Hey guys, I need some help. I bought a used G1 from a friend about a month ago. It's been great, I had no issues with it for a while. Then I had an issue where I took some pictures on the SD card, and then it would lose them and tell me I needed to insert an SD card to use the camera. If i popped the card out and back in, it worked no problem. Figured it was a faulty SD card, so I ordered a new one and figured I'd be done with it.
In the mean time, while I was waiting for my SD card, I installed Cyanogenmod following the instructions to a t. Everything worked great for about 12 hours. Then, I was talking on speakerphone, and in the middle of the call, I couldn't hear the person on the other end, but they could hear me. I reset the phone, and it worked again. An hour or so later, same thing happened, speaker didn't work on another call. I figured it was the speaker module, replacing it should be no big deal, etc.
Then, later, the send call and home buttons stopped working as well. Also, I'm getting reports that now all my calls are going straight to voicemail. I don't know what's going on. Anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions? Am I going to need a new phone?
Reverting to the stock firmware fixed the button problem and the problem with calls not coming through. Only problem left is that the speaker does not work at all. This includes ringtones. I guess I'm stuck with stock for now and I'll have to buy a new speaker assembly.

So this is just a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping maybe someone can help.
A few months ago, as I was walking out of a restaurant, someone was calling me, and just as I was pulling out my phone, some drunken idiot ran into my spilling his soda all over me and my phone. I quickly dried it off, got home and let it sit for the next day or so. When I turned it back on, it wouldn't read my sim, and there was a very dark spot left on my sim card. Then after some cleaning, magically it started working again.
About two weeks ago, the sim reader suddenly stopped working again. Everything else works perfectly fine, except for the reader. I've tried cleaning it, flashing new/old roms, and nothing. So I'm back to my Razor. Which sucks.
Does anyone know how to maybe replace, or clean a sim reader?
Thanks
The easiest thing would probably be to just get a new sim card. Most providers will give you a new one for free and transfer it to the new one your number without any hassle at all. It's definitely worth trying that before you try replacing the reader itself. If replacing it is what you want to do though, try the post by Dharvey about his MDA being dead and you'll find a link to the service manual. I believe there's also a link to the service manual in the wiki.
Thanx for the input. I actually tried someone else's sim card with no luck. I also just took my MDA apart, cleaned out a bit of the corrosion I found, and tried running it again with no luck. I'm beginning to think it's probably a circuit/resistor problem, which I know I wouldn't be able to fix with my electronics skills, so I think I'm going to sell it and get a Tytn II
Anyone interested in my phone for parts?

I had this problem once. Don't know if it is the same with your MDA, but you just have to move the simcard a little, so it's exactly in the middle of you simcardholder. If I moved it just a little to far up or down, it wouldn't read my simcard, but if I put it exactly in the middle, it always read it. Try it, this should work! I also thought my MDA is broken, but now it works again!
It might be worth testing with a multimeter if any components are not working properly. Also check the joints for dry solder spots, they reguarly happen.
I have the Energy Rom on my TMOUS HD2, flashed it about a week ago, and I haven't had the need to use the speakerphone until today. When I pushed the screen to speakerphone, nothing happened. I restarted the phone, and tried making another call, and still nothing. Is it something ROM related or is my phone busted?

My phone was doing the exact same thing. The whole screen was completely unresponsive, tho. The only way I could end a call was to push the button on the bottom of the screen. The mute key wouldn't work, either. I have the stock ROM and haven't flashed it or done the HSPL or whatever it is called. I posted this question yesterday and people were saying that it could be because of the SIM card. Mine is like 4 years old, and they recommended that I get a new one. I haven't tried it yet, tho.
Oh man! I had this EXACT same problem today. Going to Tmobile to activate the new sim that came w/ the phone, maybe that will help.
Anyhow, make sure all your contacts are backed up to the phone.
when I got the phone, it came with a Sim card. Since I have a habit of using the newest sim cards that come with my phone, I activated the one that came with it, so I know it can't be SIM related.

Ah! saves me the trip
Yeah, thats what I figured. Well then, looks like you are gonna have to hard reset your phone. That is probably what I am gonna do later today. This is the second time I have had to do this! IMO, this really IS the worst phone I have ever owned. My first smart phone was an MDA, and it was much better than this!!!
just got the phone a few hours ago. all i did was charge and put some mp3 via usb on the phone and not the earpiece is now working. speaker phone and hands free work fine but the earpiece does not. i would like to know if anyone else had this problem and how you got it fix? thanks in advance
Yes! This happened to me within the first few hours that I had the phone when I got it last week. It actually seemed to happen in the middle of a call, I thought I pressed a mute button or something.. I posted a panicked question about it over on the pocketables forum, and never really had anyone respond or say it happened to them.
My phone is working now, though I don't know why the earpiece stopped working or what I did that actually fixed it. I had just installed a boatload of apps and I figured one of them might have mucked things up, so I first did a factory reset. I don't remember the exact steps, I believe I had the volume buttons down while powering on the device and it brought me to some boot options, one of them being the reset.
Unfortunately, that didn't work. I power cycled it a few times, reinserted the battery a few times, and reseated the sim card a time or two. Finally, after one of those bootups, it worked!
It has worked for me since, though now I am a little concerned about the reliability of the phone. I came from the iphone world, and while many may find Apple evil, I never really had problems with the phone functioning..
I would feel a million times better if someone had said "oh yeah, it happens, just do this, this, and that, and it should all work", but so far I haven't heard of anyone else who experienced this issue.
Aside from this -fairly major- issue, I LOVE my Streak!
I heard that someone else had this issue and the problem was fring. He uninstalled it and ear piece worked. Couldn't find th post but did one of you used fring befor this happened?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
No I did not download fring. I didnt even download any app that deals with sound.

I hadn't downloaded Fring either..
well I went to. Bed upset thinking would have to return the phone only to wake up and have it working. I didn't thing special and now its working like nothing happened.

Happened to my first one after 2 weeks. Took it back got a replacement no questions asked. They let me keep the sd hard to because there was no one there to transfer my pictures.

Very strange, but basically the same as mine, it just started working again magically. I wonder if we should exchange them? I haven't had any problems with it since though... but it has only been like 6 days.
I figured out whats the cause of the problem. After the phone startedd working again I received a call and it when out in the middle of the call and was out the whole day. I called at&t and have them change my account to the sim card that came with the streak and as soon as I put the new sim in it started workimg again. Hope this helps

I had this happen to my phone the day the 2.1 update came out, so i updated and it was working then again the other day it stopped. I decided to take it back to o2, but i dint want to take it in with 2.1 so i put 1.6 back, the speaker still didnt work!
About 1pm the day was going to take it in i got a phone call it it suddenly started working again!!! no idea what was going on.
o2 changed the handset for me no problem at all.
I've just noticed this fault on my Streak. Since I've had it for over 2 months, O2 won't swap it, and say it's a 14 working day repair job. 3 weeks! Starting to think maybe I'll just buy a bluetooth headset and put up with it being faulty. But seriously, I need a reliable phone, and confidence that if someone phones me, I can talk to them!
I GUESS this is a hardware thing? People seem to be saying it's SIM related?
This Happened to me the other day. Everything else is working fine. I had updated the firmware to 2.1 a couple of weeks previously. I brought it back to O2, and they sent it away for repair. Just waiting for it to come back fixed. While looking for a solution online, other android snapdragon phones were having similar issues. It did work perfectly fine on speakerphone, though.
I got my dell streak back. They sent me a new unit, saying as they could not repair it within 7 days, they did not want to incoviniance me. This one seems fine. I was also told (off the record) that this was a known fault with a limeted number of the first couple of batches of the streak.

This happened to one i just bought recently, earpiece never worked properly, upon receiving a call, i could hear the other party for a few seconds then it cut out, i had to use the speakerphone to finish the conversation, it now has to go to hungary for repair, what a piece of junk.
Hi everyone.
Has anyone found a solution for this problem yet?
I now also have this problem and since the contract has just finished can't take it back to O2.
It's intermittent, might have earpiece problems one day - might not.
Doesn't seem to have anything to do with changing the sim as some have suggested, that's made no difference to me.
Thought about replacing the earpiece myself.
Any ideas?
Had the same problem...earpiece speaker not working...it seems that the earphone jack socket had slightly moved & not making good contact. Used a jewelers screwdriver to shift it back & now not a prob...
So in the last couple weeks my phone has developed a really strange issue. When I put my phone in my pocket for any amount of time more than a few minutes the phone gives me a message saying that I need to install a valid sim card. At first I thought it might be a ROM issue so I tried several different ROMs including stock and have had the problem with all of them. I left the phone on my desk at work all day yesterday and it worked fine. Put it in my pocket to walk from work to my truck and by the time I got in to drive home the message was back. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing before?
Also, just got a new sim card on Wednesday and that didn't help at all.
So I know this problem has come up before. I've been researching threads but have had no luck fixing my problem.
The problem is, there is no sound during calls. Not for me or the person on the other side.
The "Call Connect" sound works. It bleeps when the phone connects but there's no ringing or anything like that.
I don't even get the "Please enter your password" dialog when dialing voicemail
I've got the AT&T i337 on OC3 rooted.
I have tried multiple Roms including flashing back to stock.
I have tried removing the Sim Card, SD card, battery and putting it all back.
Re-flashing the modem does nothing.
Whether I turn on or off speaker phone there's no change.
Although I have not done Sim card tests to see if it's the sim card or not.
But any help is appreciated
Update:
I flashed Aurora S6 with all the files I'd need to.
I then dialed my Voice mail and pressed the record button. Apparently the signal Is coming through. But it is not being relayed to the speaker as well as my voice is not being sent out. Does anyone know why this would happen? Or if there are any files that could be corrupted?
Thanks

I have fixed my problem. It was a hardware issue.
There is an Audio chip in the motherboard that is dedicated to calls.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8PWlyPHLC...ng-galaxy-s4-audio-ic-check-for-repairing.jpg
The above link shows where the chip is. I read that if you place a piece of paper or something like that to put a bit of pressure on it, it may help with the problem
Luckily it worked for me.
Do this at your own risk.
I completely cracked the casing trying to get it open.
thank you very much. i did follow your method. but no successful. my case is cracked. beacause it is old.
i carried it to repair station. it is ok. then i flashed many custom rom. now it fail again. i must carry it repair station once more
