I have been searching for an answer to this for two weeks with no success. I apologize in advance if the question has already been answered… I couldn't find it.
On Sprint's Hero, when setting up a headset (in my case the car radio BT adapter) one can enable both Phone and Media. Supposedly, this should allow a user to listen to tunes/podcasts/Sprint Nav and be able to use the phone when needed through the BT. Unfortunately, it doesn't work this way.
If I'm listening to something on the phone and wish to place a call, I will enter the contact and start the call. The phone responds by pausing the audio program I'm listening to as it should, but I get NO AUDIO from the phone! Nothing! The call is placed and the recipient hears nothing also!
Now; If I'm listening to something and a call comes in, again, as would be expected, the audio program gets paused and the phone rings through the BT. Unfortunately, there is no auto-answer in Android 1.5 (grrr!), so I reach over and press the Answer button. Lo and behold, it answers! but over the phone's speaker and mike instead of the BT!
They refused to accept that it was a problem with the phone at Sprint. Is this fixable? Can I look forward to it working in Android 2.1? Is there anyone else experiencing this problem?
As far as I have read/heard its a known issue that I think one of the roms here may have corrected. I will look around and see if I can find the thread, its been more than a month since I read it. Maybe MoDaCo but again, I will have to track it down.
EDIT:
Personally I wouldn't look towards anything in android 2.1, sprints release could be as far as 6 months away.
I'm currently using MoDaCo's UNOFFICIAL v1.3 ROM. I've tried this with his 1.1 and UNOFFICIAL 1.2 as well. I've also tried Fresh's ROMs without success.

So maybe no one fixed lol
So I've searched using "keywords" and scoured through many similar posts on this issue within the forum and through Google with no luck, so I'm posting this request now.
Is there any way to prevent a new message/text notification sound from halting music playback?
I hook up my phone to the car to blast the music but when I get a text, it stops/halts/pauses the song, plays the notify sound, and then resumes playback.
I don't want to turn off the notifications all the way, I just want to have the notify sound play OVER or ON-TOP of the music playback
The phone is still running just the stock rom, but if you guys suggest an app or rooting, then I will do whatever it takes, thanks!
This is part of MOST phones. My phone does it, the G1 does it, my friends BB does it.
thanks fenixnr....so is there nothing that can be done to correct this on an Android device?
I know in the past I've had Windows Mobile devices with the same issue (Xperia X1) and some of the ROMs I flashed on it corrected the issue while others did not. My HD2 doesn't have this problem and it has a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack too.
Am I the only one who has noticed this
I was hoping someone else would have wanted the same thing resolved.

There is nothing to "resolve" as I am pretty sure that is by design how it should work. I cannot test this now, but try putting your phone into a silent mode when listening to your music... Of course, keep your media volume up for your music.
If memory serves me right I think that cm kanged expresso rom had the feature to play notification out of the speaker when headphones were plugged in. Cm6 might have that feature too. I'm not sure though.

So CyanogenMod-6 might have improved on this? [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755118&highlight=kanged]
Sounds exactly like what I was looking for and this is a Froyo build too? Thanks slinky, I'll give it a shot!

honestly if its only a problem when you plug your phone into the car, just put your phone on vibrate or turn the notification off.
Yeah this is honestly the one thing buggin' me right now.
I walk to work it's about a half hour walk to and from and I don't give a damn about my notifications during that time. Hah.
I have a problem with my phone when I hear songs with the loudspeaker or the application of multimedia the speaker did not work for me but when I plug the headphones All things work as usual
And conversation at the receiver does not work I can not hear the other person and the other person can not hear me but everything works good with the loudspeakerthe otherside hear me and I hear the other side and everything works as normal with headphones
And another problem that when I connect the headset songs begin to work alone and I opened the Google SPEAK
In short as I have noticed a problem when it comes to audio device I have no idea how it happened not touch anything any device settings
Please I need your help I tried everything i try to change the kernel i try to change the baseband i try to change roms
just everything i can think that can help And nothing helped
p.s: Sorry if I have mistakes in English
Same
I have this EXACT problem. I tried to flash a different rom, several different roms actually. It is the strangest thing. I didn't drop it or anything. The problem is that the phone constantly thinks that a headset is plugged in, even if one is not plugged in. You can use the app Soundabout, and disable headset detection as a workaround. I ordered a new headphone jack, thinking it must be hardware, and something broken in the jack. I replaced the headphone jack, and am still having the same problem.
It's crazy that this exact thing is happening to you too... makes me wonder... when did it start for you? What radio do you have? Have you used a slimport adapter at some point?
The only thing left I can think of is reflashing bootloader and radio. Going to try that now and report back.

Its start this week i have radio 54 but i try every radio and no i dont use this adapterand thanx for the app that you post but this is a Temporary solution
Yes, the app is a temp fix... and it gets annoying. I tried to flash bootloader and radios, and still no luck. I asked about slimport, because it is the only "new" thing I have done with my phone recently. I was on .54 radio too, but switched back to 48 or 44 (cant remember which it is at the moment, the american 4.2.2 radio)
can you verify that the app does allow your phone to work? It is very odd that we have the same pfroblem. Do you flash roms often? I do about once a week
i back to stock rom from miui rom in this week and then the problem start
it seems like mine broke after a rom flash as well. I was on june 10 build of PA, then went to june 14 build. clean flash back didnt fix though

i think this is a Hardware problem Because we flash roms and Nothing help
I am inclined to agree. I wanted to test all options first though. I called Google again last night, and the support guy said he has heard this a few times, and they always wind up replacing the phone.

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,

Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
So, i was having some issues with the earphone i had bought recently, but having a few problems with the same brand sometimes earlier (microsoft really put up a really interesting choice with the low price and really good bass and sound quality for its pricing, but damn, those things had caused me two replacements in earlier models) i was considering taking it to the warranty and getting a new one, fine.
Then i got the moto earphone (had never used it, was in that plastic thingy yet) to get me through the day and i put the ms one in the bag, but when i started walking, the same problems appeared. The volume would get lower, sound getting distorted, and the song started to cut to the point it would recognize as if the headphone has been unplugged and i have to start the music again. i'm no expert but i think we've got some issues here son
I went to master google in search for answers and i've found that people have been having these kinds of issues since the first generation moto g, some even got a replacement and the jack would still come faulty, there were a major "consent" that the fault was the pocket lint inside, and cleaning it would solve the problem, but my phone doesn't have even two goddamn weeks, it didn't even had time to get dirty. (and i tried it cleaning, only a lil hair came out) I am currently listening to music, and it's perfect, when the phone stays still. If i start moving it around or mess with the connector, the issues come back again.
Does someone had this problem here too? found some solution besides the pocket lint thing? i didn't found any post here on xda related to that, and i really don't wanna send it ro warranty 'cause i need it really bad for my work, and i know it's gonna take some time in there, the problem can even come back...
Please, show me a light.
I have a problem where moving the headphone jack a small amount would stop music playback its so annoying. I mostly use Bluetooth headphones though.

Moving it also distorts the sound to the point it stops. Normally this happens with detective earphones, but the jack is new to me.
I'm sure it's the jack, I just got new headphones too. What you can do is expand that contact strip in the jack inward, hence better contact? I haven't done this yet though

yea, it is the jack indeed... are you facing this problem too?
i tried pulling it out a bit, but no results. Some random "solutions in the internet tell to put something behing that first metal contact strip... it that so?
So I kinda solved the problem these days... I bought a tpu case, and it has stopped. I guess that the phone is too slim, and it keeps banging in the pocket, making the jack loose and stopping the song. Now the phone is kinda bulky, fits right in the pocket, I can even run with it and the sound is still perfect. Sad that I gotta use this case, makes the phone Hella ugly, but yeah, I solved the problem
If anyone is facing it, try this, might work for you too.
Fixed my problem
I'd just like to add that I also suffered from this same issue (to the letter, volume decrease, distortion and all). It happened once a few weeks in but now, a few months later, it was happening so often that I had to give up using headphones.
Well, here's the thing: I contact Motorola and they give me the old crap about rebooting in safe mode and testing, or doing a factory reset.
As I KNOW this is a hardware issue, I just go ahead and reinstall the factory image (I was previously rooted) planning to send it in for repair/replacement: low and behold: it's fixed. So installing the original firmware and going through the setup (but choosing not to reinstall all my apps -new device option) fixed the problem. I have no idea how this can be. Maybe an app made the phone react too much to slight disturbances in the connection? When I have time, I'll be restoring my backup to see if the problem comes back, and uninstall apps one by one (starting with the xposed modules and other root apps).
I've been using the headphones a lot in the past 5 days with absolutely no issues.
tl:dr OP's exact problem, what seemed like a hardware fault, was fixed by a factory reset.

Now that was unexpected lol. Anyways, thanks for the reply, i've seen much of this kinds of problems on the internet, but none of it came to a conclusion, the posts die after sometime. I hope someone finds the answer in your reply.
So, i bricked my phone sometime ago and installed the factory image. i've been using the tpu case since it came, as i stated before, it has solved my problems (i think mainly because the phone get bulkier, fits into the jeans pocket and stop moving, so the jack isn't affected by any kind of movement and it works perfectly), but after you said that i recalled, there was one day when i forgot the case at home, and unaware of that i went working with the headphone and it worked perfectly, i just noticed i had forgot the case in my way home. I'll do some further testing without the case, but your solution might just have hit the right spot.

Did you, by any chance, have GravityBox installed on your phone when it was playing up? Also/or, where you using an unmodified ROM, as that's what I'm using usually (deodexed but stock) I've just restored my backup (that's rooted and has a few xposed modules on) and sure enough first time I touch the jack with music playing, it plays up (this time it triggered the voice command, which it did do some times). So I think to start by disabling GravityBox as that modifies a lot of stuff... Reboot, and the damn thing seems to work perfectly, I'm tugging and pulling at the jack right now and it's working perfectly.
I find it a bit too much to believe, and I don't want to lose GravityBox as that's a big reason I root.
One explanation I can come up with is that Motorola saw there was a problem and they fixed it in software, and installing AOSP or GravityBox that changes system files, gets rid of that software "fix".

Well, try to trigger the problem a couple of times with gravity box installed. I don't have it, installed xposed once and had major lag, stuttering and FC problems, then i took the ting off. Didn't test the jack thing, but i've never been a hard xposed user.
I really think my problem is hardware-related, but tonight i'll head home without the case and report back here.
If I am on a stock Moto ROM, I have the problem. When I moved to AOSP/CM based ROM's, I can manipulate my headphones without causing it to stop.. I think maybe the stock kernel is a bit too sensitive and stops it with just a little bit of disconnection vs a more lax implementation in AOSP/CM...
So I've ran my tests: climbed stairs, climbed down stairs, run a Lil bit, shake my hips (they don't lie) and messed around my pocket: no sign of Jack problems. I guess that flashing stock firmware again did the job, as you have stated earlier. I'm going to stop using the case and go jogging, or going more often to work listening to music without it, but after today field tests, I'm sure the issue is gone.

Just an update: I give up. I've tried multiple things, including almost bricking my device. I cannot find something definite at all. Installing a clean factory image (or a rom that has not been changed much) will get rid of the problem, even with root. However after restoring my TitaniumBackup of about 140 apps, the problem came back for a while. I noticed it after enabling MotoVoice, so I disabled moto voice and it disappeared, but then re-enabling moto voice didn't make the problem come back... And that is why I give up. I've ordered a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
I think that flashing the stock firmware again is the ultimate solution to solve the problem. After some tests I really couldn't trigger it again, so I guess that's the end of it
The problem is that the issue is so random I can't seem to find a proper way to trigger or to say it is 100% solved. I've read about it happening since the first generation moto g, seems like a hardware issue, but...
My headphone jack wont work properly when i insert the headphones into the jack completely but it works fine when i pull out a lil of the pin of headphones out of the headphone jack whats the deal its too annoying
