advice for getting my awake time down (its at 100%) - Hero CDMA General

I just recently noticed that my phone has a 100% awake time and I cannot find a reason why. The partial wake lock function in spare parts says nothing is keeping it awake for a long period of time... Any advice on how to fix this? Any help is much apreciated. Im running fresh 1.1 with gumbo kernal less agressive

USB charging does not allow the phone to sleep.

I rebooted my phone right after i took it off the charger this morning and monitered it throughout the day and it still was 100%...

Kind of a silly question, but have your recently installed any new apps? I know that my Facebook for Android keeps my phone awake quite a bit. In fact, I think I'm about to uninstall it if it still keeps it awake after I remove the widget. Anyone else have that problem with Facebook? Not to hijack.
Did you look in Spare Parts for the total times on Partial Usage?

it says it keeps it awake for a little but not that much I'll try removing that widget and see if it helps

It's not the widget. SOME Fresh ROM users see the same thing when they first flash the new kernel. A reboot fixed it for most.

if all else fails, backup your apps/sms and RUU/root/reinstall rom/restore

try removing the htclocationservice apk. my friend had this problem and thats how we fixed it.
rm HtcLocationService.apk in /system/app
you dont need it btw, android has its own.

You need to remove it via ADB. There are stickies about removing programs. Check them out. Just make sure it's the right file.

after doing a factory reset of my phone the awake time went down on my phone, this means it has to be an app or widget correct?

It could have been an app or widget, but it could have been a number of things other then that. Start adding your apps back 1 by 1 and see if they affect your wake time. I like i said earlier, we were able to fix it by the location service alone.

Okay Problem solved(I think) In the middle of of the phone bootlooping I held down the power button and the trackball, which put the phone in safe mode. From there I went to the settings/manage applications and uninstalled the problem child So far so good.
Oh man I should've read the post seconds earlier...I was freaking out in the boot loop then removed the widget then the app asap...Now I'm back to 3.6 (the new one is 3.7) and things are cool again now...
+1 for the bootloop. I just got a replacement N1 from HTC and thought I'd got another lemon

I tried to restore from backup but the fuxoring market then re-downloaded stuff in the queue and I got into the boot loop.
Doesn't happen if you install from scratch after a wipe.

Phone overheating

I am running DarchLegend 4.1, and my phone gets abnormally hot when it's just sitting in my pocket, receiving a text every couple hours. I would like to know why this is, if it's normal, and should I do anything about it? Thanks in advance

Sounds like a program is running in the background. I would get a task manager open and frequently check to see what app is staying open the most.

Tired of Pressing the Power Button!!!

Yea, so ive brought this up before and i see the power button still being the first mechanical button to break over time. Mainly because you have to press it constantly just to use the phone or wake the phone up to use.
So heres some ideas, correct me or critique them, and reply if theres already good alternatives/apps out there.
I know some of these ideas can drain the battery, but work with me on this...
- When an sms/mms is received i want the screen to auto turn on. Windows mobile did this from what i remember and it was a novelty.
- Be able to turn the screen on by swiping one or two of the lower capacitive buttons instead of pressing the power button.
- Have the screen dim to its lowest setting instead of fully turning off. (dunno how battery draining this can be) Windows mobile did this as well.
- Have an app monitor the motion sensor in the phone to where if you pick the phone up from a flat surface (horiz position) the screen auto turns on.. and maybe an extra option of having the screen turn on if theres a shake or jostle (of course you could adjust the sensitivity). But having this app running in the background all the time could be draining. I mean shiii.. the phone knows when youre in call and if your phone is up to your head so why cant we have that feature to turn on the screen instead of using the power button.
I would pay good money for someone to develop this. An all in one app that includes all those options. I'll do the graphic work if need be.
Most of that seems a little out there and un-doable, but I do know that Handcent has an option to turn on your phone when a sms/mms is received with a small box in the center of the screen for a quick reply. Hope that helps a little.
^^^ beat me to it.
if you use smspopup or handcent, they both have option for the screen to come on when you get a new text message.
they also popup a box to read the message and have the option to quick reply or go to the messaging app. you can turn this off tho and just have the screen wake up for any where from 10 seconds to like 5 minutes.

How so? Phone turns quiet when picked up im sure it can be set to turn on when picked up. SMS as someone mentioned, handcent does. Apparently "screebl" does the screen turn on, testing now.
you can use an app called no lock that will allow you to use the volume buttons to wake the phone, i don't think that you'll be able to wake by using that capacitive buttons - this would essentially mean that your phone would never sleep.
and I'm almost positive that you can set up a profile in tasker to take care of the dimming instead of turning off the screen. In fact, you could probably set up most, if not all of these through various tasker profiles.
Not to mention how much battery it would waste polling the accelerometer to see if it's been moved.

actually those are all things that seem pretty mainstream from an OS derived from the most robust OS out there [linux]. Yes, those can all be done on android. Unfortunately there is a lack of programmers ... Especially to something that probably wont appeal to the ones we do have...
Also some kernel modifications will be necessary...
Im sorry i cant do this for you... If i could I would... Just because our phones can... and a couple of those things should already be with us...
Someone help us!!
Coming from the iphone. I loved the look of the evo... but I now miss the home button for this exact reason. Lol
The swiping of the captive keys sounds great. I doubt its doable though..
EDIT: ok, screebl is cool. And eliminates the need to press the power to put it to sleep... but it doesn't wake it up when picked up, so it solves half the problem.

what is UID 10014?

its always the second biggest user of battery on my phone. starting to piss me off
i've also got a UID 10023 running at the bottom
under sensor usage for spare parts its telling me that the gallery has been active for 2 hours and 27 minutes. that can't be good
I dont remember what it is but the uid numbers are processes that are running. They are assigned a number. There is an app on the market that will tell you what the actual name of the process is fir that uid number. Ill see if I can find it again
Edit: its called android system info by electricsheep

There is an app called "Quick System info Pro". If you install it from the Market, open it and click on the processes tab. There it will list all the running processes on your phone. If you long press anything in the list, it will give you a list of options. One of them is "details". If you use that option it will give you the UID of that process(among other things). As for the Gallery issue, it sounds like you are running a ROM or theme which installs the stock Gallery. The stock 3d Gallery has a known bug where it continues to use the G-sensors even after shutting the gallery down. Mammon made a fixed version of the stock gallery for Bonsai ROM.

Not sure why it wouldn't be safe to remove. Many of us removed it a while back and replaced it with Quickpic from the market while we were waiting for a fix. There were no ill side effects. Just removing the odex file won't fix the bug.

Also if you have popups enabled in handcent it can drain ur battery as it will wake the phone from sleep, not sure if this is still a problem but in the past iirc the popup notification caused a lot of unnessacary battery drain... so that might also be the culprit still handcent tho, I haven't noticed any abnormal battery drain since turning off the popup notifications...

Use system tuner pro and freeze any app.it won't run again until you boil it.
I think that the maps service will run if you have 'shared your location' with the browser or other apps that use maps for location specific information. This can be switched on in Settings -> location and security.

Quick question Moe. Why do you use a custom kernel? Do you overclock?
Just asking, because when I first got my tab I must have flashed every ROM and kernel that was out at the time, and found none with less problems, and more stable than the stock 3.2 kernel.
Nothing more than curiosity.

To be honest I'm just trying stuff out to see what all the fuss is about. Both seem to be highly recommended so when i decided to go custom I just went with those two.
