HTC magic only a guru can help me - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I have a Case Study with a HTC locked on Vodafone Magic 'logo "HTC magic" after following some of his guides on xdata Amon_Re.
But I think first of all have to give precise figures in relation to the terminal because you can understand the full problem.
Original data from fastboot mode:
HTC Vodafone magic
sapphire PVT 32B ship on G s -
HDBOOT 1.33.007 (Sapp 10000)
CPLD-10 radio 2.22.19.261
As we understand it was a perfect therefore nothing spl root,
Then I followed the guide on Ciato Amon_Re to obtain root permissions thing perfectly successful
result:
sapphire pvt 32B ship off-s-H
HDDBOOT 1.33.2010 (Sapp 10000)
CPLD-10
Radio 3.22.20.17
At this point I installed a terminal suitable for the recovery and so far so good,
but Tentet to install a cyanogen always following the various guides did not get to nothing more than the terminal remained stuck on HTC logo magic, then I decided to change spl convinced to do the right thing and always referring to the collection of Amon_Re I made and installed the Engineering SPL 1.33.2004 followed his guide, since the terminal is stuck on HTC logo magic me access without in any way they fastboot ne ne adb recovery.
Now I wonder what's wrong and you can retrieve the terminal and somehow I have to give up and consider brickkato the terminal.
Thanks to all who know me a useful tip to retrieve the terminal in advance, I also notice that I have already tried all possible ways but with negative results, therefore, only those in genuine familiarity with these terminals may help or advice for the best.
In whatever way each council will be appreciated.
While waiting I extend best wishes and thanks to everyone.

Making a backup of an SPL, and some other noob questions

I'm wanting to flash my HTC Magic (32B) to an Android 2.1 + Sense UI ROM. I've read a million HowTo guides (some better than others ), I've decided on my ROM and Recovery Image, got all the tools installed, and I'm ready to rock n' roll.
Only there is one little problem: I have a "perfect" SPL (1.33.0006, to be precise). Now the solution is fairly simple, update the SPL to an Engineering SPL, and I'll be able to go my merry way, however before that, I need to figure out a few things:
1) Is it possible to roll back to an older SPL? Eg if I updated to say Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 from Amon_RA's Magic SPL HBOOT collection, would I be able to roll back to 1.33.0006 at a later date?
2) Can I make a backup of my current SPL, for the above purposes?
3) What's the deal with Radios? There are plenty of guides and threads about ROMs and SPLs, but very little about Radios. Would I need to update my radio (RADIO-2.22.19.26I) if I used an Engineering SPL (eg Eng SPL 1.33.2010)?

Currently running stock Android 1.6 (which seems rather slow compared to 1.5 it was running before it updated).
If you can boot into recovery to flash a new SPL then your current one is not perfected and does not need to be changed.
I can't boot into recovery. Home + Power On brings the phone to the screen with an exclamation mark in a triangle, and then it hangs (need to pull the battery out to restart). Also, remote fastboot from the PC command line fails (Remote: not allow). And according to the XDA's Magic wiki page, 1.33.0006 is one of the known perfected SPLs, which it seems that most of the Australian Magics are shipping with.

You should only need to press Home + Back (IIRC) to bring up the recovery menu to be able to reboot from this screen instead of pulling the battery.

Unfortunately they are not only shipping them with perfect SPLs, but forcing them upon users post-repair. Had a very unfortunate dealing with Fonebiz in Melbourne, HTC's only authorised repairer in Australia, they took my easy to deal with 1.33.0004 Kiwi Magic and put one of their dirty Aussie boards in it and gave me an equally dirty 1.33.0007.
But as you know, this is easily fixed with an engineering spl, but the bottom line is that 'technically' your warranty is void. In all my searching I failed to find any command that would in effect pull the current spl off the phone. That being said I would imagine that grabbing the correct sappimg.nbh that contains the hboot.img matching yours and ripping it out (possibly with psas?) The only issue you're faced with there is finding that single correct file.
Upgrading your radio shouldn't be necessary, I'm on the stock 2.22.09.26I with 1.33.2005.

It looks like most of the ways to break a perfect SPL require reflashing the Radio anyway, so I might not have much choice.

Details were from a phone new out of the box. I haven't quite figured out why my phone is SAPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B while almost everyone else is SAPHIRE PVT 32B

Indeed, but if you read the guides fully you are walked through reflashing the stock radio when you're done downgrading. The guide I followed included flashing a sappimg.zip the basically gave it the SPL and radio of a 32A device, then reverting it back to 32B, so you're never stuck with an upgraded radio just because you have an engineering SPL.

From my own personal experience it seems to me that this Unknown vs PVT thing is in fact related to the SPL. I started with 1.33.0007 and Unknown, while following the guide at http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/ my SPL was changed to 0009 and PVT, then once I flashed the engineering SPL 2005 I was back to Unknown again.
Would be very interested to find out what goes on with yours during the rooting process, if you wouldn't mind
Well, I just flashed the SPL to ENG 1.33.2010 by using this guide to make the gold card:
theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
And this guide to flash the SPL (using the provided 1.33.2010 SPL):
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
Flash went successfully, and the phone data now reads:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Time to start flashing some ROMs
Ok, I may have hit a snag. I rooted the phone following the Unlockr guide, and then followed the next guide to install a Hero ROM on the Magic:
theunlockr.com/2009/08/17/how-to-load-hero-onto-your-mytouch-3g/
Except I used a different ROM to that.
Unfortunately I now have the problem that when I try and boot normally, the phone will hang at the Vodafone screen. I can still boot into recovery (recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2G), and I can still fastboot, but it won't boot a ROM normallly.
Phone Details currently:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
I can run 32A ROMs such as Amon_RA's 32A based image (as per the Unlockr rooting guide), but any 32B ROM will freeze. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?
Ok, about 5 minutes after post thing, I WAS able to get a 32B rom to work. This one, in fact:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624411
However I still can't get the Android 2.1 ROM that I want to try to work:

have you had any further success with this, been able to load a ROM?

[Q] HELP!Did I bricked my phone?

It is not boot with "HTC Magic" text on black background and stalled at all. And, I even can not boot it in recover (using HOME+POWER) or in HBOOT (using BACK+POWER) ...
It happened after I flash it with a Google ION radio image following the guide found in http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html#s1.
My phone was (before):
----------------------------
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP*****)
CPLD-10
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Jun 2 2009, 17:27:03
----------------------------
What I did exactly is below:
1. 'adb push' the radio image (ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip) into the /sdcard/update.zip
2. In Amon_RA's recovery tool, flashed the /sdcard/update.zip. When got the prompt I reboot the phone using menu.
3. It seems rebooted but stay in another strange screen that I never saw: that is an open box, beside that stands a green adroid robot.
4. I feel the screen stay too long and seemed halt, then I removed the battery and try to boot again.
From now on, in whatevery method, I can only get a dead screen with "HTC Magic" white text on a whole dark screen.
Can I save my phone? I am crying .... What's wrong in my steps?
HELP!
It's dead fo' shizzle.
I assume it was a Rogers Magic (32A)? I know the SPL says it'd 32B, but I've seen people flash all kinds of crap and end up with hboot showing the wrong board, and I'm pretty sure that's a 32A radio you're running. You flashed a radio image for 32B to a 32A phone... you shouldn't have done that.
Actually I also suspect if it is really a 32B as HBOOT said, since in a recovery flashing process I found Amon_RA's 32A version works but 32B does not. I posted the question in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750307, but no one reply to me! If you saw the thread and see something earlier, my phone can be saved
So, my question is, is there no any solution to recovery my phone any more?

Magic stuck on "htc magic" boot screen after Engineering SPL... and bad Nandroid, ugh

Magic stuck on "htc magic" boot screen after Engineering SPL... and bad Nandroid, ugh
Please help, I'm stuck on a boot screen, compounded by an apparently bad Nandroid backup
I just got a Rogers Magic so I can get 3G on AT&T. (couldn't with my T-mo G1) Rooted it, installed the RA-Sapphire recovery and took two Nandroid backups (one with, one without Ext)
Here was my starting point:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
Plan was to install Cyanogen 6.1.0 (like my G1). This requires that I downgrade the radio, and I was planning on using RadioSwitcher tool to make life simpler.
The tool requires an engineering SPL be installed, and points to this Magic SPL Hboot collection thread
I've downloaded and/or tried (in this order):
Stock: 1.76.0010 (as noted above)
Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 (from the SPL collection thread the tool instructions pointed to)
1.76.2007 SPL (from the Cyanogen Wiki on Magic 32A with 6.35 radio)
Engineering SPL 1.33.2009 (from the SPL collection thread the tool instructions are pointed to)
So when I tried using the tool to switch the radio to a Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17 [supplied], I got these results:
Stock 1.76.0010 - tool won't update radio without an engineering SPL. Device boots up no problem.
Engineering 1.33.2010 - tool uses Fastboot, I see progress bar, then screen goes black and tool reports "Radio update: FAILURE". Device now won't boot, hangs on "htc magic" boot screen.
Tried to restore - Nandroid restore issue noted below.
Engineering 1.76.2007 - same progress bar/black screen, update "FAILURE", and device won't boot.
Engineering 1.33.2009 - same progress bar/black screen, update "FAILURE", and device won't boot.
(I tried posting on that Radioswitcher thread but it's locked or closed or I'm just not able to post on it.)
I don't feel comfortable randomly trying SPL's, especially as I'm guessing there's simply a lack of understanding on my part as to which SPL is compatible with my current phone/radio. I'm hoping someone here can help with that.
Currently, this is how the phone sits:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.33.2009 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
...not able to boot, not able to restore:
I can get into recovery, but it's also testing me:
When I try to flash anything from SD, I get "E: can't mount SDCARD:" If I select "USB-MS Toggle" then disable it and come back, then it appears to work - but doesn't give me warm and fuzzies.
Nandroid restore - either backup gives "Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb!"
That really makes me uncomfortable and puts me a bit out of my comfort zone - I was counting on the Nandroid backup as my safety net... never had any issues with my G1 and Clockworkmod recovery.
Thankfully, I have the trusty G1 I can plug my SIM card into to use as a phone...
But I really need to get this working or it's a lot of money, and hopes, down the drain.
Help - please!
I used this guide to root my phone to begin with - I see there's an engineering SPL option in there also.
Although I said I wasn't going to try pot-shot SPL attempts, this was part of the rooting process I followed originally, and someone suggested that I try that one.
I can't boot my phone so I couldn't follow that process exactly, but I extracted the SPL file from that zip file and put it on the SD card using my PC, then booted into recovery to flash that Eng SPL...
...and still the Magic won't boot up. I can't tell if this is even any different than the previous SPL - or rather if the problem preventing boot is a problem, if it's tied to the SPL (numerous SPL-swaps would seem to indicate no?) and if it's different.
Now I'm here:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.2007 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
Stop...you have an eng spl... Thats all what you need!
You are working the BLIND...
For every spl there are matching radios...
For the 1.76.2007 spl, you can use any 6.35 radio for magic.
For the 1.33.20xx(xx can be 04,05,10) you can use 3.22 radios.
All the above are eng spl, which basically gives extends read/write permissions.
With the eng you can flash what ever partition you want, e.g. system, radio or recovery.
The reason you can't boot is that you have **** up your system.... That we can fix easy :0)
Radio/spl **** ups -> not to so easy to fix.
You have a good combo now, let's get you a good system.
First, you need to flash a different recovery to make sure it works with the 6.35 radio.
Download my fastboot commander tool (magic version, check my signature) and it will do it for you the easy way.
When you have the tool, go to magic 32A tab.
There you can find two buttons, one for 6.35 radio combo a.k.a new radio.
You also find one for 3.22 radio a.k.a. old radio.
The tool will flash an entire combo of radio, spl and recovery that matches :0)
so... this what you have to do, choose 1 and only 1:
1) use the tool to flash "new" combo, reboot into recovery and flash any rom that is for the new radio (6.35). Check out the development sections for roms.
2) use the tool to flash "old" combo, reboot into recovery and flash any rom that is for the old radio (3.22). E.g. cyanogenmod from this page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_version#MagicCM6
Remember to flash the EBI 1 kernel or else the system will not boot.
The gapps (at the buttom of the page) are optional but recommend :0)
Good luck, and stop working the BLIND!
Sounds good...
Should I expect that after flashing the "old" images, that I'd be able to boot my phone into the stock OS again (1.5 with Sense)?
Or should I just skip that [if that's not a good test] and just proceed with loading the Cyanogen ROM?
Very much appreciated, and thanks again.
Also, one thing I'm concerned with - I've seen some notes along the way that the Magic requires a custom Kernel to install Cyanogen... I'm not sure what the Kernel really even is. Do you have any insight into that?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=How_to_build_a_kernel_port_for_CM6
I've got the 32A - but those instructions are hardly 'download this file and flash':
"If you want to build a EBI1 kernel port package to get it to run on a 32A Magic (with 288 MB total RAM), or a phone with the 3.xxx radio such as the Rogers 32A Magic and Rogers Dream, then you can follow the instructions below:"
...and those instructions are long, and most intimidatingly - vague (much is implied, not all explicitly stated).
Yikes...
..........
I flashed the "old", and the phone now gets stuck in a boot loop on the "Rogers" (before the "HTC Magic" where it was getting stuck before).
The recovery is still the RA-sapphire-v1.7.OH... is that the Amon Ra?
I'll take a backup in this state, test-restore it (I know from experience with my G1 that the "HTC Magic" splash screen will be replaced with a Cyanogenmod one, with the Cyano 6.1.0) then put the Cyanogen on there and cross my fingers that I don't need to mess with that Kernel procedure...
EDIT:
I have a backup that restores - unfortunately it puts me back to the original "can't boot" state, lol.
Anyway, so after I took that backup, I proceeded to flash Cyano and the tiny Gapps.
I'm still getting hung on the Rogers screen - the Cyanogenmod boot screen doesn't come up.
WTF, you know?
EDIT 2:
I forgot to list my current state:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Let me know if you can help, thanks
i think now you can boot into recovery and wipe everything and then try to flash the rom from sd card/
READ what is written...
You are still messing **** up...
You cannot boot ANYTHING until you get a working system on the device...
You keep "booting" to nothing because there is NOTHING to boot...
STOP for a second and READ.
I have giving you 2 options... do one of them...
The Cyanogenmod need EBI 1 kernel which you can find on the same page i gave you..
if you read the instructions, you also find i have written that...
Once again to be sure, flash EBI 1 kernel after the CM rom, then you flash gapps and you should be good to go...
Or flash "new" combo and download this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778083
I can't help any more if you don't READ before you act!
I did... wanted to take it one conservative step at a time... operating with a bad backup here... ;-) And that Kernel page on the Cyanogen wiki is just evil... it should have a source to download one and apply, for us mere mortals lol.
I downloaded an already built, already compiled EBI1 kernel, and that did work nicely. Phew.
Thanks for the tool and the help - I couldn't have done it without your help.

Does your phone boot into the ROM?
I should probably explain a bit:
So my phone is caught at the "HTC Magic" screen at the startup. It won't go on any farther than that. When I hold down the VOLUME DOWN key and press the END key, I can bring up the screen that states the following:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
The screen does give me some menu options:
HBOOT
<BACK> FastBoot Mode
<SEND> Simlock
When I press BACK, I get another set of menu options:
FASTBOOT
<VOL DOWN> HBoot Mode
<SEND> Reset Device
<ACTION> Restart to HBoot
<MENU> Power Down
..did that answer your question? ..i'm not sure.. LOL!
Yeah, so it's not booting into the ROM. Did you have root before? Did you have a custom recovery installed? Can you get into it by pressing home+power?
I bought the phone off of ebay so I don't know what was programmed on the phone before I got it.. :/

Your going to have to root using the goldcard method. A Google search of "root 32A magic goldcard" should get you were you need to be.
Okay, so I'm sorry to be such a noob, but I got everything ready for a Goldcard (cable and a new kingston SD), but then what I need is to set up the ADB which requires me to connect the phone to a computer.. I cannot access anything on the phone via the computer except for the memory.. the drivers won't install.
I'm using this website's instructions:
/theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/[/url]
So, the second step is to create an ADB, and then the third requires me to access the phone itself and unmount the SD.. I'm kind of at a loss at this point..
what should I do?
You'll have to see if a friend has a phone that you can borrow to make the goldcard. The steps will be the same and it'll work on any phone running Android.

Fastboot FAILED... (remote: not allowed) problem!!

Hello everyone!
I need help with my phone ASAP. I recently tried to get Ginger Yoshi 1.5 on my phone but I needed to change my Spl and radio to 1.33.2010 and 3.22.20.17. I managed to change them both but that's when everything started going bad. When I changed them my phone went from 32A to 32B, at that moment I thought something had went wrong so I flashed back my Spl to what I think it was the stock Spl 1.33.0013. After that it went back to 32A but the radio remained 3.22.20.17. I havent changed it back or anything because now my phone is kinda bricked. I only have access to fastboot\hboot screen, but when I try to flash something it wont let me saying "FAILED (remote: not allowed)". If I try to update Hboot mode it says "Model ID incorrect! Update Fail!".
I have been searching for a solution but I haven't seen anybody else with my spl and radio combination. I'm starting to give up hope on my phone . I don't know what to do anymore. I need some help.
Yes, I'm a newbie at this. I think this is my third time changing a ROM.
Thanks in advanced for any help and/or advice!

Hi there! If by that you mean if I can actually boot a ROM then I can't, it stays in the HTC Magic screen. Or if you mean if I can get adb connection with cmd I can't also because it does not recognizes my phone. All I get access to is fastboot and hboot, though it doesn't work either.. I try to flash a new radio, spl or recovery image but it does not works. Maybe I need a new goldcard? Since it says model ID incorrect.
Thanks for your help!
Your phone is MyTouch 3G v1.2 with audiojack 3.5" and it is NOT common 32A. Don't use manuals for Magic 32A.
You flashed wrong combo and it is main problem. May be this manual will help, but i have no guarantee
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/
p.s. Megaupload links are dead cause US District Court shutdowned this site)
http://www.4shared.com/zip/hW3I1tfT/MyTouch35RootingFiles.html
http://www.4shared.com/zip/ALht1xbT/unlockr_Sappimg_mt3gv12.html
p.p.s. And you need goldcard. Must have goldcard to flash special sappimg.zip
Tech reasons of solution:
- you have perfected HBoot and can't flash anything by 'fastboot flash' command
- you have wrong radio (combo, cause hboot and radio must be together)
- if you will flash special sappimg.zip you will have 1.33.2010 s-off eng hboot. With this hboot you can flash your stock combo back (and don't forget about custom recovery for mt3g v1.2)
Yes my phone is the Fender LE. I found out that even though they say 32A they're actually 32B as well. What a way to get confused. And as you said, some links are broken because of megaupload no longer existing . I couldn't find the files that I needed. My phone is now fixed running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 (I gave up trying to flash ginger yoshi, I don't lke the idea of having to change spl and radio).
After I found out what I had to do to fix it I thought that it wasn't so big of a deal, just flash a sappimg file with a diferent Spl and that is it, S-off and an Eng spl.
Though when it said "Model ID incorrect" I had no idea why that happened. I had to open the Hex editor again an re-edit my Sd card's code with the goldcard I had created before. After that everything went back to normal, I flashed CM6 and now my phone is up and running like a charm!
I've seen some other users with the same problem I had, maybe if someine would explain them what they need to do to fix it would be a good idea.
Thanks for explaining! And for the links.
This is what I now have:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.xx.xx (I forgot the last 4 numbers )
Running CM6.1.0
Now can not download the Stock rom with root for MT3G 32A 1.2 because all the link are dead. Could you please give a helping hand?
Thank

[Q] Sapp310 32 A Can't exit Ruu mode

I used to rooted and unlocked this phone. And installed a rom. Then I think I installed a wrong HBOOT or a radio and it bricked. I tried to debrick but it didn't work. Then I put the phone aside for a while. Now I want to make it work again. I did a lot stuff on it that I don't remember. Now phone starts in RUU mode.
I'm a noob so I don't know every commands or how these things work so I followed some guides but I've got errors every time. Is my phone bricked totally? Is JTAG necessary? or is there a way to get out from RUU mode and install correct HBOOT and RADIO? or if those correct than what am I doing wrong? This is a My Touch 3G T-mobile. And it says Sapp310 under the battery and there's an A next to barcodes. I don't know if it means 32A or not.
Recently the phone has
