At the top right of my screen, inbetween the 3G signal bar and the battery bar, there is a rectangle with two zig-zag shapes on the lower right corner of it. I don't know what this means or why it's there, can anyone help please? As far as I know, it wasn't there a few hours ago, and I don't think I've used the phone since then.
Thanks

One thread among another 6473 isn't really a flood... I would've checked the manual but its 2AM here and it's in another persons bedroom, I didn't want to disturb anyone.
Thanks for the answer, I can't believe it was that simple.

No problem mate. But i fear that the paper lying in the other bedroom is not the user manual but only a quickstart guide. The manual can only be found digital on the web as a pdf file
I'm actually glad you posted this message. I just sat down today to figure out the same icon! I have a new phone, plus I rarely put my phone on vibrate...
I'll be looking for that online manual (pdf) next.

hi ppl
i don't really expect any real help, but i'll try:
i like to read ebooks in my bed at night (and most obviously it's dark then , so those two blinking leds (green for phone and blue for bluetooth) are really bright and hurt my eyes.
is there any patch, hack to make them turn of temporarily ?? i know i could turn off phone and bluetooth - but that's no acceptable because i have to be reachable by phone.
thanks
regards ize|man
Try a bit of blue tack over the led light. Always does the trick! During the day you could remove it!
Do you think I should patent that idea???!
Yes, as i had the same idea months ago..
Or maybe some thick tape, like duck tape would do the trick.
Personally i like having a phone that flashes at me, it means its working !
Try turning your radio off.
I haven't found any other solution.
woooaaaahhhh ....
i was impressed to see THREE answers to my question. and all of them are more or less useless
of course i could put my mda in a box and then i even won't hear it, and electromagnetic radiation would be less as well but that was not exactly what i was looking for.
i was looking for some more elegant way - like some registry hack or something. and as i said turning the device OFF is no solution ...
thanks anyway
regards ize|man
Why look  for a complicated solution when bluetack was staring you in the face all a long!
Its like trying to make a bluetooth controlled machine to crack an egg!!!!!!
But anyway I have another idea. You can get these amazing silver pens. Just colour in the light!!!! You wont be able to tell the difference.
You can say that your xda is a special import from Timbuktu or something.
Always willing to help.(but sorry I'm not that technical)
Sorry, just one more idea, the last I promise.
I think the light flashes every 5 seconds. You could actually train yourself to blink at 5 second intervals so you miss the light.!!
How's that for a completely not technical, ingenious idea!!!
They didnt call me Handy Jack in school for nothing!
*looool*
not very useful - but very funny to read
regards ize|man
I have the same problem guys. During one executive meeting, i was requested by the chairman to get rid of the blinking yellow light. It was embarrasing.
The recommendations they made are all insulting. We really need help XDA people........where are you......
I'm sorry to see you took it as an insult.
Are you trying to see that XDA people are all grey suit wearing nerds who dont like a bit of humour?
I am sure the majority of the xda users in this forum agree that that is not the case. :?:
Besides, if you used bluetack it would have saved you the embarrassment in the meeting!
Damn this thread is hilarious, good job people
Okay, there isn't a way to turn off the bluetooth blue LED without turning off Bluetooth, however there is a way to turn off the green LED without turning off the radio. First make a full backup of your XDA II, then open up your favorite registry editor and search for "LEDMgr"
This should be in a key folder called Drivers in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, but I don't know the exact location right now because I do not have my i-mate.
Okay, inside this LEDMgr keyfolder is a string called "Dll"
Rename that to "xDll" then do a soft reset.
That should take out the green LED, leaving the phone radio on.
You can now read ebooks in total darkness and at work you can send an SMS to the person across the chairman telling a joke about how his toupe is about to fall off.
 Damn you technical nerds! We simpletons believe in blue tack. How dare you commit such sacrilege?! Blue tackers of the world unite! Blue tack forever!
The real problem is that we in the US have no clue what "blue tack" is (is that some expression for TAPE?). So as not to admit that fact, we must invent marvelous technical alternatives to solving the problem at hand. Either that, or Aceangel just has way too much free time!
Blue tack FOREVER!
or you could of just desoldered the leds off the pbc lol.
bluetack for all you american and others is like squashy sticky blue stuff like playdoh but its used to stick up posters and things and you can also get white tak also which is horrible stuff as its like chewing gum lol
Blue tack, my friend, is the blue non-sticky, yet sticky substance normally used to stick posters to non sticky walls.
I imagine you Americans call it, "non-WMD, blue CIA Approved sticky thang" (not available in Eyeraq due to potential misuse)
Browsenow, your right, aceangel needs to find someting more productive to do with his time. Wandering round the registry is a path frought with thorny prickles waiting to stick in the XDA reset button permanently! :x
One day they will realise and come begging for my blue-tack solutions. You'll see. 8)

Something funny hapened which reminded me of this thread.
A friend of mine with an xda refuses to use cases and he dropped it.
Funnily enough it dropped right on the green LED bit, damaging it!
Perhaps Blue-Tack was a waste of time after all. You need to strategically drop your XDA so it hits the right spot

I just picked up another 8525 after returning the first one to checkout the Blackjack. I wanted to make sure I at least tried it before my 30 day return policy kicked in. I noticed on my second 8525 the keyboard does not lock into PDA mode as secure as my first one. It seems that the top part of the phone locks better then the bottom. So when I hold it has a phone I tend to slide the keyboard open a little. Has anyone had these issues? It just seems to easy on the second one to unlock/open the keyboard.

I'm afraid this is a fairly common problem. The metal runners/sliders have small indents at each end (cannot see these unless device is dismantled) that create the click into place when the sliding blocks attached to the base part slide over them.
These indents are often too shallow to create a nice firm click and in extreme cases the actual runner has sprung apart where small micro welds have broken.
There are fixes for this but only for those that don't care about their warranty and want to dis-assemble the device. I have done this fix and it now requires a very firm two thumbed push to open. However I do not recommend you do this when there is the possibility of exchange/return or repair.
Mike
If you decide to do it on your own I can vouch for Mike's method. He emailed me the process and I posted it on the WIKI.

Yes Worked perfectly!!!
I have not done it yet, but plan to soon. To clarify what your fix does is that it tightens the sliding keyboard rails? or provide a better click when its closed?
Just read your site. I think that answered my question. Thanks, I will try and post my success (...or failure).
Great fix. One of the little but annoying things about the device fixed.
sliding keyboard then freezes
hello, I got my device ! I'm very happy but when I slide the keyboard, and here the left 'click' then it freezes.
It is very strange, is there anything I can do ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion

I don't think the "clicking" mechanism is what's making your device freeze. I believe its the display going from portrait to landscape mode what's probably making it freeze up. Have you hard reset to make sure there is no 3rd party today plugins that are having issues with switching to landscape mode?
sliding keyboard, frozen device
dear brmcguire, thank you for your answer. I think I have to be more precise.
When I slide the keyboard and stop before the "click", it is ok, it moves to the landscape mode without problem. Then, when I push untill it locks, on the right lock it is ok but when pushed untill the left lock, then it freeezes. To be precise, "freeze" means that the menu bar opens, and the tactil screen does not answer anymore to the pen, (I can still use the buttons).
That is why I believe it is a hardware malfunction, but I'm still a newby
Does anybody had a similar problem ?
Any help appreciated

I think we're all agreed it has to be hardware. There is no software that operates when the "left" edge clicks into place. There are two circuits that operate softwarewise when the keyboard opens
1. There is a small magnet operated switch that changes portrait to landscape and that's working fine,
2. The light sensor above the "p" key top right which operates the keyboard backlight.
I don't think either of these is responsible.
At a guess either the Multi connector Mylar Cable for the screen/digitizer connection is getting trapped/pulled/stretched and partially breaking its connection or the click into place is creating an internal squeeze against possibly the "windows" button hardkey next to the Green Phone Key.
I think like brmcguire that I'd get it back to shop while still in warranty perhaps after doing all the usual things like a hard reset - just in case we're all wrong and it is software.
Or you just never quite open it far enough to click into place. I do this a lot, partly because I've got a really firm click into place on both right and left sides that if I'm just quickly using keyboard I find I can get every key without the final clicks.
Mike
thanks

Don't know if there's a link, but after running and charging my phone on android i've just discover a shade on the top left of my screen. Of course the shade is present on WINmo too... Those days i've noticed that the colors of my screen weren't normal but it disappeared after a soft reset or takink of the battery. Was it a sign? Now i really have a problem with my screen but it probably come from taking it in my pocket or something like that...

IMO, i think its because of part of the backlighting going out. id think its from dropping it and it landing on a corner. but it could just be bad backlighting components.
Send it in if its under warranty. If not, Use the insurance that you SHOULD have bought.
let us know if it gets any better/worse.

There're different kernel with several voltage, so i was thinking about voltage or over heating during charging or overcloking CPU..perhaps.
It seems that the shade move on the screen.
My phone is under waranty for one more year, so i wait a little to see how it goes.
Hi Guys,
So I just picked up my DHD yesterday and I've just encountered a major (I think so) problem with it.
Everytime I hold the phone in my left hand (i'm a righty) my wifi cuts out.
After a bit more investigation I found I could replicate this problem consistently by with just one finger, touching the battery cover just below the + sign.
Do I have a faulty set with poor shielding or are all sets like that??
I've tried to make a (poor quality) video of my problem but I cant link to it here!
Apologies in advance if this issue has already been addressed!
Doesn't seem to do it with mine, is it worth checking the battery is secure?
Same problem, I think it's normal.
Have you still taken a look at the User Guide (at the bottom at page 13 on english user guide!)?
There is described that bluetooth and wifi-antenna are placed under the battery cover. So it's not wondering, that wifi signal-strength decreases if you put your hand on it!
I think it's not a special problem of the DHD!
There's also a youtube-video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2SB5rQTMyY&feature=related
This was a video I took of mine:
I dont even need to cover the entire batter door, just a finger is enough! And to make things worse, its in a nearly-impossible-to-avoid position.
Could it be that the battery door on my phone is not properly shielded?? I have yet to hear of a phone that lost WIFI reception just because u held it wrong
Anyone else getting this problem??

I'd never noticed it until now, but mine does the same. I don't find it a problem because I have a gel cover on mine to protect it, and this gives enough spacing between my hand and the phone for it not to cause any signal drop-off.

Just had to comment since this whole forum is getting out of control.
People complaining about "non-problems"
Speaker phone volume is too low - cant sit in my truck and listening to music
(Never had a phone were I could do this)
Screen angle is bad - Cant flip the phone upside down and read what's on the screen
(What!!! Is that really true!!)
Bad build quality - there is a 0.1 mm gap at the sim cover
(Way the hell are you looking at that side of the phone for?)
and so on....
I can tell you I don't have this problem.
Would never hold my phone in such retarded way!
Sometimes a red pixel shows up on the left side of my notification bar and one time i saw it above the wifi icon. If I expand the notification bar it goes away. Anyone else get this? Could this lead to something worse? Never seen something like this before

I get that too, I thought I was the only one!
I thought it was permanent the first time I seen it, good thing it isn't!
It only happens maybe 1 time a day so its not that big of a deal for me
Happens more than once a day for me. Mostly happens when I first turn on the screen or when I'm changing brightness. Is yours in the same spot?
