[Q] HELP!Did I bricked my phone? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

It is not boot with "HTC Magic" text on black background and stalled at all. And, I even can not boot it in recover (using HOME+POWER) or in HBOOT (using BACK+POWER) ...
It happened after I flash it with a Google ION radio image following the guide found in http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html#s1.
My phone was (before):
----------------------------
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP*****)
CPLD-10
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Jun 2 2009, 17:27:03
----------------------------
What I did exactly is below:
1. 'adb push' the radio image (ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip) into the /sdcard/update.zip
2. In Amon_RA's recovery tool, flashed the /sdcard/update.zip. When got the prompt I reboot the phone using menu.
3. It seems rebooted but stay in another strange screen that I never saw: that is an open box, beside that stands a green adroid robot.
4. I feel the screen stay too long and seemed halt, then I removed the battery and try to boot again.
From now on, in whatevery method, I can only get a dead screen with "HTC Magic" white text on a whole dark screen.
Can I save my phone? I am crying .... What's wrong in my steps?
HELP!

It's dead fo' shizzle.
I assume it was a Rogers Magic (32A)? I know the SPL says it'd 32B, but I've seen people flash all kinds of crap and end up with hboot showing the wrong board, and I'm pretty sure that's a 32A radio you're running. You flashed a radio image for 32B to a 32A phone... you shouldn't have done that.

Actually I also suspect if it is really a 32B as HBOOT said, since in a recovery flashing process I found Amon_RA's 32A version works but 32B does not. I posted the question in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750307, but no one reply to me! If you saw the thread and see something earlier, my phone can be saved
So, my question is, is there no any solution to recovery my phone any more?

HELP! Can't boot android, recovery, or fastboot!

I did something bad to my magic (ION). I was tying to get a non perfect spl so i applied a rom that gave me a htc build. Fine . Then I was trying to get back to a stock ion build using the guide on developer.htc.com. I applied the radio update as read, and once I did, when I tried to reboot, all i got was the htc magic boot screen. I cannot get into fastboot, nor recovery mode. My ion was not rooted and had the normal recovery. The last time I went into fastboot it said this:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010
CPLD-10
Radio 3(2?).22.20.17
I got the that rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
The radio I tried to apply was 2.22.19.26I. Maybe something was wrong with the .zip that I created with adb?
Please help me. Is there anything I can do? I am not a developer or a leet hacker. I just wanted to get cyanogenmod but took a few missteps along the way.

Magics thinks its 32A (Recovery Issue)

Hi,
I got a Vodafone Magic (UK).
It was on Android 1.6, so I reverted it back to 1.5 using the .zip file on theunlockr's site (After trying a failing at using eMagi's/Neoblade's .nbh file). I then tried to use Recovery Flasher to flash a new recovery, yet everytime I tried to flash it, I would only get a red vodafone screen where my recovery screen should be. So then I checked the fast-boot screen where it said all the details for my phone. And it read Sapphire PVT 32B HIP S-ON H which as you all know is wrong as (as far as I know) all 32B magic's should be G.
It was definetely a 'G' before yet must of somehow changed when reverting to android 1.5.
So after failing flashing a new recovery (from Recovery flasher/ Terminal Emulator/ Fastboot) I tried 'fastboot boot <amon ra recovery image>.img' - H version and sure enough it booted.
So my problem is that I know i've got a 32B handset which thinks its 32a.
(BTW I am in the process of rooting). How do you guys think I should proceed? Also can you tell me what precautions to take to make sure I don't brick my phone?
Thanks guys!

Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
Radio ?
I think your problem is due to your 3.x radio.
Try to flash a 2.x radio, either 2.22.19.26I you can find in HTC's developer website, or the newer 2.22.23.02 radio you can find in the G1 dev forum.
DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK RADIO COMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR HBOOT
To get your Magic fully 32B - you must flash official RUU for 32B Magics ... or ...
this nbh for UK Vodafone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4884067&postcount=1
p.s. nbh for UK, so you probably need create goldcard as you have Vodafone NZ
Goldcard avoids Customer ID check

Help needed ! Sapphire Unknown 32A

Hi,
I tried to update my Htc Magic to run the Latest Android on it.
So I followed the procedure on Unlockr to update SPL, RADIO, etc...After several updates, flash and reboot I am stuck.
I have only two choices:
- FASTBOOT
- " HTC MAGIC "logo
I am not able to go back to the phone first state. Even if I try to boot using "fastboot boot recovery image...."
What I have on the HBOOT now is:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33-0006 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Hope you can tell me to bring my phone back ?!?
Thank you
If you hold down (home+power) does it bring up a recovery screen? Will be green and black and say which recovery mod it is at the bottom. You may have to hold them down for up to a minute before it loads up. Also, it already looks like you didn't flash the hboot correctly or something. Do you have the myTouch with the 3.5mm jack? Which guide did you use at Unlockr? If you can't link it, what is the How To title?

[SOLVED] for sure bricked?

I was looking for sense roms for my mytouch 3g 1.2 and found one that required the radio to be updated to 6.35 ( i double and triple checked to make sure the steps and procedures were specifically for the mytouch with the 32a board ) but after I followed the directions, my phone became unresponsive. It stayed at the HTC Magic screen for about an hour before I turned my phone off and back on again to undo what I had done ( using previous experience from a screw-up I did several months back...basically using the goldcard method to re-root my phone as if it were "new" again ). My problem is, now it's more unresponsive than it was before. it pauses at system - unzipping every time i try to use hboot to load the sappimg.zip. right now my current stats are:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-3.22.20.17

and loads up a red vodafone bootscreen. i honestly think my problem was accidentally pressing the wrong link on Amon_RA's thread about perfected SPL, and i didn't realize it until it was too late... I cannot flash anything thru fastboot, hboot basically stops at system - unzipping when trying to run the sappimg.zip, and "fastboot boot recovery.img" loads the red vodafone screen, but doesn't flash boot the recovery so i can try and fix it with recovery...
all i need to know is if it's entirely bricked, or if i can still save it, and if so, a little nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated...i have been searching google, xda-developers, cyanogenmod, androidforums, etc. for the past 3 days and cannot, for the life of me, find out how to fix the issue...
EDIT: as always, when i ask for help, i end up fixing it somehow...

Magic stuck on "htc magic" boot screen after Engineering SPL... and bad Nandroid, ugh

Magic stuck on "htc magic" boot screen after Engineering SPL... and bad Nandroid, ugh
Please help, I'm stuck on a boot screen, compounded by an apparently bad Nandroid backup
I just got a Rogers Magic so I can get 3G on AT&T. (couldn't with my T-mo G1) Rooted it, installed the RA-Sapphire recovery and took two Nandroid backups (one with, one without Ext)
Here was my starting point:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
Plan was to install Cyanogen 6.1.0 (like my G1). This requires that I downgrade the radio, and I was planning on using RadioSwitcher tool to make life simpler.
The tool requires an engineering SPL be installed, and points to this Magic SPL Hboot collection thread
I've downloaded and/or tried (in this order):
Stock: 1.76.0010 (as noted above)
Engineering SPL 1.33.2010 (from the SPL collection thread the tool instructions pointed to)
1.76.2007 SPL (from the Cyanogen Wiki on Magic 32A with 6.35 radio)
Engineering SPL 1.33.2009 (from the SPL collection thread the tool instructions are pointed to)
So when I tried using the tool to switch the radio to a Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17 [supplied], I got these results:
Stock 1.76.0010 - tool won't update radio without an engineering SPL. Device boots up no problem.
Engineering 1.33.2010 - tool uses Fastboot, I see progress bar, then screen goes black and tool reports "Radio update: FAILURE". Device now won't boot, hangs on "htc magic" boot screen.
Tried to restore - Nandroid restore issue noted below.
Engineering 1.76.2007 - same progress bar/black screen, update "FAILURE", and device won't boot.
Engineering 1.33.2009 - same progress bar/black screen, update "FAILURE", and device won't boot.
(I tried posting on that Radioswitcher thread but it's locked or closed or I'm just not able to post on it.)
I don't feel comfortable randomly trying SPL's, especially as I'm guessing there's simply a lack of understanding on my part as to which SPL is compatible with my current phone/radio. I'm hoping someone here can help with that.
Currently, this is how the phone sits:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.33.2009 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
...not able to boot, not able to restore:
I can get into recovery, but it's also testing me:
When I try to flash anything from SD, I get "E: can't mount SDCARD:" If I select "USB-MS Toggle" then disable it and come back, then it appears to work - but doesn't give me warm and fuzzies.
Nandroid restore - either backup gives "Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb!"
That really makes me uncomfortable and puts me a bit out of my comfort zone - I was counting on the Nandroid backup as my safety net... never had any issues with my G1 and Clockworkmod recovery.
Thankfully, I have the trusty G1 I can plug my SIM card into to use as a phone...
But I really need to get this working or it's a lot of money, and hopes, down the drain.
Help - please!
I used this guide to root my phone to begin with - I see there's an engineering SPL option in there also.
Although I said I wasn't going to try pot-shot SPL attempts, this was part of the rooting process I followed originally, and someone suggested that I try that one.
I can't boot my phone so I couldn't follow that process exactly, but I extracted the SPL file from that zip file and put it on the SD card using my PC, then booted into recovery to flash that Eng SPL...
...and still the Magic won't boot up. I can't tell if this is even any different than the previous SPL - or rather if the problem preventing boot is a problem, if it's tied to the SPL (numerous SPL-swaps would seem to indicate no?) and if it's different.
Now I'm here:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.2007 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
Stop...you have an eng spl... Thats all what you need!
You are working the BLIND...
For every spl there are matching radios...
For the 1.76.2007 spl, you can use any 6.35 radio for magic.
For the 1.33.20xx(xx can be 04,05,10) you can use 3.22 radios.
All the above are eng spl, which basically gives extends read/write permissions.
With the eng you can flash what ever partition you want, e.g. system, radio or recovery.
The reason you can't boot is that you have **** up your system.... That we can fix easy :0)
Radio/spl **** ups -> not to so easy to fix.
You have a good combo now, let's get you a good system.
First, you need to flash a different recovery to make sure it works with the 6.35 radio.
Download my fastboot commander tool (magic version, check my signature) and it will do it for you the easy way.
When you have the tool, go to magic 32A tab.
There you can find two buttons, one for 6.35 radio combo a.k.a new radio.
You also find one for 3.22 radio a.k.a. old radio.
The tool will flash an entire combo of radio, spl and recovery that matches :0)
so... this what you have to do, choose 1 and only 1:
1) use the tool to flash "new" combo, reboot into recovery and flash any rom that is for the new radio (6.35). Check out the development sections for roms.
2) use the tool to flash "old" combo, reboot into recovery and flash any rom that is for the old radio (3.22). E.g. cyanogenmod from this page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_version#MagicCM6
Remember to flash the EBI 1 kernel or else the system will not boot.
The gapps (at the buttom of the page) are optional but recommend :0)
Good luck, and stop working the BLIND!
Sounds good...
Should I expect that after flashing the "old" images, that I'd be able to boot my phone into the stock OS again (1.5 with Sense)?
Or should I just skip that [if that's not a good test] and just proceed with loading the Cyanogen ROM?
Very much appreciated, and thanks again.
Also, one thing I'm concerned with - I've seen some notes along the way that the Magic requires a custom Kernel to install Cyanogen... I'm not sure what the Kernel really even is. Do you have any insight into that?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=How_to_build_a_kernel_port_for_CM6
I've got the 32A - but those instructions are hardly 'download this file and flash':
"If you want to build a EBI1 kernel port package to get it to run on a 32A Magic (with 288 MB total RAM), or a phone with the 3.xxx radio such as the Rogers 32A Magic and Rogers Dream, then you can follow the instructions below:"
...and those instructions are long, and most intimidatingly - vague (much is implied, not all explicitly stated).
Yikes...
..........
I flashed the "old", and the phone now gets stuck in a boot loop on the "Rogers" (before the "HTC Magic" where it was getting stuck before).
The recovery is still the RA-sapphire-v1.7.OH... is that the Amon Ra?
I'll take a backup in this state, test-restore it (I know from experience with my G1 that the "HTC Magic" splash screen will be replaced with a Cyanogenmod one, with the Cyano 6.1.0) then put the Cyanogen on there and cross my fingers that I don't need to mess with that Kernel procedure...
EDIT:
I have a backup that restores - unfortunately it puts me back to the original "can't boot" state, lol.
Anyway, so after I took that backup, I proceeded to flash Cyano and the tiny Gapps.
I'm still getting hung on the Rogers screen - the Cyanogenmod boot screen doesn't come up.
WTF, you know?
EDIT 2:
I forgot to list my current state:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Let me know if you can help, thanks
i think now you can boot into recovery and wipe everything and then try to flash the rom from sd card/
READ what is written...
You are still messing **** up...
You cannot boot ANYTHING until you get a working system on the device...
You keep "booting" to nothing because there is NOTHING to boot...
STOP for a second and READ.
I have giving you 2 options... do one of them...
The Cyanogenmod need EBI 1 kernel which you can find on the same page i gave you..
if you read the instructions, you also find i have written that...
Once again to be sure, flash EBI 1 kernel after the CM rom, then you flash gapps and you should be good to go...
Or flash "new" combo and download this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778083
I can't help any more if you don't READ before you act!
I did... wanted to take it one conservative step at a time... operating with a bad backup here... ;-) And that Kernel page on the Cyanogen wiki is just evil... it should have a source to download one and apply, for us mere mortals lol.
I downloaded an already built, already compiled EBI1 kernel, and that did work nicely. Phew.
Thanks for the tool and the help - I couldn't have done it without your help.
Okay, so question! I've got the same problem this person has with the starting point:

HBOOT- 1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
From this point, would I use the same process to get my phone to work?
..I'm a programming noob.

Does your phone boot into the ROM?
I should probably explain a bit:
So my phone is caught at the "HTC Magic" screen at the startup. It won't go on any farther than that. When I hold down the VOLUME DOWN key and press the END key, I can bring up the screen that states the following:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
The screen does give me some menu options:
HBOOT
<BACK> FastBoot Mode
<SEND> Simlock
When I press BACK, I get another set of menu options:
FASTBOOT
<VOL DOWN> HBoot Mode
<SEND> Reset Device
<ACTION> Restart to HBoot
<MENU> Power Down
..did that answer your question? ..i'm not sure.. LOL!
Yeah, so it's not booting into the ROM. Did you have root before? Did you have a custom recovery installed? Can you get into it by pressing home+power?
I bought the phone off of ebay so I don't know what was programmed on the phone before I got it.. :/

The HOME+POWER buttons bring me to a screen where there's a picture of a "!" inside of a triangle by the phone..
Your going to have to root using the goldcard method. A Google search of "root 32A magic goldcard" should get you were you need to be.
Okay, so I'm sorry to be such a noob, but I got everything ready for a Goldcard (cable and a new kingston SD), but then what I need is to set up the ADB which requires me to connect the phone to a computer.. I cannot access anything on the phone via the computer except for the memory.. the drivers won't install.
I'm using this website's instructions:
/theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/[/url]
So, the second step is to create an ADB, and then the third requires me to access the phone itself and unmount the SD.. I'm kind of at a loss at this point..
what should I do?
You'll have to see if a friend has a phone that you can borrow to make the goldcard. The steps will be the same and it'll work on any phone running Android.
