Bricked Magic 32A - need help what picture means - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi all,
I managed to brick my device during radio upgrade (check my last post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632869&page=2) so now my magic is showing some picture after powering on which i do not understand what it means - after few seconds this picture blacks out and that's it (display is lit but it is black).
Fastboot, recovery and goldcard process are not available.
Help is appreciated, and also suggestions to revive it as well.
P.S. I tried to give it to the service, they said "Tampered boot" and returned the unit back to me as is so I am on my own here :-(

over 100 reads and no answers? C'mon people, I am sure that there has got to be someone who knows what this picture means

The picture is a system screen. It's in the background while updating roms and what not. What version of android are you running and can you get into any boot screens ie. powering on using back and home at the same time?

To be quite honest I do not know which version of android was on before - i just know that it happened during uploading radio 6.35.08.29.
Back + Home + Power on shows same picture.
If I put same radio as update.zip on the SD card would it have any sense??

Well it's been a while for me, but it seems like that pic is from the original recovery, you require amon's recovery.
Have you gone through the steps from Cursordroid, upgrading/downgrading SPL and Radio? Follow his procedure, grab all the correct files and use Fastboot.

Can't use fastboot because i cannot bypass this part with boot picture :-(
I also noticed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632102 - exactly happened to me, semms like this radio version 6.35.08.29 when uploading from SD card is bricking a phone sometimes - BEWARE !!!
Please explain how to do recovery from cursordroid - have in mind that I only have SD card, I cannot reach fastboot, recovery or anything... If it can be done by putting some files to sdcard please describe it and if successfull i am buying beer... Hell, if it works i might introduce you to my younger sister ;-)

As you now have a 6.35* radio, can you do this?
Code:
adb shell
flash_image hboot hboot-1.76.2007.img

A few days ago my 32a did the same thing. I tried to use fastboot and didm't work. I had 6.35 radio and I had updated it like it said in the instructions.. I took the batery off several times, and it booted properly.. Try to do that.. Sorry for my english..

Sorry for my bad english ,
It's happen to me too. Yesterday I had my friend’s htc magic . He gave me that because he said that it was briked. When I press back+power or voldown+power or home+power , the result is same like picture in first post.
no adb and fastboot worked . How about you ? Is your phone normal again ?
thanks before .

Hi, no unfortunatelly my phone is still bricked - i removed baterry at least hundred times but no change... :-(

I think your phone is 99% bricked. Press hang + back, if you can entry hboot mode. Then try the attachment files.
Please be sure your phone is rooted and not perfect SPL.
GOOD LUCK!

hm.....that pic was displayed after I upgraded Radio, too. but then it was back to recovery mode, and I reboot & my phone work normaly w radio updated... So I think it's not danger pic :-?

once youre in that recovery mode, if you hit the home + back again anything happen?
i know if i get that screen on the Dream, I hit home +back again it changes my screen with options.. On your phone it may be vol dn + home try it out, mine gives me the option to flash update.zip from my SD card again.

Unfortunatelly I cannot get to hboot (home + red button), nor fastboot (back + red button) nor even volume DN + redbutton...
Looks like it is bricked 100%.
So guys, be carefull when upgrading radio 6.35.08.29 :-(

Read carefully and follow the instruction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
then i don't think there is to much to worry about!
For me it sounds like you updated the radio and restarted the mobile before updating the SPL. OR you forgot to check the m5dsum of the radio and flashed a broken radio file to your mobile.
It's IMPORTANT that you guys remember to check md5sum of the files before flashing em cause a broken radio/spl file can brick the phone!

same pictrue on my magic
My magic have same picture. I try to study Android for help it.

I see more and more threads like this and no movement in direction which could unbrick the phone without changing the motherboard...

Seems like I'm in the same situation as the OP. Got the same picture and can't do anything about it.

Probs with getting into recovery menu

Hey XDA
Im having a little problem with my Magic.
I would like to flash a new ROM, but i cant get into the recovery menu.
Here is what i do:
I have installed the latest version of SDK on my computer.
I then connect my Magic with the cable, and when Vista comes up with the note saying that want to install the software i tell it to use the drivers that are in the SDK/usb_driver/x86 folder.
I then turn off the phone, and press and hold back button + power button until the phone shows the "3 androids on skateboard" menu.
Then on my computer in the cmd prompt i write: fastboot boot recovery.img, and the the cmd prompt says: <waiting for device> and the nothing else happens, the recovery image dosn't show up on the phone either.
I have checked with adb devices that my phone is connected.
Are there anyone that can help me with this problem because its beginning to annoy me alot, i would like to root my phone and flash another ROM.
So any help would be much appreciated.

Just to check, you made sure you have a spl that's rootable?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019
And fallowed this before fastboot.
First, setting up your PC (I'm going to assume you're using windows for this) to work with Android in a debugging enviroment.
1. Get the latest Android SDK from here (http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r2/index.html) and unzip it into a convienent directory (most people use C:\Android\, so I suggest you do the same). The result should be something along the lines of C:\Android\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\.
2. Set up your phone to work with debugging drivers. The method of doing so can be found here (http://developer.android.com/guide/...ing/device.html) in the "Setting up a Device for Development" section, steps 2 and 3. To test that it works properly, open up a command prompt and navigate to the tools directory (C:\Android\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\tools). Type into the prompt:
Code:
adb devices
If it returns your device and serial number, then you're all set.
3. Lastly, grab fastboot.exe from here (http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html) and place it in the tools directory of the sdk.
Next up, rooting.

Thx for the answer, but there is a problem with one of the links you posted, the last one of them (http://developer.android.com/guide/...ing/device.html). it dosn't work.
But you also write something about the SPL, i dont know if i have the right SPL, how can I see if its the right one i have? I've tried reading the link about the SPL, but my problem is that i cant even get into the recovery menu, so i cant flash a new SPL either, or am i wrong?
Please help me
Per
To check your SPL just boot up fastboot (back + power) then just look at the top and see what it says. Then check on the first link I posted and see if your SPL is rootable or not.
Don't know why the last link didn't post proper Here it is.

I have just got my phone back from the repair shop because the camera restarted the phone everytime i tried to use it. Before i sent it to repair i had no problem rooting it or getting in the recovery menu.
But can you tell what the problem is? is it because the recovery image dosn't work with my SPl and the recovery image guys need to "crack" my SPL first or what?

and second of if it is could you post a link to that aswel and maybe a guide on how to flash spl's (like can i put both the spl and the rom on the flash drive at the same time and save the whole proces of takin the sd out of the phone to transfere files to it?)
thanks already NoaT
If you need root then you NEED the SPL. All links are provided in my last post. Follow the instructions for the 32A device
Yes you can put both the SPL and ROM on the same card at the same time, make sure you label them differently like update1 for your SPL first and update2 for the ROM. Use choose update option in recovery in the menu list in order to see both

ALright, before anything else, yes I did my research (going for 6 hours now). After managing to root my HTC magic (32 BNTT DOCOMO with perfect SPL 00006, donut) to Amon Ra's 2010 (S-H), I tried to downgrade my donut to cupcake. I've already flash my radio from 32A to 32B radio as recommended at Amon Ra's site. However when I was in the process of downgrading (I've downloaded the image from the HTC website (cupcake), all the checklist checked good with the exception of the SPL. CHecklist requires the Hboot for 2005 not 2010. In order to comply with the chechlist my d*mb ass just decided to flash the hboot(2005) and rebooted my phone w/out realizing the consequence.... So now my phone is stuck at boot logo for almost 3 hours with no fastboot access. Any takers???....

Please i am realy clueless now on what to do thanx for the help so far.
Okay, now you should have the right SPL and Radio. Start your phone in Recovery and connect it to your computer. Choose USB-MS Toggle and your phone's SD card will show up in My Computer. Copy the following files to the root of your SD card:
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/get/dream_sapphire/cm_dream_sapphire_full-285.zip
http://briancrook.ca/android/cm-ports/bc-6.1.0-ebi1-signed.zip
http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
and safely remove the card using. Press Home on the phone to go out of the MS (Mass Storage) mode and then go to Flash zip from SD card. Flash them in the same order that I gave you above. When it's done, choose Reboot and it should boot up into a fully-working nightly build of CyanogenMOD.

All 1.33.20xx where xx can be 04,05,09 or 10 do work for that radio. So you are not right on the one. The problem is simple, either he/she does not give enough time for the "new" rom to load all the way ( which is 7-15 mins) or he/she did not do a wipe before running the rom.
Do this and it WILL work:
Download my fastboot commander from my signature, magic version.
Boot into fastboot and start the tool.
Go to "Misc" tab. Select all partitions (in the RED box) and click "erase chosen partitions".
Go to "Magic 32A" tab and click on "flash new".
When done, reboot into custom recovery (hold home + power together for 5 sec and let go).
Use the trackball to navigate.
Use the "usb-ms toggle" and copy this file inside the sdcard.
Press home on the phone to return to menu and then select "Flash zip from sdcard".
Now select the file from above.
When done choose to reboot into system, and ENJOY :0)
NB: it will take like 10-15 min before the system starts up.
GOOD LUCK.

Oops. Could have sworn .2005 only works properly with the 32B radio. My bad. Oh, well, he has 2010, which should be fine for all old-radio ROMs.
@Reaper21 To get you a bit more confused: 32A Magics (like the one you have) can run two different radio/spl combinations. One is the one you have (SPL 1.33.xxxx + Radio 3.22.xx.xx) - called "old radio" - and the second (SPL 1.76.xxxx + Radio 6.35.xx.xx) is the one you need to run most SenseUI ROMs (but others too - you'll spot them because the developers mention they are for the "new radio" or "6.35").
If you want a clean Android experience, closer to the default user interface, you can run CyanogenMOD and ROMs based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project) - most of them need the old radio. These have the advantage of always using the latest version of Android available.
If you want the fancier - but sometimes slower - SenseUI you can use the RCMagic (the one mumilover recommended), CleanMagic and others. The user interface is a lot friendlier, but you have to make do with Android 2.1 (instead of the latest official version - 2.2.1, with 2.3 coming up). This won't normally be a problem. I, for one, prefer SenseUI and I'm guessing mumi does too
Use mumilover's commander to switch between new and old. It should be safe, as long as your phone's battery is charged and you don't unplug the cable or anything
Let us know how it works out!
Ok guys internet was off for a while im having a look and downloading the files now. I realy hope it works. will keep you posted, and thanx for the replies so far
Dude thank you you are the best its working again booting into the mod and working fine accept the reason i Wanted to do the software is that for some reason my Sim cant cant register on to the network. I Have tried all 4 networks in my country and none work it just said that unable to connect to the network at this time try again later.
Can this be a hardeware fault?
But thanx at least the device boots and i can use GPS again
Is the phone locked to the original carrier?
