too bad its completely hideous
Are there any other 32a Magic models that support T-Mobile 3g (1700/2100)?
I wonder if I could just drop the main board from that one into the black mytouch I have? Might be an option cause I agree, it's the ugliest damn phone I have ever seen. I have moved 32b boards from one mytouch to another with accelerometer issues (easily fixed) but not 32a to 32b. any ideas? Comments?

cant, the special edition has a headphone jack
I am very interested in this phone too, hopefully it will have custom backplates for sale somewhere
Just use that service that custom paints your phone rather then trying to swap parts between phones.. That or its a possibility that the front & back will be identical to current HT3G devices & just the center section will have the headphone jack (I think this is the most likely)
I have done a little plastic work before so I hope it's a possibility. I suppose we wont know till it's in someones hands.
also since nobody has the phone yet, I wouldnt hold your breath on that it actually has 288.. remember pre release of the MT3G tmo said it had 288 as well
that kinda sux I got mine a few weeks ago, i would definantly enjoy a bigger ram. I got mine cheaper using the $99 promo so it's not such a big loss I guess.
is this phone going to be running the same rom and stuff? any one got a front and side view of the phone?
so i got the dreaded dust under my lcd screen even with a screen protector on. i went to a sprint service center and they tried to clean it out and couldn't get all of it. they said they have seen many hero's with this issue and of course it is well known on the net. sprint says htc is working on a fix? so my question to them was, when they fix it will they repair our hero's or will we get another phone? sprint claims they will notify owners when the fix is ready. i have no idea what this means but they are very aware of it! bottom line is it is a manufacturer and sprint defect and im getting a new hero shipped out to me in a few days. where or not this one gets dust is yet to be seen but im very unhappy right now!
ive gone through 4 defective brand new sprint phones in 6 months. i love the hero but if my replacement gets dust im selling it for another device.
any of you guys have this issue yet?
I have it in my Hero as well. I bought at release, and the problem really escalated in late December. Now there is a huge explosion shaped area of dust coming from the bottom left corner of my screen. I'd show a picture if i had a camera other than my phone.
Issue is widly known, but I thought they already had a fix for this. Wasn't hardware version 2 a fixed model? Seems like they put something in between the phone body and screen. Maybe I am thinking about my old Storm, but I thought this had been fixed in all new models.

call sprint for a replacement, they will do it for you. from what the tech told me, htc is working on another hero device that will be the replacement for our defective ones. they think we will all get a free upgrade as long as we can proove we have a dusty phone.

there is no current fix for the hero, htc is 'working on it". it must be a defective seal on the lcd.

No company is ever going to give free upgrades when the complaint about the phone is a little dust under the screen ...............................................................................
Think about what you just said..
Its stupid to put any phone in your pocket,(ie Blackberry trackballs etc) and that issue is a direct result of a condition you have personally put your phone in..
Neither sprint, nor HTC is responsible for shoddy electronic upkeep.
mine has dust on the left botton corner too.. it's a revision 2 model...

Umm, im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with that statement right there lol. Phones can go in pockets, and the dust IS a design flaw. BUT on the other hand, I just took it apart and clean it up when it happened to me, and it has looked brand new ever since

what the hell are you talking about? it is a defect and they will fix it. it has nothing to do with how you carry it. think before you talk!

It's a defect??
So an issue that 1/1,000,000 Hero's has is a defect? Just because something is "widespread on the internet" doesn't mean its a defect. Just because 25 people have an issue doesn't mean its a defect. That 25 people is only a small small fraction of the entire market..
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it important. If you took the same care of your cell phone, that you do with everything else you own, you wouldn't be in this predicament..
Get rid of your sense of entitlement, and think before you talk...
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/23679?start=0&tstart=0&reqsorting=dec
that's how big this issue is, i cannot believe they cannot fix this or do a recall. i may have no choice but to buy a different phone.

i don't care if i get banned but your an ass, read the link i posted, this is a well known issue. wait till you get the dust and see how annoying it is to pay $500 for a 'quality" phone and be told to just deal with it.
do us a favor and don't respond, your posts are stupider by the minute.

I don't have dust... And I take care of my phone....
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

At the risk of feeding the troll I just want to say the following:
I just returned a phone I'd had for 2 weeks due to the dust under the LCD screen issue. I can assure you quite thoroughly that I took care of the phone. The people at Sprint knew about the issue and replaced it with no problems.
1. I don't now, nor have I ever carried my phone in my pocket.
2. The phone has a case, with belt clip. I carry it there.
3. I had a screen protector on the phone.
4. The dust appeared after the 3rd day.
5. I lint-free cloth cleaned my screen each evening.
Just because you were one of the lucky ones who got the phone without issues doesn't automatically mean that you're the only one who knows how to take care of your phone. People who spend 500-600.00 on a phone generally take REALLY good care of them.

your a troll, so yeah the hundreds of people with dust treat their phones like ****?..... please!
not to sound like a troll, but here's my story
i take EXCELLENT care of my phone, like its almost sad how much i love this phone and don't want anything to happen to it. everytime after i use it i wipe it off, wash my hands before handling, i put it in a ziploc bag anytime there may be moisture around.... the list goes on
my girlfriend on the other hand... she has a with google hero and her phone rolls around in her purse all day, one night she lost it and i found it under a couch cushion, she's dropped it (she has one of those bodyglove cases on it) and it came apart into about 6 pieces, three times that i know of, dropped it in spaghetti, the list goes on and on and on....
she doesn't take care of it at all,
but yet i have dust under my screen and she doesn't.
it's not about who takes better care of the device, it's about who gets what device to begin with. imo.
i had dust under my screen and my buttons (end call/ power and call) had the metal flaking off really bad
i brought it to the sprint store that had the service center and they gave me basically brand new housing for free. they replaced the whole front so my trackball is clear and it looks brand new
all for free!

I've hunted high and low for a video of the disassembly and assembly of the HTC Magic and have failed to find either I was hoping that someone could possibly find the time to record one? I think it would become an invaluable resource for an awful lot of people (just look at the sales of those replacement housing's on eBay, just recently me included ) I have a copy of the service manual however videos always give a better idea of what your meant to be doing...
I'd also be interested in better quality images of the disassembly/assembly if available anywhere
I may be getting my housing on Monday or Tuesday. I'll keep in mind to make a vid for you, I'll try and show you a bit how to disassembly and replace housing. I don't change the whole thing though... so I only change the faceplate/battery cover. Changing the middle requires too much work ;p So if you're ok with that then yeah, I'll make a vid once the housing arrives

Cool thanks =] I was contemplating changing the middle but as you say it appears looking at the service manual that it's quite a job although I think I'd prefer the silver middle matching the colour of the buttons
Just out of curiosity where did you get your housing from? I emailed a couple of sellers on eBay however got very little in the way of a reply and when I did it was:
"Fascia fits Magic G2 blah blah blah *more broken english here*"
so I just took a chance and ordered the cheapest from Hong Kong (think it was about £7.00)
Seeing as how you just bought one from Hong kong for that price, I'm pretty sure you got the wrong housing Where is your microphone slot? Mines on the right, I have a 32A. I'm pretty sure 32B is on the left, you have to be careful with which housing to order. Hopefully it matches with your phone! There aren't that many housings out there that have the left microphone hole. My middle part is already silver (fortunately!) so that's why I kept that. I bought my housing for $11 US but I'm not sure of the quality yet. It should be here by monday hopefully, I'd like put it on!
Also, you should check if the housings have like ummm these gold rings or w/e you call them, It's on the back of the faceplate. The faceplate requires them to place your screws in it. I've ordered one in the past and they didn't have that. You can take yours out and put it in the other faceplate but its not toooo easy.
To be honest, if you wanna change the middle, unless someone makes a video to help! Or you've got experience in this area (I didn't, first phone I've taken apart haha) I suggest you take it to a shop or something and have them do it for you. Looks like quite a bit of work with the middle section, but it's not impossible

Is the microphone the small hole with the smiley face next to the microUSB slot?
if so then both the housing and the phone match up I waspretty sure they would as it's advatised on eBay.co.uk and was stated as being for HTC Magic G2 rather then for MyTouch3G or Sapphire
http://bit.ly/aZa0Hb
I've read about those gold ring bit's and I'm unsure if there included but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough
Thanks for your help

If anyone here is replacing their case, could you comment in the above thread about what version Magic you have and what type of digitizer?

Interesting so a type 1 digitizer has a chip which is diagonal and the type 2 chip is square? seems easy enough I will post once I get my case in the post
hopefully it's simple and 32a devices have a type 1 and 32b devices a type 2, however that all seems far too easy
Thanks for a link to the vid as well
Following that vid link is hard hahaha, and oops, I guess its only the mytouch that have the microphone hole on the other side. Well you're good to go! Only 1 or two more days before it arrives, I hope. I ordered from the same person you did. Lets hope they give us everything we need haha
Just got back from college to find a 'Sorry we missed you!' card from royal mail which can't be anything other then my housing off of ebay (Don't get post very often and it's the only thing I've ordered recently that might not fit through the letter box) very fast shipping! only ordered it a week ago
I'll be picking it up tomorrow
Lucky, I'm still waiting for mine. It should've been here on Monday and now it's wednesday. I hope it's here tomorrow =/
Sorry to hear that
Sorry to hear that, well mine on first inspection appears to have everything needed including those gold bits on the back of the faceplate
Done mine now only problem is that there's no vibrate

I've fired off a quick email to the seller maybe that can shed some light on the problem (fingers crossed)
I have fitted the case I received (very fast postage may I add! =]) however the vibrate feature of the phone no longer works... I have checked the phone many times and have discovered that leaving the case partially open resolves the problem however unpractical that solution may be xD
I notice that you have allot of good feedback for this product from customers within the UK so I can only assume that the housing I received must be defective in some way.
I look forward to your reply,

I found some OEM faceplates with "tmobile" brand and mytouch logo they have the microphones on the right also. can I just drill a small hole on the left? or is the housing itself incompatible?

I don't think Tmo will be sending you a replacement since you got it through CL. I'd suggest calling up HTC directly and seeing if they can help you.
I've come to believe there is no hinge issue. Yes, I've been brainwashed.
I doubt tmo is going to replace a phone bought from cl, this is a risk you take when buying this way. The hinges on mine do the "auto open/close" thing too but in the month I have had it it has not been an issue. The hinge itself is strong just not spring loaded.... non issue.
Spotty service you can do 1 kof 2 things, 1 temp root and do the manup themed rom I found it more stable or 2 do the ota update I did both and the update is better for service....

I am on my second G2.. and I can confirm that this second has a much crappier hinge. The hinge on my first phone would spring open or closed. This new one doesnt snap into place like the first one. I will be sending mine back. Not sure if I am going to get a new G2 or a mytouch.
I bought a motorola cliq on craigslist 2 months after the person had purchased it. But it still had the 1 year manufacture warranty from first purchase date. I dont know if the border will be an issue but the purchase will not be an issue. They have the record from the IMEI number.

You should try getting the mannual update link on this forum. I did it yesterday, and since, I have not had any reboots, nor freezing that require battery pull. Signal strength is much better, being that I barely get signal at my desk, and now I can actually hold a conversation. Also, battery life seems to have improved a bit...where I was getting maybe 40% by Noon, it's 4:00 PM as I am writting this and I have 32% left.....

I have an issues...I have never been able to be hypnotized.....much less brain washed....my hinges still suck!!!!!
I just purchased the thin plastic rubberized cover for the phone (I think you have the same one) bcs the OEM T-Mo gel is very heavy...I think that had something to do with making the hinge problem worst.
It's really not a non-issue, except for the fact that I paid $250 for this phone plus hipping and taxes and I really find the hinge to be a POS...and not really acceptable at those prices. Now with that said, It really annoys me when I walk I can actually hear the phone "slapping" as I take strides....that really gets under my skin!!!
T-Mo will not stand by the product as defective, that pisses me off even more...they know that they sold a defective product and now are calling it a design feature.... I wonder what would have happened if Toyota said that about their break issue.....lol!

Couldn't have said this better, kudos to you, man the hinges are defective! Seriously I can't believe the people who agree that its a feature lmao, yea let toyota said the break issue was a feature too, only imagine... lmaoooo. But its just a phone who cares right let people pay their money and that's it, yea iight I want this hinge issue solve by htc or tmo I'm sending it back htc so they can put stronger magnets on the device. In case y'all didn't know someone found weak magnets on the G2 with a paper clip I think on the sides of the keyboard I read this on a tmo forum like three people found the magnets. Well I guess ima send their piece if ****ty hinge G2 for a fix and they better put stronger magnets
Tmo has been a total disappointment on this device for me. Can't believe they're trying to be like apple with the iphone 4 as they refused to admit it was a design defect/flaw and the phone just wasn't been hold the right way lmaoooo. Things like mass production of defective device can happen guys just because the majority of G2 got this problem doesn't mean it was ment to be like this. Look at toyota, do you think the break issue was a feature?
That's cool that's a lovely feature a car that has a not always functional break, yea and they targeted for crazy people if a normal people buys it and they don't like our new feature they can return their car. Its the spontanious break feature, your breaks may not work at times and at times it will, enjoy our new feature it is targeted for people who love to die

No kidding.....I sent back my first phone for two reasons....the hinge was absolutely loose, and multiple freezes a day, with at least one batt pull a day!
They sent me a second phone....I really tried to deal with the issues, but I called (Day 14th), they told me that my Buyers remorse period had already ended, that there was nothing they could do about the hinges nor the reboots!!!! I received my phone on Oct 15th, on the 29th I called to have it replaced. They told me that the 14th day had been the 28th, bcs they count the delivery date as the first day....I pretty much lost it at that point and told the gal that she was full $#it!!!! I told her that it was like saying that the day a bay is born, they are already a day old!!!!
I am certainly beginning to doubt TMO claim for #1 on customer service....I seem to the same lame service I had with ATT when I left them 10Yrs ago!...i guess not sucking like ATT is the new definition of great cust serv....shish!!!

Wow how does the delivery day count as day one SMFH you still was on your remorse period is just been 14 days since you got the device they are so full of it, if this was to happen to me all I would've lost it even worst than you did
All I can say is
1.they really messed up badly on this device: hinges are crap, nothing they can do about that for those who already have the crappy hinges but exchange for crappier or better hinges
2. They're trying to cover their **** up by brainwashing people to believe the hinges are built that way, I feel bad for those who were brainwashed.
3. Tmo badly fail to explain the storage to people before they realese the phone. It does have a 4gb internal mem but the thing is due to froyo the memory has a limit for downloading apps, mytouch 4g and galaxy s phones are also showing the 1.15 gb available mem even tho they obviously come with much more. Damn was that really hard to explain before the device launch! But they better learn from this.
4. This phone probably has the most exchanges and returns in tmo history. And the saddest part is that is only due to the hinges, for the most part and for the storage, some people were very angry at this I could tell from visiting numerous forums regarding the storage. I really didn't care much for storage tho I knew there mustve been an explanation for this and there was, some one took the device apart and found the mem to be a 4gb.
5. Could've they avoid this? Yes maybe if they explain storage, and made sure device was better built on hinges they wouldn't be experiencing these issues. Some even found magnets on the device on the sides of the keyboard, this means that they used the wrong magnets.

I think this hinge issue is crazy, I mean yea what a great feature so it was basically made so it opens easily LOL I makes me imagine tmo making cars and me buying a car that has loose doors that would open on a turn lmao, and the excuse for that would be: this is a brand new feature that will allow you to open your car door easier than ever, no need to sturggle opening your door just barely pull the handle and it'll smoothly open lmfao, I only laugh at the people who believe tmo on this. That's a lovely feature

thanks for the responses guys, the seller agreed to refund me the money. I'm wondering if I should get another g2 after seeing all these complains
To everybody including PandaBanana I agree there's a hinge issue. Except in my case probably not that serious. I don't hold my phone upside down and when I do to show people the problem it barely hangs down as much as other people. Its unfortunate but I would rather this then the phone be even more bulkier if they would've went with a regular slider mechanism. Especially since I was an original iphone user I can say I'm mostly satisfied. Battery and the android keyboard is my only concerns. I like the hacker friendliness with the OS and I must say besides the hinges which is not bad on mine I'm really satisfied with the build quality. If anybody doesn't believe me about the hinge problems I can take pics and show y'all.

You mean you hinges are tight and they don't pop open when they're held upsidedown?....
Lucky Guy...........
Regarding the spring thing. Is there really some visible spring in sight?
Total Fail.
While the G2 is snappy and fun to play with, it's a piece of crap. The amount of problems that people are having with hardware and software is just ridiculous.
If you're thinking of upgrading to the G2, don't so it!
I went back to my Nexus One and couldn't be happier.
Screw you TMobile and your weak-hinged, missing-memory, daily-crashing, dead-pixel piece of crap phone!
I think it's HTC, it's not all T-Mobile's fault. After all this phone is marketed as the desire z in europe. What a shame this phone is in my opinion. I will be selling it soon. Such a great build quality: brushed aluminum with silicon coated plastic, but with loose, wobbly hinges. I find using the hardware keyboard too uncomfortable for daily use because of the hinges. I'll continue my wait for the perfect android phone. Or perhaps if the iphone does come to t mobile, I'll settle for it.

LOL too bad you got a dud but the truth the G2 is a successful phone and another win for HTC. What are you basing this speculation on? I doubt very much that the return rate is above what to be expected for a new smart phone. Here's advice for androidfeen809 - get an iPhone - no hinge problem!
Hi,
I just received a DHD on Orange UK, and it has the sim card cover not fitting properly problem that I have read about on here, ie it sits high at the middle.
Has anyone received a DHD from Orange that DIDN'T have this problem? I am just trying to decide whether its worth returning it or whether they're all going to be like this anyway...
Cheers.
My DHD was from orange, the sim card cover dosent fit proply either, but i dont notice as my DHD is usually in its otterbox.

DHD originally branded on Orange UK, complete with logo on sim card cover, not exactly sure what you mean, mine appears to fit fine. I were you, I'd look into buying an unbranded cover to get rid of that unsightly logo.
I had the same problem but there is a fix
Look very carefully at the cover.
You will see a bit that sticks out that fits next to the sim card.
This peice is L shaped and should fit into a similar L shaped peice on the phone.
However when I first fitted my cover I didnt line it up properly and bent the end of the L shaped peice on the cover over. This prevents the peices from locking together and makes the cover stick up.
If you very carefully bend the L shaped bit on the cover back into shape you can get the cover to fit correctly. It wont be bent by very much but if the cover cant fit together it wont fit right.
I wish I had taken soem photos but now I have the thing fixed you cant easily see what I did to fix it.
If one of you guys can take a photo of the cover I can point out the place to check if you cant work it out.
i contacted HTC and said i broke mine, and they sent me two new unbranded sim covers yaay

Did you just contact them via e-mail? I'm not too worried about it's flimsiness, it's just that it doesn't fit right to the sides of the phone, has a good 1-2mm step

Ah no it doesn't have the usual step above the sim card, it's actually on the side of the phone, hard to explain lol. The edge of the sim card cover is not flush with the edge of the rest of the phone.
Hi, if it's from UK Orange, just call them up and get them to sent you a new one. I've had three HTC Desire HD sent from Orange, and not one had any problems with fitting the similar cover.
PS: the reason that I've had three handsets from Orange is because the replaced them, apparently each one was faulty.
