Hi, I have small problem with my universal charger. I tried to use another which is auto charger from 0.1A to 1A (standard USB), i try to use normal USB cable with mini usb end. And it is not working, when i used the same cable with computer it is working and charging.
Maybe someone have a mini usb universal connector scheme, how to connect (+5V and -5V) to charge, maybe I have mised something... how many A I need to put on it 1A, 500mA, 550mA ... ???
Thanks ..... Waiting ..... )))
Not sure if it's related, but if you try and use a standard USB cable with one of those cigarette lighter to USB power things it doesn't work. I had to connect pin 4 and 5 of the mini USB together to get it to charge my Exec.
Cheers,
Steve.
Which one is 4 and 5 ??? It is + or - Any scheme ???
Joning 4 and 5 is ok. Thanks ! Topic is closed.
Glad it worked.
Cheers,
Steve.

I've tried this with the Proporta CL->USB plug and found that if you plug the USB cable in with the Universal switched off, it will start to charge after 10 seconds, I can then switch my Universal on and it will still be externally powered.
Took a few weeks before I worked out the trick of switching it off and waiting for the orange charging light to come on!

Cannot charge xda executive with car charger ,when connected nothing happens light does not go red and also the connection icon does not show
make sure you dont have a faulty charger... dont know what you are using but i believe most people use the cigarette lighter to usb converter and then just use the usb cable... also have you tried pressing the on and off swith with the charger plugged in ?

car charger
Hi and thanks for the fast reply mate <yes it is a new charger from o2 .
No i have not tried the on off with the switch ,but would i still be able to charge when i am using tomtom
Whell....I use the cigarette lighter to usb adapter and usb cable ...at times i have had to quik press the on/off swith and at times plug and unplug the cable to get it to charge ....I used this as a "jump start" method only and no problems after that with using it whillst on charge (even with tomtom)..... other than that you may have a faulty charger or fag lighter to usb adapter (I never seen what a o2 one looks like).

Is the charger one especially for the exec?
I found normal usb chargers for phones like V3 or a GPS charger cant supply enough current to charge an exec.
hi, yeah i have had this problem, and so have a few of my clients, seems that not enough juice flows through the non branded versions, unlike from o2's or Brodits cables
I found that a regular USB cable into a Cigarette Lighter -> USB Socket didn't work until I joined pin 4 to pin 5 on the USB B Mini plug. All of the adapters I had that worked, but only powered (no data, i.e. Brodit and mains adapter) seemed to have pin 4 joined to pin 5 (pin 4 isn't normally connected at all). Once I did that mod it worked fine.
Cheers,
Steve.

Orange shops carry a charger intended for HTC manufactured devices (i.e. the SPV C500/M500 range) which works fine. Only £9.99.
I am in the UK and looking for a two pin euro charger for my phone - if it is packaged with a 12v charger or any other kit i dont really mind, as I could do with an extra car one.
Alternately - I have a 'plug' for a UK socket that instead of having a cable on it has a socket like a car charger at the back, so I can use it with a car charger for any new mobile I get so I have a second mains charger - is there a euro-two pin plg equivalent of this?
Cheers
Any USB charger (there are many varieties) should work fine, so you just have to find a Euro-plugged USB charger then stick the USB cable into the charger.
For example, I have the iPod USB charger with swappable front plugs, which charge my Wizard, Sony Ericsson phone and the iPod.
Exactly, but it is finding a two pin one that is the problem.
Try Expansys. They usually have a wide variety of weird and random plug combinations so you might be lucky there.
alternatively - a bit uglier - get a travel plug converter (just the plug converter, not the big transformers). The charger that came in the box is rated for 100V-240V and ~50Hz-~60Hz - so it'll work in EU, USA, UK, JP - as long as I bring the plug converter so that it'll physically fit

£5.99 plus postage. Uses the standard usb cable that came with the device.
I've bought a few things from them - good quality.

By default, the standard USB sync cable will not charge from a cigarette lighter / mains adaptor USB socket, it will only charge via a computer.
If you want to modify the cable so it will charge from a cigarette lighter etc, you need to short pins 4 and 5 of the mini USB end. Do a google search for a diagram etc. Once modified the cable will no longer work as a sync cable.

I am puzzled. I understand what you are saying about the connections, but what puzzles me is I have a GPS receiver that I bought which came with a flexible USB charger and had a cigarette adapter and mains adapter (both US and UK) in the box.
I bought a cradle for my Vario (complete with usb sync cable) so don't need the the usb sync cable supplied with the Vario in the office. So I use it in the car with the USB Cigarette adapter that came with the GPS unit and it charges the Vario in the car with no problem.
I haven't tried it with the USB mains adapter yet, but having seen the above reply will try it tomorrow, but I'm sure it will work because its the cable that should prevent it.

I beg to differ. My shiny white Apple iPod USB charger works perfectly as a charger for the Wizard, with the USB cable provided with the phone.
I'm aware that some phones including the Razr and Blackberry are sometimes reported to be picky about the USB chargers, but so far Wizard has no such curiosities.

Not really viable - as often when abroad i just take a rucksack and see where i end up - so ideally everything is light and preferably a cable that is permanently attached to the plug.
Incidentally - there is a company in italy called Wind doing a PAYG sim that offers a gig of data in Italy for 20 euros - so not much use to most here - but if you use it for roaming in europe - they drop it to 20% of that - so 204.8 meg for 20 euros per month - Tmobile charges 1500 and orange 2 grand for the same!
Hi I'd like to know whats the USB pin layout on the O2 Atom as my mini USB plug fell off and I'm trying to solder it back to gather.
So far i manage to get it charging again but I cant get data through it.
Also I wonder if anyone can tell me how to make a USB charging cable so that i can plug it into the PC and charge without activesync(without using WM5storage, just plug and charge) or I can charge via car charger(I know this can be done with a special adaptor but I'd like to make my own)
Help is very much appreciated Thx.
well i suppose that no one really know about it so if possible for those who already have thier Atoms opened up, take a high ress pic of the USB plug showing the pins and post it for me.
thx

actually i have a cable(which came with a universal battery pack) that allows me to do what i want but its in a bad shape hence I'd like to make another.
usb is pretty much usb htc's carry audio too but people report that normal miniusb in 1 end and usb in the other works just fine
and any device connected to usb's 5volt and ground get power even if the pc dont see it as a usb device it still provide 5volt and 0.5amps to them
thats how usb cup wamers and plastic dogs humping the usb port works
See here @ Wikipedia for details on pin-outs
So this may be a silly question, but I've just received the T-Mobile MDA (HTC Wizard) second-hand and without a charger.
The Mini USB port on the bottom allows ActiveSync and charging from my notebook's USB port, but when I try to charge using an AC-to-USB adapter it doesn't work... I've tried two different Motorola phone chargers and a generic one that came with my Jawbone that has a USB female connector on the adapter and you supply your own USB cable. I've used the same cable I was using when attaching to the PC, but no luck.
Interestingly enough, I did get it to charge with the same USB cable once at an airport by plugging it into the Southwest Airlines chairs with the USB power plugs...
So does anyone know? Does this phone require a special sort of charger?
you need a charger that is rated 1.0Amps.
usb is normally 500mAmps, not enough to charge your phone.
I can't seem to find a usb to "whatever it is" wire selling..
is it a standard micro USB port?

yes... u r rite... itz a MICRO USB...
But it can't supply power to a USB device, so it can't be used like a PC USB port. It's only good for recharging and syncing.
so if i want to buy an additional wire, i look for a USB to MICRO USB wire right? no need to buy from HTC right?
cause i saw one usb that is smaller but it doesn't fit.. is there a MINI USB port too?
am confused

Erm yes it can,
Actually better take the device with you. Sellers here told me there is like 7 different very similar connectors. However this one should be the standard micro USB, which is supposed to be universal charger/sync cable in the future (at least in EU).
And yes, of course, there is mini USB. And there even are more versions of mini USB, for example HTC used their own.
You had better use HTC cables. HD2 is microusb, but not all microusb cables are good for HD2. Like iPhone, it takes a large charging current, and many no brand cables cannot do it. I've got a third party cable that syncs only, but if charged from the PC, the HD2 will say that the charging current is too small. Battery actually drops when I connect HD2 to PC using this cable (because my options set it that backlight is always on when HD2 is connected). Other combinations are OK:
original cable + AC plug: charging OK
original cable + PC: charging OK
third party cable + AC plug: charging OK
third party cable + PC: "insufficient charging current"
Be careful with cables- you'd be better to buy the genuine HTC version.
Many USB/MicroUSB cables are for charging only, and don't have the data pins connected. Thats OK if you just want to charge it while you are away from your main PC or power supply.
You can also buy a miniUSB/MicroUSB adapter for charging using and older miniSUB charger, but again these don't have the data pins connected.
I bought a number of 3rd party USB to microUSB cables a month ago for sync and charging (office, PC, bedside charging), so far so good... no issues (maybe I'm lucky). The OmniaII uses the same connector, so I'm using the HTC car charger to charge both.
I bought Nokia's cable (for E71,N97,etc.) and it work just fine with charging from laptop. much cheaper than HTC in here.
if you are going for the cheapo option...
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=MICRO+USB+SYNC%26+CHARGE+CABLE+for+HTC+HD2+HD+2+Leo+T8585
i got a couple from ebay - arrived the next day. - charge/sync fine.
charger from iPhone
The iPhone charger coud be used for charging HD2. Just plug the microUSB cord instead of iPhones and ... voila. The same outputs
N86-8megapixel cable doesnt work..
So I managed to leave my HTC cable at work (2 days after getting the Telstra HD2 in OZ) and now I am on 4-5 days leave from work and really want to tinker with my phone. I think I may end up having to go back to work to collect the HTC cable - as below... challenge to get non-HTC cable to work.
I found that my wife's N86-8megapixel nokia has a similar micro-usb cable.
When connected to the PC the phone starts charging and the PC does the "doo-doop" sound a "appears" to connect to the phone, but active sync cannot detect the phone \ sync.
I see others have had success with nokia cables - I am wondering if there is something wierd going on.
