I got wifi working w/no carrier on ppc6800! woot - Mogul, XV6800 General

I found a way to get my wifi to work without a carrier... its annoying as hell compared to my 8125.. is there a fix for it or should i map a button to the wlan toggle on comm manager and live with it?
what I have to do is set up my connection settings to my router... and let it try to connect... once it says it can't... i go to my com manager... toggle off my wlan... then toggle it on again.. boom! wifi is working! only prob is that you have to do that all the time.....
Now i have to figure out how to enable it to get on hot spots when i don't snow the name..... maybe wifi monster or something and toggle the wlan button.. remapped so it will find signals...

There should be no extra steps for wifi to work on the titan. I have an unactivated no and I only have to turn wifi on and it works. I suggest a different rom maybe some small and fast like a dcd 3.3.4. Why no just use the switch to toggle wifi on and off.

hmm.. i tried numerous roms... i tried dcd 3.2.6 and dcd 4.1.2.. no such luck..
tried different radios, carrier cabs, other custom roms.. will give his 3.3.4 a shot.
Thanks for the knowledge!

nope.. dcd 3.3.4 and a carrier cab still didnt work...
now.. my Wizard Comm manager has a wifi toggle... My Titan has a WLAN toggle... Thats a different setup... Shouldn't make a difference.. hmm
dcd 3.3.4
radio 3.42.50
still no auto detect for wifi... it's not the hard switch... must be something in the phone blocking it... strange...

Hi!
Wifi and Carrier are 2 different things... You should be able to use wifi without any carrier... With bad or good ESN... with a sunny or rainy day.
I have a Titan too... No carrier. Wifi worked fine with DCD roms, my own, cooked with PPC Kitchen, and more.
You can turn WIFI on and connect to your router or whatever you want.
Tested with the last DCD rom. When I turn the WIFI on, it connects to the router immediately. I installed Pocket Toolman 2 to keep the connection alive, maybe you should try that one.
I have the last radio and now a nice rom (WM6.5 for a better GPS navigation) with Spb mobile shell. The pagepool is set to 8 with no camera and 6 with camera. It runs very smooth and well (for its hardware). I'm not an expert but I know this cell phone pretty well so if you need something just write it here. No PM so everyone can enjoy it

Auto switch between VLAN and GPRS

Anyone know if the Trinity can seamlessly switch between WLAN and GPRS depending on network availability? I know the Imate PDA2K can - see http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=3460

Yeah, it works, but it really depends on how you have your device setup and the ROM that you are running as to how the switch over behaves.
Up until the Radio ROM V1.38, I'd say this worked well, but with the new HTC, and custom ROM's with 1.38 and 1.41 Radio, it is a bit of a pain.
As is the norm with WM5, GPRS is on all the time, and in the absence of an Activesync or WLAN connection, will happily use GPRS. Turning on WLAN should make the data flow via that, but I now find that while GPRS is on, often nothing happens at all when I turn on the WiFi, as if both connections are deferring to each other. It often needs me to disconnect the GPRS connection before WiFi cuts in.
Turning WiFI off again seems to be OK- the GPRS connection re-establishes as needed.

The WLan problem is the reason that I haven't yet tried the new cooked roms. I'm still using the Dopod Test ROM along with the new 1.41 radio. My Trinity runs very well and everything works. GPRS is on...I can connect to Wifi, that works, connect to laptop via activesync, that works, disconnect activesync, then wifi works, disconnect Wifi, then GPRS works. I have also never had a problem with TomTom hanging, and most importantly my 4gb TopRam miniSD works flawlessly. Of course after all of the blah blah about memory cards, I'm wondering how long it will work...we'll see. I'm using the perfomance tweaks, the ATIfix and the bass fix.

Same thing here with the latest original HTC FRA ROM.
Same also with my Qtek9100.
The only thing I could not manage yet in the Trinity is to set up an automatic shutdown (disconnect) of the GPRS/UMTS data connection after a given time of no use to save the battery life.

Thats interesting!
I still had the same problem as mentioned above with the latest official HTC ROM. I had thought it was the Radio version, but as yours is OK, perhaps it is a hardware issue local to my device? My release Orange ROM worked fine though (but I had to get rid of teh horrid Orange stuff, some of which is in the ROM itself rather than the Ext_ROM)

I use this little app to turn off my connection and change between radio modes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=bandswitch

I don't think it is a hardware problem. The thing is, I'm not usning an official HTC rom, it is a Dopod test rom that came out even before the first official Dopod GPS rom. I use it because since everything works, there was no reason to go looking for trouble . I've updated the radio to 1.41 and applied the performance tweaks, the atifix and bass fix. I remember at the time that the official Dopod and HTC rom came out that several people went back to the test rom because of stability, radio, and miniSD card issues. That being said I can't wait to try the new WM6 Trinity rom!

Very nice application...
Band switch + time limit to come back to gprs.
I did not read the whole topic yet... I will try the soft today.
Thanks a lot Matterhorn
Edit: Installed and tested. Really great and helpfull tool.

Wifi isn't working after upgrade to WM6

Hi.. please forgive me, but I've been searching this forum for a couple hours, and tried everything I have read.. but my Wifi still doesn't work.
I have a Cingular 8125. It was running the factory WM5 yesterday, and my Wifi worked fine. (wifi is the main reason I got this phone).
I upgraded my ROM to the latest Hornet (wow, it is FAST - thanks!) and everything works great but the wifi.
IPL: 2.21
SPL: 2.21
GSM: 2.13.11
OS: 11.0.4.0
I tried the Hard Reset method and the other tricks I found on here... i'm starting to think I might need to upgrade my IPL/SPL too? If I go back to WM5, will my wifi work again?
Thanks for any hints you can provide.
Always making things
Make it men! maybe it works for you but I can tell you that IPL and SPL dont change the WIFI performance maybe your wifi radio is dead...
if you want to upgrade your ipl and spl try the Aku 3.08 for wizard and download that rom search exactly with that words on thi web... but remember its only for G3 (G4has too much issues and bricked problems)
post your results... and remember unlock upgrade and downgrade are recomended in XP, flash with your batt full charged and please downgrade to an original first before upgrade a coock ROM.

I don't want to try upgrading the IPL/SPL.... if I can't get my Wifi to connect under WM6, then I will go back to WM5.
My wifi radio isn't dead - it connects to my home wireless router and gets an IP address... but I can't call up any web pages using Explorer or Opera. However, web pages come up fine using EDGE/GPRS (I have AT&T). It's almost like the WM6 isn't configured right, to let Explorer know that it can use the Wifi (when wifi is connected).
thanks
Does you have the conection set?
Maybe on conections you have set all the ports edge gprs and others to let the IE in from that ports... maybe you can conect via wifi changing the advanced conections setting to not use proxy server or change from the first option from My ISP to My work network... i did it once and it works!

OK, I have a little bit more information.
The Wifi connection *IS* connecting me to the Internet, for about 15 seconds after it starts up. Using PING, I can ping the IP address of my Wizard for about 15 seconds, before the replies cease. I can also start up the Wizards Internet Explorer and call up a web page or two, before it stops working.
So, I can turn off Wifi, and turn it back on, and surf the internet for about 10-15 seconds at a time.
Does anyone know of a registry setting or something that is controlling this? Why doesn't my Wifi connection stay "active"?
Again, this issue is occuring with the latest "Hornet 5" ROM which I downloaded on Friday.
Thanks

Well.... today I went to a sports bar to watch the NFL. I turned on my wifi, and guess what? It worked perfectly. I stayed in touch with my friends via instant messaging for the entire game, no problems.
So... My wifi still doesn't work from home (it was working fine last Friday), but since I really don't "need" it to work from home, I guess I can live with things the way they are. I will spend a little more time troubleshooting my home network, but for now let's just say this is "case closed".
Thanks!

OK, one more entry, just to perhaps help anyone else who might be having this problem.
Still perplexed about why my Wizard's Wifi would not connect to my home network, I went out to my back porch and scanned for other networks in my neighborhood. My Wizard found 3 or 4. After 10 minutes of this, I came back inside and tried to connect to my own home network again.... IT WORKED!
I suspect that there is some flag or registry setting that is set by WM6 and/or ActiveSync during the re-flash process.... WM6 must initially set this flag to something like "this network can only connect via ActiveSync". After I scanned a bunch of wifi networks, at some point this flag got reset and WM6 let me connect to my home network via wifi.

Anytime turn off wifi no 3g available anymore!

Anytime I turn off wifi connection and try to connect with 3g after it there´s no application can get any access to internet.
Even softreset or deleting and typing new ISP settings don´t work except hardreset until I turn on wifi and turn it off again.
Really weird!
Can anyone help me please!?
Thanks!
I had an issue recently that sounds very similar. I altered some wi-fi settings, specifically to have a fixed IP address on my home network and when I was away from my network, 3G stopped working.
My fix was to use the wizard to set up my data access again from scratch (Start - Settings - Connections - Connections Setup). After this, everything worked again. Not sure if this'll help, but might be worth a try.
I still don't know why one affected the other, but if I go anywhere near my data settings, it happens and is repeatable.
Problem fixed with original rom
Thanks for answer, but I tried your advice couple of times before.
No result!
but its the same, I have static IP at home too and connection works fine but after disabling wifi no internet connect available.
Now I flashed original HTC rom and I have no problem anymore. It has to deal with the cooked roms of Dutty (both versions v1.7 and v1.8 extreme).
I would like use one of these roms but I have to fix that!
I've had the problem and was fixed by - in connections... "Programs that access the internet use:" was "My work network" -ie wifi.. instead should be "Internet over GPRS"
changing it fixed it.
i find it annoying it should have "Try wifi first, if no access THEN use the Expensive data plan"
I´ve had tried that options too...no result!
But it has to deal with your hint I think. Maybe my settings don´t effect like it does with your handheld. Maybe something´s wrong with writing settings in registry?
I have a same issue.
there´re lot of people having that same issue....
Maybe Dutty by himself is able to give us answer?!
I´ve flashed Dutty´s 1.9 now but I have same issue again.
What´s wrong with my settings?
Same settings worked very well in original htc rom.
What the heck is going on?

WiFi issues with Sprint Mogul

Hi My Sprint Mogul has Ryan Moguls Light WM6.1 ver 1.5 light radio 3.42.02 and DCAAXAM-4350H . I like it but the main reason to have this device was to get on the free WiFi at work. It starts up and searches finds it connects then will say unable to connect. Other times it says can't locate page, Same with my home wireless. I just need a reliable WiFi device..
I had the same problem, I solved
I don't know if this can help since I have MetroPCS as carrier and I flashed a Sprint Mogul to make it work.
I had this problem and I couldn't get it work, but researching I knew was related with the internet setting, I couldn't get rid of the HTC_Guardian thing until I switch to Windows XP (I have Windows 7), only then I can setup all the internet & wap part as it should. (Start->Settings->Connections <Connections> in |Task| tab, Select Set up {my proxy server}, Check mark in both and <Advanced>, HTTP, WAP, Secure WAP & Socks for instructions & settings for MetroPCS see: [howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1559514]).
Let me know it that works.
toggle off then toggle on your wlan AFTER it says it can't connect... works like a charm... gonna try remapping a soft key to the wlan toggle..

I have a Mogul with Ryan Moguls Cricket lite 3.1/ radio 3.42.40 and I have the same basic problem. Only occasionally will my Wifi connect or detect my Access point (about 15 feet away). turning WLAN on/off doesnt seem to help. I have used other 6800's in the same environment with wifi working perfectly, so maybe it's a hardware problem. (although I have two 6800's right now with similar symptoms)

Wi-Fi can't connect

Just load Energy 23569 ROM onto my Touch HD Touch and everything seems ok except Wi-Fi .. i can't connect to my home Wi-Fi after keying in the authentication passcode .. it just keep showing Red icon of WiFi ... i'm not too sure if there something to do with the Advanced Config settings ...
I have the same issue.
How is this solved ??
Thanks
Ciao

i have problem with wifi too.phone cant see wifi network even whan i stand right next to router.one time phone found network, but only poor signal and i wasnt be able to connect. wifi goes well on another mobiles like SE X10 and samsung JET. i changed several roms but problem stays.. i dont know what to do..thx
Htc hd wifi problems
I just guess it´s some kind of incompatibility with certain WIFI APs.
I tried several other now:
Netgear 834 - complete catastroph
T-KOM 500WV - runs immediately
So I think it´s the best to change the router.
The device:
Speedport 500V is at least the one that does the job in my network.
Fritz (2 types I don´t know exactly but little older though), Netgear (834), Sparklan - these did NOT WORK
Speedport W500V- just basic setting (WEP 128Bit, ASCII) immediatlety connected to the HTC. Tested with WFI-MONSTER.
I think I´ll get a hold of some of these, they are pretty cheap (20 €) here now.
Hope it helped a little
Ciao

Hi Guys,
I had the same problem the entire week last week. I tried upgrading the radio, downgrading the radio, several different roms, until I finally realized what the cause was.
Wifi would work right after the first hard reset after flashing a new rom or radio, but I noticed that it wouldn't connect to any of my wifi routers after installing all my apps and restoring configurations.
I noticed that after enabling "WPA authentication" on Advanced Configuration, wifi would stop working. Leaving it disabled would let it work normally. I don't understand why, but there you go. I haven't had a problem with any router since.
Hope this helps.
