this seems to be a somewhat common problem. the messaging application does not resize or compress photos (enough) so they can be sent as mms. i can send photos taken inside the messaging app. and i can send saved iphone photos that have been sent to me. but i cannot send photos taken using the camera app as an mms.
does anyone know of a fix?
use Handcent SMS ... allows you to specify a max MMS message size.
i know. i tried it last night. but i dont see why i should have to use a 3rd party application when the stock messaging app should work.

I don't like using 3rd party apps for something that should be built-in either, but that's the workaround I've been using until there's a fix.

My wife easily sends/receives pics and videos through email (hotmail) on her iphone. But when i try it says things like "file size too large"...or, i send it, but the receiver never gets it. For the iphone, if the file is too big, it will ask to resize or compress the video/pic....any help please? thanks
Try Image Shrink from the Market.
Or change the size of the pics the phone takes, in camera settings, i have minr set at 640x480. Not sure the resolution the iphone shoots at.
I just switched to Handcent SMS... you can change the settings for how large the MMS pictures can be, and then when you try to send one it will automatically resize it for you. This is a problem with Samsung's Messaging app. The weird thing is I was able to send to iPhone users for a while, then it just stopped...this has fixed the issue...and I actually prefer it over the built in app anyway now.
yeah I love handcent sms
Mine will do this automatically on the stock rom, with the stock text messenger app.
I've noticed whenever I send MMS, the messaging app will compress the **** out of the picture where the recipient can't see anything; it becomes very small and compressed to the point where they can't see the persons face in the picture.
Is there anyway to adjust this feature? I know blackberries don't always compress their pictures and if I do get a MMS from an iPhone or BB, it looks clear and not compressed to the point where it looks like ****. It shouldn't be a carrier issue neither, there has to be a way to adjust it. Thanks

Yeah it's a known issue and those assholes should have fixed it by now.
try using handcent.
does handcent create diff inboxes for sms and mms?
I use Handcent and it still compresses it IMO. Sent a pict to my boss yesterday and she responded with WTF is that?

Hey guys, I had previously stored my 5000+ sms messages from my XperiaX10 into my Gmail account... After I bought the Atrix4G, when I restored these messages, I saw that just some part of them were restored because there is a limitation of SMS's per conversation in Android 2.2!
Is there ANY way for me to restore ALL my messages back to my phone? Any way to remove that SMS limitation they put (which is 1000 per contact I believe)? If it's through an application (through rooting the phone, anything I can do...?)
Thanks a bunch!
Try the handcent text messaging app. Its free plus will give you a TON of extra features including unlimited inbox limit.

hmm I liked the idea, buuuut I believe Handcent syncs directly from the Messaging App so if the Messaging app doesn't get the restored messages from Gmail, I'm guessing Handcent wouldn't either? It bugged the only time I tried... I could try again, but I don't really know what I'm talking about hehe...
And I've never really used Handcent, how does it work when you receive a message? Do you get 2 notifications? Is it possible to set Handcent as the default messaging app? How does it work?

With 5000+ messages, wouldn't you rather leave them in Gmail? At least you could use the search feature in there
Yea wouldn't it be better to save that in an archive then build it again with another app now? Of course I don't know how you could import them if the SMS applications don't support it but....

It just doesn't make sense to have 5000 text messages in that format. That's a lot of scrolling if you are trying to find a specific text message, whereas, in the Gmail app you can use keywords, such as the contact's name and whatever you were talking about and then BAM, there it is.
So everytime I get a mms the picture wants to open is slideshow, which is really annoying. Has anyone found a way to make it open in gallery like normal? I don't want to long press and save and all that. I just want it to open in gallery when I touch it.
Same happened if I try to send a pic. It never sends and when I click on pic it opens like it is a video.

i downloaded handcent for just opening and sending pictures, it doesnt compress them as much when sending them as well. test it yourself, send a pic to yourself, see how low the quality is, now send a pic to yourself with handcent
I wondered if it was me only! Had the same issue. I had been using handcent for almost a year and thought I'd try the 'messaging' app as I like the split screen in landscape mode. . . Because of this wired slide show issue and the white background setting never really working and the inconsistent send issue (with mms) I switched back to handcent.
Works well! Note: I had one or two mms no send issues with handcent (overall huge reduction from 'messaging' - which was near 99%) - I added '80' as my mms port in apn settings. . . I don't think I have had a send hang since.

My Galaxy S4 had a setting to keep multiple recipient messages in a single (MMS) thread. On the 1+5 I'm seeing the message as only coming from the actual Sender in a single person thread and it does not indicate the other recipients. Hard to track conversations that way.
the one plus messaging app does don't handle MMS correctly. use a third party app like textra or Android messages and you should be fine.

my friend had the same exact issue. Been using textra since 2013. It works perfect on my oneplus 5.
Yeah, 2017 and OnePlus can't wrote a messaging app that can handle single thread groups. Gotta use a different app.
