My issues with 1.66 (stock) - HD2 General

Hi all,
Last night I flashed to the official Vodafone 1.66 ROM. Here's a few problems I've noticed:
1. I have no volume icon on the top bar, just a black gap where it should be???
2. When texting I'm getting loads of key presses being registered that I'm not actually doing.
3. In contacts, the facebook intergration isn't as good as with 1.43. For example it refuses to download my profile picture, I appear as a grey/white head in all my text threads
4. Mt text alert tone is cutting off mid flow, or just going really jerky
Any solutions to these issues? Or can anyone recommend a cooked ROM that is fairly close to the stock ROM, but with the imperfections ironed out?

Hmmm, sorry can't help with your question, but I'ver been trying hard to pretend that my HD2 that was working ok on 1.43 is now not playing up on 1.66 (but it is).
I too have the Facebook issue. Initially, it picked up a facebook profile pic for a mate no problem but then it kept dropping it. Tonight it took ages to force it to pick it up again. And Opera seems much slower, Email updates seem slower and less reliable. I'm hoping it's just teething troubles and that once I've finished the reg tweaks I used before it'll settle down. Ho hum...

Buggy text messaging - can owners of a Niki please help?

Hi, I have noticed a problem and I was wondering if others could check if their phones do it or if I need a replacement.
When texting on the hardware keypad the response is rather slow, but more importantly it gets the keypresses out of order! Specifically, the order that I pressed the space key (0). If I text slowly this is not an issue, but if I blast away then I can consistently observe it make the same mistake. Here is my test:
In XT9 mode, start a new text message and type 'it going' really fast. This key sequence is 48046464
If I am texting fast, my Touch Dual will consistently enter 'hug mini', which is 48406464
Note that the space is one place too late.
This happens all the time with any other word combinations, and is worse when the device is stressed. I have no other running programs, I have not flashed from the stock Orange ROM, I have tried a hard reset and I AM typing correctly
Oh, a point of interest, if I train myself to type double spaces then it works, and only single spaces are written! Of course if I slow down though I see double spaces.
So, anyone else (preferably with the Orange ROM but all answers appreciated) have this problem?
I have exactly same problem. It is very, very annoying..
I don't have the Orange rom, I have original swedish rom, but I have the same problem. the most annoying thing is that I can't type as fast as a can, because of the delay.
i just tried this, no problem here. also, the space on mine is the # key.
im using toms rom also.
i typed it out really fast. there was a slight delay till the words showed up but it showed up as what it was supposed to.
have u tried the HTC Update?
There's been notices that that problem was fixed (or at least didn't happened so frequently)
I tried downloading it from HTC e-Club, but no difference.
The hotfix didn't help me, but I have made progress to solving this problem. It seems that the stock Orange ROM is just rubbish, I reflashed with a custom WM 6.1 ROM and it is much better. If I stress the device by doing lots of things at the same time then I can still make the error appear, but texting is actually bearable now when playing mp3s.
It's a shame I haven't uncovered the root cause of the problem. I refuse to believe it is in the Windows Mobile core so it must be something HTC have done to it. Do they have a different SMS composer or something?

X1 locks when in....

Ok so i got the newest stock rom for sweden... i havent modded that much but 1 common problem i keep getting is that when i got the sms application running and press the panels button the device hangs directly.... this is kind of annoying as i use the texting alot..
is this a common bug?
Nope
I just tried it a couple of times on my Xperia GENERIC UK R2A_10 with a whole host of buggy as hell today plugins running and it still switched just fine and no slower than ever.
Maybe it's been a slight translation error in your Swedish ROM that causes the problem.
Does it reproduce every time, and at what point in the SMS app exactly does it happen?

The new ROM

I am about to download and install the new .48 ROM, but what excatly did they fix?
Are people sending and recieving all sms'es and calls now?
Are the buggy volume control fixed?
What about the big waiting time when launching the messenger app with people who have a long sms-history?
As far as i am aware absolutely no issues whatsoever have been "fixed".
This "new" ROM is simply the latest version being shipped in worldwide devices.
The weekly calendar issue seems to be fixed.

I don't know what has been fixed and I can't comment on the problems you listed since I've never experienced them but I can tell you what works better for me:
1) the keyboard is much more accurate. I was reasonably happy with the keyboard on the last ROM but this one is much easier to use.
2) the proximity sensor now works every time I make or receive a call. This was a bit hit or miss for me with the last ROM and would fail more often than it worked.
3) Battery life seems much better. Again, I was pretty happy with this on the last ROM but it just seems to last a lot longer now. I had network issues today (nothing to do with the phone, it must have been a problem with 3 in London today because my 3G dongle was down as well) and was expecting my battery to die relatively quickly. However, despite this and the fact that I was playing with the phone more today (because of the new ROM) my battery is holding about 20% more than I would expect it to hold at this point in the day. I haven't bothered with the patch to turn off the data connection either so my phone should be doing more now.
I can't comment on much more. I experienced the new bug with the inbox and SenseUI but that was dealt with by locking the phone. I also had some trouble connecting to my Exchange server but that was dealt with with a couple of soft resets. Everything is generally going quite well.

I have installed the new 1.48 rom today.
and I don't think they fixed anything. I still got a red blob on my pictures. And I still wait up to 45 seconds for replying sms. When the sms-history is long.!!!
I've installed it today as well (dutch version). A pity that you 've to reinstall all apps. No prob for me, as I'm still try to explore the phone.
Anyway connecting, installing etc everything was flawless, even the link with Exchange.
hmm,.. well,.. no issues so far
I've flashed the .48 over my belgian HD2 yesterday using the goldcard approach, I've got to say that I've yet to see any real improvement or bugfixes,...
The lockscreen acted up for a while but then mended itself automagicly and has been a good boy since.
Opera seems more responsive but that could very well be just me fooling myself.
Same goes for the keyboard, I caught myself noting 'hey, this seems a bit more sturdy than before'. This can all be attributed to perception, though
It works and the itch to be up to date has been scratched.. all in all I'd recommend it.
where do i get this rom, offical site please
Is this an official ROM?
Where can this be downloaded? How do you flash it?
Get the ROM from links in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592954
Just installed it and personally think the touch screen is more accurate

Think or know, is it night & day better mate?
Hi
Can anyone tell me if they have kept all the software that was on 1.43, for example, ms office.
If someone can tell us what they have removed or added, that would be great.

I installed 1.48 last night and I think its night and day better than then old 1.43 rom.
Screen is less sensitive (which is good) because it makes the keyboard easier to use, less multiple key hits etc.. so you can actually type more accurately. I still get the odd moment where they keyboard appears to spaz out, but I think this is still down to accidentally breathing on the screen or looking at it in a funny way.. man that screen is so sensitive sometimes..
I also found that rotating and typing with both thumbs in landscape mode made for a very compelling typing experience because the keys are slightly larger and further apart which makes hitting multiple keys at the same time even harder to do.
Once you have used the device for a day or so (to build up its dictionary of words that you use alot) its becomes really very quick to rattle off very long texts.
Its still not quite perfect, but its a huge improvement over the previous rom.

The new stock ROM has a slightly different version, but I'm sure is very similar:
2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE
Radio ROM version appears to be the same
2.08.50.08_2

I'd be interested to see a dump of the actual final ROM, even if there are only minor changes, they could squeeze out a bit of performance somehow.
Is there already one posted somewhere?
I'll dump mine if I knew how . I'll read up.
its so buggy and laggy with only 3 apps running...

Yeah this is pretty bad-- I've had the phone for just two days now, but it's lagging all throughout, I can't run more than a couple of apps without major slowdowns, and even with no apps running and a fresh boot, it has issues.
It can't even play the Transformers movies that came with the phone without stuttering.
Earlier today, the volume rocker stopped working and somehow turned into a scroll wheel (it'd slowly move up and down in whatever was selected instead of adjusting volume).
The phone also has lots of issues where it won't come back after the screen is turned off (or will take 30 sec or more), and it seems sometimes the bottom buttons just don't work, or something freezes up. Then for a while I wasn't able to call anyone-- I could get into people's profiles in contacts, but tapping on the phone number would do nothing. It's also locked up on a few occasions while showing that services.exe or other processes crashed.
Also, not sure how related this is to the ROM, but I have voice quality issues-- people on the other end report hearing lots of background noise even in relatively quite environments, and to me they sound a bit muffled / put through a cheap speaker.
In any case, this is not a ROM anyone would voluntarily want to put on their phone.
Hi Does anybody know where the HTC HD2, TMO-US 1024 GB version "2.10.531.1" ROM is???
Will this ROM work on my T-Mobile HD2 from Germany with HSPL2 installed?
HD2 Freezing issues...

I am having the exact same issues as you with the phone freezing when locked down as well as unable to make calls from contact lists or even ending calls from the "end call" on screen button. By any chance did you find a fix to this? The new ROM did nothing for me.
actually t mobile usa should had sent you a new message a few days ago for the update. its confusing because its all the same version package, just fixed these issues. i hated the first update, and i started myself because my graphic's driver was laggy and the touch controls were not usable. I installed this new one, and its fine!! not a problem yet!!!

HD2 is driving me NUTS, can you help?

So, long story short, I had a Nexus One, which I loved EXCEPT for the fact that my coverage was horrible, half my text messages didn't send, the battery life sucked, and the screen was getting burn in and had weird color saturation.
So I got an HD2.
And, coverage is great, in fact it's the only phone on any carrier that I have ever seen maintain a 3G signal in my dads house which is like in the forest lol. No dropped calls or unsent texts. Love the screen, love the music player, love Sense UI, etc. BUT...
No matter what I do, I seem to have the same problems...
1. Applications not opening. This happens most frequently with Opera. I've tried the stock ROM, the new 2.13 stock ROM, and ChuckyRom. And while for a day or two there are no problems, after a little bit I just randomly get error messages opening Opera (and some other programs) saying there isn't enough memory or a file is missing. Sometimes if I close everything in the task manager it will open but sometimes not. It always works again after a reset. It's REALLY frustrating. I don't really want to do crazy stuff with the phone, I just want everything to work. So any ideas how to fix this?
2. HTC Messaging. After a couple days, when I have a few contacts with 100+ messages, there is this AWFUL delay before I can type a response. Same as above, I tried a few different ROMs and after a couple days it's the same thing.
I know these seem like little things, but when I want to go to the browser and literally 2/3 of the times it just won't open without a reset, or when I go to reply to a message and it won't let me type for 30 seconds, it's just really annoying, all the time. So any ideas to fix this, whether it be different ROMs, or registry changes, or anything, please let me know.
Ugh I can't wait til someone ports Android or WP7 to this fantastic hardware lol.
i had the same problem that you were having until i used a custom rom. i figured everyone that was having lag is when using the htc messaging so i found a rom without it. its a pretty basic rom without the htc sense ui on there and that solved my problems. you should just try out different roms to see which one works best for you
Try using kumars latest ROM 2.0 with htc messaging disabled. No lag at all.
