Hey, I have an HTC Pure, and the stock ROM has been driving me crazy since I got the phone a few months ago. So yesterday, I finally took the plunge and flashed Dutty's Holy Grail ROM.
Afterwards, I have been getting significantly worse signal strength then I did with the stock ROM. I've gone from ~4-5 bars to ~1-2. I just finished a new radio to the device, specifically this one, 4.49.25.91
Aside from the occasional extra bar, there have been no real improvements.
Please, if anyone knows any steps I could take to fix this, I'd appreciate. The battery barely lasts half a day know because I have 1 bar the majority of the time.

Just keep trying different radios. .91 works okay in SoCal, but I had better battery with .17
I had no signal after flashing HG 10 but after a hard reset it came back. You may want to run the connection setup wizard.
Some older dutty's HG ROMs had that issue, try to search forum here and on htcpedia.com
post your concerns in the ROM's thread instead of opening brand new threads.

Hey everyone, I hate asking questions in forums...i never feel i did enough searching, but i think i did enough this time.
I have been using OpenTouch Biggy v3.0 for quite sometime now on my wing. It runs pretty well, but i had an issue where my battery went from lasting close to 2 days, to lasting half a day or so. My phone habits didn't change nor did any settings, So i reinstalled and the battery went back to lasting 2 days again. But when i was researching i seen that OpenTouch v5.3 biggy was out so i installed that version about 3 times. Each time the top bar is missing and will not show. So instead i installed v4.0 biggy and my battery is back to not lasting very long. I really enjoy using Opentouch, I have tried the others but always end up back with OpenTouch. Anyone else have this problem?
Another thing i would like to know and i might be wrong here(i haven't run OEM Windows mobile in quite sometime) But is there anyway to get the original AIM app from the stock rom? I want all the Biggy apps to though. I do have Palringo installed and have been using that for a couple weeks now. Not sure if i like it though.
Sorry if this post is messy or unclear im working off about 3 hours sleep and need to get to bed!
Thanks for any help!
here is an example of my battery problem. I unplugged my phone at 6:14am made maybe 3 phone calls equal to about 10 minutes total. Used the internet for about 20 mins and now at 11:21am i am at 42% battery. With OpenTouch v3.0 i could of tripled that and tonight around midnight when i would of plugged my phone in the battery would of been closer to 70%.
Would love to get some answers on this, if anyone knows any settings i can change or what not.
Thanks.

You sure it's not a bad battery? They have had a lot of problems with the Dynapack batteries.
I found an article saying that T-mobile and HTC are replacing the dyna-pack batteries. but my phone doesn't seem to over heat. Also, if i put OpenTouch V3.0 on my Wing the battery will last longer again. I think its something in the software settings.
Here is a link to an article i found http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/tmobile_replacing_overheatable.html

I think that ttran made Open Touch 5.0 and higher have the radio that gets better reception, but pulls more power, but I don't think it was supposed to pull that much power. When I tried the 5.0 series, I didn't notice a drop in power at all versus 3.0. Hmmmmmmm.
Well with the v5.0 i am not sure if the battery dies quicker or last longer, i don't get a top bar after installing it. So when i installed v5 i kept it for an hour tops and reinstalled 3 times in a row, then went back to v3.0 or v4. My problem seems to be with V4.0. I like the looks of it and would like to keep it. but i can't deal with charging my phone 3+ times a day.
I did see a post that says some people wanted to keep the radio from V3 on V4. maybe ill try installing that and see if that fixes the problem. I will let you know the outcome.

You could install batterystatus so you can see the remaining power.
I can see the remaining power, that is how i know when the phone will need to be charged. What i meant was i have not left OpenTouch V5 on my phone long enough to see if the battery lasted longer or not.
When I get home i am going to put the V3 Radio on my V4 phone. I will let you know the results.

Ah, I gotcha....Yeah, I'm running v3 radio and it seems to be the best out of the bunch for me.
Well i did more research and found some Radio upgrades and what not. I figured why go down a version on the OS when i can upgrade the radio version. OpenTouch V4 comes with Radio 03.12.90, So i updated to 03.18.90. I will just have to test this for the day to see how the battery life is. From what i read it was about 60/40 of good/bad. I guess if this radio sucks as much juice as 03.12 i will just try going to 03.21.90 and what not.
Now to figure out why the topbar wont show up in OpenTouch V5.3 for me. I love TTrans roms! I'd like to stay up-to-date with him. =(

I think it's a file in the startup. It might be cleanstart, but I can't remember for sure. I think if you slide the keyboard out, it comes back, but I remember reading about this somewhere...
Well i gave up with the radios and put in OpenTouch v5.2 org. Then i extracted the NBH file from the new release from Tmobile and flashed that to my phone. It seemed pretty quick and what not. But i ended up saving the OZ IM program file and flashing OpenTouch V3.0 again and added the OZ IM from the stock Tmobile rom and it actually opens, but it wont connect. Oh well.
I am looking into cooking my own roms now and have followed a guide to create my own OEM. So maybe ill become one of the known cooks =)
Problem
I have a problem, my cube doesn't work like the way it shoud btw i have open touch 5.0 , so like the regular cube to open it u slide ur finger from the bottom to top and it pops up but not in mine, i have ramdonly slide finger in many direction multiple time for a while before it comes out, so please tell me is there something wrong
I ended up installing OpenTouch V3.0 last night to test the radio in it. Well my phone was unplugged fromt he charger this morning at 8:15am and it is now 4:17pm...the battery is at 72%. The radio version is 03.07.90, not sure if this is exactly what is making the battery die slower...but my reception is not as good as before. I am going to upgrade this Radio. I also downloaded Aserg's newest rom, I have never tried his.
As for the cube i am not sure. I have never used it. I will give it a shot this weekend and see if i can help ya out.
thx looking forward to it

I am surprised that the 3.12 radio drains your battery that quick. I have been using it in the OT 4 and 5 versions and now in Touch-IT touched by vista and I average 2 days of battery life before I charge unless I have been heavy on the internet usage. I have heard that the 3.18 and 3.21 radios drain battery life quick, but I haven't read too many complaints about 3.12. if you haven't tried any of the Touch-IT roms, give em a try, they are probably the most stable roms I have used yet, although I noticed for some reason with Touch-IT touched by vista my reception doesn't seem as good even with radio 3.12. I don't understand that....
I hope somebody can help me with this. I have a T-Mobile Wing and I can't get a signal in my office. I have no office phone to use either, so its really annoying because I miss some important calls. Also other employees in my office have AT&T and Sprint and there phone work fine. I've even had Sprint just a few years ago. At first I wasn't able to get a signal and then suddenly my signal maxed out in the same are. I'm not going to be able to opt out of my contract either. So I was wondering if anybody knows of any tweaks that can boost your signal strength. I'm willing to try anything and I'm only a slight noob (I recently just flashed my rom, first time I tried I bricked my phone but I got it back up and the second time i worked like a charm). So if anybody knows of any hacks or anything like that, that could work I will thank you forever.
P.S. No those little stickers on the phone don't work.
you can try to flash different radio into your wing. In my experience, 3.18.9 has the best performance.
Really?! Okay a few questions. I'm slightly a noob so how would I go about doing that? What would I have to change in my rom? Do you have any links that could show me how to do that? And finally I have flashed my rom by I was just changing the pagepool settings, will this flash effect anything I have already changed?
Flashing the radio just like flashing a new rom, but it only change the radio and the other is still intact. You will have to hardSPL your phone and then find the radio.nbh file, and flash it. You will have to do some readings regard hardspl and flashing. I personally don't want to give further instructions since I don't want to be blamed if you brick your phone or something. The other members had written very good guides (which should be much better than mine) on flashing and other issues.
Radio ROM 03.21.90 has the best signal with extended battery life. My signal improved and my battery lasts way much longer! Believe me on this.

I agree with the battery life, but on signal strength, 3.18.9 is better on me. I actually tried them two as the same time and same place. I flashed one and then tried the other. In my classroom, 3.21.9 has nothing but 3.18.9 has a bar. My guess is that it also depends on your rom. I heard different roms have different results. Anyway, try some of them and you will know what's best for you
So I have seen countless complaints on battery and reception regarding the new radio. I personally haven't upgraded it, but seeing as I have seen so many complaints, I'd like to hear if anyone liked the new radio.
I'm not sure if it's the ROM, peoples' location, or what is causing the issues for some people, but so far I am getting an all-negative reaction which makes me not want to update it at all...
Any thoughts specifically regarding the new radio??
i live in ohio and the radio update has improved my signal...at work i would never get an 3g signal and after 8 hours would basically need to throw my phone on the charger...after the update i feeel like i got an extended batter i never leave 3g coverage while at my desk its great i think the main thing it does is attain the 3g better thus improving battery through a quality signal...i am interested to see if it does have someting to do with location as ive seen the mass negativity about this radio update...my opinion people get cold feet about the radio and subconciously start hating it
i flashed the .03 radio. everything seems the same same same
The new radio has GREATLY improved my battery life, but I really cant tell any difference in reception.

Kind of agree. I can't tell a difference in reception but I believe it has improved my battery.
My battery keeps a charge a lot longer. Also since I've been getting better reception
Im running thr new radio with damage's rom, battery seems wayyy better and signal as well..internet browsings faster too.not sure if thats cause of the new radio or rom.goood stufffff
I haven't really noticed any difference in battery life or signal, not better but not worse either.
Don't really notice any difference after flashing the new one.
+1 better reception and battery here...
phx, az
Didnt seem to kill the battery any faster, I dont think.
It didnt seem to improve my reception
it actually seemed to make my data slower. im still testing this.
I have nothing against it, but Ive had sprint for 10years in my area and after a few months I knew how many bars I had at certain locations.
well after the upgrade I seem to get LESS reception (bars) then before. I dont experience dropped calls or missed txts, etc. so I see no point to go back to the old one. doesnt bother me
as far as battery life I have a 1800mAh battery they still hasnt had but maybe half a dozen charges so i cant really give you any better of an idea.
My battery life is a little better. My reception is not any worse or better really. I see less "bars" but bars don't mean much. My db reading is -75 in my office, which is the same as with the old radio. I do notice my data rates went from about 1100-1200 down to about 600-800 down at best. Upload rates went from 700-800 to 500-600. So I notice slower data which is a bummer.
my battery life drastically improved. i haven't noticed data difference.
I upgraded the radio at the same time I upgraded to the newest Fresh Rom. Shortly after I loaded damage control.
At first I thought my reception was worse but then noticed the signal strength bars only had 4 instead of 6, which makes it look like less signal. But my internet seems noticably faster (could be the 2.1 Rom) and I'm not dropping calls and reception is clear on phone calls.
As to battery life; again hard to say with the new OS, bit its not any worse than before. Still have to charge every night under normal use and sooner with some extra Pandora action tossed in.
I'm averaging 2.5 - 3% battery per hour with the new radio, but I also upgraded to a 2.1 ROM at the same time.
With the 1.5 ROM I was running and the old radio I was averaging 4 - 4.5% per hour.
I can't definitively say if it was the ROM or the radio that made the difference though.
I'm running an Andida 2000mah battery too.
-Daryel
I haven't noticed a difference either way...I went back to stock for the heck of it and everything seems the same...
Meh, its good. I feel like I am getting better battery life. Not sure though. Give or take.
I live in an area that no carrier has great reception, so yeah.
hey guys thanks for all the feedback. i was wondering about this too and since im on this thread i guess i can ask about what .zip file i should use for my rom? or is it the same? im running damageless. thanks!
I say there needs to be an experiment... would the same "differences" come up if a "radio update" came out that only changed the #'s of the baseband version, but said it was better?
just a thought.
So I am thinking of making the switch from 21xxx to 23xxx and I read somewhere that I will see a increase in battery life by doing so while staying with the same cooks roms.
Does anyone have an opinion on this? Will the newer windows builds really help my batter life assuming the same usage throughout the day???
Thank you,
Jeff
I'm using WinMo 6.5 and as for right now my phone has been running for 3 days already with 40% battery life.

Jeff, I'm was the energy 23138 sept 23 standard rom and 2.14.50.x radio. i was getting anywhere between 24 and 36 hours on a standard size battery. I am a heavy user and when i'm at home my wifi is always on, i surf the internet a lot and if i'm out i've normally got the music player going. I also have the facebook tab updating every hour as well as my location. I also use the gps quite a bit.
So i would say the battery life is good but i can't compare it to 21916 as i have never used that series of builds and it's been a very long time since i used a stock rom, so again i can't compare.
My advise would be to try it out for a few days and see if you notice the difference but i have to say i am very pleased. I've just finished flashing and configuring 21619 sept 24 so it will be a couple of days before i can get a comparison between 23138 and 21619 (as you will have seen from the enrgy rom thread these are both 6.5.x builds) but i'm not expecting much difference considering that they use the same drivers from the 3.14 tmous base and the radio hasn't changed between the two.
A plus point though, seeing as you use the energy roms, is that xda_uc will still be able to import all your settings if you go for the same "flavour" rom i.e standard for standard or cht for cht (unless you pick the new cht2 builds then your cht settings are not compatible)

Can someone tell me how this is possible? I've had my HD2 for about 4 months now and if I don't charge it daily it's dead the next day. I'm using the new 2.14 radio and Miri HD2 WM6.5 (21916) ROM V 19.1. I have Exchange and weather on auto update and everything else is on manual update. Any pointers is a big plus. Thanks.
BTW I've tried the 23138 but I can't stand the over-sized buttons on the bottom. It's just absolutely hideous to me so I have no idea if it gets better battery life.

Extended size battery (the one that needs the different battery cover), auto disconnecting data connections, and not really using it very much at all
thanks guys for your reply, man it sure sounds like I am sucking as far as battery goes, my usage is a fraction of yours and I can barely get 20 hours. I think part of my problem is that at work, I have poor service, going in and out of coverage as I walk around the building. I have to turn off 3g and I barely have edge. I am currently trying duttys cream de la cream now 6.5.x to see if is any different. man, if I had your battery life, I would never flash again! I have latest radio, tried many, and the 3.14 rom.
I will let you know how this one goes.
jeff
I really don't believe some of you about the absolutely ridiculous battery life. Especially if you are heavy user, no way! I've seen lots of HD2's (different ROM's/Radios/battery charging methods) and I want to tell people on this board that they don't need to be worried if their battery is dead after a long working day with heavy use. So, don't believe too much fairy tales and enjoy your wonderful phone.

It does seem a little crazy huh? I hear that some Iphone users can go three days with pretty heavy use and a few that I have talked to say that thier iphone can barely last 10 hours. There seems to be a ****load of variability in current consumption amongst all variants of smart phones.
I would just be pleased to get from 5am to 11am with moderate use, without having to buy that brick battery with the built in kickstand.
I will give this current rom a week to see how the battery settles down, ignore the sig, it is the Dutty CDLC V17 with the 2.14 radio.
Jeff
This was posted in the HD2 ROM section, but I thought it deserved a link in here as well, as explained after the link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801252
I flashed the latest HTC ROM yesterday and it comes with that radio. After a quick play with it I went back to Android and carried on using the phone as normal.
I've never had particularly good or bad battery life while using Android - it's just been ok. But last night was totally different. I was using wifi to surf and download apps from the market, and I played quite a lot of games. In total, I used the phone heavily for about 5 hours and only used 30% of the battery.
This may just be me, but that radio really seems to have made a massive difference. I just wanted to point it out so that anyone who has battery life issues may be able to improve their situation.
Hope this helps some of you
thanks johncmolyneux
wow another new radio, downloading now will report back later
