Hey there, i have a problem with my HTC Magic. I have had it in about 2 months, where it worked fine. Suddenly it couldn't get a signal to a network. When i try to connect to my network it says "Your sim-card dosen't allow a connection to this network" can anyone help me out with this? I've got HTC Sense on my mobile.
Same issue with stock Donut
I too experienced the same problem when traveling through Atlanta airport. This was a stock MyTouch Donut. After arriving at my next destination my phone worked once again.
I have initially rooted my phone today with Cyanogen latest. I am looking for the fastest ROM I can find without all the bells and whistles. After finding said such, I will be updating my radio.
I have had other strange issues with the radio on this phone. T-MO support suggested replacing the phone. However, I don't think the phone is the problem it's their lack of bug fixes.
I've got the same problem, 2 different sim cards on 2 different networks and both are showing no service and not finding any networks, but both are working in my old Nokia E65. Strangest thing, I checked my email over 3G earlier today, an hour later no service and has not changed since. Tried everything I can think of; nandroid restore, hard reset, safe mode, checked the testing menu. Only thing I haven't done is unroot and return to stock. It's funny, I always knew something would go wrong with this phone... Womans intuition maybe?
Willing to try anything that anyone has to suggest so I don't have to send it back to vodafone!
yea, i've tried everything too, at can't get it to work! - hope someone got a solution to this!

Well I called HTC and got the name of their authorised repairer in Australia (currently on an extended holiday visiting family here), so I unrooted and returned to stock but the issues haven't changed, so I guess we can nail down that it has nothing to do with the rom itself. The repairer did hint at a motherboard issue, but as I was playing the dumb blonde at the time I didn't push it too far until I send it off. It's just painful, I've searched and searched for a fix but most people seem to be able to find a network after a reboot or by simply waiting it out. 24 hours without my Magic being able to function in it's primary use, as a phone. This is very very poor.
I have had the exact same problem, so I unrooted and all. send it in for repairs. and all Vodacom(South Africa) told me was that they replaced the main board.luckly its covered by the warrenty. hope it helps..

Thank awesome to hear its a simple fix, but not so great that it's not a totally rare incident. I'm waiting til all the fuss of Easter is over to send my poor baby off to be fixed, but in the mean time I've bought a Hero so I'll never have to go back to my Nokia E65 again. I'm wondering, as there are other Magic owners with the same problem, is this an issue with just the Magic, or all HTC devices?
hey i still have the same prob with my 32b
i will do a radio update,
will see if it's fixed then,
if not i try to unroot
This has to be almost a year old lol.

OK, I know that may look like a dumb question (and maybe it is!!!)
I have just unlocked my Vario 2 using the "Pof" method with both Sim and SuperCID.
Problem is, my phone needs to be sent back (long story - but basically I am getting a replacement Vario 3). Now obviously I am concerned they will tell me "sorry youve been playing with your phone sonny - its no longer under warrenty", so need to get it back to factory settings if I can.
I appreciate a hard reset will basically wipe any files I have, contacts and settings etc, but will this remove the unlocks that have been done? ie It really does go back to factory settings - or do these unlocks stay on there?
I have been searching the forum and WIKI, but not found the solution. I did think I would need to install a T-Mobile Rom - but all I could find was a hungarian version - which whilst in English, would probably look worse than as I currently have it!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT:
For the record, if it makes any difference:
ROM Version 1.21.110.3
Rom Date 06/19/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Herm300 IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.0lipro
a hard reset simply formats the internal drive on the phone and resets it to the factory settings.
generally t mobile wont bother looking at things like that, i unlocked my vario, dropped it, it smashed, they just replaced it after trying to repair it.
A few people have flashed new roms and bricked it, sent it back, tmobile are none the wiser, they are probably unaware people to this to their handsets!
we are all just stupid customers as far as they are concerned!
personally i wouldnt worry about it!

OK thanks for that. So I assume a hard reset will not over write anything regarding the bootloader radio change and unlocks? I appreciated that it resets the OS - hence the question.
I agree that they probably wouldnt in most cases look into the phone and check, but they have put a note on my account about "charging if not found faulty".
The problem I have been getting is missing calls - even if I am in a strong signal area. I actually work at Waterloo Railway station - and I would doubt too many places would get a better signal! An incoming call is made, my phone doesnt ring and the caller gets a single ring, then nothing. From what I can now gather, this may be to do with the cell shaking hands but not really being connected. ie the phone/cell are duping each other. This appears to be a 3G issue (so is probably likely to still be there on exchange.) Now the silly thing I have noticed; the phone seemed fine until I got web'n'walk put back on and the problem happens once I have been online. Strangely at the moment, I dont think the problem is persisiting (ie Im not aware of missing calls - though of course thats difficult to quantify unless someone tells me!)
Anyway - I have a feeling they will be looking more into this phone as this replacement will be my 5th! (The previous had similar problems with calls being made or incoming that would just fall over before being answered and the signal being completely lost when it was happening. Slightly different this time - but sound related!)
So will there be a way to put it back to being locked and the correct bootloader etc being shown?
Many thanks
I had the same problem with rejected and dropped calls, tmobile couldnt care less from what i learned or are unaware of the problem! try this
1. lock the phone to gsm only (this solved it pretty much straight away)
2) remove the voicemail from your account
3) If you are using gprs data, you will rarely get a phone call through, and by using it i mean looking at web pages or having programs update in the background.
Downgrading the bootloader is way above my head so i wouldnt like to advise.
As regard to relocking the phone to the network, i dont think thats possible, in any event, why would they check the simlock if the phone is having problems with calls!
If its your fifth handset, you should be looking at changing the model at least because thats ridiculous.
It sounds like a network issue rather than a handset problem!

Yeh, the problems on this phone didnt start until I began using the net again. They did suggest switching off 3G, but since I bought the phone specifically on the promise of a fast connection and HSPDA speeds, that really is an unacceptable solution! I appreciate that signal varies etc - but if a central location where I work isnt good enough, then T-Mobile really shouldnt be advertising themselves as a 3G network!
As it happens, voicemail was switched off on the account. It got put back on again a week ago - and sods law - things now seem to be working, though internet speeds are still very slow.

When I phoned, I was just looking to get a repair, but it was them that offered a Vario 3 which I accepted. It was agreed for them to be sending the set to me (last Thursday) but all that arrived was a grey bag to send my old one back. I spoke with them at great length again last night and suggested a straight courier swap so I wasn't without a phone. They went through to their repair department, who have now flatly refused the phone change - despite it being agreed already!
Anyway I spoke to another manager who went through my "book" of notes and quoted the sale of goods act and merchandisable quality thing and he has agreed they really have to address this. He is phoning me back today and he did come across as helpful and reasonable. (The second one in 2 weeks - must be a record!!!)
I do agree though, that this issue is likely to be the network and not the phone. I would really love to use O2 as at work and home I get 100% coverage and never had any problems at all - but I ain't paying their data rates! Maybe 3 will be ok - but again, when I had them a few years back, at home they were dire so never bothered again. But one thing is pretty certain, in 5 months time, T-Mobile will be history unless they make amends in a big way and these problems become non existant.
Thanks for your help..... its appreciated.
I have a tmobile wing and I had it for awhile but just started using it again recently but when i put my sim card in the phone and turn it on it just keeps saying Searching...
I get service for like 2 minutes then it would just go away. This would happen when I leave the sim in the phone, it would get service once in awhile, like for 2mins every 2-3 hours, but never consistently.
My sim card works perfectly on other phones and when i insert a friends sim card into the wing it still has the same problem, it keeps saying Searching... I don't think its a problem with the sim card since it works fine with other phones.
I tried soft reseting it and hard reseting it but it still seemed to have the same problem. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or what I can do to try and fix it?
what radio rom does your phone have and what rom are you using?
you can check your radio rom by going to settings>system>about ( i believe). If not that, then settings>system> device info.
also, if you don't know what rom you're using, it's probably the stock rom.
It might also be that the particular spot you are in is just unlucky for reception and that other phones have better reception by design.

It says Radio version: 02.83.90
And i believe it is the stock rom since i never changed it or anything. and I doubt it is the area because I tried using it in several other towns.

p4350
well on my p4350 over the past 2 weeks i have been receiving little signal like every 5 - 7 hours i mite get it for a bit but only for a sort time. i was wondering if it needs its radio updating?
any help?
Hi, I just want to share my story. maybe it could help you out.I had a wing for more than a year now. recently it had the same problem. it just don't have any signal at all, just keep searching. I tried what you did before. hardreset, softreset, and update the firmware. Nothing helps. since my phone is out of warranty, i can't send it to t-mobile. So i went to a local repair shop. They told me it could be hardware problem. I paid $50 to get it repair and no problem since. I don't know what they did, maybe replacing something inside. So don't just look at the software side, it could be hardware problem.
I have the exact same problem, and it's really pissing me off.

Hi.
Yesterday when I woke up my phone couldn't pick up signal. I thought it was because of the heavy rain but now its still not picking up a signal. I flashed the stock rom and it could get signal some times but the problem is that it wont stay connected. Like when the phone goes into standby and you turn it on it loses connection again. I am now running the newest tabtastic chuckyrom. It only picks up signal outside but it loses it like every couple of minutes, and then takes a minute or two to connect again. Does anyone have any suggestions?
flash a radio?? 2.12 maybe? works great for me
Ok. Im gonna try that and tell you how it goes.
Ok. i have tried it and it still doesnt work. Im goin to flash the stock rom back.
edit: The flash rom is on and off with the connection.
I don't know if you're using one since you're on AT&T but the SIM card can affect that if it is old or getting worn out. Replacing it will help if that's the issue. Happened to me a couple weeks ago.
Ok. I went and got a new sim and its working ok inside but could be better. I just listed it on ebay and I will use my touch pro 2 until this sells and i get another one. But thanks for the help. Oh I also call HTC and they told me it would take a month to fix or send a replacement and that if the atennae failed that it isnt covered by the "Limited Warranty" so i would have to pay.

try calling back and speaking to someone else im pretty sure if your antenna failed they should replace it i had an antenna fail on a blackberry flip and they sent me a replacement.
I have flashed my three mobile to the latest .184 release, and just before doing this I used flashtools to make a backup. Somewhat stupidly I went ahead and flashed without checking if my backup actually works, I have checked since and it just tells me to unplug and turn on debugging etc (they are both on).
Has anybody got an original three firmware they can upload in case I need it - since doing this I have also noticed problems with wifi tethering so it might need sending back
If no one can help (if anyone can it would still be appreciated), can anyone tell me if it will cause me problems getting my phone repaired.
Although I originally flashed the .184 update uploaded here I have since run a SEUS reinstall so technically the firmware is 100% official SE generic firmware. Will this mean it will be fixed as all they will know is that it is their software on.
I had some worrying news when I asked in a carphone warehouse repair center today, the engineer (I have doubts they actually hire engineers) told me if he finds I have changed the software he is required to inform SE themselves the phone details and have the warranty voided. This was after actually telling him that I had changed it though, and he might have been thinking custom - I also didn't explain the SEUS update that means it is completely official.
Anyone any advice? I definitely have a hardware problem that needs fixing so I am desperate now.
from what I remember the only difference was the bootscreen and the three app and a couple of games I doubt you will have any major problems. I'm pretty sure the main thing they didn't like with debranded firmware was you could set it to just use the Orange network which cost them more money, but now they are 3G only...
With WIFI tethering try changing the name of the hotspot I couldn't get it to connect at all, changed the name and it worked fine.
Thanks for the suggestion, I just tried renaming but it has the same problem. I can connect for 2 minutes then it stops working and needs turning off and on. It is identicle no matter what I do; after using SEUS or restaring the phone. I am pretty sure it is a hardware problem now (it seems unlikely to be software otherwise more people would have this exact problem). I'm also having problem connecting to wifi while out that I didn't notice untill I started using it more.
Ill give it a couple of days to see if anyone gets hold of the three firmware just in case (I don't want to give them a reason to try and screw me around, I like the plan and unlimited internet but their CS is abysmal sometimes), I will just go for it and send it back if not.
How long have you had the phone? I got mine switched over about a week after I got it because the camera had a problem. I have actually in general had some great customer service from them over the last couple of years they even just refunded me £40 of internet data usage because they did not explain it to me properly (One plan didn't start for a month apparently :/).
Good luck though hopefully they will just swap it over if they have some in stock. Make sure you take everything you got back in order to get an exchange.
Just over a week - got it on the 26th. The problem is I upgraded over the phone and had some problems then with overcharging, this is when I found out that the shops don't like dealing with phone customers and would not help me at all. Maybe they will be more accommodating for a hardware problem - or maybe if I refuse to leave until they behave like I am the one paying £40 a month to the company whos shop I am standing in I will get some service (Im actually getting prematurely angry lol).
Ill give the store a go first if I can't find the fw soon.
Thanks,
Hi all,
I got a Nexus 4 from Ebay. Cellphone is in flawless condition, it probably has less than a couple of months of use. Unfortunately, I am not able to pick up a signal in any way. I just get a constant "No Service" message, and occasionally it will jump to "Emergency Calls Only".
Testing menu says Signal Strenght is 0 dBm 99 asu, no neighboring cells and location is unknown.
I've tried changing the prefered network to WCDMA only (as suggested in other threads), also tried with the other available settings with no luck. Tried playing around with the Change Bands setting as well but it makes no difference
Tried with a few different sim cards as well but that didn't work either, just got signal momentarily and but it would go on and off.
Cellphone came with 4.2.2 and I upgraded to 4.3 as requested by the system. Same issue.
Tried basebands 48 and 84.
Tried CM 10.2.
Replaced SIM card with a brand new one.
Cellphone doesn't appear to be blacklisted either.
Not sure what to do next. I'll try to get in contact with the seller but I don't expect much from him or eBay. Maybe I can sell off the device very cheap for spare parts, or send it for repair somewhere? Leave it as a dev device (which would virtually indistinguishable from a N5 that I plan to get anyway), Anyone else has any other suggestions or ideas?
Try to install a factory stock image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
If you pay with PayPal you get buyer protection so you can try to get your money back.
Could be a hardware or antenna issue.
To me it seems like its been blocked for certain reasons. Either it was reported stolen or the person who sold it to you didn't pay his/her bill for which the carrier blocked it. In that case you can't do much about it.
I would contact the seller right away. If you get no response contact paypal and eBay.

This problem is occurring for a lot of Nexus 4 users, including me. Its some sort of pandemic. Here’s what you can do to atleast restore service to your phone : flash the factory 4.3 image to your phone, again. However, try flashing a radio that is 54 or older with it. Make sure you wipe the cache and flash all the partitions, system, boot, bootloader and the old radio. This will bring back service to your phone (did for me), however you will be left with no in call audio and your phone wont connect to the internet through the mobile network, only wifi. After doing this, you will see your baseband and IMEI in the phone.
You can use this as some sort of “test” to verify if your phone really isn’t stolen. What is the ultimate resolution to this problem ? I really don’t know yet. I’ve been breaking my head over this for the past 4 days now. Maybe I’m going to try out the unbrick method mentioned over here to see if that helps.
As an update I am getting intermittent signal in some areas, but it's really spotty and only lasts a little while : (
I'll be giving different basebands a try tomorrow but I don't think it'll help much. I'll also try the full factory flash posted above.
Same problem here, had the phone for about 2-3 months, bought it off Kijiji, I tried flashing 4.2.2, went back to 4.3, flashed every baseband and still no success. The SIM works perfectly in another N4, tried a few other sim in mine and still the same results. Any other ways somebody got this fixed ?

I'm talking to the seller, see if the phone is still under warranty. My other options would be to change the antenna myself (see if it works), or resell it at loss for spare parts, or wait to see what eBay says.
Just to give you guys some hope, that this is not just a problem faced by second hand phones - My phone is bought directly from the Play store - I contacted Google service a few days back and they asked me to return the phone for a replacement. Only problem is I have to ship this back to the US (where I purchased from), since they dont provide replacement service outside the country of purchase. I'm in India now.
I've tried absolutely everything myself. Flashed many many radios, 4.3, 4.2.2, I'm only able to get it to the point where there is network coverage, I can make and receive calls but there is no in call audio, nor is there any mobile internet connectivity (Only through wifi).
Something tells me this is a problem with the latest OTA update that caused this issue - I was completely stock and everything was working properly, when this problem appeared one fine day - It started with me not able to connect to the mobile internet network for a few days, and then one fine morning, BAM. No service. It was only after this that I started flashing and re-installing stuff on my phone, desperately trying everything to get the phone back to normal again.
I think the last OTA update somehow "bricked" the radio (dont know if something like this is possible, just a noob guess). My only hope is the 4.4 update has some fix for this, else I'm going to try the unbrick method mentioned on these forums to see if that works. Only then will I take the pain to send this back to the US.
What's the unbrick method you are planning to follow?
I was considering using the unbrick method listed here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2347060
Although I'm not completely sure it will work. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions for this ? I'm hoping 4.4 gets released ASAP, I'll download and root that as quickly as I can, hopefully Google has some resolution to this stupid problem
i have exactly the same problem
i have exactly the same problem. i bought my phone at US from Google play.
the phone worked fine for two month and then i got - No Service, and its swipe in a sec to emergency call only.
i try to replaced some sim cards, and factory reset with no success.
i also read a bug report that opened in Google : 58317
they told that there is a problem with the radio interface and radio driver at the 4.3 update, and they will fix it in 4.4 kitkat version.
i hope that 4.4 will fix this terrible problem, if not the phone is totally a door blocker..
Did anyone ever find a solution for this issue?
My friend has this problem with his Nexus 4.
I've searched A LOT and to this day (half a year later) haven't been able to find someone who reports this problem was solved.
I've also tried every suggestion I could find: flashed every stock image available, tried every combination of stock/custom ROM/recovery/radio, even tried the unbrick method mentioned above.
Nothing helps. I always get the same symptoms:
- Radios 54 and below - no in call audio.
- Radios 83 and above - Baseband unknown, IMEI / IMEI SV unknown, no cellular reception.
Also, RMA is not an option because the people at the store (a) don't know how to fix it and (b) claim the warranty doesn't cover this issue so they won't replace the device.
Any suggestions? I'm willing to try anything...
Maybe its a simple hardware failure like a loosely connected antenna? It doesn't really seem to be connected to any specific software setup
Something that happens to me rarely: when I'm in an area with very low/no reception sometimes the phone won't reconnect itself again and just stay on no reception until I reboot. Only happens like one or two times a month though.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Thanks, but I really don't think it could be an antenna issue.
I can see how a malfunctioning antenna could cause cellular reception problems, but it shouldn't affect IMEI or Baseband version readings. Those things have nothing to do with the antenna.
Also, the fact that the symptoms change with different radio firmwares says there's a big chance this is a software issue after all.
I just can't figure out what the cause is and how to eliminate it.
Flash any full factory image. If the problem persists after you can be pretty sure it's hardware. No signal for most of the time and occasionally picking it up could be something as simple as the antenna being unplugged, which can sometimes happen after a drop, or a forgetful repair.

Could be a broken or badly connected antenna. They are very fragile. Have a look at how to replace the antenna maybe?

I've opened up lots of my old phones (not my nexus 4 yet) and its normally easy to find and change as it's separate from the motherboard and looks basically like a piece of plastic!

I have the same problem no connection but the phone recognize the sim and the number of the phone. I've tryed to return to stock using a factory firmware but I'm not able to fix the problem... (this morning is working fine and my phone never fell down or something like that)
If I open btw the case and try to remove and reinsert correctly the antenna the phone will recognize the signal?
