[Help] Nexus one doesn't work - Nexus One General

Hi, I have purchased from eBay an HTC Nexus One.
I've installed the battery, and the device does not boot(I press the power button and nothing happens), and I can't charge it(I plug the charger in and no reaction).
I'm aware the obvious solution is to send it back and get a new one, but that will take about a month.
Can anyone think of anything I can try in order to make it work? Please, I'm desperate!

y did u buy from ebay, most of them are scammers these days, send back and buy direct from google!
device is busted, not powering up on usb charger or battery,, in my view = DEAD!!

I cannot buy directly from Google because I don't live in the U.S or any other country Google ships to, so my only option is eBay.
So basically you are telling me there is not way to fix the phone? :'(

How long did you charge it?

If you bought from eBay and the item does not work, hopefully you paid with PayPal and the package was insured.
Does the auction listing say the item is working, or that it's being sold AS-IS?
Does the auction say you are bidding on the item shown in the pictures, if there were pictures? Is there a picture with the phone powered on?
What is the feedback of the seller? Have they sold many items around the price you paid, or it's they're feedback mostly from buying items?
Start here:
http://pages.ebay.com/coverage/index.html
Let the system do the work.

did u contact the seller from ebay?was it on ebay buyer protection?
when u plug to the wall there should a very little orange light on the top right of the screen, and it will turn to green when it's ready.

No, Ebay is not the only option.
I also happen to live in a country where Google won't sell the N1, but I followed this guide blog.borderlinx.com/?p=1712 (copy/paste the address - I'm apparently still not verified, so I can't post links).
Connect to the google phone site via a proxy in the U.S. and have it shipped to your borderlinx address. Once they recieve it, you'll be notified and asked to pay for shipping and taxes. Once that is done, your phone will be delivered in 4-6 days.

Hi,
I bought an MDA Pro at eBay and it took me two weeks to get it.
I never tried to win an auction of a "refurbished" one, if the seller wrote that he "never turned it on".
If I have a broken device and get a refurbished one in exchange, why wouldn't I turn the exchanged device on and test it?
My advice to you:
1) Rewrite your text.
2) Limit your auction to EU and write in big letters that you do not ship to Africa, specially to Nigeria, due to all the scammers. This way they probably won't waste time with you.
3) Test your device. Take pictures of it when turned on. Explain all eventual faults, like scratches.
If you give a good description and if you test your device, you will certainly get serious bidders.
Cheers,
vma
Yeah saying you have never turned it on just looks suspicious. You gotta turn it on, try it out, make sure it works, and take working photos of it. Otherwise you will have a hard time selling it. I wouldn't buy based on what you've said.
Cheers, Mitchell
thanks....i have now switched it on and it works fine. your recomendations are greatly appreciated.
Good luck with your sale!

Screen crapped out within a week.

Had my Note for exactly one week when yesterday I woke up, turn on my Note and notice a big green line going down the left side of the screen. The rest of the screen is now very dim and barely readable even with the screen brightness cranked up to the max. Did battery pull, then factory reset with no success. Never dropped the phone, I haven't rooted the phone, the only thing I did to it was apply the OTA update to 2.36 the day I got it. Everything else is stock, so it seems to be a hardware issue.
Got the Note through a 3rd party reseller on Amazon.com. When I called them about it they said I had to go thru Samsung warranty and they will only exchange the item if it was broken the first time I tried to turn it on. So I guess I'm on my own.
Called Samsung warranty and was told that since it was an international phone it is not supported by Samsung USA. So it appears I am SOL.
ExpansysUSA on the other hand has a 15 day return policy for any issues and they will help you deal with warranty after the 15 day window is up.
Needless to say I'm depressed...Any suggestions for a course of action is appreciated.
Thanks everybody.
only thing i can think of is if you can still get a squaretrade warranty. I think you may have to wait 60 days before they'll accept a claim, but it may be a better option than having an expensive paper weight.

Ask the seller where he purchased the phone from, ship your Note to Samsung in the country of origin. If he bought it in HK, send it to samsung in HK.
They won't be able to tell you it's an international purchase, you are allowed to travel the world with your phone and keep your warranty.

I agree. I had a Polish version from hantec. It had about 3 dead pixels with a line going through them (green colour). Called up Samsung UK and they said I had to contact handtec.
IM sure if you call up the skewing branch where your note is from, you can always send it back to them to get a replacement if you have only had the phone for less than 28 days.

I'll ask them about it again today when their customer service lines open. The lady that I talked to yesterday coulldn't tell me where they got it from and said that I should ask Samsung International. Hopefully I get someone a little more capable on the line next time...
In the meantime I initiated a return authorization request thru Amazon yesterday to see if this will motivate the seller to be more cooperatve.
If that doesn't work I guess I can file for a claim next.
Wish me luck...
Wish you all the best.
I heard good things about handtec, but I'm buying a Squaretrade warrenty just incase. Their warranty's only covers up to $600 though. So if they have to replace your phone, they just cut you a check for $600....the warranty cost's $124, so your really only getting $476 back. You can buy displays on ebay already, but I'm not sure how hard they would be to install.
Update:
The Vendor insists I contact Samsung for warranty repair/replacement. Samsung Latin America in this case. Contacted Samsung Latin America and was told that Samsung products bought thru Amazon.com aren't covered.
I'm tired of getting the run around, I'm going to file a claim with Amazon and see if that works.
It is very unfortunate. If something happens to my Note then I am not going to be able to claim the warranty too as I got it delivered from outside the country. Overall this is negative PR for Samsung that they fuss to give International warranty.

Did you pay via Ppal or Credit Card ? If you did, contest the charge stating the item had issues from the beginning that the seller did not resolve. When VisaMC hits them with a chargeback, I will bet the 3rd party vendor will say, OK, send it back and we will replace it. If they purchase direct from Samsung, they can get it fixed. Did the items description explicitly say NO WARRANTY ?

From their seller page:
"All products sold by us carry manufacture warranty"
I paid with a credit card. I emailed them one last time telling them Samsung will not cover replacement/repair and asking that they replace my busted Note with a new one. If that doesn't work I'll file a claim with Amazon. I'd rather not intiate a chargeback...yet.
I think you get 45 days to contest a charger? IM sure it varries by the credit card company

Update
Got an email from Amazon saying that my claim is denied since the sellers page says that there are no returns on cell phones.
I submitted an appeal stating that the sellers page also says that all products sold by them are covered by manufacturers warranty. Even though Samsung USA and Samsung Latin America won't cover it.
If this doesn't work I'll call my CC company and see about getting a chargeback done.
In the meantime I think I'll order a new Note from the better sellers out there. What do you guys recommend? Expansys USA or Handtec?
Try going through Newegg. If it's bad within 30 days they will refund or replace. Otherwise Handtec is great, but if you need warranty ......
You shouldn't be getting/buying phone from on-line sellers such as on Amazon. It's not true that mobile phone (in general) has an international warranty.
You should really wait for an official release in your country.
Do you know the amazon seller name?
I am looking to buy from amazon and based on your experience now I am worried. Can you tell the name of the seller? I had contacted Global mobile amazon seller and was told for warranty purpose you need to ship it back to their office in Germany and they will take care of it.

Well he did say a big green line, due to the pentile display it should be like 1 subpixel in thickness not a "big green line" as per OP.
this thread should be stickied. Good info to know when we go about buying a foreign phone

HD2 Motherboard

Hello guys , my phone is getting freezed after some time of using (45 min) , the Tech's said that this is overheating of the motherboard
So any idea from where can i get new one?
Thanks in advance...
Sent from my HD2
You can find them usually on Ebay and Amazon. I would use what ever search provider (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc..) to do a search for "HTC HD2 motherboard". Pick out a site that has good site reviews if possible as well as good prices. A quick search yeilded dozens of sites that sold HD2 motherboards.
can somebody help me for my HD2?
two days befor it fall and after that my HD2 working with very low speed.
for example, it will take 10 minutes for boot from power on until sense completly load.

Are you saying you dropped the phone and now since its been dropped you have very slow load times?
Is you phone rooted with a custom sense rom?
Do you still have a warranty on the phone?
no the rom version is official and my phone warranty expired
So you noticed it after you dropped it?
Have you tried to turn off your phone and turn it back on? I know that seems kind of stupid but it does fix some small problems from time to time.
Sorry to say but there wouldn't be much you could do for it that i know of. The very best advice i could give you would be to open your own thread about your problem and put this infomation in there. This thread is about motherboards so you wont get as much help as of you opened your own. This way a lot more people will see this and with the more people that see's it maybe someone comes across it and has had that problem before and can offer a solution if one.
Thanks for your advice.
i will open a new topic.

I'm not so sure. I can't find any myself, but it maybe a firewall problem or something. What I find is typically they are "Motherboard Flex Cable Ribbon". Can't find "motherboard" only. I've contacted some sites, but they say no motherboard/main board at all.
If you have come up with a "motherboard" only (at a reasonable price), please provide link. That would be very helpful as I'm after one as well.
You can find a HD2 from Amazon or Ebay that has a cracked screen or something along those lines thats still working and get the motherboard off that phone. when i did a search earlier i seen two sites but i'm unable to find them now. one site you had to be signed in so you might need an account but i'll try and find the other and report back.
Guys please provide me a link if you find a motherboard , i found one on
Gadgetsaving & Ebay
but i am afraid that when i get them i get another problem with them so please any advice ?
Thanks in advance...
$120 seems pretty high. As i said above, you can find a used model off ebay thats still working for the same price. Then you would have more parts you can use off that phone.
You really need to know what your doing during the install process though so if you dont, send it out to someone that does. I seen a phone with a cracked screen but that was
100% working order sell on ebay for $55 just yesterday. Plus if you have problems with the motherboard/phone you do buy off ebay you can always ask to return it. If they
wont accept a return you can then file a claim through ebay stating the phone/motherboard wasn't as described to have ebay force the seller to refund you the money once
you return it. In some cases you can even get a return shipping label emailed to you so you wont be charged the shipping back to the seller.

[Q] Craigslist Nexus4 16gb offer questions

I have an opportunity to buy a Nexus4 16gb locally on craigslist for $400 which is the same price as my Google order that won't come in for another 5 weeks. The seller appears to be legit after getting his name and googling his name. The phone is in the original box with the Google seal stickers on untouched. I asked if I could open and put my SIM card to make a test call but, he stated no since it would devalue the phone if I decided not to buy, which I understood. I asked for his receipt but, he said all I needed for warranty issues was the imei number on the phone.
Please point out anything else I need to be looking/asking for as I will be picking it up tomorrow at 7pm cst based on feedback from all the awesome members in this forum.

1. Great price, but I would be suspicious on his reasoning on selling it for $400, not much profit to gain (if at all).
2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape.
4. There wouldn't be any devaluing if you were to test the device with a SIM card. This is bs IMO. The only devalue would be if it was truly sealed and then which I can believe him.
5. I'm not sure about the receipt and warranty but depending on when he bought it. Google Play gives you 12 days for a RMA with them before you take it to the manufacturer. I would take the receipt though, as he can easily just report the IMEI and then you get screwed in the end or something.

2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me. He is a starter company advisor locally and well known locally.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape. I will have to inspect case and stickers when I go to buy it. If looks suspicious, will pass.

. Will ask for receipt for your reason mentioned.
See my answers above. Thanks for your input.
You can make a deal like, Open it and I will test a call and if works I take it otherwise wont. So opening it and not taking it is not an option
Yeah if he won't let you test it **** it. You can't find the phone anywhere opening the box will hardly devalue it at all, if even. Also you should try and get the receipt because AFAIK you need more than just an IMEI for the warranty.

I would not even consider buying it if you cannot test the phone. The phone might not even be in there for all you know.
THANKS to everyone who responded to my inquiry. Got back a little while ago with the new Nexus4. It is Beauty and the Beast. Already put the case on it and now downloading my apps. The seller was on the up and up, was able to test by making a call, go over the entire phone specially the front and back glass.
Now I get to sit and play with the new toy this weekend. Got to cancel my Dec 8th order and help someone else get theirs quicker.

Congrats. Glad it all worked out and nothing suspicious happened. Happy to hear that the seller changed his mind and let you test it.
I would research the S/N from the box with Google to see if it is stolen. Also if you buy it be sure to get a receipt from the seller to show you bought it and how much you paid.
I bought one from kijjiji $550.00 BNIB 16 Gb Didn't even put a sim in. Broke the seal looked at it that's it.. But I also got a receipt First thing called google had the warranty changed into my name they checked the imei and it was legit :good:
I suggest you get a receipt it has his name on it..
BTW he ordered nov 27 got it on the 29 I bought it dec 16..
Only problem is that only the original buyer can return the device to Google for an exchange if a problem occurs. And they do keep track of who bought them so without the original receipt your only option for the warranty is through LG. What LG does is have you send the phone back to them for repairs which can take a couple weeks and in teh meantime you have no phone. This has been discussed a number of times in several threads already as a few unlucky craigslist buyers found out when they wanted to do an exchange for a defective device.

Faulty F2 Pro BuyBuyBox stolen by scammer

Hi, I want to do my best to report what happened. I wanted the Poco F2 Pro 256GB version and found one online at BuyBuyBox, who have an online store as well as an eBay store.
I bought the phone back in July 2020 and it started having issues like a warning about overheating at the start. After a week it started working ok and I left it and didn't decide to return it.
But soon after it had issues with the fingerprint sensor and would just not power on or the screen would go black and have to be rebooted constantly.
It stopped detecting the fingerprint sensor altogether.
I tried various ROMs and options, but believe it was a hardware fault.
I contacted BuyBuyBox via eBay where I got it. I was somewhat reluctant to return it as it was outside the 30 day period on eBay. The seller said to return it and they'd repair it and send it back.
I thought that sounds ok, they had a decent eBay rating (somehow I'm not sure).
I sent the phone back as it was unusable as it was. Once it arrived they said they would look at it. Since that time, they won't respond to any messages.
I sent eBay an email to complain about the seller being a scammer and eBay have been hopeless also at even doing anything at all.
I paid over $800 for the phone, so have lost $800.
If anyone knows of a way to help it would be appreciated. I know it's a risk to buy from overseas online, but liked the specs of the F2 Pro.
I did find some reviews since then of BuyBuyBox and it seems a common trick they do. They get customers to return devices, then never respond or return them. Which is just a bit of a shock to me, as I'm always honest and help people out, to deal with absolute lying scammers is not something I'm used to.
My suggestion do not ever use BuyBuyBox if the device you buy works you might be ok, but if you have to return it, then just don't do it as it will be gone for good.

If you paid with PayPal everything is eligible. ( Up to 90 days, sometimes more )
Open a charge back thru PayPal and explain the situation in the ticket ( i also suggest to convert it right away to a claim )
They will need to reply to PayPal else you automatically win the claim
