Who bought a MT3G and Feels They Were Jipped? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Who here feels that they were ripped off now that a new MyTouch 3G with these better specs is out? From what I've read, this phone is exactly the same as the regular MT3G, but with a better specs. To be honest, I'm just venting anger, but I'd still like to know how other MT3G owners feel.

Yeah somewhat. It's something they should've offered from the beginning with regards to RAM. The 3.5mm jack I don't care for too much since I use my ipod for music. The virtual keyboard also drives me crazy sometimes, which is why I - at first - thought I should've gone with the G1 but now I am holding off for the Motorola Shadow if it even exists and if it even will come to T-Mobile, let alone the US.
Or at least a high end qwerty android phone. The N1 looks tempting though...

I might be getting the N1 after my T-Mobile contract ends, but then again that's going to be a few months, so I'll wait to see what better phones come out.

I wish HTC made only one HTC Magic/MT3G and that was the 32A board. I don't care about the 3.5 mm jack but the extra RAM is what made me mad.
Damn you HTC for making a 32B board Magic/MT3G and damn you t-mobile for being cheap and getting the 32B board version

I don't since I just returned my Mytouch for the new version. Loving the 3.5mm Jack, and it feels much snappier. Now I have to wait for Cyanogen Mod to be compatible with the phone.

C0dy, were you within the 14-day buyer's remorse period or were you able to swap your old mytouch for the new one without any problems?

i just received my, mt3g yesterday and its the older version and i love it. i had the g1 since june and this is so much better.

Have you heard of the HTC Scorpion? That phone is a rumor right now but so far the rumors said that it has a 1.5 ghz processor and maybe running android 2.2 (I highly think that it will be android 2.1) and the best part......IT HAS A HARD QWERTY KEYBOARD!!!!
Hope this phone is true and is coming to t-mobile.

I was in the buyers remorse 14 day return.

I wouldn't say I feel jipped, but I am slightly disappointed. When I bought the mt3g, I didn't realize there was a difference between them, and assumed it was virtually the same as the others.
After learning about the RAM deficit, I was frustrated, but this is somewhat normal with techie devices. No matter what you buy, something will show up that's better/faster/stronger/etc. Had I known the fender edition was slated to be released, i might have held off for the few months (dunno if I could have held off 4 months, though). Ignoring the 32A/32B difference, it would have simply been for the 16g card and 3.5mm jack.
I still think it's a superior phone to the G1 and my 2g iPhone, and I still love the mt3g, despite it's faults. I don't think I've been this satisfied with a phone in years.

I'm going with Nokia for now on. i seen an E90 a few YEARS ago. (actually 2.... lucky bastards cost like 1 grand) literally like 2 or 3 years ago and i owned android then. The only thing android really has on it is how pretty it looks.

Technology is changing so fast that manufactures are putting out more phone quicker then they use to it the past.
I have been waiting to get a hold of the HD2, guess what if I get it, there is already a quicker phone in the works already to replace that.
The MT3G is good stuff but I'm over it and require something quicker now

Well I'm complaining because they're already releasing another android phone that is exactly the same as the old MT3G, but with better specs.
I know there's been other phones like this, for example Blackberries, but I'm sure there would have been leaked information about the upcoming upgraded phone.
As far as I knew there was going to be a Fender version released, but since I wasn't really fond of the look I decided to just get the white one, little did I know, T-Mobile would be announcing the release of a better MT3G, with the original colors, days after the Fender version was released. If I knew about the enhanced MT3G months before, I wouldn't have bought the one I have now.

Well, if T-Mobile were to announce a possible better MT3G is coming 6 months from now, that would just be poor marketing. They would not have sold any of the originals. NO one would do that. The fact is, T-Mobile sold you the best, most advanced Android phone available at the time they released it. Complaining about an upgraded version 6+ months later seems, well, just childesh. EVERY phone EVER sold will be out done within 6 months! I'm sorry, I'm not trying to bash, but its like buying a laptop with top of the line everything and then the company releases the same laptop with faster processor, more ram, blu-ray, better vid card 6 months later at the same price and being mad about it, which happens all the time. Its just how it is with technology. 6 months from now T-Mobile will probably release a new Android phone that puts the new MT3G to shame at the same price.

Not really. There has always been a 32A and 32B since the beginning. Didn't Rogers released the 32A in Canada at around the same time that t-Mobile released the first MyTouch? T-Mobile decided to go the 32B route. Don't know why. Maybe it was cheaper. I don't know if the 32A was the most advance phone at that time, but it certainly has more Ram than the 32B.
Actually I don't even know why HTC decided to do the 32B, short of it being cheaper for the carriers to buy.

Oh, I'll rephrase, it was the most advanced Android phone sold in the USA. As for why T-Mobile, and various other carries around the world, got the 32B board instead is beyond me. Could have been origional production boards and when HTC started messing with roms they decided they needed more RAM. T-Mobile kept what they had so they would not delay release of it. That would be my assumption. Lastly, T-Mobile released before anyone else. I think by only a month, but they did.

But still, most Android phones, or phones in general have leaked information all over, and there are those that slip right underneath us. The only leaked information I remember about the enhanced MT3G, with the original colors, is the eBay auction it had a week or two before T-Mobile posted up the phone on their website. I would've at least liked the hinting that a better MT3G was coming out, just to build up hype, like Verizon with the Droid.

Ditto. That's t-mobile for you. However, from what I hear, no one can get a fender to get r00ted. I always seem to hear that they can get touch screen working. On top of that, I don't think most devs are going to pay close attention to r00t them. I'm sure they're working on fixing the touch screen issue, but as a secondary project.

Dream Discontinued?

For about a Month now, I've been told by the manager of my local T-Mobile UK store that he will give me a USB to 3.5mm converter for free (the one that came in the box) because mine was broke.
And for about a Month now, they've had no stock of G1s not just in this store but in every store in Birmingham and therefore unable to give me one. The manager told me the G1 was at the end of its cycle and soon to be discontinued.
Anyway, they STILL don't have any G1s in. Furthermore today I noticed that HTC have removed the Dream from their Product Page on the website.
Looks like it has been discontinued and will be replaced by the Mytouch 3G in America (I don't get the press' big obsession with this phone, it's all I read about lately yet it's been available on vodafone here for months?) and the G1 Touch (Hero) in the UK.
IT's a shame, I would have liked them to run both handsets at the same time tbh.

Dream is not being discontinued, it may simply be being dropped by tmobile. tmobile are douchebags anyways -- they shouldn't be debranding the phones since it misleads the feeble-minded into believing that they are the hardware manufacturer and it also makes it more difficult to track products. The Dream has very recently been picked up by rogers in Canada (only one month ago), so it is nowhere near the end of its life.

Precisely. Its at the end of the TMO lifespan. They really wanted the G1 to suck in subscribers and get a feel for Android's popularity. Now that the buzz has shifted towards other devices coupled with the expiration of the exclusivity agreement, TMO feels that it would be better off putting efforts on new/different devices. Business as usual.

This is exzatly why I want a iphone... G1, mytouch, hero, all this ****, they make a phone good going for a serveral months, then just drop it like that..

perhaps tmo uk is dropping the g1, i'm not sure. however, tmo us is NOT dropping the g1, nor planning on doing so anytime soon.

Correct. The current T-Mo US roadmap has the G1 being discontinued sometime in October 2009, and that assumes they have another Android phone with a keyboard to replace it on schedule, otherwise they'll hold off longer.
It's only been out a little over 8 months, talk of discontinuation is way premature.

Ive notice that Optus in Australia (one and only dream provider here) have taken the Dream off their website too.
Seems like the dream is dead.
Apparently the Hero is coming soon to Australia too (carrier unknown) so android australia might pick up.

The G1 has been available for just over a year, even if it's dropped it will have had the same lifespan as every iPhone revision.

almost every phone and every carrier is like that including the iphone, they are on the shelves for about a year then they are removed for the newer ones. if a Tmobile store had the same phones they did last year no one would have any reason to walk in the store except to pay their bill.

then get an iphone.. iphone only last about 1 yr anyways..
but ANYWAYS.. the g1 was just a prototype and used as a marketing device for android...
IMO i am starting to hate the g1 due to the lack of RAM...
i used taskpanel x to see how much free ram
g1: average 40-high 50s mb of RAM which is quickly used up for hero rom users

HTC still has the Dream on their US site. Rogers Canada still presses it and the Magic as 2 of their killer smartphones. The G1 isn't dead yet. Maybe to T-Mobile but the rest of the world still has faith. I completely believe it will be dead by next June (1 year after Rogers release) but it still has some life in it yet.

who cares if the G1 dies or not. the G1 was the rooting god and or savorer of this android community. it made the current roms, apks, themes and what not. it will never die, its just advanced to the current use and ideals of what the future holds. let them(who ever makes material of the consumers) make as many android devices as they want!! it would be great for a better product that can handle "OUR" speed and development. i personally still own a G1 and have my mytouch(now google ION) in hand and love them both as my babies. so i further state that if the production of G1 is dead then ok, I got mine. If not then eh, what more can you do to it that all the super dev's havent already??

The G1 has HTC printed on the left edge of the screen (or on the bottom if you are holding the phone is landscape view) I know that they have done debranded in the past but how is this debranding?

It still says T-mobile on the front, and that doesn't go for UK Dreams, they don't say HTC on the side. HTC isn't an instantly recognizable name to average joe, unlike Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericcson ect, so if they see T-Mobile on the front they'll probably think they manufacture it.

They're also picking up in the UK, having the Diamond, Touch Pro, HD, HD2 and Hero released with "HTC" on them has helped.
The reason why they're not easily recognisable is because they've spent too long developing phones and let other companies (mostly network providers) rebrand them, o2 XDA's Orange SPVs T-Mobile MDAs etc etc.

I havent done much research on the N2 so Im not sure what to expect. But Im just curious, what device would you upgrade to in the near future. If the N2 isnt up to par ( i will wait till it is available to decide ) i would prob just wait till something great came out. The G2 looks great, but not spectacular. As far as Im concerned, the N1 is still a beast among the Androids....maybe Ill keep the N1 and get a Galaxy Tab

I personally just got the nexus a few weeks ago. I paid $450 brand new in box.
Tossled with the idea of selling it, and also had a buyer, but I decided to keep it. For someone like me, its a great starter phone to learn android on without the worry of bricking it (done that with the jasjar in the past) and I think its slim as hell.
I'd wait for something thats as slim, and maybe even that foldable Amoled screen in the Samsung video (just kidding).
When I do upgrade to a thin Samsung I will still keep the Nexy. Even if it means saving up longer for a $480 phone. The nexus is just a collectors piece for a techie like me that I'd like to keep framed someday, in a display case. even if it won't be worth anything in my lifetime.

ATT unlimited data plan + free wifi hotspot and tethering= no brainer.
The build quality is the sugar on top.
and just for the sake of arguing, let's say the Nexus S comes out available on ATT: I can guarantee it will be without the hotspot and tethering options. That was added to the N1 after the fact via OS upgrade. No way ATT will ever allow that again, imo. Not for free the way it is now.
Being compatible with ATT 3G and having free hotspot and tethering is a once in a lifetime thing. I'm going to get me the wifi only Galaxy tab and use it ANYWHERE I want via N1 wifi hotspot...imagine THAT!

I asked about this before saying that if the Nexus S is sold at T-Mobile/Att stores then they are going to have the IMEI #s and will block the phones from using web-2-go type of dumbphone data plans (the best feature of the N1) and also might have some control over OS features like tethering?
One guy on here said that the Nexus S might be sold through BestBuy / Walmart / RadioShack instead of T-mobile / Att stores and might bypass the carriers again like the original N1 did so that T-Mobile/Att wont have any say on what the phone can or can't do.
Here's hoping the NexusS never EVER is sold at a T-Mobile/Att store

yeah I'm running one but that is not the same as it coming stock, which is what one has to assume, since not everyone will be willing or able to root.
But since you need it spelled out: free wifi hotspot and free tethering coming STOCK is a once in a lifetime thing.

With the way ATT is clamping down on data(no more unlimited data for new customers) I would be shocked if another device is ever ATT compatible and also contain free hotspot and tethering, no-matter where it is sold. If I'm wrong, I might get the NS given the dual core processor. That MIGHT be enough for me to overlook the build quality. I certainly agree with you regarding not selling the NS thru ATT/tmobile stores. Fudge them.

I'd also like to wait and see the battery life under the new dual processor phones before plunging into them.
I think someone made a worthy mention in another thread: phone technology is advancing, but is battery technology advancing too?

Processors are also getting much more energy efficient, plus having a fast CPU without any CPU intensive apps (most apps would run fine on a single core 100-200MHz CPU) makes it more efficient in itself.
Edit: TBH, the Nexus S is really the only "must have" phone. If it has the Orion chip it'll compete with everything else through early 2012. You might seem some advancements in camera performance, maybe more RAM/ROM, but spec-wise, what else would there be to improve upon? Then there's the fact that all other flagship phones will be running Touchwiz/Sense/etc. and will be at the mercy of the OEMs/Carriers to receive future support/updates.

The Nexus is a great phone, but I want HSPA+ so I'd have to say pick up a G2 on Craigslist. They are under $400.00 already and dropping.
If you've had your Nexus a while and are just itching for something different thats what I'd get.
I mean if Nexus S is HSPA+ I will be getting one, if not then probably a G2.

If we get a Samsung built unbranded google phone with an Orion processor it'll be the nexus successor hands down, it'll have the best internals and be completely shrouded in controversy just like the N1. Either way if the Orion is there I'm buying it.

Better touch screen, better 3G radio performance/location (maybe even dual radios like I think it's Nokia that does it). Better headjack (recessed headjack = dumb idea, it failed miserably on the first iPhone for a reason). Better gaming performance (which would come as part of the Orion Processor).
I love my N1, but it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination.

[Q] Should I upgrade now?

Hey guys, this is my first post on these forums.
Lately, I have been trying to figure out if I should upgrade to the Atrix now, or wait until the iPhone 5 comes out. Right now I have an iPhone 3GS. Android in general has been intriguing me. I've had an iPhone since it first came out, and have said since that I could never imagine using any other type of phone, but right now I think I'd welcome the change. I just don't know if I should upgrade now or not.
Obviously, the next iPhone will have the dual-core A5 processor, possibly 4G, a bigger screen, and a better camera. It just comes down to OS.
AT&T is the worst carrier of Android phones. But the Atrix looks really good. It hits that sweet spot of screen size and it won't look like I'm holding a brick to my face every time I make a phone call.
If I were to get the Atrix I'd root it and put Gingerblur on it. I love stock Android. If the LG G2X was on AT&T I'd jump right on it. That phone looks beautiful.
I just need help deciding if I should either:
1) Upgrade soon and get the Atrix.
2) Wait for the iPhone 5.
3) Wait for an even better Android phone to be released on AT&T.
My requirements for upgrading are for it to have 4G and probably not a Samsung device, because I've heard they take the longest to upgrade. Like I said, I love stock Android, but I also like HTC Sense and my least favorite is Motoblur. However I don't find this as much of an issue since it can be changed using Gingerblur.
Any opinions would be appreciated, especially from iPhone converts.

I got a IPhone 4g from bell, was 149.99 at BestBuy (canada)
Jailbroke it, Played around with the camera/pictures. Even though its jail broken it still has limitations
Got BORING fast...Two days after the purchase I returned it and picked up an atrix.
This thing is not fully cracked open yet (development with the bootloader.)
Atrix > Iphone
Atrix has a bigger and better community I find compare to Itouch/Iphone websites. Once this bootloader is cracked open. It’s going to be pouring on these forums of New Apps and hardware tweaks etc.

IPhone 5g WILL be more secure than the IPad 2 and the IPhone 4g 4.3.1 update.
Causing jailbreaking harder to accomplish.

I used to jailbreak but haven't done it in a long time. Too much hassle. I always get worried about freezing my phone and then spending hours restoring and getting everything back into place.
Android not even being rooted is more open than iOS.
By the way, I have the unlimited data plan on my iPhone. If I get the Atrix, can I keep it?

Yes, you can keep your unlimited data. Don't let any salespeople tell you anything else. And no special 4g data plan crap.

for you i would think you should get an inspire just because
1) it has sense
2)it has a slight ios feel so their won't be a huge learning curve
3)can load custom ROM'S so it is more future-proof
4)has a WAY BETTER camera
5)battery life isn't to bad if you use a good kernel
6)has better support than the atrix
those are the reasons i think that you would like the inspire and are also the reasons i want an inspire instead of the atrix except #2 because after using android im never going back to ios

Well, two things. If I get the unlimited data, can I also get the 200 text for $5? Or will I only be able to get the 1000 text for $10?
And I don't really want the Inspire because it's just too big, and I know it's silly, but I want a device with a dual-core processor.

I was pretty much in your situation a few weeks ago. I was coming from an iPhone 3G and decided to go with the Atrix. I checked out all the new phones, and the Atrix was the best option.
In my opinion this is a really nice, quality phone. Now that I have had it for a week or so, I can definitely say I am glad I made the switch to Android. While it does take a little getting used to, it is just sooo nice being able to have some actual control. One thing I will say though, is that Motoblur is pretty terrible. It sounds like you already plan on taking care of that though if you get the phone.
My advice would be to grab an Atrix from Amazon Wireless for $99, you won't be disappointed. The iOS is just so boring in comparison, and I doubt that whatever the iPhone 5 uses will be much of a departure from what it is currently running.
Edit: I saw somewhere that Best Buy was having a sale for $29.99, in case that may sway your decision one way or the other.

Amazon only has it for $149. Bestbuy has it for $29 only for new customers, but I can get it for $99 from them.

I have the Captivate since day 1. I have been saving my upgrade for an awesome Android phone, like SGS2 or Infuse. The issue there is that there is no exact release date yet and I'm freaking tired of waiting cause this Captivate is crap now!
This is what I did tonight.....I saw Best Buy has the Atrix on sale and I think the Inspire is still on sale, not sure. I asked if I would lose my unlimited data and if I would be charged any restocking fee if I return the phone within the 30 days. They answered NO for both. So I immediately bought the Atrix! Now I have a brand new phone for 30 days while I wait for any updates on the SGS2 and Infuse lol

Both the Infuse and the SGS2 are just too big. The biggest things holding me back from the Atrix is Motoblur and the camera.
Since you upgraded and kept your unlimited data, what text messaging plan do you have? My dad only wants to upgrade as long as he doesnt have to spend more on the bill, so I'd prefer if it stayed at $35.

You dont have to change anything on your current plan. I asked the rep at best buy and he told me everything will remain exactly as I had it. He only had to change a code on my unlimited data cause of the 4G. I have the unlimited text for family cause I have a family plan. I've always had unlimited text though even when I had my own individual account. It's a good thing to have the unlimited texting plan because it includes unlimited calling to ANY mobile (not sure if you knew that). So that allowed me to lower my minutes plan and save money in the process lol

I'm on a family plan as well. I'd love unlimited texting however I've been managing to live with 200 texts a month. I'll mention that to my dad. He's always looking on ways to save money.

I think I'm going to wait until the Galaxy S II or the iPhone 5.

I suspect that it will be the 9020A that is currently being shipped in Canada.
@Skillz1318: Probably not. It's been my experience that warranties don't carry across the border, even if it's the same product. I'm suspecting that the IMEI's will be registered to a specific country and will only be serviced inside of that country.

Any idea att version work on att media net plan? I will be willing to upgrade to smartphone plan if i getting better speed. I know the phone is only hsdpa. maybe it will get better speed then my n1.

I'm due for an upgrade on July 26th for AT&T, should I jump on this or wait out for the Galaxy S II, I'm leaving for college mid August, and I'd like a new phone before then. I feel that I'd appreciate a 4" screen more than a 4.3", also this phone seems to be more proven than the Galaxy S II (I've learned my lesson from early adoption). The real question is, does the dual core matter for everyday use. I won't play very many games on it, mainly just browsing, gapps, phone use, etc?

In the same boat as you, friend ... although I'm just a 31 yo tech junkie and have been waiting for months to see a phone worthy if replacing my minuscule AT&T Aria which anything would be better.
I read that only Bestbuy and maybe Costco (the Atrix replacement memo) would be selling on Sunday but in 30 days when gs2 finally launches would it be possible to return the nexus s for the s2 and still get the subsidized price (assuming the Attain is sold there).

yes, you are correct.
a few years ago i had an s/e asia variant of a moto phone sold in usa. ZERO moto support as phone's software, tracked via IMEI, was not 'regionalized' for usa.

how is your GPS performance? I have an unlocked 9020a and the GPS is terrible on it.
Works fine if you are walking outside, but if you're in a moving car, it struggles to keep a lock.
As for your speed, I'm getting similar (sometimes higher) speeds on the download side but about triple on the upload side. The radio may be capped for uploads.
Also, i'm on the KB3 radio from the radio thread in the dev forum.
Any way we can get this radio dumped?

I've started noticing a pattern to the search button problem. For me it rarely happens. I noticed it happening on 2 different occasions when I was in a transitional area that had little to no signal. Someone on here had mentioned that it had to do with the radio that was flashed and when I had the original radio that came with the device (for the first day I had it) it was going crazy all the time.
Once I flashed to KB3, it all but went away except for the 2 occasions that I mentioned above.
I'm interested to see what (if any?) changes were made with the AUCKE1 radio. I wonder how long it will be before someone dumps it.

they need to get their heads out of their asses and start supporting products period. you don't see hard drive manufacturers asking which country your hard drive is in. you send it in for RMA. same with any computer component.
phone manufacturers make this seem like the stone age. if you made my datacenter customers work this hard to return hard drives i think they'd dump you in a heartbeat Samsung.

What is the BEST ALL AROUND PHONE on ANY network?

I am COMPLETELY fed up with SPRINT and their HORRIBLE customer Service.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED my rooted EVO, but it broke.. I was forced to get an Insurance phone, and i Lost my root. The ONLINE Sprint REP told me he would waive my $100 fee, But when i went into a brick and mortar Sprint store, The rep told me that no REP would ever say that, They have never done that and never will waive an insurance fee and that he has NO way of checking that. I told him that the online rep told me that he will post it on my account so that and REP could see it and he said that basically i'm lying and that never happened. So i was sent the insurance phone, i had it for 48 hours and the screen died. I could still turn the phone on, it would still ring and i could still answer by knowing where to touch from memory, but the screen was just black. I took it in, they argued to that i would need to pay anotehr $100 for a new phone for an hour before giving me what they said was a 'brand new' EVO.. Well i've had it for 2 days.. I put in on the charger for 8 hours yesterday, took it off and 45 minutes later my phone was dead. I put it back on the charger last night.. When i woke up this morning, it wont charge or turn on. and they're telling me yet again, I would need to pay another $100 to get a new phone. This is absurd and ridiculous and I HATE SPRINT AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Anyway, I'm going to leave sprint, So if you could have ANY PHONE, from ANY Network
Which phone would you choose? I HATE slide out keyboards, so one of those is not an option.

You don't have to pay the $100 again if the phone came defective, the insurance offers a warranty to all phones I believe is 1 or 3 months. The only way you would have to pay the $100 again is if you broke the replacement or lost it.
Also when you get your new phone try to calibrate the battery, Charge and discharge around 3 times so you break it in.
As for the best phone, you won't find your answer here since most of us including myself are biased towards the evo.

Are you still biased towards the EVO even though you cannot root it? Would you rather not have an HTC Inspire that's indentical to the EVO but can be rooted? Or an HTC Thunderburd? or even an HTC EVO 3D? How can you say you'd rather have an unrooted EVO over any of those phones? I'm asking for the BEST phone available, the EVO has been out over a year, there are plenty of better phones that have came out.. Rates don't matter if you can't get a working phone, or a phone that allows you to do what you want.. I've been running MIUI for months, so to go back to SENSE make me feel like my insurance replacement was a downgrade.. Why pay for insurance if you can't be given the same phone that you purcahsed, I didn't purcahse a 2.3 Gingerbread EVO i purchased a 2.2 FROYO EVO that allowed me complete customization, not a 2.3 EVO that is locked boring a bland and i cannot customize whatsoever, and to give me 2 EVO's within 1 week that break is bull****, Plus the insurance one came with a screen cover, and when i had to get it repalced, the store REFUSED to give me another screen cover for the new phone, just refused! What bull****, they probably have 1000s of them, mark it down as making the customer happy for gods sake, why would you be that cheap an upset a customer after all the hassle he's had to go through.. Ridiculous, No store should ever treat customers like that if they expect to keep them.

Then leave, the evo can do 99% of the things other phones on the market do. Sure there are dual core phones but that's all just hype since there are a few apps optimized for them.
If you just plain hate the evo because of root, the only phone I would suggest is the 3d since the motorola photon is locked and the Nexus has radio problems.
Just remember that when you switch carriers...
You will pay more.
You won't have unlimited data.(I rather be stock forever without root before having a data cap or having my speeds throttled.)
Also to compare, my friends t-mobile G2 had a screen issue, do you know what t-mobile did? they told him its htc's problem not theirs so he had to ship the phone and stay without service for a week.
Even without TEP, the local sprint store I go to services phones that are under the 1 year warranty and sometimes they even replace them without charging a dime.

It's not plain hate for the EVO it's the fact that i've had 3 EVO's in 1 week, and apparently they just keep giving me faulty refurbished phones at my local sprint store, and all the reps on the floor are extremely unknowledable, the one rep didn't even know what froyo was.. I said i asked for a 2.2 Froyo, and he said that phone must be on another network because we dont sell a phone called a froyo. I absolutely loved my EVO which i purchased back in February, LOVED IT! But it stopped being able to receive text messages, and a week later stopped being able to charge which forced me to get a replacement, and now i'll be going back for a 4th replacement this week alone. It's rather frustrating that I've gotten 3 new phones and each time i have to re-download all my apps, i have to re-set up all my accounts and spend hours upon hours setting everything back up, and then 24 hours it's broken, I dont have a phone all day, and i have to make yet another trip to a Sprint Store that has HORRIBLE Service.
And on top of it, I have NO 4G in my area, Youngstown, OH -- I had Verizon for over 10 years and never ever dropped calls.. Now i drop multiple calls a day, I hardly ever have service anywhere i go.. My download speeds are atrocious.. I max out at around 50kb/s downloads -- and that's IF I EVEN get internet service. I'm just fed up with all the trips to sprint, multiple defective phones and the horrible support i've received. I obviously Don't want to have to go buy a new phone, pay more for service, and pay an early cancellation fee unless i was EXTREMELY fed up.. Just getting ridiculous now, I cannot afford to not have a phone for over a week with my job. To wake up this morning and find that my phone wont turn was the last straw.. 3 phones in 1 week is insane.

In my ever so humble opinion, the best phone you could get right now is the iPhone 4. A lot of people will grumble about how it's a walled garden environment and you can't mess around with the OS much (Jailbreaking will only get you so far), but if you're looking for a solid out-of-the-box experience, you would be hard-pressed to find something better.
If you were to go this route, Verizon and AT&T are pretty much equal as far as I can tell, although I hated AT&T's customer service (which is why I am with Sprint now). I loved my iPhone, though, and had great coverage everywhere except at my house. If you're not a heavy data user then the unlimited data really doesn't mean that much; I never went over 5GB on my iPhone, and I used the hell out of that thing.

get ooooooutta here with that bull. The Evo right now is still one of the best phones out there, even though the specs aren't quite on par with some of the newest phones (dual core blah blah blah), you're not gonna find much better. Basically Sprint Evo=Verizon Thunderbolt=AT&T Inspire and i don't know about other carriers. The Galaxy S II is going to be top of the line when it is released, and the only one with a physical keyboard is the AT&T model, so if you don't want sprint, you should go with verizon for that (due out sometime this month). I recently sampled all of the newest android devices from every carrier, and i personally don't think any of the motorola's come even close to matching up with the HTC and Samsung. Samsungs screens are amazing and so are their cameras, but touchwiz is god awful. I'm a huge HTC Sense fan, so i take preference to any HTC phone. The thunderbolt i have heard not too great things about. If i had to pick a phone on a carrier other than sprint, i think i would say the Incredible 2 on verizon or the Galaxy S II on verizon. AT&T service is not too great, but the inspire is really nice, and if you can handle a 4.5 inch screen, the samsung infuse isn't awful. So back to the iPhone fanboy, iPhone 4 will be obsolete within 3 months, when the iPhone 5 comes out, and the iPhone 5 will still not be on par with the new android devices. Apple puts out 1 phone a year from 1 manufacturer, and then sues because they can't keep up with the android phones that are constantly being improved. iPhone=Apple App store and that is it. If all you want is the apps from apples store, go ahead and get an iPhone but if you really want a truly customizable, top-of-the-line phone experience, you'd be an idiot to go with anything but android

Yes a new iPhone is coming out. How you can say that it won't be on par with new Android devices I'm not sure; you must have some secret sources that have fed you the specs for the as-yet announced Apple device. Either that or your psychic.
It's true that Android phones are constantly being released and often with marginal improvements, but what this has created is a fractured environment where apps only work on small groups of phones and other phones are left in the dust. You can't even be sure that your Android phone will get the next OS update when you buy it. Android's hectic release cycle has made fragmentation a serious issue rather than just a buzzword for Apple "fanboys".
When you buy an iPhone you have a pretty good idea that it will be the premier iOS device for at least a year. Apple has been very good at backwards compatibility, so you can easily get two years out of an iPhone with all the latest software updates and features. No Android phone can offer that today.
There are pros and cons to the iPhone and iOS, but what it really comes down to is what you as a user are looking for. The iPhone is a reliable device that provides an exceptional experience as long as you don't want to mess around with the behind-the-scenes pieces of your phone. To say that anyone would be "an idiot" for going with the iPhone is clearly biased and wants to play elitist. I have had both kinds of phones, currently have an Android phone, and I can tell you that if you want to leave Sprint you would not go wrong by seriously considering an iPhone.

As far as rates, You're going to be paying a lot for this service through At&t or Verizon, but it's better than being phoneless.
Also, I would suggest you find a new local store, some stores aren't REAL stores. Go to your nearest corporate store.
Also, anytime you have a conversation with an online rep, your conversation is saved and emailed to you. I don't understand how you couldn't just produce that document to the rep. So, I wouldn't bash on Sprint until you've exhausted all the appropriate options. Also, sprint would most likely reimburse you for the money you spent and the trouble you've had with them.
So far, my experience with Sprint has been great.

The Evo has been out for over a year, and is still on par with the newly released phones, and has the most recent software. You can root it any put any software you like on it, so there goes the two years argument because i guarantee next june the Evo will still be able to run the most recent updates and features, whether through official releases or custom ROMs (which btw you can't run on iOS).
There is absolutely nothing that an iPhone can do that any of the newer (and by newer i mean within a year or so, evo included) android phones cannot. Nothing at all. Look at it the other way, and it's a different story. Custom ROMs, kernels, launchers, widgets, 4G, video chatting over 3G/4G, hardware options: physical keyboards, various screen sizes and phone shapes, features like 8 megapixel cameras, 1080p video recording, 3D video recording, kickstands, battery upgrades, fingerprint scanners, there is just so much more that android has to offer.
If you want to get sucked into apple's mind controlling dictatorship, be my guest, but an educated consumer would research the options and find that while the iPhone does have a lot to offer, android has much, much more, and if you don't want the same generic smartphone experience that comes with every iPhone, then there is just no comparison.
Also to consolidate phone recommendations from before, if you want a phone that is almost the same as the evo but a different carrier, AT&T HTC Inspire. If you want something a little bit smaller but newer and not on AT&T, Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 2. And if you want the newest technology, but no physical keyboard, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S II.
