After upgrading to ROM 1.66, and re-synching everything back to the phone from Outlook over ActiveSync, I also re-synched with MyPhone. What happened was that duplicates of all my Documents (excel, word, notes etc) appeared in MyPhone, and the documents on my HD2 got overwritten with older versions that were already on MyPhone. Looking through the docs on MyPhone, I noticed most of them had THREE copies, which appeared to be from previous hard resets/ROM upgrades. How MyPhone can maintain several copies of the same files is beyond me, and it also seems MyPhone sometimes synchs up an OLD version, so you lose all the changes you had made since that old version.
So for now I have switched off MyPhone and am going back to just synching with Outlook, which seems to work very well.
Incidentally, last time I did a hard reset, which I had to do because the LOCK screen refused to recognize my password (that's another story), I initally got my data back from MyPhone, but then when I subsequently synched to Outlook, I got duplicates of all my contacts, notes, tasks etc, and had to manually delete all the duplicates, which took forever.
Has anyone else experienced these issues with MyPhone? Have a look at your MyPhone accounts folks, especially if you've upgraded your ROM recently, and see if you have any duplicate documents. Also check whether any of your docs have been replaced on your HD2 with older ones. I'd be interested to hear whether I'm the only one with these issues.
Cheers!

yeah, it appears that neither one on them, (outlook or myphone) is compatible with each other, they both duplicate contacts.... I am obligated to use myphone service cause I often do hard resets without my pc in front of me, besides, my phone synchronizes text messages also... Making changes in outlook is so much easier an simpler, so when I need to do major changes to calendar for example, I Synchronize with outlook on my pc (previous cleaning of outlook which is a pain in the as*).... is sad that both microsoft products do not get along well
Not sure if this helps but I went to MyPhone web, into my account and noticed that there were 2 devizes on it. One was the ROM 1.43 and the other 1.66 based on sync dates.
While upgrading to WWE 1.66 I couldnt restore all my stored text messages from MyPhone which claimed that I have 0 archived.
On 1.48 there were no problems with it

I tried synching with my work exchange server and unticked all boxes bar email (i.e. contacts, tasks etc), as that was all I wanted. Although this worked, it decided to delete all the contacts I had on my phone!
Unfortunately I didnt have any backups, is there anyway to get this back? Ive had a search around, and people mention there may be artifacts left in the pim.vol file. Ive found the file (its aorund 700kb, so Im hoping there is something in it), is there anyway to extract/view the info in there?
This phone/WM6 is really beginning to seem like more trouble than its worth
I thought that's how it was designed...
The contacts should have been left in the desktop Outlook....
The system warns when you un-tick contacts etc... it removes the link between the two devices. Hence deletes all of the contacts.. Even so it would have to sync with Outlook in order to do this process correctly.
Which is fine except they were contacts that were never originally in Outlook, i.e. I added them straight to the phone. I would have hoped these wouldnt be deleted

See if you can restore via your sim. Your contacts may be stored there depending on how you set things up before syncing with exchange.
I'm sorry if there was any mention of this problem before, but I wasn't able to find it.
But what happened this afternoon was kinda troubling. I've just bought my HTC Hero, two days ago. I've synced it with outlook with 700 something contacts. And all was fine. There was some trouble with syncing, but all contacts were transferred to phone memory.
When out of a blue, this afternoon, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and all contacts simply vanished. Calendar was still intact, txts as well, all fine but the contacts.
When I came home, I tried to sync it again but it just synced two calendar notes. It synced as if all contacts were on the phone, but they were not. So I've managed to restore them by over-riding phone with PC.
Can anyone explain this? How do I know this won't happen again?
I'm using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 as well as the latest edition of HTC Sync.
(maybe relevant, maybe not, I've managed to hopefully resolve the before mentioned troublesome connection when syncing by manually installing drivers for Windows 7)
Thank you. I hope I was clear.
Probaby an obvious one but if you go into Contacts=>Menu=>View have you accidentally unchecked the set contacts you want to show ?
I'm having the same problem, but running Windows XP w/ Outlook 2007 instead.
First time was using stock ROM. One day all my contacts disappeared (phone and google contacts). The phone contacts I retrieved by forcing HTC Sync to overwrite my phone's data with my PC's. The google contacts I retrieved by doing a factory reset and setting up my google account again.
Then I installed MCR 2.6, and again my contacts disappeared, but this time only the phone contacts (the google contacts remained).
Has anyone else experienced this?
The same problem, twice.
Both time I had this problem when I sent a message.
I think this should be a problem of the ROM-version, and I hope the next ROM will fix it.
I've been trying to figure this out forever.
Every once in a while my phone contacts will vanish, but the Google contacts always remain.
I've tried turning off synchronization for Google contacts and it seems that my phone contacts have stopped vanishing for now. Has anyone faced a similar situation?
Simply migrate you contacts to google. Its very easy. Quite why anyone struggles with Outlook on Android is a mystery. I was Outlook mad pre the Hero, now everything is migrated to googlemail/google calendar/google contacts.
No USB connecting nonsense for updates, all over the air, 2 way sync. Much better than outlook ever was.
Hi
I'm planning to sync all my contacts and sms items with myphone and then upgrade new ROM. After the ROM upgrade I'm planning to restore my sms and stuff from ms myphone, how can I be sure that myphone does not automatically deletes all my stuff from my myphone account when it discoveres that my HD2 device is empty?
I don't know how you can be sure. But it does work.
I upgraded from an Experia to the HD2. Restoring from MyPhone went smooth. A week ago I upgraded the ROM of my HD2 and again, restoring from MyPhone went without problems. So I would say that it is safe to try.
Great! Did youi also get your contact photos back?
Yeah, everything was in place. Mind you, I only synced contacts, events, sms's and tasks.
I did the exact same thing with my HD2 a few days ago and it worked fine.
My contacts and events were synced with Exchange though so MyPhone didn't touch those, but all sms and pictures were restored after flashing the ROM and syncing MyPhone again. If you're not using Exchange MyPhone will handle your contacts and events as well.
i just flashed a new rom now and went to use the myphone back up and the damn thing deleted all my contacts and text messages, luckily my contacts got archived on the myphone site and i was able to get them back, the texts im not too worried about
Back-up programm on computer
I'm looking for a back-up programm which I can install on my computer instead on my HTC HD2.
I cannot synchronize my phone with outlook because it's to old and therefore no connection can be made. At least so it says.
MyPhone doesn't work for me either, cause it only downloads contacts and so on if their is a connection between my mobile and outlook.
Before the HTC HD2 I had another mobile (not a windows mobile), for this mobile I had a programm (PC Suite) with which I could make a back-up of my entire mobile. And I could enter my backed-up data on my computer.
I hope someone can tell me which back-up programm I can use.
I have found that when trying to sync photo's from storage card starts uploading every image it finds from apps like FPSECE. I let it run for a while then it fails saying I have run out of storage on MyPhone!! Bit silly really that there isn't more options to what images to upload.
You can also use Dashwire to backup everything on your phone. I've used it for a couple of years now and never had any problems with it. You just uninstall the application from your device before you wipe your phone, then reinstall it once you're done and it'll sync all your stuff back.
Back to the OP's question, there's something on the myphone end that realises your phone is empty and pulls all your contacts down instead of deleting them. Your 'backup' here is that if you delete a contact on your phone and sync, it's not deleted from myphone. Instead, it goes into an archive there where you can either delete it permanently or move it back on to your phone. IE, worst case is you'd need to hit a few 'Check all' and 'Restore' buttons to get everything back and working.
After upgrading to 1.66 and using myphone to back up, i now have duplicate contacts in outlook and my device and also i hard reset today and synced again, it seems i have up to 4 duplicates of each entry!!
WTF have i done wrong here and how do i stop this happening again?
Sync with Outlook OR myphone, not both!
If outlook is the master, after a hard reset, unregister the phone from myphone, delete all contacts in myphone, sync with outlook, which will restore the contacts on the phone, then register and sync with myphone, which will transfer them to myphone again.
As there's no direct link between outlook and myphone, if you hard reset and sync both, myphone will restore your contacts onto the phone, then outlook will do the same as it can't know the contacts that are now on the phone are the same ones it's gonna transfer. Then myphone sees you have more contacts, so syncs them, and you get a double, etc.
Remove duplicates on PC and phone
To remove duplicates you can use:
1) For your PC: http://www.vaita.com/ODIR.asp
2) For your phone: http://gydarindustries.com/?page_id=4
aha!i get it now, thanks both
Man, i am in a pickle tonight LOL please, read this, laugh and call me a numpty....
I deleted all my duplicates using that app mentioned above on my device. I then deleted all my contacts in outlook thinking it would update to what's on my phone but outlook just deleted all my contacts on my phone!!! How does this work? does it go by what the latest action was or will outlook always update my phone to what's in outlook? If that is the case then everytime i add or alter a contact on my device outlook will delete it. Surely i've got that wrong
I then **** myself having no contacts what so ever, so i thought i'd sync with myphone and get them all back on to my phone, but then i thought, no, wait what if my device updates myphone with zero contacts, i am not sure what way round this all works.
So then i panic but realise that all my contacts i deleted in outlook are still in the deleted items folder so i restored them all and synced it back to my device.
I am now back at square one and am highly confused over what takes presidence when syncing my device with outlook and with myphone, i do however understand that outlook and myphone don't have a connection.
Would i be right in saying that the latest 'action' on outlook, myphone or my device will then be updated to the other?
What i really want to do is, edit all my contacts in myphone, sync to device, sync to outlook, is that possible
i've seen this said on here before, don't mess with things when tired!
apologies for being thick, i'm still getting used to using outlook (from outlook express) and using wm from symbian.

This can be set in WMDC/Activesync. By default, when creating a new partnership/the sync history is lost it's set as "outlook overwrites device". It can be set to "device overwrites outlook" though.
With myphone it's less clear... apparently, the phone overwrites myphone. But, as myphone will restore the phone after a hard reset, i presume it works that way:
If you connect to myphone and the contact DB on the phone is empty, myphone loads phone with what it has. If the phone already has contacts, they overwrite the ones on myphone.
In any case Outlook is the "master" in the default configuration. After a hard reset, delete old partnership on the PC, connect the phone, create partnership, outlook will restore contacts and stuff onto the phone. Then link to myphone, phone should overwrite myphone.
Now that the sync relationships are established, you can edit a contact on myphone, sync myphone -> modifications will be carried onto phone, then sync phone with outlook and modifications will be carried from phone to outlook. But isn't it easier to just edit in outlook directly?

Thanks i think i have it worked out now, jesus! i think what you say about myphone must be correct.
Balls to this, i'm hitting the sack
hi
Hi,
Another alternative is a new service from Scrubly Duplicate Contacts Remover. The service scans and removes duplicate contacts from your Outlook, Gmail and Google Apps accounts. The nice thing about this service is that it gives you the option of viewing the contacts to be merged in advance and picking and choosing the info you want to merge so you have complete control over the merged data. It also keeps a backup of your contacts. Hope this helps
Hi,
I have a problem with syncing and I've put the background to the problem as well as my main question. If you think you can help, go straight to "QUESTION". Thanks.
BACKGROUND
Okay, since the 12th of December I've not been able to directly sync my phone's contacts and appointments (using my phone's wi-fi connection) with my Microsoft Account at Windows Live / Outlook.com. I thought it had something to do with the end of the World, but it turns out it doesn't. E-mail and tasks sync just fine and using the connection steps here, I have a good connection to the Windows Live ("m.hotmail.com") server. My phone is currently running the latest EDGE swift ROM, so Windows Mobile 6.5.
After a little digging and process of elimination (of the ActiveSync errors), it seems most (but not all) of my contacts and appointments (on my phone) are out of sync. Waaaaay way out of sync. I'm talking hours, some of them even days. Hence Live/Outlook.com refusing to sync some of these items. My problem is mainly related to the appointments stored in my phone and those in my Windows Live Calendar.
I've been travelling around the World for some time and I think due to the constant PIM backups, restores and syncs between my phone and Live during differing time zones to that of when the original data (appointments in particular) was created, the phone has juggled these things around so much that they have strayed from their original timestamps. For example, I run an amazing app on my phone called PhoneLog which records SMS messages and phone calls into appointments and puts them in the calendar, timestamping the call and it's duration. Comparing between my phone and Live, one log says a call was made at 12:12 but the appointment in my phone is at 17:12 and the one on Live is at 11:12.
QUESTION
My Microsoft Account has most of my original appointments, as I said, up until the 12th of December. Then because of the failure to sync, no more entries have been recorded online. However, I have them in my phone up until the current date.
What I want to do is delete all my previous calendar appointments in my phone before the 12th so that the problematic items no longer cause a sync failure, allowing me to sync up the new entries I've created since that date.
The trick is, how to do this without deleting in the process, all the new appointments?
I cannot delete all these entries manually one after another from the phone. There are thousands and it would just simply take too long.
Any help on how to bulk delete selective appointments would be greatly appreciated.
