After i dropped it on the floor, on a thick carpet though.
No physical damage, the phone is still powering on and all the hardware buttons work just fine, the screen just isn't responding.
I'm gonna send it back for repair, any hint/tips i might try to make it work before i send it away for probably 4-6 weeks?
Thanks!
Id guess the connector between the screen and the mainboard has come loose. Probably really simple to re connect, but would require opening teh phone which would void the warranty, so i would recommend you bite the bullet and send it back.

Hi, I bought an XDA second hand and apparently they wont touch it under warranty. They claim its my fault and say I broke it anyway!
Now, it all works when opened like a laptop, however when I rotate the screen and fold it flat like the old XDAII, the touchscreen stops working.
If i rotate back to landscape mode, it works again.
Ive done a hard reset, and firmware upgrade so im sure its not software.
I assume there is a dodgy cable in the hinge, does anybody repair these, or can I do it myself?

Cable connector sounds loose - the cable is many thin strands so if it was a broken cable it would stop working completley. You need to diss-assemble the screen module and re-seat the push fit connectors. If the warranty seal is still intact contact the XDA helpline.

b4 u dissemble just try pressing at all the corners of the exec...u can get it working..
I took it apart, the connector was NOT loose
Now, it seems the cable is broken inside one of the wires.
Im screwed. I have a brick.

Can you see it's broken? Repair it with a bridging piece of wire. You can't buy the looms so unless you can repair the broken wire you do have a brick :-(
Use a multimeter to check for continuity of the wires.

Hi everyone,
Tonight my Dopod D810 developed a 'rattle'.
When it rings and vibrates or even when I shake the phone lightly, I can hear something small rattling around inside like perhaps a small piece of plastic.
Taking the battery cover off and battery out did not help, it seems to be behind that and near the top of the phone around the lens/speaker area....
Any ideas on what I should do? Although I may have to, I'm reluctant to take it to a '3' store here in Melbourne, knowing that they will probably send it away for maintenance and I'll have to do without a phone for weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks in advance,
BB.
I don't know about '3' but I think many phone stores can lend you a spare phone during the maintenance period.
Of course, that phone may not be as fancy as your trinity, but I think in this situation, any working phone would do.
there really isnt much that can come loose there. there is a small posidrive screw thats sunk into a plastic channel that could rattle if it came loose, and the vibrator motor is there as well so i guess it could have worked its way loose. depending how confident you are you could take the back off and have a look, just have to deal with that pesky warranty void sticker (and lay your hands on a set of small torx drivers)
thanks all - i don't want to void the warranty so early so i might just take it into '3' and get them to look at it....
Also, around the same time, the camera buttons has become difficult to push. It still has the tactile response of being pushed but it now does nothing.
I cannot launch the camera by pressing this button, nor can I take any photos now! Due to the hardware key not working, there is no soft-key method to take photos
Agree that you should take it back to the store as you don't want to loose your warranty.
If you did feal brave, this good post might help

screw loose
had the same prob. Opened my p3600 and had to refit one srew which had loosened itself. It even got stuck in the vibrating engine.
i did void my warranty though...
Thanks reb - did your camera button also stop working?
Mine was a screw that became lose from the speaker phone, quick fix no point of sending it in for repair. Wll i didnt
Hey BlackBeauty how did you get on with this? Mine has developed the same rattle noise. It started after the phone vibrated from a call coming in.
Have you opened yours up?
I sent my Trinity back to HTC to get fixed. I still have 9 months on the warranty and didn't want to void it. Must have been a loose screw as that was HTC's response. Sent it away on Monday and got it back today (Friday) good as new!
My daughter's Shadow screen went blank... but the backlight was still working leading me to believe that something other than the screen had gone bad. When she gave it to me to look at, I noticed the sliding mechanism felt loose and I could hear something within (crackling like from a stuck or damaged ribbon cable). This further lead me to believe that the screen was probably ok. Following some instructions I found on how to disassemble the device, I was able to take apart the phone. What I found was that two of the four screws that hold the sliding mechanism had worked loose and that the spring had broken in the middle. The loose spring then appeared to have torn away at the edge of the ribbon cable that connected the main PCB to the screen. So, what I need now is a replacement spring for the sliding mechanism and a new ribbon cable. Does anyone know where I could get these? I am hoping that I do not need to purchase a whole sliding mechanism and screen but if I do, than I guess I will do that. Any insight appreciated.
This is the only place that i know of that has Shadow parts and it doesn't look like they have the parts you need.

WHY??
Whats the point of posting unneccessary information?? He obviously cant use it. You could try Ebay. You could try buying a broken Shadow and using the parts.

did you buy this shadow directly fromn t-mobile with renewing your contract or with a new contract?
cause if so the shadow would have been covered under warranty, but if you opened it up and tore any warranty stickers then well you're SOL... i can appreciate the fact that you're trying to do it yourself, but warranty replacements through cell phone companies are no joke and easy to do if its not a problem caused by you
This is why.
I did it just to piss you off.
so i dropped my phone from maybe 2 feet in the air, and the button just stops working altogether. no matter how hard or long i press the button, it doesnt respond at all. how can i fix it?
*bumppppppppppp*
Off course everything is fixable, certainly if rest of phone is working correctly.
You will have to open up your phone (break warranty) and investigate.
It could be simple, but it could also bee that your Motherboard needs replacing.
Al in all You could try to fix it, but I reccomend turning it in for repair, thus leaving warranty intact.
If there are no obvious markings, scars from the fall, do not mention it has fallen. You cuold be in luck and get it repaired under warranty (assuming you still have warranty)
So my g/f droped my phone and my touch screen completly stoped working. So I went on a limb and replaced the digitizer and I thought all was well. Unforunatley only parts of the screen if you were to break the screen into 1/4s the top quarter doesnt work nor does the third down. So im thinking either the digitizer i recieved is defective or the ribon cable on the phone side is damaged. I have tried to reconnect everything all seems well.I have also tried a hard reset to no avail Any ideas guys could use some help!
Does anyone have a breakdown of the phone with part numbers and names. Im going to try and get the ribbon cable that connects the digitizer to the phone the one that runs under the power button.

Unless you really know what you're doing, this will be impossible. The screen and that ribbon are connected. Best bet is to just replace the entire digitizer again. Or do like I did, warranty it out. My screen shattered, door met phone, and I replaced it but had a dead spot, so I just called att and had them replace under warranty.
never mind found it the ribbon cable is one big piece for all connections! 15 bucks.
