[radio] 2.15.50.14 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

This was posted in the HD2 ROM section, but I thought it deserved a link in here as well, as explained after the link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801252
I flashed the latest HTC ROM yesterday and it comes with that radio. After a quick play with it I went back to Android and carried on using the phone as normal.
I've never had particularly good or bad battery life while using Android - it's just been ok. But last night was totally different. I was using wifi to surf and download apps from the market, and I played quite a lot of games. In total, I used the phone heavily for about 5 hours and only used 30% of the battery.
This may just be me, but that radio really seems to have made a massive difference. I just wanted to point it out so that anyone who has battery life issues may be able to improve their situation.
Hope this helps some of you

thanks johncmolyneux
wow another new radio, downloading now will report back later

OpenTouch problems!

Hey everyone, I hate asking questions in forums...i never feel i did enough searching, but i think i did enough this time.
I have been using OpenTouch Biggy v3.0 for quite sometime now on my wing. It runs pretty well, but i had an issue where my battery went from lasting close to 2 days, to lasting half a day or so. My phone habits didn't change nor did any settings, So i reinstalled and the battery went back to lasting 2 days again. But when i was researching i seen that OpenTouch v5.3 biggy was out so i installed that version about 3 times. Each time the top bar is missing and will not show. So instead i installed v4.0 biggy and my battery is back to not lasting very long. I really enjoy using Opentouch, I have tried the others but always end up back with OpenTouch. Anyone else have this problem?
Another thing i would like to know and i might be wrong here(i haven't run OEM Windows mobile in quite sometime) But is there anyway to get the original AIM app from the stock rom? I want all the Biggy apps to though. I do have Palringo installed and have been using that for a couple weeks now. Not sure if i like it though.
Sorry if this post is messy or unclear im working off about 3 hours sleep and need to get to bed!
Thanks for any help!
here is an example of my battery problem. I unplugged my phone at 6:14am made maybe 3 phone calls equal to about 10 minutes total. Used the internet for about 20 mins and now at 11:21am i am at 42% battery. With OpenTouch v3.0 i could of tripled that and tonight around midnight when i would of plugged my phone in the battery would of been closer to 70%.
Would love to get some answers on this, if anyone knows any settings i can change or what not.
Thanks.

You sure it's not a bad battery? They have had a lot of problems with the Dynapack batteries.
I found an article saying that T-mobile and HTC are replacing the dyna-pack batteries. but my phone doesn't seem to over heat. Also, if i put OpenTouch V3.0 on my Wing the battery will last longer again. I think its something in the software settings.
Here is a link to an article i found http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/tmobile_replacing_overheatable.html

I think that ttran made Open Touch 5.0 and higher have the radio that gets better reception, but pulls more power, but I don't think it was supposed to pull that much power. When I tried the 5.0 series, I didn't notice a drop in power at all versus 3.0. Hmmmmmmm.
Well with the v5.0 i am not sure if the battery dies quicker or last longer, i don't get a top bar after installing it. So when i installed v5 i kept it for an hour tops and reinstalled 3 times in a row, then went back to v3.0 or v4. My problem seems to be with V4.0. I like the looks of it and would like to keep it. but i can't deal with charging my phone 3+ times a day.
I did see a post that says some people wanted to keep the radio from V3 on V4. maybe ill try installing that and see if that fixes the problem. I will let you know the outcome.

You could install batterystatus so you can see the remaining power.
I can see the remaining power, that is how i know when the phone will need to be charged. What i meant was i have not left OpenTouch V5 on my phone long enough to see if the battery lasted longer or not.
When I get home i am going to put the V3 Radio on my V4 phone. I will let you know the results.

Ah, I gotcha....Yeah, I'm running v3 radio and it seems to be the best out of the bunch for me.
Well i did more research and found some Radio upgrades and what not. I figured why go down a version on the OS when i can upgrade the radio version. OpenTouch V4 comes with Radio 03.12.90, So i updated to 03.18.90. I will just have to test this for the day to see how the battery life is. From what i read it was about 60/40 of good/bad. I guess if this radio sucks as much juice as 03.12 i will just try going to 03.21.90 and what not.
Now to figure out why the topbar wont show up in OpenTouch V5.3 for me. I love TTrans roms! I'd like to stay up-to-date with him. =(

I think it's a file in the startup. It might be cleanstart, but I can't remember for sure. I think if you slide the keyboard out, it comes back, but I remember reading about this somewhere...
Well i gave up with the radios and put in OpenTouch v5.2 org. Then i extracted the NBH file from the new release from Tmobile and flashed that to my phone. It seemed pretty quick and what not. But i ended up saving the OZ IM program file and flashing OpenTouch V3.0 again and added the OZ IM from the stock Tmobile rom and it actually opens, but it wont connect. Oh well.
I am looking into cooking my own roms now and have followed a guide to create my own OEM. So maybe ill become one of the known cooks =)
Problem
I have a problem, my cube doesn't work like the way it shoud btw i have open touch 5.0 , so like the regular cube to open it u slide ur finger from the bottom to top and it pops up but not in mine, i have ramdonly slide finger in many direction multiple time for a while before it comes out, so please tell me is there something wrong
I ended up installing OpenTouch V3.0 last night to test the radio in it. Well my phone was unplugged fromt he charger this morning at 8:15am and it is now 4:17pm...the battery is at 72%. The radio version is 03.07.90, not sure if this is exactly what is making the battery die slower...but my reception is not as good as before. I am going to upgrade this Radio. I also downloaded Aserg's newest rom, I have never tried his.
As for the cube i am not sure. I have never used it. I will give it a shot this weekend and see if i can help ya out.
thx looking forward to it

I am surprised that the 3.12 radio drains your battery that quick. I have been using it in the OT 4 and 5 versions and now in Touch-IT touched by vista and I average 2 days of battery life before I charge unless I have been heavy on the internet usage. I have heard that the 3.18 and 3.21 radios drain battery life quick, but I haven't read too many complaints about 3.12. if you haven't tried any of the Touch-IT roms, give em a try, they are probably the most stable roms I have used yet, although I noticed for some reason with Touch-IT touched by vista my reception doesn't seem as good even with radio 3.12. I don't understand that....

battery performance - damagecontrol Rom v 1.o

What is the absolute best setup for damagecontrol rom, to get optimal battery life. Cuz i cant seem to get the same results others are claiming, im not complaining, love the rom, just feel im doing something wrong or missing something. So plz share what ever info u can.
this needed a new topic ?
at least hes not cluttering the thread more than it allready is.....on topic did you do the radio update?? or are you just on damage with stock radio?
I'm seeing this issue too, and I'm using the stock radio. I've been very hesitant to update my radio, but if it's quite safe to go with one of the others I'm open too. Searching the main damage thread is getting to be very painful also. I'm all for spreading the wealth out a little more.
Very easy to do, it the same as downloading a rom onto your phone.
My main question with this radio update is if I can flash it back to the original radio safely? Especially if I end up wanting to use a version of the sprint official update to 2.1.
Was not really on topic, sorry!

Agreed... thats the only reason i decided to create a whole new thread, it was getting really difficult search the thread for the specific info i needed... anyways, im currently on stock radio because im a little hesitant to flash the new ones, but if it trully is the #1 source fot all the outstanding battery life, ill take the plunge later tonight. One more question, i just want to be completely sure that setcpu and overclook r no longer needed.
I haven't updated my radio, came from the stock Sprint to DamageControl V1, and from what I can tell my battery life is as good as it was on stock, if not better.
I haven't updated the radio as I'm like a lot of you, wondering what the exact changes are in it, and wondering how much risk I'm taking with doing it. I'm concerned that the change made is to lower the radio output/input levels to keep battery life up better, and that it is potentially causing some of the roaming that people are seeing.
Just flashed the updated radio yesterday. It's pretty much the same process as flashing the ROM and just as reversible. I think the battery life is better but haven't had a few days to really test it.
I noticed that with the stock radio, if reception was good, it was fine, but if reception was spotty, it drains like whoa.
My battery life was way worse with the new radio, I swapped back to the old one and am back where I was before the flash.

over 300 pages and over 3000 replies in the damagecontrol ROM thread... YES this needs a new topic.. and just in the same spirit as the devs are so nice to take their time and create these ROMs to help peoples experience, maybe it would have been more worth the while to help the OP with his question (seeing as u "tweak" things)
in fact there needs to be more new topics that encompasses the fixes and what-nots in the damagecontrol ROM
I would also like to know the optimal setup for battery. I'm running DamageControl and I can't plug in my phone for 10 hours each day...

For everyone who is having problems with this draining battery i have seen that damageless hasn't removed the GSD.apk removing it has helped my battery. to do this you connect your phone to the computer make sure usb debugging is enabled.
Pull up your cmd go to your adb dir mine is
cd C:/android-sdk-windows/tools
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app/
rm GSD*
ls (check and see if it has been removed) (optional)
exit
adb reboot
it has helped my battery life a lot
ps. damageless can you see about removing this in your next release

There's an app for this in the market. Called "Network" so that you don't have to type in that every time. I have it on my homescreen for easy access.
I have the newest radio and my phone is set to CDMA (auto), but my battery life is considerably worse compared to Fresh 2.0b. I can make it about 12 hours, with minimal use.

Extremely high battery drain (200+mA to 800mA)

G'day,
I'm a noob at flashing phones and have recently flashed my Telstra T9193 HD2. For the first day or so, a full charge saw me through the day. However, on day 4 or 5 a full charge gets sucked out in less than 5 hours. According to 'Battery Monitor Widget', its showing 489mA even with wi fi and BT switched off. My device's details are:
-Radio: 2.15
-[DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM
-HSPL 2.08
Any help with the above matter is much appreciated, I'm in love with android and don't wish to go back to winmo , please help!!! I'll take a moment and thank every one (yes, everyone) on xda for the countless posts and threads which have helped me in successfully installing NAND!!!
P.S.: My apologies, if I posted in the wrong area .
give a try changing kernels. you can found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929324
Thanks Xabhi, I'll let you know how it goes.
try and capture a log cat so you can see what is constantly running...could be a bad app
Spot on faceved, I uninstalled almost ALL the apps I had downloaded and vola its now between 3 and 7 mA (standby) but peaks almost to 300mA as soon as I connect to wifi and also after a call. However, battery drain gets overshadowed by the marvelous job (the) DFT have done with their rom.
Thanks for the advice mate.

Chefs - softbank Japan battery drain

This is a polite request that the wonderful chefs in this forum please look at the extreme battery drain issues that were brought up here... It appears that trying to run any custom rom on the softbank version of the device creates a huge drain.
I can run stock rom with custom kernels perfectly, so maybe there are just a few files that needed to be tweaked/removed from custom roms to prevent this drain.
Thank you for the time and hopefully there is a simple fix for this!
I am in Oki using a SoftBank 001HT as well and had the same problem till my phone took a swim and I got a new one. Softbank said they repaired it but I had a totally new serial number, the only part I got back from my original phone was the sim/sd card cover.
With my original phone Current Widget was reporting a -150ma drain in standby when everyone else was reporting -3ma. The only way I could get a -3ma drain was to have the phone in airplane mode. I am currently running CyanogenMod 7 with my new phone and now i get -3ma drain in standby with data on, wifi on, bluetooth on, and data sync on just like everyone else.
Try following the steps in this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080 And if that doesn't work try getting a new phone from softbank.

you just answered the question
by turning on airplane mode, you disable all radio functions. your battery drain stops so it's radio related.
try flashing different radios and see which one is the best for you.
I tried several radios and roms and still had -150ma drain with the old phone. I am using one of the same radios and roms that gave me -150ma drain on the old phone with my new phone and now I only have -3ma drain in standby.
My drain figures are just averages.

Thank you for clarifying that, cause i am on my 5th radio and none drain less than about 140ma unless in airplane mode.
So it must be something deeper than the radio.img...maybe a file in the ROM that wont let the radio ever go idle.
If someone could look at the files from a softbank japan ROM and compare them against the files of these other ROMs, we may be able to figure out the drain issue.
If anyone has any other ideas...please chime in!
Just for reference my stock ROM(the one that has no drain issues) is 1.35.762.2 CL277010
Just to clarify I am currently running CyanogenMod 7.0.0 stable release and radio 26.04.02.17 on my SoftBank branded 001HT with only -3ma in standby. I also ran it with radio 26.08.03.07 but my gps kept loosing lock. It was my old 001HT that had the -150ma drain problem.
The root and flash procedures I used were the ones on the on the Cyanogen Wiki page. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Looks like Softbank received a faulty batch of phones because I am having the same issues. Tried every rom/radio combo, but everything fails. ~150ma battery drain. The battery drain issue is getting rather annoying and I think I am going to do what you did and return the pos to softbank to get it fixed.
Did you root your old unit before returning it? If you did, did you unroot it before you went to the softbank shop?

It was rooted, Radio S-off, ENG S-off, Recovery Flashed, running one of the LeeDroid versons (even with -150ma drain with the screen off this rom gave me 6-7 hours vs. 3-4 CM7 was giving me), and I don't remeber what radio but it wasn't stock.
I was drunk at a bar when I knocked it in to the sink behind the bar and by the time I noticed, it was dead. I dried it with a hair dryer when I got home but it would not turn on so after I turned it in to SoftBank I dont think they could tell it was hacked or even cared since it was covered by the insurance.
I think hacking only voids the warrenty not damage protection insurance. Technicly if you brick your phone hacking it you damaged the phone and I assume the insurance would cover that. I only had to pay something like Y8500 and wait 2 weeks for them to "repair" it. They didn't repair anything, just gave me a new phone with a new serial number without the sim/sd cover and gave me my old cover back.
When I got my new phone the 1st thing I did was test it with current widget with the stock rom but the value was 0ma all the time. I went ahead and flashed it because 6-7 hours with LeeDroid was better then the stock rom and to my suprise i was getting the -3ma drain everyone was talking about so I flashed CM7 and still had -3ma standby drain. I thought it was SoftBanks network causing the problem at 1st, not the phone.
I don't think softbank users should assume that its a bad batch of DesireHD's just yet and try to get new phones. It could be other reasons and they should try the troubleshooting steps in the 2nd post 1st and try different rom and radio combinations and if they have tried EVERYTHING, then talk to softbank. I will post part of my 1st and 2nd serial numbers up when i get home and maybe they can be compaired or something then mabe we can confirm a bad batch.
I tried CM7 the last couple of days (which is very nice) and I didn't have any battery drain issues. That was my first Android Custom rom here in Japan on the Desire HD. I'm now playing with RCMix HD (also very nice) and I'll see how the battery lasts on that. I've not changed or installed any radios at this point. Are you sure you are using the correct APN etc?
(It can cost you a lot of money if you are not and your data bill is charged differently.)
On a second note: I really love this Touch Input keyboard in RCMix HD, and I'm not sure if the audio was better in CM7. If you try them out - please give me your opinions.
This is a double post reply.. I wanted to be clear that battery drain wasn't a problem with CM7 and I haven't changed or touched my radio. I'll see how RCMix HD holds up..
I am using Spike CM 7 right now. I like it a lot, but I'm only getting about 6-7 hours out of my phone now too. I need to figure out how to slow down the battery drain because it is super inconvenient to charge my phone twice per day.
My first phones serial number was:
HT0B6RX0**** <---- was BOUGHT 12/2010
Second phone was:
HT12JRXA**** <--- was MADE 03/2011
I am using CyanogenMod 7 and these are all the radios I have tried:
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 <--- Similar to stock radio
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF <--- Similar to stock radio
12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M <--- Poor battery life
12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 <--- Similar to stock radio
12.35d.60.140fU_26.08.03.07_M <--- Great battery life but GPS did not stay locked
12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 <--- GPS did not stay locked
The ones that I say are similar to stock are similar in battery drain and performance. 26.08.03.07 is the only one that showed much improved battery life but the GPS would not stay locked.
26.08.03.07 would give me 3-5ma 90% of the time with 60ma spikes 5% and up to 200ma the last 5%.
Stock and the other similar radios would give 3-5ma 50% and 150-200ma the other 50%.
Others my get different results. I am going back to 26.08.03.07 and check to see if the battery drain is as good as the 1st time I used it and to see if there is something I can do to keep my GPS locked.
OK, I have a little promising news as far as the battery drain! I flashed inspired saga v 1.0.1 made for the inspire 4g and I was getting a drain of 3ma with Wifi on and 1ma with it off(while screen is off)! The extreme downfall though was that a lot of programs were force closing, messaging and phone were broke, and cellular data wasn't working either.
So it looks like we may be able to use the inspire 4g roms as a base to see if we can get a working GB rom on our "mystery" softbank phones
Hope this helps!!

Got my dhd back from softbank the other day. I initially asked them to have a look at it because of the horrible battery drain, and possibly replace it but no dice. They said everything was fine with the battery (well of course, the battery isn`t the culprit in this case) but they did end up replacing the camera and the proximity sensor.
Still trying to figure out the battery life issue though. I tried the saga rom but the battery life isnt too great with that either. Maybe its due to the radio working properly with the new rom?
Did anyone try the new softbank ruu? Wondering how the battery life is with the new rom...
Do you have a link for it. I would love to test it.

Make sure you have radio s-off before flashing though. Flashing the ruu will replace everything including recovery and bootloader so you will need s-off to downgrade again, if you need to, using and older ruu.

Make sure you have radio s-off before flashing though. Flashing the ruu will replace everything including recovery and bootloader so you will need s-off to downgrade again, if you need to, using and older ruu.

DHD become faulty??

Hi,
Over the last few weeks I've noticed that my DHD battery is not lasting as long.
It has got seriously worse over the last 10 days. Phone gets switched on about 7.30am and by 4pm is nearly out of juice.
Not really doing anything with the phone - just sitting there on the mobile network with good cell signal. BT is off. Power saving is at maximum levels (no animations etc). It used to last until around 10pm and still have a good 6 or so battery segments left, but now it'll be dead by 6pm.
Nothing recently installed.
Any ideas on what may have changed?
Install currentwidget from the market and set it to log current usage. You will probably find your phone isn't going into deep sleep which is caused by a certain app.
Also see which app is using most battery. This could be an issue. On average 4-10ma on standby is seen.

I feel your pain buddy, my Dhd used to only last about that amount of time before I rooted, but then again I used to be at it all the time so not exactly the same set of circumstances. Must say I've been pretty happy about my battery life since flashing a new ROM but there's still no way i'm gonna get a full day from it
BTW - forgot to say that when checking whats been using the battery, it says display is the component that be using it the most.
I always hit the sleep / power button when finished with it so it doesn't drain the battery.

I've considered rooting it (It's an Orange UK supplied device btw) but I'm scared of breaking it.
I put a ROM on my previous phone so I do have some experiance of installing ROMs so I think it'll be ok if I did it.
Could I put the latest stock HTC DHD ROM out it without any issues and what benifits would I gain?
I've been very pleased with the virtuous unity ROM, it's got sense 3.0 and is super smooth, much faster than stock and better battery life. I couldn't see what benefit you would get from flashing stock room again though but i'm sure you could check it out on the forums if you're unsure.
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
And had no problems rooting whatsoever, just be sensible and backup your data and stuff and you should be fine I'd say. Dead easy process too, it's much less hassle than going through all the different steps that you had to before, just make sure you read through the details and you'll be fine
