before i go ahead and buy the orange m3100 version of the tytn, can anyone tell me how easy it is to remove all the installed orange rubbish from it? and will it void the warranty if i do so? or it it best just to live with it?
never had a windows based phone before
cheers!
If you mean the orange branded home screen rubbish that they seem to love putting on most of their phones then this is quite easy, just go into the today screen settings, items, and untick the orange option, this will see you back to a normal pda.
cool! didn't realise it was that easy!
thanks!
I haven't had direct experience with an Orange device but I do know that it is not quite that simple with an o2 device. If you change homescreen, all it does it change the theme rather than get rid of the o2 UI (which takes up about half the screen whic useless links and icons!).
However the solution to this is not too complicated either. All you need to do is do a hard reset and then do a soft reset before the extended ROM installs. This will definitely leave you with a non-branded device, although you might have to reinstall one or two useful apps that get installed with the extended ROM (eg. when I did it I had to reinstall the smart dialler).
Hope this helps and apologies to Nightshot if I am wrong about Orange devices. As I said I haven't had to do this on an Orange device.
To really get shot of it you can soft reset your device after the initial setup but before the customisation setups run. This will stop the Orange customisation running and leave you with a vanilla WM5 device.
Then you can install the cab files in extended rom without installing the orange customization CABs.
You can find instructions on how to access your extended rom on the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unhide_Extrom
If you do it, please post your extended rom here (we still don't have the orange ExtROM contents!):
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms
nice one.
thanks to all for the info.
pof: i don't actually have one yet - just wanted to make sure i wasn't making a mistake getting an orange branded device that i couldn't de-customise.
thanks!
i've just done it
got a m3100 today and removing the orange stuff is one of my 1st jobs. I removed the xda 2i o2 stuff by registering as a corporation but saw no kind of option on the m3100. I deselected orange from the today options and set it to windows default. I dont know if still having the orange stuff on device will cause slow down. doesn't appear too.
I did this to allow me to sync with my Mac but I now don't have my MMS settings and video calling.
How do you get around this?

You did what? Not installing the customized CABS (e.g. the Ext ROM)?
If so, you need to get a copy of the Ext ROM for your orange, and find the file that is responsible for the MMS and Video calling. You can either search in this forum (not sure if there is), or just guess by their names.
I hard reset then prior to the orange customisation/ cabs loading did a soft reset - the 'phone works fine apart from mms and video messaging. I've tried running the MMS cab from Extended ROM, then soft resetting - loading onto device but this doesn't bring MMS back.
Any ideas?
Hi
i am having a problem with browing any website on my PPC, the problem is that when i try to open any webpage it stalls on 1kb and it only opens the page partially.
I read another post and they managed to solve this by selecting the correct encoding which was Western European. is there any other possible reasons why this type of behaviour will be experienced on the device?
hope te hear from the superior knowledge of the forum members.

I had that problem when I used one of the custom roms. When I flashed the stock t-mobile ROM, it went away almost completely. Once in a great while it'll happen but I'm talking like twice since going with a stock rom. Couldn't tell you what the difference was as the stock rom performance was fine and I didn't really care enough to look into it further.

I'm pretty sure it's a connection issue (I've had similar problems with, say, non-CrEme 4.1 + Toonel pre .54 combinations - see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel45.asp for more info).
BTW, what ROM do you have?
MTU settings could it be the reason ??
Hi
Just to let you no, recently i travelled to another country and i decided to get a sim card and test my device in this country, surprisingly it worked fine i could browse with no problems.
only from in my country on my network do i get this strange behaviour.
Do u think its related to the MTU settings ? if i adjust this then mayb it will allow me to browse, judging from your response i noticed that this option that you suggested is to reduce bandwidth usage therefore allowing to view pages faster.
Thanks kindly
reo
Yeah, this seems to be a problem with your wireless operator. (You could still give a try to it in a, say, inexpensive, GPRS-capable "dumb" phone like the S-E t68i / t610 connected to your PDA / notebook)

You can surely give a try to Toonel (I've BTW linked in Toonel because, under WM5, the (old) Java version has exactly the same problems with old(er) Java environments - I've elaborated on this problem a lot in my articles. That is, the problem was similar to that of yours).
thanks for your help it is most informative, i am currently loading the toonel to test and i will post my results here.
thanks again

setup using newer versions of the program, i hope it does not create an incorrect behviour.
setup toonel have just a quick query
Hi
i have managed to setup toonel version .50, using creme 4.21. i have pIE and this all on a WM5 OS.
i did not utilise the link i just executed directly from the toonel.jar file.
now it is running but i would like to just clearify that i done it correctly.
about the connections i used the method u suggested and created a new connection under the top selection which is used for programs to connect directly to the internet and named it toonel, and made all the adjustments on proxy, i also put the details of the modem which is the GPRS connection for my country.
now i am ready to use.
i have a question about the tab in Toonel called WEB, is there any setting that i should have setup in here, it has a an option called Parent Proxy address.
Regards
reo
HI
ok, i had to reset the device for things to start working properly.
now i hve to use the link, it doesnt set creme as the default JVM. so after i execute i get an error saying **cant find class client.WebUI
im sure there it is a path issue, but not sure about where is the web.ui
reo
Don't struggle with the Java version - use the new PPC-based one. See http://pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/ConfigureToonel54.asp .
(Sorry, I've linked in the older Java version because it produced exactly the same symptomps under WM5 as yoour case, not because it's the Toonel version I recommend for you.)
hi
ok, i see. the behaviour i am experincing you noticed it using Toonel java version.
have you get any ideas what could be causing my problem ?
Now we no that it is probably a problem at my network, however is there any way to over come this ?
i actually noticed 1 thing, Magician S100 QTEK works on my network properly!!
any ideas what could be the difference ?
what are the chances that it is related to the UAProfile ? if so how could it effect the browsing ?

no luck with toonnel with "unlimited internet tzones"
now that tzones offers "unlimited internet" ( http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2006/12/got_tmobile_tzo.html ) I tried to use toonel with my wizard to speed up the connexion but didn't have any chance ... I tried the 3 versions on http://toonel.net/downloads.html (I even installed the Creme JVM) though ... some ports must still be closed ...
any idea/comment anybody ?
PS :
the good thing with "tzones unlimited internet" is that I can now use opera mini, gmail java, google maps java, etc ...
i had the same problem with uk tmobile. i called them and they said it would be fixed soon-and a few days later it was!!
maybe call your network provider before messing with your phone settings

Um, I've had a search everywhere for this: can anyone get vodafone live! on their v1605? I was assured by VF CS at least twice that it 'worked fine' and 'mobile tv, no problem' on the device, but i'm thinking this might have been a cunning marketing ploy..
help gratefully appreciated..
I was told Voda CS that the handset isn't compatibale with Live. I've not tried accessing. What is the link? I've always had a shortcut on all my other phones.
You can access live and tv although it is not supported. First off you need the UA string of a device that does support live (i.e. Nokia N70) - this is not just "NokiaN70" - there is a whole load of other stuff as well. Then one needs to do what is listed in this thread re the connection/proxy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29595&highlight=gprs+always
Thanks very much mate: works a treat and I'm now watching mobile TV atop my shiny new v1605, huzzah!
Can you post the link you are using? I don't know anyone else with a Vodafone to get this... Thx
Any help using HTC TyTN with vodafone Spain???
Thanks in advance

Hello Together,
here's solution on how to get Blackberry Connect running on Topaz:
Instructions:
------------
- Make sure you have uninstalled blackberry connect before doing the following.
- Attached you will find a small zipped executable (EnableBBCTopaz.exe). Unzip it and copy it over to the \windows\ folder of your device.
- Open a registry editor and navigate to HKLM\init
Create a new string with the name "Launch130" and a value of "EnableBBCTopaz.exe" (without the quotes of course)
If Launch130 already exists, choose a number higher than, it doesn't really matter, just make sure it is higher than the other entries so it get started after everything else.
This makes sure the exe ist started after every softreset.
- Make a softreset, or execute the EnableBBCTopaz.exe manually.
- The program changes your model-id from "HTC-Topaz" to "HTC-Raphael" in memory
- Install Blackberry Connect like you usually do (My tests where successfull with version 4.0.0.104, 4.0.0.106 didn't work for me -- just hung up after a restart)
- After installation and the auto-reset through BBC open the BBC settings and go to the Info-Tab. Under device-name there should now be HTC-Raphael.

The solution is in fact the one from Rhodium forum, the respect goes to them, in particular to c0rnholio. The instructions are also copied from their thread. I just changed the program to fit to Topaz.
hi gnick.
Thanks a lot for providing a solution for this issue, but I cannot get it working...
The Client keeps stating: "PIN Pending". When I try to register the account the data tunnel gets established for a second but then it gets disconnected again.
The SIM is working fine in a Blackberry.
I already tried to reinstall the BB Client several times, but I always got the same results.
The device-ID is set to HTC-Raphael, so that shouldn't cause any issues.
Additionally I tried to kill the bbmain.exe and suspended the log and security services and reenabled them after a few seconds, but still no success.
If you have any further hints on what to try, pls. let me know...
Thanks in advance,
TheOmen666
Which blackberry client version do you have?

Hmm, hard to tell, really.
Which provider do you have? Your provider needs to support HTC Raphael.
Mine (Vodafone Germany) does support HTC Raphael (Touch Pro).

Thanks for the tip, but I too cannot get it to work. It did work in my HTC Diamond (that's Diamond "1", not "2"). I wonder - can you change the programme to suit the Diamond 1 instead please? I mean Diamond 1 instead of HTC Raphael. I wonder if this will make a difference.
By the way, does anyone know if RIM will bring out any software to make this all work?
Hi mitsi, did it work at the end?

Hi Gnick, partly. I got it to work with stopping the Blackberry Service and then activating the programme (your one) after a soft reset. However, after every soft reset, I will need to do the same process.
Open MemMaid
Stop Blackberry Service
Open File Explorer
Start your programme
Open File Explorer
Start BlackberryMain.exe
Close File Explorer
Enjoy emails.
This is too much like hard work, so I think I will be either selling my Diamond 2 and going back to my Diamond 1 or keeping both, using the Diamond 1 and waiting for a better fix to become available by subscribing to this thread (and others) and hoping that decent clever chaps like yourself will come up with a fix!!!
By the way, one other item that needs fixing is that I am only able to have my work email on this. I do not have the Blackberry Secure Internet (the one to send service packs and add other email accounts). So I can't get my home email..
There is one other alternative by the way:
This is to write a Mortscript programme that does this tedious process automatically.... I have made enquiries to someone I know....
@gnick
Thats a good point, asking for the Provider...
Well I checked the websites of T-Mobile Germany and the last device I found, where you could officially download the bbconnect client was the "Kaiser" (Mda Vario III, HTC TyTN II, AT&T Tilt ).
This means, that I either have to get rid of my Topaz or convince you to make a special version where the model-id is set to the one of the Kaiser (I only found "KAIS120") but I am absolutely unsure wether this is the korrekt model id used for the bbconnect client.

TheOmen666
Hi All,
I finally got it working.
As I am running WM 6.5 on my device, I had to change the AKU String in the Registry HKLM\System\Versions to ".1.6.3".
After changing this, I got a PIN and could do the Enterprise Activation with my account.
Thanks a lot to all for the effort to get this working on the Topaz.
Cheers,
TheOmen666
Hi All,
I too got it working. I followed the tips on this thread and on the one by cOrnholio with the following notes:
AKU set to .1.6.1
BBC version 104 worked (106 didn't) just as you said gnick .
Blackberry still crashes Manila sometimes when deleting the last email and exiting tmail.
I cannot activate my other email accounts as the Blackberry Browser (I think this is BES) does not load, even after the prompt "The internet connection is currently in use by the BlackBerry browser. Would you like to temporarily disable BlackBerry browsing? Yes/No". Once disabled and refreshed, it still does not connect. I think I read this on cOrnholio's thread.
Sent mail from pc does not redirect mail to the sent mail folder on the D2 but into the inbox instead.
The soft reset problem still exists, but it does at least work. My D2 has now had emails for the last 3 days.... Fortunately the D2 is more stable than the D1 so soft resets are required less often.
My thanks go to gnick and cOrnholio for this. I can now use my D2!
By the way, I have made some simple shortcuts which make the process following a soft reset simpler:
Add shortcut to BBMain.exe to the start menu
Add shortcut to MemMaid to the start menu
Set MemMaid to re-open at same page in Advanced Settings
A couple more tips for new people at this:
Be patient. Sometimes you can try the same solution more than twice and get different results
Be patient. The IP Address and PIN don't always appear immediately.....
Regards

Hello mitsi, setting the "Launch130" key in the registry to EnableBBCTopaz.exe as described in the instruction in the first posting should ensure that EnableBBCTopaz.exe starts automatically befire BBC. This is the "clever" way to autostart it without doing any manual work. If it doesnt autostart, that could mean that you have a spelling error in the regkey name, regkey value, or that you havent placed the file in the \windows folder.

Hi gnick,
I must admit, I haven't checked this, but I have had problems before with Blackberry. Because our IT Dept in their wisdom have set the security to lock the phone after 60 minutes of inactivity, I keep having to unlock it. I have a Mortscript programme which does this for me thanks to EdSub, but it would appear that Blackberry takes a higher pecking order after a soft reset so the Mortscript isn't activated before Blackberry, no matter how I try to configure it. Therefore, I suspect Blackberry will start before your programme too, so it would then think the phone is a D2 instead of a Rafael immediately after soft reset.....
If your Blackberry has the Security Policy set by your IT Department, you too may have this issue, but otherwise, it may be possible to start your programme before Blackberry starts.
Isn't it all rather silly??? The things we do to get our phones to our liking eh???

It shouldn't take longer than a few minutes. You may be able to help it on it's way by going into Blackberry settings, then in the Utility tab, press "Register Now". Then if you go to the Identy tab your PIN and IP address should appear hopefully.
nothing appens when i press "activate now "....

News from HTC
Hi All,
For your information, I sent the following question to HTC:
"Dear Sirs, I have an HTC Touch Diamond 2. I have requested information before on how to get Blackberry Connect working on this phone but had the response "we don't support third party applications". This is fair enough, but please see this link: http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=497&news_id=61. If you support this on other HTC phones, then why not the Diamond 2? Do you have plans to develop this further? I would appreciate your help/comments on this please."
I received this response from HTC:
"New Response From [ Mike (EU team) ]
Hi Paul,
The link you found is for Asian devices, not European ones.
Blackberry Connect is not supported by HTC Europe and there are no plans to release the 3rd party application or test its compatibility.
Please contact Research In MOtion to see if there is compatible version for your device.
Best Regards
Mike"
Hopefully they will change their minds in the future. Has anyone tried RIM?

had to wait only because my orange data network was pending ...

Change custom user-agent in opera:config to sgh-i900 & save. Exit Opera then go back to BBC iplayer & it should now work.
Actually found out HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 works better
TBOy, tried that but no luck. Do you have to clear out all the other gubbins in there first?
I changed HD2 to Hd and 8585 to 8282 but left the rest alone....
thanks
no clear EVERYTHING and put the above.
sorry to ask what is probably a very basic question but where is opera:config? I'm a bit new to all this so an idiots guide would be much appreciated
I second that, total noob to winmo, haven't a clue either how to do this
i think you type it into the adress bar, same with firefox core settings
The current Opera 9.7 version on the HD2 is not detected by the BBC iplayer website. Here is a modifcation to Opera preferences you can do to get it to work.
Launch Opera and type: opera:config in the url bar. No http:// prefix.
Find the User Prefs at the bottom of the list and then scroll down to Custom User-Agent.
Delete all text in the field and enter only HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 into the box and make sure you press Save (all the way down at the bottom of User Prefs).
Exit Opera and restart it.
Now go to http://bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer. Videos are opened in your Streaming App on your phone.
Many thanks, and cheers for being patient with the noobs.
+1 on the patience.
Incidentally, I found editing the line doesn't work; you have to do as stated ie delete ALL of it and then re-enter from scratch.
Thanks Again...
Hi Tboy, thank you for the reply- I think it's working, can't try yet as I don't have a wireless connection, which leads me to another issue...
The iPlayer claims that you can only stream over 3G on the Vodafone and 3 networks (UK), and that I should stream over wifi. I'm actually with Vodafone so does anyone know why I'm getting this message and can't stream over 3G? Is it anything to do with HSDPA being enabled?
Thanks in advance!
I was about to ask this exact same question. If you're having trouble with iPlayer you could try using the myplayer application. It works best with CorePlayer installed, but you can stream stuff using the Streaming Media Player and play iPlayer downloads using TCPMP.
