Dear all,
I have bricked my magic (I think), after that, I've searched xda-developers forum throughout.
Here's my situation.
I've tried back+power, volume down+power, home+power, menu+power, combination of keys+power with both usb plugged and unplugged.
All I got is HAMI logo, then reboot again.
I can't get the fastboot work, on my computer, I only got "< waiting for device >"
I can heard the usb connected sound for the htc magic, but it is disconnected at the reboot of the phone. That is the computer can't recognize it.
Still, I can't have access to the fastboot. So, no further action can be taken.
As far as I remember, I flushed the new SPL, then reboot infinitely
The only thing that still works is track ball+power, blue led light, look like a radio boot.
Can anyone help ????
Thanks
The trackball + power is the radio bootloader. There's a way to unbrick your phone from that mode. But you'll need a HTC Debug (serial) cable. Anyway, I don't know much about radio bootloader. So I don't think I'm the right person to ask.

Where can I find this HTC Debug (Serial) cable or find out more about it - I haven't had luck searching?
I think that this is it.
bestcelldist.com/htc_magic_serial_data_cable.htm
even with the serial cable there is currently no way to unbrick your phone, but we are working on it.
There is a thread in teh G1 called jtag blar blar where there is an on going discussion about this have a read, the more people we get working on this the faster we will get a solution.

hi folks,
I am in real trouble. while trying to unlock i hard-resetted it, but now the phone is got stuck in tri-colour mode, I don't know what to do. Basically now it went like funny. it would not turn on, while u put it on to charge it will show the tri-colour and also if i leave it on charge it is getting hot. Do u guys recon any chip to be hitted?
if u need to know anything else pls let me know.
Regards
have you loaded a rom on to it?
hi there,
Not actually, basically one of my friend tried to unlock it in first place. I don't really know what he did with that. but the phone is totally dead now. If anyone can help me that will be highly appreciated because this phone is not mine, this is customer's.
If he tried to put rom on it what consequence would happen and is there any way to get out of there?
Regards
windows software gone
Hello there,
It's me again. I think on this the software is missing. Because if i connect it to the computer it brings on the tri-colour and shows usb connection. So, the software i think missing. If anyone can give me a link how to put the software in there i will appreciate that. But still i am not pretty sure why it is getting hot while charge and why it is not turning on even it charged.
thanx

If you are stuck in the bootloader, download MTTY, connect via USB (Activ Sync must disabled via USB!!!) and type the Command "boot"

Try it ... search for Tri-Color or Bootloader Mode.
still no solution
No success mate. I have downloaded the mtty. and it says usb port cannot open. but if i go to com3 it allows me to write something over there. i write boot on it but nothing happening , and actually i don't know what would happen?
regards
Try it again ... again ... again ... you need to connect VIA USB!!!!!!!!
If he cant Open ... shut down your Activ Sync!
If you cant ... use a other PC. Vista have some bugs and Windows XP 64 too.
I've got a "Brick" HTC Magic - Vodafone.
Basically, when i press the power button doesn't start. It happened after follow the "Install / Update SPL" ( http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL ) guide.
Is there any way to recover it? or should i put it on the bin?
You're going to have to be more specific than "it doesn't start".
Does it turn on? If so, does it hang at the htc magic screen? Can you hold vol-down and press power (while still holding vol-down) and load a screen with three androids on skateboards? If you can do the last step, it's not bricked, and you should look at the thread I have below about bricking and semi bricking, one of the users on there gave a great amount of information on what you can do if your phone's not working right (bricked).

Hi Caid, thanks for the reply! sorry for the short message without details.
Here is the answer for your first question (sadly, the rest of questions can be skipped):
Does it turn on?
It doesn't
It was after follow the guide i mentioned before. I tried to update the SPL, but something went wrong and my phone didn't turn on again.
So... I think I have to accept the fact is not going to work again.
Is there any kind of service able to fix this?
Anibal
No display at all? no backlight on the screen? no vibration (signifying it's past a certain point in the loading stage)?
You probably tried taking out the battery for 10 seconds and then putting it back?
As Caid444 asked, tried holding Back+Power for a few seconds (after making sure power is off and not just hanging. Take off battery for 10 sec and reload)? Tried holding Home+Power after making sure power is off?

I'd really like to say it DOES something... but it doesn't . I tried Volume down + power, back + power and several more combination always taking out the battery and putting it back.
It's bad... Do u know if there's any hardware service for this?
Just a wild guess, but since the phone sucks more battery, then a vampyre on rampage.
Could it be an idea, to charge the battery before, or have the usb cable pluged in, when you press back+home? (the same buttons you used to enter fastboot)
I'm pretty sure what you're trying to say is, you know enough about the phone to know how to bring it into it's multiple boot options, and none of them make the phone even burp. So there's no need to tell you to press this button plus that button, or insert usb or remove usb, or battery or such, because you've already done all that.
Well, I'd have to agree with you that it's dead. Unfortunately, there's nothing to do at the moment. I'm guessing (or maybe just hoping) that in the future there will be an unbricker for our phone, much like those available for many htc branded winmo phones. In the meantime, how old is your phone? Can you still bring it back?
Caid.

p.s To anyone else who's trying to figure this out, let's assume that he's already tried the many variations of recovery procedures and that it's still not working.

If it's really a brick and we all want to learn something from this then we need to know the following :
1. What was your original SPL
2. To which SPL did you "try" to upgrade? (I hope you didn't try to flash a G1 SPL on your Magic...).

That's how my brick arrived ! Tried Hard SPL, after installing the one you suggested. Yours okay, Hard SPL no. But even after installing the spl, no fastboot adb.
BRICKED by HARD SPL ( the recommended )
Same here, I have just bricked my new vodafone HTC Magic (Vaffanc...)
downloaded from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list?q=label:SPL
I hope something can be done. It is not reacting to power button at all.

I think you are right, I have flashed the G1 SPL. But the page is really not clear, it start speaking as Dream/Magic and probably it is only for Dream. Since it says to apply the Hard Spl and in the download link(http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL) there is no clue that it is not for the G2.
Any idea? anybody got it changed from the shop with no problems? (mine is vodafone in the netherlands)

as far as i can see no need to flash spl on vodafone magic. i have the same phone and all i did was root with Rav1.1.1G.img and flashed rom of my choice. you have flashed phone with g1 spl and it actually says g1 on the link you provided..........can't see how you missed it. with phone off press home+power button as that bring up recovery image. Rav image file is safer due to that. i am sure if hardspl was available for Magic it would be posted on here as a sticky

It seems to me you need to go back to basics and start here
A noob question but what exactly does flashing a new SPL unlock.
I got my Vodafone UK HTC magic and simply Downloaded a 32B ROM and used nandroid backup to apply the update.zip and it installed fine and can use Root required apps.
hi all
My HTC magic was bricked after update SPL. Now when press power button, it stuck at HTC magic logo, anyone have solution for fix its?
I Can not understand how can this be possible. Why guys all of you, don't read before trying to change your SPL???? You even don't need any changes about it?! Why do you try to change the SPL? Do you know what that SPL does? I think most of you - don't.
My next question is why all of you are trying to flash the G1 SPL onto Magic phone? Are you crazy or what? There is NO HARDSPL for Magic (G2, Sapphire or whatever you want to call this device)!
The SPL collection is posted in this forum by Amon_Ra, and if someone want to change the SPL can do this by downloading some of the SPL collections posted here.

Power off your phone! Then press and HOLD the "back button", while holding it press once the red one(which you usually use to power on the phone). It will power on (i hope). If you get in fastboot mode then everything will be fine.
Hello,
I didn't have any USB connexions anymore on my 32a magic.
In fastboot, no problems.
But with any rom (myhero, GyD, Cyanogen), no USB available !
I don't have the USB mount notification on magic, and have an "unknown usb device" notification on xp.
But the Sd card is ok.
How can I fix it ?
Thanks
Nobody ?
Many Hero owners have this trouble
I checked PID and VID. Both are 0x0000 ! (unknown device)
It sounds like an hardware trouble, but why is it ok in fastboot mode ?
I have exactly the same problem on my 32B... since I bought the phone(second hand), that it has this problem, I have been looking everywhere and I got no answer...
I read somewhere that flashing the SPL could solve the problem, but I haven't tried it.
I flashed to SPL 2010 yesterday... no improvements.

Humm, thats bad news
I have the same problem on my MT3G after the motherboard on my gaming rig blew, the phone just went dark and it also destroyed my usb jump drive that was plugged in next to it. It (usb jump drive) was really hot to the touch when I pulled it out. I smelled something burning from inside the computer, I never did figure out what it was. Now when I plug the phone into my loptop all the phone does is charge, the computer wont see it and neither does the phone ask to mount. The sd card is still good but now I either have to use a card reader or transfer files through bluetooth.
I wiped, formatted, "mount usb" through the recovery, flashed different roms, nothing works. I guess I damaged the circuit board or the usb port somehow. I wanna call Tmo for a warrenty replacement but then Ill have to flash back to the original spl and ROM. I dont really want to go through the rooting process again. Is there a way to find out for sure if it is the software or a hardware issue? Like some kind of test through the terminal?

Humm, that means that we might have something "fried" on our phones
The weird thing is that I can access usb through fastboot... Are you able to use fastboot on your phone?
It really would be interesting if there was any way to check if it really is an hardware problem or software problem.
Has anyone else got a clue on this one?
If we can access USB in fastboot, it sounds like a software problem to me.
But after trying several roms and spl, no changes.
I would try to flash a new SPL, but if I do that I won't be able to put back the original SPL and may not take it back to HTC and repair it under warranty... I will wait about a week or so, put back as it was originally, and send it back to HTC and see if they will repair it.

That's weird, what spl have you used and what was your initial spl? How did you flashed that SPL?
I tested all SPL I think !
But the last i tried sould be 1.33.2004.
Now, phone locked on TIM logo screen, impossible to go into fastboot or recovery, even with unbrick hacks found on the forum
If it gets to the operate logo, I guess that you should be able to get to recovery rom...
Can't you get to hboot mode(volume down + power on) , or to fastboot mode(back + power on)?
Nop !
I tried all combinations: Volume Down + power on, Back + power on, Home + power on.
Same result! Operator Logo
I'm now stuck at the T-mobile G1 screen.
this is the first time this has happened to me.
I was running superD 1.10.2 but wanted to try a hero port.
I tried various hero roms and was stuck on the G1 screen every time
I tried going back to super d but I'm still stuck.
I've wiped between each flash.
It's not fully bricked cause I can still get to the recover screens by pressing home+power to boot and power+camera
When going back to SuperD did you flash the defanged base/Htc Recovery?
I don't know what that is so I don't think I did.
am I supposed to be flashing this in between roms?
I've never done so.

Recently SuperD went legal, and as such it requires the htc recovery to have been flashed before it was. Not sure about your problems with hero roms
In that case, I don't think I need the defanged base/Htc Recovery because I've had the rom downloaded before it went legal.
and also: I've had this problem before with open ecclair. It would never boot.
but I was always able to flash back to super D for some reason.
update.
I tried some other roms,
I got BlueMagic and htc clays remix of csdi to both work.
but I still can't get back to superD
yeah man... for some reason when i tried a hero rom, and tried to go back to super d it didnt work so i just flashed super csdi. but idk what it is either

The blue light is for JTAG, which is basically a bunch of wires you can plug into the inside of your phone to get it working. Problem is, it's hardcore advanced and voids your warranty unreversably. If Camera+Power and Home+Power don't work, you may be out of luck.

Please don't talk about things you don't understand.
Blue light mode is NOT "for jtag". It is for SERIAL CONSOLE -- an interface that can be used for executing RADIO COMMANDS over RS232.
JTAG is used to HACK the blue light mode in order to enable MORE RADIO COMMANDS. Essentially, it escalates the PRIVILEGES of the serial console to the equivalent of ROOT.
Think of it like ROOTING YOUR RADIO.

I think I bricked my Magic flashing ENG SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2004.
Starts, vibrates and gets stuck at splashscreen "HTC Magic". If I hold the ball when it starts then the blue led will shine forever, dont know why.
It charges when power is attached.
fastboot boot recovery.img does not work, it never finds the phone. Iv done all key combos I could find and it does not react.
I tried to add SAPPIMG.nbh to the memory card, but that did nothing. Not sure that I have the right .nbh, iv got a 32A.
Anyways, iv done anything I can think of, nothing works.
Any suggestions? Dont say JTAG....
Edit: I saw the Arrow box thing after it had flashed the new SPL and restarted, but I only saw it once and it just flashed fast on the screen. Blink and I would have missed it.

If it's powering on (sort of) that's a good sign! If the computer sees it at all that's also a good sign.
Good luck to you! Here's a link to a sappimg file that's known to work on mytouch 1.2 which is sort of a 32a. Can anyone verify that this file will work for him?
Also I thought 32a had to be sappimg.zip and not sappimg.nbh? Try that...

Vol Down + Power. Good luck!
Make sure you double-check on whether the file I linked you is compatible with 32a. That file works with the myTouch 1.2 which is a 32a board that uses 32b radio. I have no idea which spl it uses, so do your research first! Since you're a standard 32a (aren't you?) that file may or may not be compatible.
Yes, its a standard 32A.
Cant I build my own zip with the required files?
Edit: No reaction what so ever on the VolDown. When I think of it, right before I unplugged the phone from my PC the last time it worked I actually had a device named HTC Dream installed. Since I was playing with recovery roms etc I did not care much about it. But now, seeing that its dead, is it possible that it will react to dream.zip or whatever file name is used?
Edit2: Found it, dreaimg.

Damn, that sucks... Also no reaction from Home+Power? Do you have a dedicated camera button? Try camera button+power if you do.
Dream? Dream is the G1, totally different hardware. 32B.
Yes, I know the dream is G1 32B.
But my PC found a HTC Dream, the fastboot screen said 32A and the hardware is a Magic.
I would also want to know whats with this blue led. When I hold down the scroll ball and start the device the blue LED lights up but the screen does not. Device does not react to anything, need to pull battery to restart it. Ideas?

Wow, that's weird, and beyond the scope of my knowledge, unfortunately.
No way to get into fastboot? If you can get the phone into fastboot you can sappimg back to life.
Check out this thread.

I think I bricked my Magic flashing ENG SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2004.
Starts, vibrates and gets stuck at splashscreen "HTC Magic". If I hold the ball when it starts then the blue led will shine forever, dont know why.
It charges when power is attached.
Edit: I saw the Arrow box thing after it had flashed the new SPL and restarted, but I only saw it once and it just flashed fast on the screen. Blink and I would have missed it.

I´m rather new and read tons of documentation by now but it seems i have exactly the same Problem with my HTC Magic 32B.
Best solution is now to get a new phone?
Edit: Sometimes when i try to get into the Fastboot Mode, the HTC Magic splashscreen disappears after a few seconds and a "new" kinda blue background is sliding from the left to the right but without any other effect
JTAG seems to be the only other option right now.
Im not interested enought to find a solution to this.
