Stuck on "T-mobile G1" screen - G1 General

I'm now stuck at the T-mobile G1 screen.
this is the first time this has happened to me.
I was running superD 1.10.2 but wanted to try a hero port.
I tried various hero roms and was stuck on the G1 screen every time
I tried going back to super d but I'm still stuck.
I've wiped between each flash.
It's not fully bricked cause I can still get to the recover screens by pressing home+power to boot and power+camera

When going back to SuperD did you flash the defanged base/Htc Recovery?

I don't know what that is so I don't think I did.
am I supposed to be flashing this in between roms?
I've never done so.

Recently SuperD went legal, and as such it requires the htc recovery to have been flashed before it was. Not sure about your problems with hero roms

In that case, I don't think I need the defanged base/Htc Recovery because I've had the rom downloaded before it went legal.
and also: I've had this problem before with open ecclair. It would never boot.
but I was always able to flash back to super D for some reason.

update.
I tried some other roms,
I got BlueMagic and htc clays remix of csdi to both work.
but I still can't get back to superD

yeah man... for some reason when i tried a hero rom, and tried to go back to super d it didnt work so i just flashed super csdi. but idk what it is either

The blue light is for JTAG, which is basically a bunch of wires you can plug into the inside of your phone to get it working. Problem is, it's hardcore advanced and voids your warranty unreversably. If Camera+Power and Home+Power don't work, you may be out of luck.

Please don't talk about things you don't understand.
Blue light mode is NOT "for jtag". It is for SERIAL CONSOLE -- an interface that can be used for executing RADIO COMMANDS over RS232.
JTAG is used to HACK the blue light mode in order to enable MORE RADIO COMMANDS. Essentially, it escalates the PRIVILEGES of the serial console to the equivalent of ROOT.
Think of it like ROOTING YOUR RADIO.

blue light go red light stop ?!?!
Hi
thanks for all the support !!!
so basicly i am F###T with a big F !! i cant get in to boot loader or any thing with it
so there is no software like ruu tool or htc little back road program i can use with usb cable or any thing

Do a camera power reset and try again.
i tried that and it didnt do anything at all. isnt that just where you hold the end key and the side camera key and stick the stylus into the hole?
if so, it have any different effect than the standard soft reset

Hold down the power button and the camera button at the same time until the tri colored bootloader comes up. If that works, try flashing the stock rom for your carrier.
If that doesn't work try the same steps with the memory card removed.
If that doesn't work try to do a hard reset and see if that will take you to the bootloader.
Also, what are the numbers in on the bootloader...are you sure your device is unlocked? I believe it should say... SPL-00.40.coke... on the 2nd line if your unlocked.
You shouldn't need to connect to activesync to reboot. After you run ImCokeMan's unlocker you should be unlocked until you run it again.
As I said in the last post, all you have to do to get to the boot loader is hold down the power and camera buttons at the same time. This will put the phone into the boot loader and you should be able to flash back to the stock rom and start over.
It kind of sounds like you relocked the phone and then tried to boot a custom rom.
sorry i wasnt saying i needed to connect to activesync to reboot, i was saying i needed to connect to activesync to flash, and it wouldnt boot up so i couldnt get to activesync.
and i did to imcokemans unlocker, and everything went fine. when i was setting up the device (ie. setting password, time zone, calibration, etc...) i just decided that i didnt need to finish that as i was intending on flashing a custom rom anyway, and so any settings i put up the time to set would be erased.
having said that, i went ahead and starting flashing a custom rom right from the wm welcome screen that you get on a first boot.
thanks a LOT for your help, promptness, and attention
So are you back up and running?
well, now i am. i just took a 30 min drive down to the sprint store and got a replacement :S
thanks a lot for your help though, im scared i may really need to refer back to this thread later. but if i do, at least i know i should be able to fix it!
thanks.
well, i just did it again. i must be doing something wrong in the cooking of my ROMs...about to try out your solution..hope it works!!
wish me luck :S :S :S :S
well i was able to re-flash, but, unfortunately, it is stuck in the same "htc smart mobility" screen again. i think i have been able to narrow it down to the oemizer app. i must be doing something wrong in there.
oemizer http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=100746&referrerid=10115
ill keep cooking and trying tonight until i find what it is the problem is i guess, thx for your help guys. especially you 360discgolf.
well, after cooking and flashing too many times to remember this late, all i can do is ask for help when you guys wake up and check this thread.
in the last couple of builds i havent been doing anything with oemizer at all and it still hasnt been working, and i dont think i am doing anything extra in buildos that i havent done before in successful ROM images...it seems sort of erratic.
any suggestions/hints/comments would be great, thanks a lot.
you can't just hold the two buttons and press the reset. You have to hold the two buttons at the same time, then while holding them, use the stylus to hold the reset until it restarts. If you just tap the reset button while hold, it doesn't work.

i'm having a similar problem. my attempt at flashing didn't go over that well and now when I turn off the device, I can't turn it on again unless I do a soft reset. I tried doing the power/camera thing but all it does is ask "are you sure, yada yada" and then the devices turns off. you were talking about a stock rom? where would I get one and how would I re-flash the rom (assuming that's the problem in the first place.).
Thanks!

what carrier are you?
EDIT: also:
1) what os version are you running? (build number)
2) what radio are you running?
3) what bootloader are you on? (can be accessed via holding power + camera button and poking reset hole)
4) what are the orange numbers in the very bottom right of the screen when you are booting up?
these kinds of things all need to kind of jive for the sleep function to work correctly

If you used the imcokemans unlocker a 2nd time, I believe you re-lock your phone.
You also mentioned that you tried to flash the ROM from the Welcome Screen. That certainly won't work. You have to be at the unlocked rainbow bootloader screen which will load when you run the RUU or when you press Power-Camera-Reset. If it doesn't go into bootloader then you've probably re-locked your phone.

My HTC Magic is bricked

I've got a "Brick" HTC Magic - Vodafone.
Basically, when i press the power button doesn't start. It happened after follow the "Install / Update SPL" ( http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL ) guide.
Is there any way to recover it? or should i put it on the bin?
You're going to have to be more specific than "it doesn't start".
Does it turn on? If so, does it hang at the htc magic screen? Can you hold vol-down and press power (while still holding vol-down) and load a screen with three androids on skateboards? If you can do the last step, it's not bricked, and you should look at the thread I have below about bricking and semi bricking, one of the users on there gave a great amount of information on what you can do if your phone's not working right (bricked).

Hi Caid, thanks for the reply! sorry for the short message without details.
Here is the answer for your first question (sadly, the rest of questions can be skipped):
Does it turn on?
It doesn't
It was after follow the guide i mentioned before. I tried to update the SPL, but something went wrong and my phone didn't turn on again.
So... I think I have to accept the fact is not going to work again.
Is there any kind of service able to fix this?
Anibal
No display at all? no backlight on the screen? no vibration (signifying it's past a certain point in the loading stage)?
You probably tried taking out the battery for 10 seconds and then putting it back?
As Caid444 asked, tried holding Back+Power for a few seconds (after making sure power is off and not just hanging. Take off battery for 10 sec and reload)? Tried holding Home+Power after making sure power is off?
please i need some help htc touche cruise

I'd really like to say it DOES something... but it doesn't . I tried Volume down + power, back + power and several more combination always taking out the battery and putting it back.
It's bad... Do u know if there's any hardware service for this?
Just a wild guess, but since the phone sucks more battery, then a vampyre on rampage.
Could it be an idea, to charge the battery before, or have the usb cable pluged in, when you press back+home? (the same buttons you used to enter fastboot)
I'm pretty sure what you're trying to say is, you know enough about the phone to know how to bring it into it's multiple boot options, and none of them make the phone even burp. So there's no need to tell you to press this button plus that button, or insert usb or remove usb, or battery or such, because you've already done all that.
Well, I'd have to agree with you that it's dead. Unfortunately, there's nothing to do at the moment. I'm guessing (or maybe just hoping) that in the future there will be an unbricker for our phone, much like those available for many htc branded winmo phones. In the meantime, how old is your phone? Can you still bring it back?
Caid.

p.s To anyone else who's trying to figure this out, let's assume that he's already tried the many variations of recovery procedures and that it's still not working.

If it's really a brick and we all want to learn something from this then we need to know the following :
1. What was your original SPL
2. To which SPL did you "try" to upgrade? (I hope you didn't try to flash a G1 SPL on your Magic...).

That's how my brick arrived ! Tried Hard SPL, after installing the one you suggested. Yours okay, Hard SPL no. But even after installing the spl, no fastboot adb.
BRICKED by HARD SPL ( the recommended )
Same here, I have just bricked my new vodafone HTC Magic (Vaffanc...)
downloaded from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list?q=label:SPL
I hope something can be done. It is not reacting to power button at all.

I think you are right, I have flashed the G1 SPL. But the page is really not clear, it start speaking as Dream/Magic and probably it is only for Dream. Since it says to apply the Hard Spl and in the download link(http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL) there is no clue that it is not for the G2.
Any idea? anybody got it changed from the shop with no problems? (mine is vodafone in the netherlands)
Me idiot, I have to leave tomorrow for holidays!

as far as i can see no need to flash spl on vodafone magic. i have the same phone and all i did was root with Rav1.1.1G.img and flashed rom of my choice. you have flashed phone with g1 spl and it actually says g1 on the link you provided..........can't see how you missed it. with phone off press home+power button as that bring up recovery image. Rav image file is safer due to that. i am sure if hardspl was available for Magic it would be posted on here as a sticky

A noob question but what exactly does flashing a new SPL unlock.
I got my Vodafone UK HTC magic and simply Downloaded a 32B ROM and used nandroid backup to apply the update.zip and it installed fine and can use Root required apps.
hi all
My HTC magic was bricked after update SPL. Now when press power button, it stuck at HTC magic logo, anyone have solution for fix its?
I Can not understand how can this be possible. Why guys all of you, don't read before trying to change your SPL???? You even don't need any changes about it?! Why do you try to change the SPL? Do you know what that SPL does? I think most of you - don't.
My next question is why all of you are trying to flash the G1 SPL onto Magic phone? Are you crazy or what? There is NO HARDSPL for Magic (G2, Sapphire or whatever you want to call this device)!
The SPL collection is posted in this forum by Amon_Ra, and if someone want to change the SPL can do this by downloading some of the SPL collections posted here.

Power off your phone! Then press and HOLD the "back button", while holding it press once the red one(which you usually use to power on the phone). It will power on (i hope). If you get in fastboot mode then everything will be fine.

I hope if anyone can help me as am really desperate right now, i think i bricked my htc magic or i dont know what i did exactly.

was told to try another zip rom files. all was the same problem. then i found a file, but unfortunately it was something called SPL wasnt a rom. after i flashed it my phone now is switching on and freeze on the vodafone logo forever.
i tried like i saw on the forums to press on back+power but nothin home+power neither vol. down+power.
the same as well i can see the blue led light if i pressed on the trackball and the power but thats its.
i saw a lot of forums talking about the same exact problem, but didnt find any clear solution, the only one was pressing on back + power but i did that a lot of time but it didnt work at all,it keeps showing the vodafone logo and thats it, anyone has an idea how can we fix it or its unfixable or what ?!

I'm not much of an expert myself. I've got the basics down of rooting and flashing, but try looking up a how to unroot guide for your phone. theunlockr.com has pretty good step-by-step video and text guides. I'm assuming you have the MT3G so try this page:
theunlockr .com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g
After you unroot follow their rooting guide. Its very simple to do and only takes about a half hour to do.

Yup. Sounds like a brick. If you update the SPL you better damn know which SPL you're flashing and if it's compatible with your device. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Right SPL + Right Radio = Good device (99% of the time)
Wrong SPL + Right Radio = brick (60% of the time)
Wrong SPL + Wrong Radio = brick (99% of the time)
Right SPL + Wrong Radio = brick (60% of the time)
Do you see the pattern here?
In other words you NEED to make sure that you are flashing the appropriate SPL for your device and make sure that you have the right radio before flashing ANYTHING.
Now since it would appear that in your case you don't even have a clue of what SPL/Radio you had to begin with and you just blindly flash a random SPL, we don't even have a way of telling if you have a 32a or a 32b device. Not that it matters because if you cannot get into the bootloader or recovery then the only chance that I think that you have is looking up JTAG, tearing your device apart, soldering the test points and running the program. This would allow you to reflash your spl. However I suggest you try to do a warranty exchange because I wouldn't even waste my money on JTAG technique.
This is for the G1 so it would probably be a little different than the MT3G, but the concept should be the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048&highlight=jtag
but not everybody is so unlucky. take a look at this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571457
so you never know.
Thank you
Really many many thanks for your reply, i really do appreciate it. i know that am a noob with what i did with my phone, i was just trying to get back to the cupcake. i never imagined that i could ruin everything just like that.
anyway u r right when u said that i know nothin about the radio and the SPL i started with, but i just noticed that the SPL named (Sapphire-signed), and my device is HTC Magic with vodafone 32a. but i dont know what sapphire is.
so i will give it a try with lookin for someone here who can help with tha Jtag thing, if not i will try to send it to be repaired. however i guess that the warranty doesnt cover such faults.
sorry for posting my thread at the wrong place.
Thanks for your time

[Q] Stuck at bootloader at boot

Hi
A friend of mine has a HD2, never HSPL or anything and still running on 1.42 rom.... Now everytime it boots it goes straight into the bootloader. Since its never been messed around with I find it odd, seen it before with people with other phones. Would this just be a corrupted ROM and therefore it goes there, would if poss a stock rom flash be able to restore the phone, if that is not the case then a warranty return is still valid, but obv not wanted.
What do you think, will this work? I did search but everyone's posts come up with I task 29 and now stuck... etc and not from a stock bootloader as well!
Cheers any help will be appreciated, my first thing I will get him to try is a rom reflash but that will be tonight, I'll update on the progress then!
First thing I would check is if his volume button is stuck for some reason. Second would be to see if it detects a USB connection, then hard spl and new rom from that point. Keep us posted.

The post above me is correct check and make sure the volume down button is not stuck/Hung in the down position. If it is stuck in the down position like it is being held down at boot then this is the cause of it going straight to bootloader at boot up. If there is no problem with the volume down button then try a hard reset of the HD2. Warning this will reset your friends HD2 tolike it was fresh out the box so any photos, videos, documents, and etc that is not on the SD card they will lose. Also any contacts that are not backed up withan app like Microsoft My Phone will be lost. To do the reset while the HD2 is off bold the volume up and the volume down buttons down and press and bold the power button down. When you see the tri color screen come up release the volume and power buttons and follow the instructions on the screen (hint: you will want to press the vume up button). Now if after the Hard reset your friends HD2 still goes to bootloader at boot up then download and flash the stock ROM for their HD2 you can find it on HTC.com but make sure you varifiy that it is for their HD2 by entering the serial number of their HD2 you can find the serial number look under the battery. To flash the ROM let the HD2 boot up to the bootloader and then connect it to the computer via USB cable and wait for the Serial in the white bar of the boooader screen to change to USB and for your computer to show it recognize the pbone and then run the .exe or RUU wich everone the ROM has.
Never thought of the key being held done will try that first.
Also I won't HSPL'ing as its in warranty and a half HSPL'ed phone is well useless
OK so i feel like a bit of an idiot for this one. Turns out what I call a bootloader and he does is totally different. For me Its the tri-colour screen, for him its the red/orange windows boot screen. So it was all solved by a HR. Great..
Sorry for those who offered the advice but it really was not needed. but solid advice it was, you always can rely on help in here

Need help after bad flash.

So basically i tried to flash android this was my first time doing any of this & it stuffed up badly now all my phone does is boot up into the white htc logo screen & won't get past there. It use to have 3 sets of numbers on the side but now it doesn't. I tried to go into the recovery boot loader screen. I use to be able to get into it but it never did any thing. I took it to a phone shop & they said i had water damage I never put the phone near water what so ever but they said it because my friend pressed the red button on the back which tells you have water damage. If anyone could help i would be so appreciative the phone i have now seems to be a pile of crap compared to the HTC!
Thanks in advance.

I dont know who told that bull**** but the red button on back is a reset switch, it has nothing to do with water damage.
To me it just sounds like you have task29 and not actually flashed magldr yet.
Hold down the volume down button while powering on phone, keep hold of volume down button until you boot into bootloader. Once in bootloader launch the HD2 Toolkit and flash magldr. Once you ahve installed magldr choose USB Flasher from magldr menu and then repartition using the toolkit.
Once you have partitioned to teh required size for you rom just flash teh zip file using CWM.
Since this is your first time flashing android on HD2 I would recomend looking at forum for a bit and reading guides because its obviosu you just jumped in and didnt read much.
