HTC HD2 USB power cabel pins - What is each for? - HD2 General

Hi im just wondering about the pins on the usb power cabel, known as the sync cabel to
Anyway there are pins inside the usb end and the micro usb end, for the micro usb end what i each pin for? like 3 for loading the phone 1 for the phone to detect the cabel and ask if i wanna sync, mass storage etc.
Someone know? im most interest in the one with the phone know if the cabel is in or not.
hope you all understand me

mhh, im not sure i understand you, the usb cable has a standard pinout.
the hd2 decides its pluged to a charger or a (pc) usb port by the state of the data pins. if pin 2 & 3 are short then its a (real)charger if not its a usb port. i read about a third pinout where the hd2 starts the 'navi pane', but i have no info about that.
hope that helps mad

Ok but on USB mini, is the 3 and 4 the ones i need to remove if i just wanna say charge the phone with the computer witouth the windows appear on the phone?
the 1 and 4 i need for charge?
regards

i dont think so. when you look at the link i posted, you see that pin 1 is +5V and pin 4 is ground. removing either of them will result in a not charging hd2 anyway. to just charge the hd2 cut pin 2 and 3 (usb data lines) of the cable. this will result in a hd2 that is just charging at an pc usb port.
also make sure to go to the settings tab, choose menu, more, tap system, energy, select battery. then remove the checkmark in the option 'do not charge the device when it is connected to a pc'.

USB charger - mini usb conector - Problem with charginhg

Hi, I have small problem with my universal charger. I tried to use another which is auto charger from 0.1A to 1A (standard USB), i try to use normal USB cable with mini usb end. And it is not working, when i used the same cable with computer it is working and charging.
Maybe someone have a mini usb universal connector scheme, how to connect (+5V and -5V) to charge, maybe I have mised something... how many A I need to put on it 1A, 500mA, 550mA ... ???
Thanks ..... Waiting ..... )))
Not sure if it's related, but if you try and use a standard USB cable with one of those cigarette lighter to USB power things it doesn't work. I had to connect pin 4 and 5 of the mini USB together to get it to charge my Exec.
Cheers,
Steve.
Which one is 4 and 5 ??? It is + or - Any scheme ???
Joning 4 and 5 is ok. Thanks ! Topic is closed.
Glad it worked.
Cheers,
Steve.

I've tried this with the Proporta CL->USB plug and found that if you plug the USB cable in with the Universal switched off, it will start to charge after 10 seconds, I can then switch my Universal on and it will still be externally powered.
Took a few weeks before I worked out the trick of switching it off and waiting for the orange charging light to come on!

Request: mini USB pin layout

Hi I'd like to know whats the USB pin layout on the O2 Atom as my mini USB plug fell off and I'm trying to solder it back to gather.
So far i manage to get it charging again but I cant get data through it.
Also I wonder if anyone can tell me how to make a USB charging cable so that i can plug it into the PC and charge without activesync(without using WM5storage, just plug and charge) or I can charge via car charger(I know this can be done with a special adaptor but I'd like to make my own)
Help is very much appreciated Thx.
well i suppose that no one really know about it so if possible for those who already have thier Atoms opened up, take a high ress pic of the USB plug showing the pins and post it for me.
thx

actually i have a cable(which came with a universal battery pack) that allows me to do what i want but its in a bad shape hence I'd like to make another.
usb is pretty much usb htc's carry audio too but people report that normal miniusb in 1 end and usb in the other works just fine
and any device connected to usb's 5volt and ground get power even if the pc dont see it as a usb device it still provide 5volt and 0.5amps to them
thats how usb cup wamers and plastic dogs humping the usb port works
See here @ Wikipedia for details on pin-outs

HD2's data cable.. is it micro USB?

yes... u r rite... itz a MICRO USB...
But it can't supply power to a USB device, so it can't be used like a PC USB port. It's only good for recharging and syncing.
so if i want to buy an additional wire, i look for a USB to MICRO USB wire right? no need to buy from HTC right?
cause i saw one usb that is smaller but it doesn't fit.. is there a MINI USB port too?
am confused

Erm yes it can,
Actually better take the device with you. Sellers here told me there is like 7 different very similar connectors. However this one should be the standard micro USB, which is supposed to be universal charger/sync cable in the future (at least in EU).
And yes, of course, there is mini USB. And there even are more versions of mini USB, for example HTC used their own.
You had better use HTC cables. HD2 is microusb, but not all microusb cables are good for HD2. Like iPhone, it takes a large charging current, and many no brand cables cannot do it. I've got a third party cable that syncs only, but if charged from the PC, the HD2 will say that the charging current is too small. Battery actually drops when I connect HD2 to PC using this cable (because my options set it that backlight is always on when HD2 is connected). Other combinations are OK:
original cable + AC plug: charging OK
original cable + PC: charging OK
third party cable + AC plug: charging OK
third party cable + PC: "insufficient charging current"
Be careful with cables- you'd be better to buy the genuine HTC version.
Many USB/MicroUSB cables are for charging only, and don't have the data pins connected. Thats OK if you just want to charge it while you are away from your main PC or power supply.
You can also buy a miniUSB/MicroUSB adapter for charging using and older miniSUB charger, but again these don't have the data pins connected.
I bought a number of 3rd party USB to microUSB cables a month ago for sync and charging (office, PC, bedside charging), so far so good... no issues (maybe I'm lucky). The OmniaII uses the same connector, so I'm using the HTC car charger to charge both.
I bought Nokia's cable (for E71,N97,etc.) and it work just fine with charging from laptop. much cheaper than HTC in here.
if you are going for the cheapo option...
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=MICRO+USB+SYNC%26+CHARGE+CABLE+for+HTC+HD2+HD+2+Leo+T8585
i got a couple from ebay - arrived the next day. - charge/sync fine.
charger from iPhone
The iPhone charger coud be used for charging HD2. Just plug the microUSB cord instead of iPhones and ... voila. The same outputs
N86-8megapixel cable doesnt work..
So I managed to leave my HTC cable at work (2 days after getting the Telstra HD2 in OZ) and now I am on 4-5 days leave from work and really want to tinker with my phone. I think I may end up having to go back to work to collect the HTC cable - as below... challenge to get non-HTC cable to work.
I found that my wife's N86-8megapixel nokia has a similar micro-usb cable.
When connected to the PC the phone starts charging and the PC does the "doo-doop" sound a "appears" to connect to the phone, but active sync cannot detect the phone \ sync.
I see others have had success with nokia cables - I am wondering if there is something wierd going on.

2 possibilities - if your wire has 2 cables, then one is for charging and one is for data.
the other option is that you have to terminate your relationship with the phone and establish a new one. if this is possible, then likely you will be asked wehther to delete sync files between the two or not. you may choose not to delete.
hope this helps.

This has NOTHING to do with charging.
Yes, check you didnt tick the box "do not charge when connected to a PC" in the power options.
If your battery is sufficiently depleted them the low output from your USB port may be too low to start the charging process.
Attempt the charge from wall charger and then try not to let the battery drain too much.
It is also posible that the power output from your USB port on your PC is defective, Usualy there is a fuse somewhere mounted on the mainbord and looks like a resistor. You can easy check this by using an other PC and connect the phone to that one. You don't need to intsall the ActiveSync on that PC to check. When that one is charging your batery..... Well you know.....
Oh, there is an other posible selution. Turn on your PC Joking
Are you plugging your phone into an external usb hub or directly into a usb port on the back of your computer?
I recently upgraded from an old tmo Wing and it would charge just fine off a port on my external usb hub. When I plugged my HD2 into the same port, it would not charge. If I connect my HD2 directly into the back of my computer, it charges just fine.
I'll be looking for differrent hub that provides more power and will allow for better charging.
if you POWER OFF the phone and it dose charge (orange led should appear near earpiece)
then your pc's usb and your usb cable are fine.
to fix,
go to 'SETTINGS'
and then at the bottom tap on 'ABOUT PHONE'
then tap on BATTERY'
then 'un-tick' the box that says "When the phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
USB Debugging mode might be on. I rooted my phone and forgot to uncheck that box and once I did, it started charging again.
How do I Stop it charging from the computer on Gingerbread Hyperdroid

Cgarging inducator but percentage stuck
My phone shows charging when connected to pc but the percentage doesnt move

USB - Wiring for ADB?

Hi folks!
I want to connect an android device (it has usb slots... i can plug there 3g dongles, keyboards, wifi etc) with my computer to try to establish an adb session.
Is that possible like that (usb male - male)? Do i have to solder a custom cable - and how would he wiring be to force the android into "client mode"?
Any help is highly appreciated!

to wiring an usb cable is not so hard. normally you only need to solder the same coloured wire together, red to red, white to white, green to green and black to black. but there are already male to male cable to buy.
www.dx.com/p/ult-unite-ult-1234-usb...lated-data-connection-cable-white-60cm-269067
what does your android device have for an usb? is it micro usb or standard (type a)?
if you have a micro usb port so use an usb data cable, most of the charging cable does have data transfer support.
your computer even needs a driver for your android device to get working the adb.
good luck!
ps. on ytube there a lot vids how to... only search and destroy ( your android)

Hi! Thanks for your help! Its a type A jack on that device just like on the computer. Adbd daemon is on the device running but my windows machine cannot detect an usb device with direct soldered pins (or a bought cable which seems to have the same wiring)
I read about possible collitions when both devices of an usb connection are in host mode and that maybe pullup resistors on the data lines are needed - but i didnt fully understand that part. (Its different to the pin shortening of an usb otg wiring which can be found thousand times on google *G*)
can u describe exactly which cable u have used? and sometime the colors of the cable are not correct e.g. red is not +. those are build by chinese manufactures for cheaps goods. so u have even to measure the cable with a voltmeter.
and describe what happen when u plug the cable in the pc. normally windows is always running as main and android as slave.
as you describe u have an usb a type so i guess your android version is minimum 4.x and is already automatically on host status because you said u can put in a 3g dongle...so u have to go to the android command change from inside. i dont know much about linux programming so have to ask a developer. i only do developing hardwares not softwares, sorry for that.
what is your android device? with a datasheet is it better to solve your problem.
Hi KindsKoPP!
Thanks for your help and interest!
Basically I tested with a 1 to 1 wired cable I soldered by cutting 2 usb cables. I double checked colors (measured their output when connected to the computer) and found them ok. Then I connected them 1 to 1 (red-red, black-black, green-green, white-white).
But no usb device showing up or asking for drivers...
I know that adbd is running on the target device.
I pulled up some info here: http://www.valki.com/2014/12/04/analyse-av7/
I am still hoping that those usb devices who are in a double role (like our phones too with their usb otg host mode and client mode for mtp, adb...) are triggerable externally by using special soldered cables (resistors?) ... like "when resistor xy is on D+ -> go to client mode"?
