Earlier it use to charge.
Now I am able to sync the phone / transfer the data but not able to charge the phone.
is any setting changed? as generally I am online with my IM's so my battery drains early so when I am infront of my PC I plug it to USB, but from today onwards its not charging strange.

2 possibilities - if your wire has 2 cables, then one is for charging and one is for data.
the other option is that you have to terminate your relationship with the phone and establish a new one. if this is possible, then likely you will be asked wehther to delete sync files between the two or not. you may choose not to delete.
hope this helps.

This has NOTHING to do with charging.
Yes, check you didnt tick the box "do not charge when connected to a PC" in the power options.
If your battery is sufficiently depleted them the low output from your USB port may be too low to start the charging process.
Attempt the charge from wall charger and then try not to let the battery drain too much.
It is also posible that the power output from your USB port on your PC is defective, Usualy there is a fuse somewhere mounted on the mainbord and looks like a resistor. You can easy check this by using an other PC and connect the phone to that one. You don't need to intsall the ActiveSync on that PC to check. When that one is charging your batery..... Well you know.....
Oh, there is an other posible selution. Turn on your PC Joking
Are you plugging your phone into an external usb hub or directly into a usb port on the back of your computer?
I recently upgraded from an old tmo Wing and it would charge just fine off a port on my external usb hub. When I plugged my HD2 into the same port, it would not charge. If I connect my HD2 directly into the back of my computer, it charges just fine.
I'll be looking for differrent hub that provides more power and will allow for better charging.
if you POWER OFF the phone and it dose charge (orange led should appear near earpiece)
then your pc's usb and your usb cable are fine.
to fix,
go to 'SETTINGS'
and then at the bottom tap on 'ABOUT PHONE'
then tap on BATTERY'
then 'un-tick' the box that says "When the phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
USB Debugging mode might be on. I rooted my phone and forgot to uncheck that box and once I did, it started charging again.

I just bought my JJ and haven't put my hands on it. So pardon my ignorance, but can it be charged via its mini USB slot? The reason I ask is because I saw many sites advertising Lil'Sync cables for charge & sync. When looking closer I noticed that had a PDA2K type connector on one end and a regular USB on the other?
Any comments?
Cheers
Hi
The USB port is the *only* way of charging the JasJar!! Unless you buy a dock that charges a second battery as well I suppose.
Nigel
In other word's, you DO recharge the battery when you sync the Universal!
I can tell you with full confidence thhat the device charges when you plug it into your computer with the USB cable as I have had mine for nearly a week now and I still haven't taken the charger out of the box(!)

yeh it does charge through my USB from my pc, getting it to sync is another ballache that I still can't work out.
I sync with my PC via Bluetooth, it's so convenient. Never used the cable since XDA IIs +IIi and never have any problems with BT syncing whatsoever.
Whilst on holiday last week i had the same problem that you get with AS when the device is powered on, the usb connection problem thing.
but i was using a mains to usb charging plug, and a standard usb lead, to get the device to charge i had to switch if off and then plug it in, bingo it starts charging, so i dont think the issue is with AS on the PC. it could well be AS on the device thats at fault or something else.
just thought id share that
What was the normal USB lead for in this setup?
Device > Mains Charger I can understand, but were you daisy chaining or something?
Device > Normal USB Lead > Mains Charger?
Cheers,
Joe
Hello forum,
After researching it for a while, I'm curious if anybody knows if there exists a "Y-cable" to enable charging and syncing at the same time but with 2 separate cables.
I really annoys me to start and stop charging from my PC everytime I connect/disconnect the usb cable. So, what I want to do is to have the wall-charger connected charging the phone in a constant manner, but at the same time to be able to connect to the PC and experiment with whatever I want to to there! Even rebooting the PC can cause the charging to restart, so I want to eliminate this behavior.
Can the normal HTC Y-cable for charging/syncing + headphones be used for this job?
p.s. Enabling the "Do not charge while connected" Power Settings option is not what I want to do. I DO want to charge the phone AND have it connected to the PC.

I don't believe there is a cable for the purpose you want. However, you can use Activesync over bluetooht and accomplish the same thing.
This might work. It provides power for Seidio desktop cradles but in theory it should work without the cradle.

The USB cable will go from the computer to this device and the other cable will go out the other side into your phone.
I do the same thing charge my Tilt and can remove my USB cable or leave it charging if I turn my laptop off.

On note the end of the USB is a male USB port and you need to change it to a mini-male port.
This looks like the one I picked up.

fello posters,
thank you for your responses!!
The bluetooth option is more elegant, but as it is software dependant (BT stacks) I feel almost certain that I'll run into problems.
On the other hand, the Seido option seems to be the one that feels more "natural" and will do the job. I'll look more into that...
Again, thanks for the responses

I got the HTC cradle today and I was a bit disappointed to see that you need to have the cradle connected to a PC to have it charge and sync. You cannot connect the charger and the sync cable at the same time... is there a way to do it? I just want to be able to put the Pro in the charger in the evening and if my pc is on, sync at the same time
So what's the problem with that? Just connect the charger to your computer and it will charge, and it will sync if your computer is enabled...

It will not charge if my computer is turned off...
Use one of your onboard usb port which are always on (even when the pc is off). And if don't have one, you should get a new motherboard which supports that feature
USB hub with external power supply?
You could try the HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A200 or HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A300.
I ordered this same one instead of Kidigi model found on Brando. Figured I would just unplug sync cable and plug in AC adaptor that I keep on night stand?
Guys if you have a desktop PC chances are the usb ports are powered even when the pc is off. You can also check for this setting in the motherboard BIOS.

this is how i charge mine and sync with a desktop in my room. Laptop USB ports aren't powered on when the machine is off, though.
I have two laptops... The USB ports stay on when the laptops are in standby mode. If the phone doesn't charge, plug it in before closing the laptop lid (standby).
My phone wont charge through USB. It charges using the same cable plugged into a wall adapter, and charges just fine with my wall adapter and car charger, it just wont charge when plugged into a computer.
As for some basic troubleshooting steps-
1) The phone is recognized and syncs on both PCs
2) Hasnt worked from day 1, Factory ROM, Hard Reset, and now with a flashed ROM
3) Uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync etc
4) When it connects to a PC it prompts what I would like to do (PC and Phone) Ive tried every option and the results are the same.
I'm out of ideas, and since Ive searched Im not sure if Im an idiot for expecting this thing to charge, or if my phone is defective. I figured I'd ask here before calling T-Mobile since I hate calling Customer Service for anything.
Go into settings/system/power/battery and there should be a check box that says "When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a pc"
make sure that is not checked.
Thanks, but its not checked.
Ive tried checking it, plugging in, and then unplugging, unchecking, then plugging back in.
Switch off your phone, then plug it into the computer. Does the orange charging led show up? If not, you may have a defective phone.
If it charges with a computer usb while switched off and doesn't when switched on, then there is some software problem.

have you tried plugging it in to a different usb port? or different computer? my guess is could be a bad usb port..
not necessarily a bad usb port, some simply don't push enough power to trigger charging. same test applies, though, try all usb ports, don't forget there are likely ports around back too. also test it on another pc if possible.

I forgot my USB cable at work but this sounds like a good idea I havent tried yet.
My laptops USB ports are fine, I use them all the time for my external hard drive which is also powered by the USB, my zune, wifes iPhone, etc. Not to mention I have the same result with my work computer, which charged my other phones.
I'll try this and post the results, thanks for the helpful responses. After this test, I'm calling T-Mobile and complaining.
