Don't know if there's a link, but after running and charging my phone on android i've just discover a shade on the top left of my screen. Of course the shade is present on WINmo too... Those days i've noticed that the colors of my screen weren't normal but it disappeared after a soft reset or takink of the battery. Was it a sign? Now i really have a problem with my screen but it probably come from taking it in my pocket or something like that...

IMO, i think its because of part of the backlighting going out. id think its from dropping it and it landing on a corner. but it could just be bad backlighting components.
Send it in if its under warranty. If not, Use the insurance that you SHOULD have bought.
let us know if it gets any better/worse.

There're different kernel with several voltage, so i was thinking about voltage or over heating during charging or overcloking CPU..perhaps.
It seems that the shade move on the screen.
My phone is under waranty for one more year, so i wait a little to see how it goes.

Might have been just a weird coincidence, but the colour scheme on my X1 temporarily switched to 16bit colour between 11:55-00:30. A restart seems to have rectified it, but after reading the stories about the Zune, I just found it
same happened to me a few weeks ago but all has been well since.
and there i thought it was the new 2.009k bug.
Same happend with my X1i last night (noticed around 23:00), but I just had to turn off screen (stand by) and turn on again to get the normal colors back.
Something similar has happened to mine as-well.
Lol, what a strange "feature"! I had a rather odd occurrence last night to do with the screen as well, but it wasn't quite the same as you guy...
I had the "milky whiteness" (no sniggering at the back!) that's in the top corner of my screen spread to all four corners and to a lesser extent on the sides. I was a bit worried about it, because it was very visible, but a soft reset cured it.
The only thing that I can think affected it *might* have been one of my christmas presents... I got an USB plasma ball, which it does state on the instructions to keep it away from electronic devices as it generates an electrostatic field. Well, I didn't pay much attention an put the phone next to it without realising.
So, erm, keep your X1 away from plasma balls?

so if you play with your balls near your x1, the screen might turn milky white, yep i can see that....
I've been inspecting my phone very carefully, and I noticed under the screen (When turned off) there is an outline of a box near the center. I'm wondering if anyone else can see that or its just my phone
http://imgur.com/ahzNP.png
The red line shows where the box lines under the screen are. I know its probably nothing, but I've never seen such a thing before in any screens.
nope, cant see it on mine, ive had a look indoors and out to see if i could get it to show up.
mainly ive been trying to get the little loading icon to show up so i can marvel at how it looks more like some sort of illustration rather than something onscreen.
try to turn off phone and try on bright sun light.
Can see this on mine - hadn't noticed it til you mentioned it
I had to use an LED keychain light on it to see it though so hardly a problem - it looks like some of the components that sit behind the display.
Try watching that dissection video and see if anything like that shape comes up.
I have to ask-
Why the hell would anyone care, if it's so hard to see that you actually have to search for it closely under sunlight/flashlight, and only when the screen is off?
Its a secret camera ! government is watching you !

Well I can actually see mine easily when it's switched off and in under normal lighting conditions.
Due to the fact that people don't tend to stare at screens when they're off, i still don't think it really matters....
Well sorrrrrrrrrrrry. Someone tell the scientists to stop wasting their time look at stemcells because we can't see them with the naked eye.
Hey Pika, there's no need to be like that. I was merely curious about this because I've never seen such a thing before in any kind of screen (as mentioned in my first post) and I assumed it was some sort of fault with my phone.
Now I know it's fine so I'm okay with that.

it's an embedded sensor filament under the screen. I've seen it in bright sunshine when the screen is off. So no. Your not crazy.

Based on the image you have drawn: Screen burn-in of the large battery-charging indicator?
Not sure if burn-ins are visible when the screen is off though, probably not.

Sensor filament?
Anyway, all SGS phones have it so don't worry about it. It's just the way it's designed.
It's most visible in sunlight with the screen mostly black or off.
I was also worried when I first noticed it. There have been a couple of threads about it before.
Hi All,
Does anyone have a vertical line across the screen on the left side of the screen? You may have to use the light theme in order to see it or go into the e-mail application and look carefully.
I am not sure if it was there all along or I have just noticed it. Is this because of the type of screen on the Omnia 7?
If other people have it then this must be because of the AMOLED screen, if not I may need to send mine back for repair. I will appreciate any answers on this.
Thanks
Nothing like that on mine mate - sounds like a fault/defect so i'd probably send it for repair.
Cheers

The first time I saw this was when I installed WP Bench from the market and clicked on 'display' and the choose 'Viewing angle', this is the last option. I can clearly see the vertical black line running across the screen.
Can anyone try this? Thanks.

On a white screen i sometimes get horizontal lines flickering across. Never really bothered me too much, a soft reset cures it or it goes away after a time.

That wrecks my head :S
A product should never malfunction like that.
Even better of my phone wont charge anymore so its sent of for repair :S
On my one I can distinguish a vertical green line on a white (or something close to white) screen. My guess is that this is because of the PenTile layout of the subpixels. I'd have to check with a mates Galaxy S to know for sure though.
hi. i am using 2 phones the nexus s and the gs2 .
and i noticed something on my gs2 and i need to ask you people about it.
the phone isnt like 3 weeks old. its brand new. however i noticed a temp screen burn in on the following places.
when i use the keyboard for txt msging. if i pull the keyboard down " by pressing back ", i can see the squares of the keyboard on the screen for like few seconds before they dissapear.
i also noticed the same thing in the status bar, battery meter. specially in the browser or an hd wallpaper app called " HD wallpaper "
when i downloaded that app. i turned the wireless and went through the app. now its trying to load . if i switch the screen to the side. the status bar will tilt as well. vertical horizintal depends on the way you move the screen. and i clearly can see the marks of the status bar for few seconds before it dissapear again on whatever verticial or horizintal/
what is the issue here ? i cant call it burn in because its not permenant.
i noticed the same thing with Miui on the nexus S. but only on the status bar. nothing on the keyboard.
any idea peeps
is it some sort of memory effect or bad refrish rate ?
Someone else had this. I think it was related to apps or widgets they installed. It's not normal. Do a search and see if you can find the other thread. Try searching on "ghosting."
i was searching through ghosting. is this normal with everyone here ? or some people dont have it ?
i think you should be carefull with your phone, if you leave it to much on the same background it will burn in easelly, oled burn in as easelly as plasmas when it comes to leaving them on the same image over and over again, try see if you can change yours, i certainly have no such issues with none of the 2 i had nor with this one.
PS: depends on what you mean with ghosting, if you mean the pixel response time beying visible when moving an image fast then yes thats normal, even though oled have 0.01 ms response time this one is deffinitly higher as i can notice it easelly.
i have a screen burn in on my Nexus One, annoying at times when i do notice it.
Yes, I have this. Had a thread, temporarly burn in. I can see it when I type a message.
Just when the keyboard is visible and I pull down the notification bar, I can see the contoures of the keyboard letter there... Probably happens with other things but aren't that noticable on other colours than grey I guess...
i can also see some weird banding or whatever on a pure gray image, not sure how normal this is but ive noticed it with all of my 3 phones.
ghost image disappears for me within 2 seconds (very hard to see unless if you look at the screen hard), definitely not a problem, and wont be killing myself for this or even consider it a hardware issue.
i also facing a same problem as u guys, now waiting for service centre to replace my lcd.
This ghosting issue seems to happen with all phones, very visible when your using the keyboard and you drop down the notification tray, then it goes away after a couple of seconds.
Two issues here. First off, search the forum for burn in, its already been posted.
Two issues, the temporary burn in is new to the galaxy s2 and seems to go away after a few seconds. But all Samsung amoled screens suffer permanent burn in of the status bar, click time, and anything else in a static place.
My nexus one has permanent burn in right now, both status bar and keyboard. Original galaxy s and others has this also.
The temporary burn in seems to be different and only on this new amoled plus display so far.

i did search the forum before i post. however. as far as i know . burn in screens are permenant. and the other threads talked about that. here i am talking about something that goes off after few seconds. something like either ghosting / or something about low memory / low resposne / low refresh rate of the screen. not a real butn in.
I've recently bought a Galaxy S2 from someone and didn't see the burn in until a few days ago.
Now I can't reach the guy to get my money back... the phone seems in perfect shape except for the burn in (status bar and some digital clock widget).
I've been trying every day now to run this app called Screen Burn-in Tools for an hour or so but nothing happens.
You can find the app on the Google Play.
Should I continue using this tool or this burn-in is permanent and there's nothing I can do about it?
I can't believe such a high end phone has such a poor life display... how can this be possible!?!? They should've stayed with the regular LCD or something.
It's too bad because I'm a fan of the OLED idea and technology, but unfortunately samsung owns too many patents for this technology to spread to other manufacturers as well. This is what happens when the damn corporations get their greedy hands on something great that can benefit the mankind!
Hello guys !!
So I just discovered my screen doesn't work well anymore. Nothing is broken and my phone didn't fall or anything, but now when I scroll my screen it's split in the middle of the screen.
For example when I scroll down my screen the right part follow my finger, but the left part is a bit late. There is a time lag everytime. I can see this disconnection when I'm watching videos too and that's really annoying. Also sometimes my screen goes black for few seconds and comes back to normal.
I tried to turn off and on my phone but it didn't change anything, restart it either. I'm not really good with technology so that were the only manipulations I tried. I don't know why my screen is like that. The only thing I can think is that the day before my phone turned off by it self because there was no more battery.
Please can you tell me if something like this happens to you, and if yes what did you do to fix it ? Or if anyone has a solution for me, I would be really grateful.
Thank you in advance.

Did you install any weird apps lately?
Just do a factory reset, that'll probably fix it. You can back everything up from the settings anyways

Hey ! Thanks for your answer.
No I didn't install any apps at all lately. I did factory reset and it didn't fix the problem
But it's a bit better, it seems the screen doesn't go black anymore, but there is still the disconnection in the middle. Especially when I'm looking at videos or when I want to make picture.
I don't know what can be the problem
Try to squeeze the phone with your index finger and thumb, a half an inch besides the spot between the volume switch and power switch. There is an internal screen connector there that can get a bit loose

Thanks for your answer Waancho ! I tried your solution but it didn't work either. But now I think I might know why my screen is like that. One night I fell asleep listening music on my phone and when I woke up it was totally discharged. I could urn it off, I had to charge it a bit first. When I turned it on the screen was split and the left part of the screen was higher than the right part. I know it isn't good to let the battery discharged completely.... ?
Do you think the battery is damaged ? If yes, is there a way to fix it ?

the battery has nothing to do with it. the display connector gets loose and does this all the time. Fortunately it never happened to me but i've seen more than 10 people with this problem
here's a couple pics for ya, the best solution is to take it apart and secure it but if you never did it then just push upon the screen, where my finger is pointing, about half or 1 cm from the side
