Hey folks, I'm sure I'm not the only one who ran into this problem, but googling didn't yield anything fruitful.
I have a google account which is my e-mail address from google apps for your domain. I have a google account for legacy reasons as some google services (wave, voice, analytics) do not recognize google apps for your domain accounts and I wanted to keep everything under same e-mail.
So the problem is that my Mac address book synchronizes to the google account and the Android pulls data from the google apps for your domain account.
Any ideas how to force Mac to sync to a google apps for your domain account or how to force Android to sync with the simple google account?
Thanks!

First of all, FU! Second, FU! And third, in case you missed it, I'll put it in bold letters for you.

Oh, yeah, FU, my question had nothing to do with Apple Mail!

Don't use the same password for both accounts. Then you can choose which account by which password.

Thanks! I feel dumb having not figured that on my own. Have you tried that and did it work for you? I'm afraid I'd be getting authorization errors instead.

Go into the preferences in Address Book on your Mac.
Preferences: Accounts: Account Information: Synchronize with Google: Configure.
Where it says Google Account, put in your Google Apps account. Include the domain name of your google apps account. This works for me on Snow Leopard with no problems.

So the problem is not that I had no idea how to set up syncing, the problem is that there's no way to indicate which account I want to sync if the account name and password are the same for google apps account and regular google account.
I think lakerat's suggestion would work tho -- didn't want to test it as I'm afraid to mess things up -- my mac started syncing to google apps account instead of the regular google account couple of hours after I posted original message.

Gmail allows you to link all your various e-mail accounts together and view them as one instead of logging into several accounts or inboxes. Those with data contracts wll likely have no dificulties using gmail on the go. However, it seems many folk cannot connect if they are using a pre-paid or payg account with their telecom provider. For these people you currently have a Java Applet version, wifi when available, or logging in via the browser (expensive). Hence the need for an application that gives the same look and functionality as that enjoyed by data conacted folk.Mike

So my question is, "then I should be able to get all my email using the pocket outlook configured to this gmail account right?"
the gmail app that I am refering to is a small client that allows for gmail to push messages to your handheld device. I used it on my Blackberry and it was great. I had heard that google was going to eventually release the same type of client for PPC. Also, I use google apps so I do not have a gmail account. i have a [email protected] account that uses gmail.

because the pop3 sync is hard on the battery. (unless you accept the defaults to sync every 2 hours.) the gmail app is not hard on the battery. at least it wasn't on the Blackberry.
I'd like to know this as well.. I hardly use the gmail java midlet because it just isnt too great. If they had a native app like google maps or something, then I'm sure they can make it much better.

That's the theory - try it out on the PC
Mike
Have you considered logging into gmail, using the help function there, and then asking google this question? Seems they'd be the ones to know, not us.
You could even inform everyone here about what their response is after you do so.
Hi all
Sorry if this is not an appropriate place to ask, but please let me know of somewhere more suitable if not.
I've got two google accounts bound to my N1. One is a google apps premier account (which I use for email sync) and a normal googlemail account (which I use for calendar and contacts sync).
I use Gtalk on my desktop PC's for the first account (premier apps) and not on the second one, however when I fire up Gtalk on my N1 it is using the second account and not the one I want! I have not found an option to change this behaviour.
Does anyone know how to change which account Gtalk uses on the N1?
Thanks
Android will use the account you entered first. I entered my google apps account first then the gmail account and if I now try to remove the gmail account it says I can't. This is because android has bound the gmail account to the services not supported on google apps accounts.

Hm. I added my gmail account first and then the gapps one. I too found that if I try and remove an account it wants me to factory reset my phone and lose all data/config! This is pretty crappy.
I'm hoping someone can come up with a hack or something to change this behaviour regarding gtalk as I certainly don't want to reset my phone simply to get gtalk working.
I think a reset is the only way for now :-/
This is really poor. Google have slipped up somewhat with annoyances like this
hmm... i've the same problem .. then all we can do is wait
My current workaround is to use the eBuddy application, which is working just fine.
Probably off topic, but has anyone had complaints from their regular buddies about the phone causing frequent disconnects/reconnects to their chat client? One of mine got so annoyed by the alerts that he has cut me off... (using pidgin with my primary gmail account)
(I'm guessing that it happens when I'm connected via wi-fi and voice calls come in... ? ) Does anyone have any settings suggestions for either 1) staying connected or 2) having it just wake up when needed?
I think you can go into Manage Applications in Settings, hit menu and then filter, then select All. Clear the data for Gapps and Gmail, and then reboot. If you do it right, it should ask you to login again like it did when you first turned your phone on. Login with whichever account you want to use Gtalk with.
Hi,
I have a gmail account which I used to purchase apps, plus I have my domain calendar/mail hosted with gmail with a seperate login. I wanted to use my domain login to sync email and calendar but use my gmail address account to access the market paid apps. Is this possible? I thought of signing in as my domain account so everything syncs, then add a seperate gmail login in the hopes that this is the account the paid apps would use.
thanks

Use your domain login as your main account. When you try to purchase an app on the Market, it will advise that you need to a non-Apps for Domains account to actually go through Google Checkout and prompt you accordingly.

Dave
Thanks Dave, your awesome
Actually just realized this works for purchasing apps, but when an upgrade is released you can't see it. In fact, you can't see anything that you purchased
Are you looking the correct place? Your purchased apps are in "Downloads" in the Market, and it shows there if updates are available.
Regards,
Dave
Maybe I need to complete the purchase before the email address I entered registered. I willl try that
thanks
Had my Iconia for 2 weeks now, and finding new uses for it all the time.
It is a wifi only version, and I have a job that has me outdoors, and away from wifi for most of the day.
I want to cache all of my gmail messages (including attachments) so that I can view and use them offline.
Is there a setting for this, or is there an app?
Running Honeycomb.
Thanks.
I look for this also.
- another solution is
tether your phone with your tablet, and you will access online via phone... backup plan but still usefull sometimes.
You just need to setup gmail in the regular email app. Go to settings, accounts and sync, add account. Use the exchange (corporate) account type. User name is your full gmail email address. Server is m.google.com
It works.

Wow. Thanks for the tip. This is my first time hearing about this.
Should I setup my main account as Google, Exchange, or both?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
^Not sure. GMAIL gets setup in the native app due to setting up your google account (for market, etc.). Not sure if you can remove it from the GMAIL app. Only drawback is double notifications for emails coming in to your gmail address. I suppose you could turn off notifications for the gmail app if it bothers you.

Do you need _all_ of them? Or just a subset? If you apply an "offline" label in gmail, then you can go into the gmail app and under label options, tell it to sync all of the "offline" label, rather than the default (4 days).
If you do actually need all of them, then I guess you could just apply the "offline" label to everything...
Thanks for all the help.
Still having some problems. When I set up the new account to sync in the regulat email app, it wants to set it up as imap, not as an exchange account type. Maybe I am doing this incorrectly?
I only need to sync one folder, and I figured out how to get the GMail program to sync all those messages, but each one has an attachment which is what I really need, and the attachments do not sync.
Getting close, but not quite what I need yet.
That's odd. The attachments sync fine for me for synced messages in the gmail app?

That's correct, you should add a "Corporate" account via Settings.
It seems now that the GMail app set to sync all mail (not just 4 days) is syncing the attachments for offline use. I am happy!! Thanks for the help everyone.
Hi everyone,
So after having 2 nexus 4, each one with a different gmail account AND with a shared gmail account, I see that the 2 devices can use the shared account to use the TALK service.
I've tried to disable the shared account from the TALK service, but I can only find a way to add accounts, not to remove them (unless you remove the whole account from the device).
Am I wrong or this is the current situation??
Talk will display all Google accounts on the device, but you can simply sign out of the accounts you don't want to use.
