to use with no side effects. All you need is a USB. Just go to start/tools/internet sharing. and bingo!

First, try changing the SSID (network name) on the phone...don't use whatever it defaults to, try "pandanet" or something.
Second, I know there's a couple of cabs floating around for the wifi router thing, the one I have attached here is the only one I got working properly..don't know if this is the same one you used or not.

Wifi not working

Hi,
I've a Wildfire and a Touch2. I want to share Touch2's internet with Wildfire using WiFiInternetSharing application in Touch2. The problem is that wildfire does not detect the wifi network. I've tested the Touch2 with Iphone as well as my laptop. Both detects Touch2 as wifi router and works successfully but wildfire doesn't even detect it. I've tested wildfire with my office wifi router and it works fine but not with my touch2. Any suggestions please.

Is it due to the touch 2 creating an adhoc network and the wildfire not supporting ad hoc networks. If so you will need a custom rom

Connecting My Phone To The Internet via Computer

Hello,
I am using an X10i. I've been wondering, are there any ways i can connect my phone to the internet using my computer's modem?
I am not trying to connect my computer to the internet by using my phone as a modem. Do not teach me how to do it. My question and that question are two different questions.
Thanks.
If u have a mac u can use its wirless as a hotspot if u connect it with internet cable. I do that for my phone. Hope this helps
Cheers
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
yeah ,turn your pc into a wifi hotspot..use softwares like virtual wifi router for windows 7
Note:it will work only if u use a cable to connect ur pc and have a jobless wifi in your pc..
you can also connect using bluetooth,i tried once but failed ,didnt tried much,it wasnt worth that much effort!!
pls dont be naive... not every wifi card supports wifi hotspot even with special applications and tools, and the native windows 7 could make only ad-hoc whis is not supported by android 2.1 or 2.2 as I know...I've read many forums and finaly bought wifi router and what I can say its that its really worth to have it...
yeah wifi card also imp..but most modern laptops and PC are quipped with such wifi cards
I can always use my Vaio for wifi hotspots with my X10..never faced any problems!!
It's not possible through USB. It possible with the stock function of win7 or software for your pc. (Only if you got wireless wifi card in it ofcourse)

If this is helpful please click the Thank you button. Thanks good luck
I wonder why there isn't still an app which lets you use your pcs internet through bluetooth?

I'm using Windows 7 native wifi sharing right now, it broadcasts as a regular wifi network with WPA-2. I use it for phones, consoles, etc

Because it will eat batter, no far distance supported and your internet will be ssssssssssssssssssssuper slow.
^^^This is true. At 2.1Mb/sec of throughput, the Bluetooth will be the slow cog in that wheel of connection.

AGAIN!!! Not every wifi card support it!!! I ve tried ale possibilities (ad hoc, bridge) without succeed...with ipod touch 2G, samsungs i8510, i8910 everything worked, so the problem is only with X10 and android!!! You could make wifi hotspot only with newer or supported cars (my NTB is 3 years old and has unsupported intel wifi card) so this is the deal...

It is possible on an HTC phone, so I'm a bit surprised that there isn't an app to allow us to do this.

I wasn't arguing that all cards support it, I was just saying that when it IS compatible with your card, it isn't adhoc.
Try using Connectify on your computer. It is free. If it manages to create the hotspot on your wireless card, your mobile will be able to use the new hotspot connection created. It has worked for at least 3 of my friends and it enables me to share connections on my laptop no matter where I am.

Wifi problem on my hd2

I just got an HD2 (flashed windows 7) and when I try connecting it to my home network, it will say connecting and then after a while it shows "Connection Unsuccessful"
I have a linksys wrt610n router, and i even tried resetting the router but still the problem persists.
First I thought it might be a phone issue, but it was connecting perfectly fine to the local library's hotspot and a starbucks hotspot. So that means, it's definitely something wrong with my house network that it won't let me connect.
All the other devices : ipod touch, laptop, xbox 360, connect fine to the network.
Please help me with this issue, as I am using HD2 without a data plan so without wifi,i cant fully use the functionalities of hd2.
Thanks.
Is your ssid hidden? Wp7 has troubles with that, you could try the wp7 section without sounding cocky, there is a couple of threads mate about it, more help in there.
Sent from my HTC Leo using XDA Premium App
Yeah, even before flashing the rom the same problem existed. I think it's something wrong with my network, as I am able to connect perfectly fine with at a starbucks hotspot.
And no it's not hidden. The networks visible and the name of the network is with spaces -> cow boy , does that make a difference?
do you have mac filtering or anything turned on liked that in the router setup ??
do you have any crazy characters in the password like %^& ??? that could be a prob not sure also check these out looks like it could be a sd card problem, have you ever had it connect using android or winmo 6.5???

Wireless Router Settings to connect to android tablet?

Thought I would post here as people here (HTC Hd2) might have an idea.
I have HTC HD2 running WM6.5 I'm normally able to connect to various laptops using the HTC wireless router no problems.
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (Android) and it can not see the HTC - I note from other threads that this was because the HTC creates an AD Hoc network and android can't see these? (don't really understand the technical issues there!)
I have tried manually setting up a wireless network using settings on my laptop when that is connected but the Tab did not like the settings I used.
Any advice on how to manually setting the network up?

not sure if it'll work for you, but you could try 'WiFi Thether' app
WIFI tethering is from an android OS phone that creates a wifi hotspot that you can then hook up your wifi laptop to.
HTC HD2 phone running wm6.5 has an ad hoc network and that is what the android Tablet can't see.
So I need to work out how the android tablet can see the wm6.6 ad hoc network

oops, somehow did not realise it's the opposite direction, shame on me for overseeing the obvious...
anyway, I had no problem connectiong my CM variation to ad-hoc network on Win XP laptop, so maybe your problem is device-specific,
maybe you'll find some useful ideas here (post 11 ?)
