Hi, I think everyone of us can't use the windows update feature in our omnia 2 (winmo 605)
Then, how can I update my windows build? i'm running build 21863, which have irritating menu to manage..please, i really want to update my winmo 6.5 build. Please share, thanks!
I just went into the update page on my Omnia2 and did a manual update. It took about 4 mins and I did not have it connected to my PC. Update successful.
why i can't? failed to connect.
can someone please help me?
same problem here.
it always tells me to check the connection and make sure time and date are set correctly.
for system time i use GMT+1
connection is fine. i tried provider network as well as WiFi.
Does anybody have a solution how I can check for updates?
[Solution] Update Samsung Omnia II
Method 1: By Yourself
1) Download New PC Studio from Samsung's website:
Link: downloadcenter[dot]samsung[dot]com/content/SW/201002/20100210183453156/New_PC_Studio_1.4.0.IL2.exe
*NOTE: REPLACE the [dot] with .
2) Install and launch NPS
*NOTE: YOU MUST BE RUNNING XP/VISTA TO USE. WINDOWS 7 IS NOT SUPPORTED
3) Connect your device via USB, make sure ActiveSync is already installed, ensure that NPS detects your phone.
*NOTE: IF YOU HAVE LOST/MISPLACED YOUR USB CABLE, A STANDARD MICRO USB CABLE SHOULD DO.
At the bottom right hand corner, there is a 'Upgrade' Button. Click on it. It will launch a window in NPS. Select your phone and click Check For Updates. If there are upgrades available, it should prompt you whether you want to install the upgrade. From here, follow the instructions onscreen.
If your phone errors during installation, it will boot into recovery. Reconnect the phone to the computer. It will not be recognized by NPS yet. Once again click the 'Update' Button and instead of Checking for Updates, click Recovery.
Method 2: At a Service Center
If your phone is still under warranty, you can bring the phone to a service center for upgrade. It should take ~30min for them to do that, depending on the number of customers they are serving. This way if anything goes wrong it isn't your fault.
I think Samsung disable the update function in their phones as they wanted people to flash only Samsung-Approved ROMs from their application
Besides, i was also facing this problem, so GOOD LUCK!
HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU
I just tried to update on my i8000 - worked fine, but:
a) it lasted a few minutes
b) no updates available now.

Boo Hoo ... I love my HTC-HD2, (despite all the grief HTC should have avoided inflicting on us), ... and so I was really looking forward to the 1.66 ROM Upgrade. BUT it won't load for me...
I downloaded the ROM ("GCC & Egypt" version out of Middle-East & Africa site - I'm an expat living in Dubai), connected my phone to my PC by USB & ActiveSync, ran the ROM.exe on my PC, carefully ticked and clicked my way through all the dialogue boxes and when I hit the last "next" button to launch the ROM upgrade, ActiveSync decides to disconnect leaving the phone hanging in the tri-clour bootloader mode and 10 seconds later, (with the connection dropped), I get Error [266] UPDATE ERROR (see attached screen shot).
Happily a quick restart after removing the battery restored the phone to its un-upgraded state. Thinking I may have tweaked something I shouldn't have on my phone (with loaded software, reg-edits and xda-tweaks), I hard reset it back to the original factory 1.43 ROM condition and retried the 1.66 Upgrade; but no go - same ActiveSync disconnection/bootloader hang. Tried again with firewall and virus protection turned off; and again on a different PC; and again and again holding my tongue in every conceivable different position - but no joy and now I have a bald patch from all the hair I pulled out.
I might just be thick and missed something, (though - as a last resort - I did read the instructions seven times), ... so I'm desperately seeking assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated ... as I'm finding it difficult to suppress the rising anger and loathing I developing for Team HTC - who have now predisposed me to blame them for everything that goes wrong including global warming; - this is turning out to be pretty much like my relationship with all the old Landrovers I've owned - but I digress - can anyone suggest a solution or point out my error ... before I send the less than complimentary email I'm drafting to HTC, who will then have to blacklist me from buying the HD3 and then I won't have anything to complain about, (because my current Landrover Discovery 3 is uncharacteristically perfect !!).
That's because Windows needs an extra driver for the phone in bootloader mode. It is then no longer connected via Activesync.
Put your phone into bootloader mode, connect it to your PC, wait for the driver to install, then flash again (while the phone is in bootloader mode).
ROM Upgrade Utility / Phone connection problem persists
Thanks for the advice; but still have a problem.
PC connects and recognises the phone via USB connection in bootloader mode(so I assume driver has loaded properly) but ROM upgrade utility still stalls with error message saying "Update Utility cannot get response from your PDA Phone".
Several attempts to run Upgrade Utility while phone is in bootloader mode all fail; sometimes with no detection at but once or twice it manages to detect the phone but doesn't obtain any status info and ultimately fails to communicate properly, always ending up with the Error message noted.
Starting think I have a hardware problem ... oh no ... will have to deal with HTC Middle-East (which will mean numerous miscommunications, 3-4 week waits, phone being lost/misplaced, after 2-months being told there is actually no problem - must all be in my head ... think I'll just slash my wrists now and save the aggravation.)

What version of Windows are you using? If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 64 bit you may need to install the required drivers by yourself, rather than automatically updating drivers.
Have tried on two systems:
1. Win XP (32bit version with Service pack 3) running as virtual machine in Parallels 5.0 on an iMac OS 10.6 (snow leopard) - yes I've ventured out of the shadows into the light.
and
2. Win XP (32bit version with Service pack 3) running on a standard PC
Both seem to connect, bootloader on phone shows "USB" and under Control Panel/System/Device Manager the HTC Device shows as a USB Root Hub device "working properly" ???

Strange. I guess you have tried using different USB ports, and not using a USB hub port. Are you using the stock USB cable that came with your HD2?
You might also try flashing a ROM with your storage card. That should bypass your USB problem. You can find instructions here.
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Yes; the first thing I tend to suspect is the USB Hub or ports on peripherals, but I also tried virtually every direct connect USB port on both machines.
and
Yes, I'm using the standard HTC micro-USB cable ... BUT whilst waiting for my second HTC cable to arrive I have also been using a micro-USB from a Jabra SP700 (car speaker) which "looks" identical but only charges my HD2 and doesn't work with ActiveSync ... so now I'm wondering if it is slightly different, maybe it has damaged the terminals on the phone - though would've thought that all micro-USBs plug in the same even if terminal configs differ resulting in connectivity differences ???

I do not understand all the mechanics of it, but no, not all micro-USB cables are the same, apparently some do not carry enough current, or some such thing. I am searching for more information for you now. If I find it, I will post it here.
For the life of me, I cannot find the information I was looking for. I read somewhere that others solved the problem by just disconnecting and reconnecting the phone during the flash process when the error occurs.
Well try another HTC cable as that sure seems to be suspect now. If all else fails, I would try flashing through the memory card method.
Keep us update. Hopefully soon you will get what you want.
Success!!! Flashing from a 3rd (more powerful) PC, went without a hitch and I'm now up and running.
My observations for what they're worth:
1. As noted by "FreyBerry", when running the Upgrade Utility from a PC using an ActiveSync connection to the phone, the connection gets dropped when the phone goes into bootloader mode and the PC is supposed to detect the phone as a USB device and reconnect - loading the appropriate driver. If driver and/or connection fails to load quickly enough the Utility times-out and you get the error message.
2. Though my USB cable may have been my problem, it seemed to work flawlessly on the 3rd PC. So other possibilites could be:
3. On the 1st attempt, running WinXP as a virtual machine inside an iMac, the USB-device re-connection doesn't happen fast enough as the Mac and PC inside the Mac arm-wrestle over which OS will pickup the connection.
4. On the 2nd attempt, using my office PC, our network/virus protocols/firewall or simply the aging PC may have been too slow or obstructed in reconnecting.
If the problem re-occurs I'll be opting for the SD-Card Flash method you suggested.
Many thanks for all the help ... I can already feel my pulled-out hair re-growing. Cheers.
Windows 7 seems to be the problem. I have the same problem if I want to upgrade the ROM on Windows 7, not on Windows XP.

I never succeeded in flashing from a virtual machine on OS X.
@wereldbol No, it should work fine with Windows 7, both 32bit and 64bit.
Just last week I flashed a rom on a Vista x86 no problem. Now I've got Windows 7 x64 on a brand new computer and I'm now getting error 266. I don't have the option of using the old computer so I'm lost on what to do. I was already even able to flash HSPL3 to my wife's phone on the Win7 pc and didn't have this kind of trouble. But now I can't install a rom.
The device drivers installed. If anyone has any help. It would be much appreciated.
Hi,
Can anyone please tell me why my Omnia II (i8000) is not detected by ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center? I'm tired of trying and very close to giving up hope.
Can you please help me with the issue?
First try on another computer. Then you know more and you can search this site.
I tried with 5 computers. Do I need more?
well i have the opposite case ... everytime a connect mine it detects a new phone .....
In win xp just a one time installation of activesync 4.5 then reboots afterwards then install pc studio that came with a cd or download the latest one.
i had this kind of problem with WMDC running in win 7 ultimate.
what i did was
1. install the pc studio sw (use compatibility mode as win vista sp1) then reboot
2. when u plug the O2 it will try to find the driver but will fail to install.
3. uninstall WMDC thru add/remove programs
4. when u go to dev mgr u will see I8000 with "Question Mark" meaning driver doesnt install properly( pretty much obvious..)
4. try to update the driver manually it says to search driver thru internet select that option if u miss it.. ur next option is to run windows update
5. win update will try to find the latest patch and driver update for ur system. (ur phone shuld be connected to pc at this moment) so that it will find the hardware update available for your pc.
6. go to "hardware option" on the windows update, if u see the "MIT USB Sync" thats the driver for your omnia 2, select that and install it right away..once finish reboot while phone are still connected.
7. if it doesnt find the hardware update on first run..reboot and try it again..( it took me several hrs before it finds the mit usb sync.. patience it s must here)
8. WMDC will run on startup automatically.
hope this will help..
and the bad part is Samsung did not make any driver/software for Windows 7
My i8000 works without a hitch on my Win7 system (x64 and x86). Check if your device's USB option is set to ActiveSyn or USB Mass Storage.

Just to share ... Spent abt 6hrs figuring out why my omnia 2 would always hang when i needed to set it up for partnership in order to sync in WMDC (OS = Win7). Been searching wif different keywords in google and realised my problem is not common which convinces me that there is something funky with my set up that is preventing the sync.
Got lucky today ... did a wild google on "omnia 2 wmdc driver" ... and on 1 of the threads, discovered that it is important that the Windows in-built Windows Media Player had to be "installed", which i didnt do since i'd been using other media players. And voila ... issue resolved.
MS sucks! Especially when you get humiliated by such problems that seems so easily fixed. =D

Try a 6th PC for good luck
I have installed the letest version of Kies (Kies_1.5.1.10071_32). When I try to link the phone to pc in Samsung Kies mode there is no reaction from the pc.
If I connect in Mass storage mode I can see 2 drives in windows explorer.
I have Un-installed Kies, rebooted and re-installed.
I have removed the drivers that were installed and retried.
I tried to contact Samsung support. Their response was:
1. De-install.
2. Reboot
3. Remove USB drivers.
4. Install Kies.
5. Re-check by connect.
when advised this did not work and that I had tried on another computer with same results I was told that there was a 'configuration problem'
They do NOT support configuration problems.
I said that problem appears to be that no drivers is being loaded that is compatible. Their response was 'we do not support'
They said could try format pc hard drive and reload Windows then hard reset phone.
Can any one help.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium
PC is Samsung laptop R580. (yes I know but still not supported).
In advance of any help I thank you.
I had a similar issues earlier. My SGS would ay it was going into Kies mode then flash back to the home screen, then back to kies mode. This was both on my Win 7 and XP PCs.
I had to use Odin to totally reinstall the firmware.

Is your W7 x64 or x32?
This topic should be made sticky. I had the same problem too.
I have noticed on some other sites that people seem to say that a previous version of Kies may work. Does any one have access to previous versions.
One site suggested version 1.5.1.10056.
Sorry forgot that part. It is 32 bit.
In case it helps list of apps installed, other than standard: (But do not think any will interfer as I am on the 'idle' or home screen after close all.

Same issue here. Formatting my PC didn't solve the issue (I needed to do it anyway, thankfully).
Are you using a different launcher perhaps? Make sure you have touchwiz set as the default launcher or kies will not connect to the phone.
Have just found a message on the Samsung community site.
The pertinent message is:
Hi,
At the moment there is a connectivity issue between the phone and the software. The software will only pick up the memory card,if using one, but not the phone memory. The issue has been raised to the headoffice and a resolution is expected soon in the regard.

Any further advice?
connection to keis can be easily fixed
I had this problem too. It was caused because only in idle mode of the Samsung home rancher can keis connect. You may have installed a different launcher. Try the following:
Put use to keis mode in settings
download home switcher from the market
run home switcher an set touchwiz as default home
Reboot phone (task killing other launchers don't work for me.)
make you phone is in the home screen - press home to get there
now connect the cable with keis running on pc
sync everything you need to
In future I suggest you move all contact to Google so they sync over the air and you'll no longer need keis. crappy software!
Tried suggested by ryukent and did not seem to work for me.
I have now decided to give up on Kies and use alternate software.
# Google for contacts
# Use MTP mode for devise management.
# Sync music with MediaMonkey
Where did you get that version of kies? From samsung-firmware-webs.com?
I think that's not an official release and It seems that it has connection issues.
Kies tells me the latest version is 1.5.1.10062
according to the website it's 1.5.1.10071_32

Strange then why does Kies not find the update like it usually does?!? Those with connection issues I would still give the older version a shot.
Quick Question, I'm in the US, but using the Euro SGS. When installing kies, I should select UK instead of US, correct? Or does it not matter?

Doesn't matter. Kies "location" is basically for installing of Samsung Apps as it displays apps for your region only. However, since there are no apps from Samsung (other than the default already on the phone) it doesn't matter.
I chose UK on desktop and US on laptop if u were wondering...no difference (that i can tell at least)
..i suggest you skip kies.. not a good application at the moment.
..what I do is to extract the installer and copy the USB driver from my temp folder in windows 7.
..install the driver and you are set.. your phone will be detected.. you can now use drag and drop method or 3rd part application to transfer media or applications to your phone.
..as per "ryukent", make sure you have the TW Launcher set as default and use Home Switcher.. very useful app.
..and if your issue is something where your phone is not detected even if you have TouchWiz enabled and the phone is always trying to connect but never successful.. it might be the time to perform a "format" on the Internal SD card and "restore" the phone to Factory Default.
Kies will not work once you have installed too many application in your SGS. But it will work well once you reset your SGS to default setting.
or
Try to take out and put back the USB till it can detect.
Check it out
I have the same problem. It's clearly to do with either an app or setting in the phone, possibly media causing the phone to fail to connect to kies.
At home Vista 32 will cause MTP application to continually crash to the touchwiz UI and then rerun MTP application ad nauseum. I have a totally stock SGS, no launchers nothing. This is a BUG on the phone software.
At work, (XP 32) the launcher simply says initialising and sits there forever.
I have raised a support email with samsung but I haven't heard anything back yet. I reset my phone once to make it work again, but I'm not going to do that again, I finally have the config the way I want it and all my contacts in the right spot.
Drivers
I also had some trouble in the beginning. But I loaded new drivers and now it connects to Kies every time. I have Windows 7 64 bit at home and Vista 32 bit at work. Both work fine. Found the drivers when I googled this problem.
I have had the easiest run so far in getting my HD2 to work with WP7, installling DFT's ROM and getting an activation code was a breeze. All is good except for one issue. When I connect by USB to my PC, the PC shows a window saying that it is seeking and then installing Device Driver Software. It does this every time I connect and then concludes by saying that my unidentified device is now ready for use. Zune then tells me that it can't make a connection between my HD2 and the internet but it can still sync files etc. I have installed Windows Device Manager (with .NET4 and developer tools etc.) and it too can't connect with my HD2. I've pursued the references in various threads to firewall issues and so on but I'm none the wiser.
Can anyone advise me what I should look at or what to try?
Other than this, I just want to say a huge THANKYOU to all at XDA and the extended community of interested/interesting folks who make it such a fantastic resource for everyone - BRAVO!
im having this EXACT same problem! anyone got any answers?
Zune
Guys,
Did you install Zune Desktop Software?
Once you have installed Zune, it should pick up your device.
Let me know if that does not work
I've tried everything except doing a hard-reset. And, yes, of course I installed Zune on PC
i assume you mean Windows mobile device center?
you dont need it
it should connect and be done, the fact that it isnt remember the correct driver suggests something on the driver side is buggered.
With the phone connected go in to the computers device manager, and right click on anything to do with the phone, including and unknown devices, right click and uninstall them all, before it installes them all again, disconnect the phone
look for a tool on google called USBDVIEW
make sure you get the correct version 32bit / 64bit
You will also need the USB IDs if you want to see who makes each device
put it on your PC and run it in admin mode
Locate anything todo with the phone and right click and remove them all
Remove Zune
Remove Windows mobile Device center
restart your PC
install zune first
Then plug in your phone into a different USB port and not in to a HUB
See how you get on with that
Second thoughts, ive attached the 32 and 64 bit versions, both already have the USB device IDs file with them, just copy the zip file to your PC, extract, and run as admin, all credit goes to the owner of this, i found them at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
sorry double post
Didn't work. =/
UPDATE: It did work
Zune cannot connect to an HD2 running Windows Phone 7 unless the time and date match on the phone and the computer. Make sure that your date and time are set up correctly on the phone, and do match the time and date with your computer. It is a long shot, but it worked for me before.
For the driver problem, dazza9075 gave the best advice.
Hmmm, so much for that fun. I was running WP 7004 when the computer first couldn't find the phone, after doing what dazza said the driver problem got fixed, and Zune found the phone. I updated from 7004 to 7008, how ever the phone kinda crashed at step 8 (restarting your phone) so i restarted it manually, the update is working fine except now Zune can't find my phone again. Not even after doing Dazzas method again.
I will try to change the time zones maybe that will do the trick.
Anyone else having problems getting their Windows 7 PC to pick up there SIII

Or something like that.
Anyway, it picked it up once (yesterday) and nothing since then. Its really annoying as it won't connect to Kies.

There are two possible issue at play here, one your pc drivers are incorrect or two the phone has an issue (1 is much more likely).
1) Uninstall Kies, reboot the pc, reinstall kies and disconnect from the internet then plug your phone in.
see if that works, if not you may need to manually point to the correct drivers
2) Odin flash your existing rom back using the "update bootloader" issue, this will repair any slight niggles on the phone side.
Tried option 1 and still nothing, Kies keeps crashing and the phone will still not connect.
How do I manualy select the right driver???
I don't really want to try option 2. I only have the phone 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it as it is. I don't want to go modding it like my last phone.
I have this issue too.
You are not alone...Lot of users have this issue!
I cant really find what cause it, but you can read some threads here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828016
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844400
There are more you can find if google the problem...
I always for now unistall/install drivers again. But after 2-3 times of properly connections the issue is back.

Option 2 is not strictly speaking modding, all you will be doing is flashing the stock rom (the rom you already have on your phone) back over itself, you will not be rooting or customising everything, the rom will still be "official" and not "modified".
As for the drivers, I assume your using windows? if so:
Press Start
Right click on "computer"
Manage devices
find the item that has the "!" error sign and right click update driver

find the item that has the "!" error sign and right click update driver
point it to the kies installation folder.
hope for the best.
Click to collapse
Done the above and it tell's me that I'm using the most up to date drivers.
ok new idea (but will only be a temp fix)
When you plug the phone in it should have a notification saying connected to media device.
Click that, change from MTP to PTP and back again. and see if that helps.
Just found this worked for me.

Yeah that whole "Hardware ID missing" was an irritating situation. This is what I recommend as far as making it work.
1. Plug in.
2. When you get the error message, I think its because of a conflict with the ADB interface. Go to Settings, Developer Options, and check off USB Debugging.
3. Plug in once again and it should work. If not, try toggling between Camera and MTP.

All i want to do is see my phone in MyComputer then I can access the files no problem.
Back on Media device (mtp) and it looked like it installed drivers and then the folder Computer/GT-I9300 opened so happy days.
