invisibleSHIELD booth at mall? - Nexus One General

I recently noticed a new Zagg booth a the mall, and I wondered if anybody has used their services. Is it worth the $10 install fee? Do you trust your N1 in other people's hands? Should I just go for it?

Ask the guy how much experience he has and if you're comfortable with his knowledge, go for it. If I had a booth at my local mall, I'd definitely drop the $10 for install. One question though.. Zagg recommends 24 hours of wait time after installing the skin and using the phone. What do they do at the booth to speed that up?

Ya, see that's what I was thinking. I mean their installation is only about 30 min; they didn't say anything about waiting 24hrs (probably want to sell you first). I would do it regardless just because it's general knowledge around these parts. My main problem is letting go of my phone to random people with liquids..

That's a good point... but they should be bonded. Ask them what happens if the phone is damaged by their installation.

I think they charge too much for it, and its not as great as you think it is, did it my white mytouch 3g and the plastic starts to fade after a few weeks, and started peeling, they said full replacement lifetime, which I paid extra for, but I dont wanna put up with the hassle going back.
My suggestion, since N1 screens are actually scratch resistant, I tried scratching it with my keys Just buy a nice case for it Its alot cheaper, you can buy 2-3 of em and have different look on your phone every few days.
My 2 cent
EDIT: here are few sites you can check out, I bought my cases here

Invisble shield hard to apply, TIPS?

I had it on my herald and it went on easy and looked great. Putting it on the fuze its alot harder and it looks pretty bad, i got the full protection, but just screen coverage alone gave me alot of issues.
Any tips?
I followed the instructions carefully
Did you watch their youtube videos? They have them on their website. I have a feeling (waiting for mine to arrive) that this will not work out for full protection. I should have watched the videos earlier.
You have to seriously molest the shield to make it attach to the corners. There is a penalty for spending too much time or not enough time on molding it. There is also a penalty for finger oils, too much liquid, not enough liquid, blah blah blah. This is no Shamwow!
I will try to record me putting it together on mine for the first time so we can share in the fun.
Their videos are like step 1...step 2...step 154,987...hahaha
I love knowing that we are about to spray a plastic product with a bunch of liquid and then adhere it mere millimeters away from the warranty voiding pink water sensitive tabs.
Man, Im a negative SOB on something I have never tried. Sorry Zagg I will correct myself if needed.
Perhaps I should have gone with one of the brands I used for my 8125 or my x61tablet.
Hi:
Can someone who has applied an Invisible Shield to a Touch Pro/Fuze, please post a good quality, up close picture of how it looks after installation? I have looked at their site, but all the pics as fairly small.
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

You should all return your InvisibleShield and buy a real full body kit with BodyGuardz.
Way better then the crap you get from Zagg and BodyGuardz give you 2 full kits.

Umm, but what about the PTT button? Doesn't look like there's an opening for it.

According to InvisibleShield there doesn't have one either. Just had a buddy of mine order one from them. All they have right now is the TouchPro. I guess just wait it out until they have with the PTT already cut out. I am going to modify mine when I get it. I'm not that picky about it. Just trying to save people the trouble of ordering from Zagg. Probably the worse customer service I had ever experienced.
I just ordered a full body kit from ghost armor, it should be here in a few days. Any one ever used it? I assume they are all about the same as far as installation. I have just the screen protection from body gaurdz right now, it has a lot of drag on the screen (stylus doesn't slide very well)
Contacted Zagg they approved my return. Im assuming the guardz is the same type of material as Zagg uses? Reason being, on the touch screen it provides a much better feel that other screen protectors.
Cant really explain it buy it sort of gives you a light grip its an amazing feel compared to a bare screen or a normal screen protector in general

To be fair, I have used InvisibleShield's on my Tilt, MDA, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP and those things are indestructible! After 1-3 years, they are all still going strong.

I agree.
...boxwave
I'm curious to see how well the invisibleshield went on the back of the fuze. I was thinking of getting it, but just for the back. I use on all of my devices with screens the boxwave anti-glare. Some ppl argue that it dims the screen, makes it look less sharp, and I disagree. They make all my devices from my Palm Lifedrive down to my Sony PSP usable outside, and that's a biggy for me. So the first thing I'm doing when I open my fuze box is going to be taking the already unwrapped boxwave and putting it on, before I even turn on the device.
But the back worries me, it seems like a scratch magnet, and I want to get that protected too. Anyone want to post pics from their installs? How hard was it with all those facets?

Well they might be strong but there customer service is compared that of Raiders offensive production this season. Abysmal.
I have never in my life been so admiment about asking for a return. I have dealt with mobile providers customer services, which by industry standards is always pretty bad, but Zagg has reached a new low.
I never said they had a horrible product by any means, but there Customer service was enough to make me post, not only this post but numerous others about the company. Whoever is running the company needs to make a serious adjustment on the way they handle customers. I ordered a InvisibleShield or I should deem it "The Shield that never came to be" on Saturday the 15th. The informed that the Shield would be shipped in 3-5 business days. Never heard a response after 5 business days. When I e-mailed the company asking them about it. Nothing. No response for 2 days. When I asked the "Customer Service Represenative" about where the order was all the could tell me was that it was processing.
When I called for further clarification all I could get was the same answer and the lady on the phone told me "I have no idea why it hasn't shipped yet" When I told her my complaints about the company all she said in response was, "I'm sorry to heard that." Not, how can I make this better for you. Or I will check on your order right now and make sure that it's shipped out today. I immediately there after cancelled my order and sent my money else where. Of course I have to wait 3 - 5 business days for my money to be returned to my bank account. Funny that it took less then 12 hours for them to take the money but takes 3 - 5 business days for the money to be put bank into my account. Funny how that works.
If you are happy with InvisibleShield, then so be it. I just wanted other people on XDA to know about the horrible customer service that I experienced.
A side note. Another fellow XDA member purchased a invisbleshield the day after I ordered mine. He received his order last Wednesday. How does somebody who ordered the same exact product in the same state one day after me get the product before me. What's funny about though is that he received a invisibleshield for another phone not the Fuze.
Once again another stellar example of the applitude of people running Zagg.

Best buy insurance.

It has been about 20 days. Has anyone got an opinion on whether I should go back and add the insurance for 100? I am in Canada, so it isn't a quick trip.
I'm actually seeing some hard spots that look like dirt on the screen but I suspect the are the coating wearing off.
Seems this is fixed in newer versions of the phone.
Any thoughts on extended warranty and/or the screen?

I dont recommended the Best Buy insurance, maybe its just but ive had nightmares when it comes to filing a warranty claim with them, They just try and give you the run around
How much is the Best Buy insurance? They didn't offer it to me, and I probably would have said no, but I see people say $99/$100 even though checking the Best Buy website just now shows it at $169 for 2 years. That's an awful lot for a insurance that doesn't cover loss/theft.

It's legit. They reimubursed me full retail value for a water damaged iphone. I could tell they didnt want to and tried to be shady about it but at the time the way their contract was worded they had no choice.
I didnt take it personally because I only paid like $50 for the contract and for them to pay $600 out on a device that cost me $200 out of pocket surely annoyed them.
Well when I looked at it, the only difference between the two plans is that the BB plan doesn't specifically state they insure full immersion in liquid where Square Trade does. Drop your Nexus in the ocean then your effed on the BB plan, but not on Square's.
As far as the pricing, it is $9.99 a month and you can only add it within the first 30 days (same as SquareTrade). So the Best Buy model is basically double, however you do have the flexibility to stop paying BB if for instance you buy another phone at any time where as if you use SquareTrade you've already paid for all of your two years regardless of how long you own or wish to protect that specific phone.
I chose the Best Buy Black Tie simply based upon convenience of getting a new phone quicker, though I'm not certain how that works, it just appears to me that it would/could be same day?
Also apparently you can do the Black Tie protection online as well so that's a possibility for the OP specifically.

So they gave you a really hard time? My phone isnt past its 30 days but I have a dim back button and compared to my best friends wife's phone, the screen is really gray and banded. Also the platinum case scratched it and either way I want to replace it. I have the black tie protection and paid close to six hundred for the phone and 35 for the scratchy case and another 30 for the invisible shield. It sucks that I want to repalce the phone yet again but for the 700 I've shelled out on this thing, it should at least be perfect from the start.

The other stuff, yeah, exchange the phone for a bad backlit button or wonky display, but I don't get the platinum case thing. That's your fault, or the case maker's, not Samsung's.
You purchased a 3rd party case which was poorly designed and it damaged your phone's back and think that Samsung/Best Buy are to blame and should have to replace your phone for it?
Isn't that a bit like saying that if you bought a Ford, then slapped on an aftermarket strap-on luggage rack or bike carrier that scratched the paint that Ford should have to let you exchange the car? An extreme example, but the same concept.
Sounds kind of outrageous, doesn't it?
Unless of course scratches on the battery plate are covered as a repairable item under your black tie warranty, which I doubt.
The case has scratched the bezel so that's not easily repaired I wouldn't think.
Also, I agree its not Sammy's fault for the scratches but the other stuff yes. Also, the phone is sold exclusively by best buy and the case is best buys line of cases, the only one out until now. I wouldn't feel bad at all using the all inclusive (minus loss or theft) black tie thing that I pay for. If they won't let you even use it that's just free money for them and makes it a scam.

Yeah, if the extended warranty covers stuff like scratches, go for it. Those warranties are almost 100% profit for the seller.
OK, kudos to best buy. They have been awesome to me with the n's, especially with what so.e might think is paranoia. After the case scratches and banding I exchanged mybphone for another. They didn't hassle me at all and after everything I would surely buy from them again. They were great. Unfortunately even though best buy online said they were tmo vendor, they are not. The last phone they had didn't have the creased glass, so I took it. Seems like my last phone was a gem. This one seems more washed out but im tired of fighting. After all the wrangling. It seems there's no such thing as a perfect phone, at least after my g1. A lot of the problems can be blamed on the rush to get gingerbread out for this phone.

I went to exchange mine after seeing the crease in the glass isnt supposed to be there, of the 24 devices my local store had, every one had it.

Well I have to hand it to best buy mobile. Not to rag on the parent company but the mobile employees are a cut above normal best buy. Even the ones in the store are a separate entity like magnolia. Since my last post I have returned my phone two more times. The dim back button led to a new one with a dead pixel. The only problem I had was that they claimed that its one replacement per 30 day period. They still helped me out and got me a new one. They seem to genuinely care and gave excellent customer service, even with a picky person like myself.
Unfortunately this store had an entire batch of creased glass screens. I took one anyway as I had to drive a long way to find one that activated tmo. I did this because the other ones in the area were the ones with min availability. They also told me that the ones they had at the place I got mine were their second batch of phones which made me believe they would be less problematic. This one seems OK but the keyboard is acting strange. Its been less than 24hours since I put on my ghost armor so hopefully the sensitivity is just temporarily affected. My last one had the zagg one which was much thicker and had no sensitivity problems so I'm optimistic that this one will clear up.
I also learned that you need to ensure that the place you do an exchange with needs to correctly transfer your black tie protection if you do an in store 30 day exchange. I learned mine was still pegged to my very first one and they had to call up geek squad and fix the problem so that if I did use the warranty that I could actually make a claim.
Has anyone else been told that you can only do one exchange?

Don't use best buy's geeksquad black tie protection if you need a battery replaced

Alright well I was happy to see that my insurance plan (I got it from my dad) included the free battery replacement and since mine gets terrible drain from my phone I figured alright cool no problem, I will just goto bestbuy today and go get my replacement, WRONG! Turns out, you wait 45 minutes in line just to be told "You need to call this number *writes it down* and then your battery should be at your house between 4-7 days. Are you kidding me? Why the hell can't you guys carry battery replacements and give me a battery when I need it? Also just a side note of bad luck: I called and their systems are down so they can't place my order today. All in all: best buy is overpriced garbage with an incompetant support team with a plan that makes less sense than baby talk.

As far as I know, Best Buy nor any other insurance offerings guarantee that they will just trade you a new battery immediately in-store.
Giving you a number and mailing you a new battery after calling them sounds like SOP.

That doesn't make any sense.
The best busy insurance is useless.
You're better off using the warranty because either way you're going to be without a phone for multiple weeks.
Meh BBY rarely carries batteries for devices in store... they might have the extended capacity ones but I have never seen them carry OEM batteries so yeah... this sounds pretty standard
It's the fact that I was annoyed at the situation that I have to call the number myself and all that instead of just going to sprint to replace my battery. It's annoying and I was already having a bad day. I had to vent. :3

I probably would have gotten on my phone and called my local best but store and asked how the replacement battery program worked before driving out there and waiting 45 minutes in line. If I am going somewhere to purchase anything that could be out of stock (expecially electronics), I will always call and see if they have it in stock. Going to a store and expecting for them to have something that you want/need without checking first is not their fault.

I was referring to warranty concerns, not physical damage concerns.
That's what TEP is for.
Battery replaced on site, phone replaced within a day if service cannot be performed, deductible only if you damage the phone.
A lot better than paying $10 a month and having to wait a week [or up to three] to have a phone. [Which is just what the HTC warranty is like]

Not just this black tie insurance, but everything you sign up for in general; You should know what services you are signing up & paying for. Period. There should never be any surprises. *Even if* you "assume" that you'll be able to get something fixed/replaced/etc, it seems like common sense to call in before hand to make sure, rather than wast an hour of your time.
Honestly you could have stopped at "Don't use Best Buys Geek Squad"
The in house people are just plain dumb. Not naive, not just under-trained, not just lacking in the skill set to do the job but actual dumb.
I say this with every ounce of honesty I can in hopes that you guys for once believe something on the internet posted by someone you don't know.......
I actually got into an extended conversation with a person about a new computer and as soon as I saw he was just reading the description card I asked about the flux capacitor issues. He proceeded to ask his superior about it because he "wanted to be honest and find my answer instead of making up stuff". His superior proceeded to LOOK IT UP!!! until a listening customer popped in with "you only have issues if you have a hard drive that spins faster than 88mph". We laughed, they picked up on it, I left.
The GS employees are dumb. I don't use the above story as my only basis, that's an extreme example. The phone people are just reading a prompt, the inhouse people are just trained to go to the computer and "look it up". They have no real working knowledge of anything they are selling.

The in house people are just plain dumb. Not naive, not just under-trained, not just lacking in the skill set to do the job but actual dumb.
I say this with every ounce of honesty I can in hopes that you guys for once believe something on the internet posted by someone you don't know.......

The sad thing is, I wanted to work with geeksquad last year but then I found out the severe lack of knowledge in that group in general and I was appaled I have an extensive knowledge of windows and linux as well as the ability to remove just about every peice of malware by hand and I hate people that just scan with different tools that will eventually pick up something. Guess what best buy does to remove malware? Throw scans at it. I would much rather do all of it by hand so I figured I can do freelance virus removal for the time being and it has worked out wonderfully. I'm gonna try to convince my dad to just get me the sprint TEP plan and go from there. Atleast then I can find someone intelligent to fix my issues that I can't fix myself.

Meh BBY rarely carries batteries for devices in store... they might have the extended capacity ones but I have never seen them carry OEM batteries so yeah... this sounds pretty standard

yeah, don't think I ever see batteries at Best Buy....you gotta read the small print when buying all that extra stuff from stores....especially when it involves them replacing something for free....

Advice For Checking For Faults Before Buying

Hey guys. I know this may be put in another thread but I need as much advice ASAP, so more people that see this the better.
I want to buy the GS3 tomorrow. The thing is, where I live, its going for $1,100 and thats on special. Thats a crapload of cash, so I need to be certain I dont get stuck with a crappy phone.
I currently have the original Galaxy S, and that had a useless gps which gave me endless headaches. Don't want to get stuck with another phone with such a major defect.
Now I have been following this forum but I just wanted to know, besides the screen issues, is there anything to watch out for in terms of common manufacturing defects.
Also, what advice can be given on trying to detect screen issues whilst still in the store?
Thanks
Don't do it for that much!!! Where do you stay? Have you asked someone to purchase it for you, then send it to you?

You're in California in the US. You're getting ripped off at $1,100. Buy it online for a much lower cost. Don't throw away money like that. Jeez...

I live in Zambia. Its a small country in Africa. The original GS1 sells for $600, the GS2 for $850 and the GS3 is $1,100. This is from a Samsung store. They just started selling the GS3 a few days ago. Actually, I am surprised that it was not more expenseve. Another phone store was selling them for $1,400.
I am really tired of my current phone. It lags too much and no gps. I think its done its time. Flashing roms stopped being too effective a while ago.
If I buy online, there is a chance that there will be a defect and it would be a pain in the backside to try to return it. Shipping itself would cost a bomb, not to mention taxes or the fact that the phone may not reach me at all.
I am still debating whether to get the phone or not, but I nearly bought it today itself, but restrained myself and came straight here to see if I can make sure I dont get a defective unit

Dude, preaching to the choir. My hat's off to you, lol. Really though, just get as hands-on with the phone in store as possible to make sure you don't see any pixel issues. In store there isn't a whole lot you can do for testing as people generally find issues over the course of a few days or longer. That said, can you not buy the phone on amazon for cheaper than $1,100?

I could get it from Amazon, but with shipping, taxes, and duty here in zambia, it will still come pretty high. Still cheaper that $1,100, but if it is defective, I have to ship it back and hope the next one they send me is good. If not, then this will turn out to be an even bigger disaster than spending over a grand on a phone.
Also, I have this fear that the phone will never reach me.

Amazon customer service has never let me down. That's all I can say there. Also, I got mine from Amazon and it's in perfect condition. Can you select a UPS shipping option? Because if you can then you'll get your phone. If it's shipped UPS they'll have the tracking number to ensure it got to you.

Dropped phone-Tale of woe.

I was the proud owner of a shiny brand-new Galaxy S3 as of 7 p.m. July 14. On my way to the mall just before 3 p.m. the next day to purchase a cover, it slipped out of my hand and hit the pavement. Damage to screen and bezel from a fall of only 2 1/2 feet. The back cover even popped off! I had watched the drop tests for this phone and knew that with this one there was no way I'd think about not getting a protective cover. It is definitely not as tough as the other previous Galaxy S models. But I never would have expected so much damage from such a short fall. Anyways, it is going to cost me 130.00 for the deductible through the insurance claim, plus the aggravation that is already starting. It was supposed to be easy-peasy. Instead of helping me in store (they kept saying they couldn't do that-access to my account purchases at their fingertips plus me there in person with ID!), I have to print out an affidavit along with proof of ID. I totally understand that, but why not just help me in store! You guessed it, I don't have my own printer (I've been meaning to rectify this) although I do have a scanner. Long story short, lack of a scanner means I lose 24 hours-can't do this until tomorrow. Then barring any further BS from T-Mob or Asurion, I'm told I get a new phone the next day. Too bad I'll be out of town by then, but, oh, well. That's what I get for not having a printer. Now for the real rant! Gorilla glass my a$$! If Samsung is going to make a phone with this slick plastic back and with a plastic bezel, they should just ship it with some cheap plastic protective cover so that you can make it out of the store and have time to shop for a cover to your own liking! Don't get me wrong, I love my new phone, however I'll really consider the build quality of the next phone I buy. I will especially pay attention to slick edges and plastic bezels.

This was after completing the first step of the onling claims process. Instead of an Asurion rep, the next page directed me to call T-Mobile customer care! Again, could have just done that at the store an hour earlier! Yeah, I know, they aren't really there to help, lol!

Dang. The glass does feel INCREDIBLY thin compared my old Vibrant. I too gotta get a case. That bezel protection was the shizz.
Sucks man
I too have seen all the drop tests and this phone, whether it be the size of the screen or the plastic casing, doesn't hold up when dropped. I get my phone tomorrow but ordered a case last week with a lip so I'd have protection on day one

Yeah I know. But I guess I didn't really want to say thin, but moreso flimsier.

Looks like one of the nice mods moved the thread.
But seriously.. you said it yourself.. You knew the SGS III was eaiser to break then your grandma's fancy china.. And you knew you should have had a case.. why didn't you?
I have had mine cased in a bulky 2 layerd cheap ebay case while I wait for a kraken or the defender to come out.
Anyone who does not case their SGS III is living life on the edge.

The guy at Car Toys brought out the ugliest case I'd ever seen, so I refused it. Went out the next day at my earliest convenience to buy a decent case. One block from home, disaster struck! Would have been cheaper to buy that case and throw it away the next day. It is costing me $130.00 in deductible fees for the replacement. Now I've read that some guy dropped his while in a case and it still broke.
EDIT: Thank you moderator, I'm so sorry for my mistake!

Simple solution: don't drop your phone. I didn't drop my HD2 in the whole year I had it.
I have to tell customers the same thing, we have nothing to do with Asurion, you can use my phone but I cant file anything for you unfortunately.
The only reason you have to jump through so many hoops with Asurion is because since you just got it, it hasnt registered on your account, so there is really not way for them to know if you actually own the phone unless you provide that affidavit and proof or purchase.............I broke my S3 after 2 days and even though i work for T-Mo and still had to go through the same thing

That's what I wanted from them, to use their phone. Also would've saved me time if I could have printed that form right in the store. I had everything I needed with me at the store: receipt, box with IMEI, my ID. I wasn't asking them to do it for me, just to call from there and confirm from their records that I purchased the phone. Anyway, a couple of calls today to Asurion got them to approve my claim a little faster, but not in time for the replacement to arrive before i leave for Seattle. So it's being shipped to where I will be there.
Mine broke within 6 hours of having it. I got it, late at night, fell asleep while texting, and when i woke up it was on the floor and the screen was cracked to hell. I silently weeped. I was suppose to get a case the next day.

We have no way of confiming your purchase unfortunately, they only accept a copy of the reciept or scan of the box
Iunno but to me, when I see the drop tests of the s3 90% of the time the drops are done by women. And it seems like 90% of the people who have been dropping their phones have been men c.c....men are generally stronger and taller than women so........iunno just my 2 cents
