Can anyone confirm if BBCiPlayer is compatible with Opera 9.5.
I'm a Nokia n95 8gb user, soon to return to WM when Expansys deliver my early Christmas/late birthday present.
Wouldnt it be soo cool to watch bbc iplayer on this baby!!
Same Here
I am returning back to my WM. I had an iPhone, used for two weeks but did not like it, too complicated, so gone for sale.. now I am returning to my WM and just order my new Touch HD from expansys today. Window mobile are much easy to use and simply the best. I like to see HTC add more useful features on this new Touch HD before final release.
Waiting Time
Thats great. I hope you don't have to wait too long being you just preordered recently.
I know many at xda-dev forum ( including myself ) and elsewhere have been on that one form of preordering list since the phone was made official.
I hope Expansys don't keep everyone waiting too long after they get stock.
not bothered about it running on the touch to be honest (have a kaiser)
but i'm surprised theres little talk about getting iplayer working properly on windows mobile in general .
i've heard that opera and flash works, but i cant get it working at all
can anyone (surely someone in the know must do) confirm/deny if it is at all possible?

Yes. I Second that. iPlayer is as much a killer app to me as youtube.
Am I the only one who is keen to use their mobile to watch the BEEB ?
+1
Yeah I'm massive I Player fan. I used to listen to 5Live every morning in the bathroom with my Wizard and Wifi. I think the Beeb changed something as it suddenly stopped working with Realplayer 1.
I am surprised its taking this long to get a solution for WM for I player. I have just moved to a Diamond and will move to a Touch HD later next year.
I hope anyone doing searches for IPhone apps comes across our discussions about an I-Player... !
I believe the HD has crossed the seas and is now in the UK, well the preview batch anyways..
Could anyone that has the HD confirm if it works with the BEEB ??

Just reviewing stock status across a number of suppliers - seems the release date in the UK has been brought forward to the 7th November - maybe even sooner! Both Play and Expansys have revised "ready to ship" dates?
.
I have spoken to a friend at orange who says they have sHD stock arriving today for sale on Monday 3rd. He has be saying this all week and is a very reliable source.

I have a HD on order from Handtec.com and should have it on the 12th (or earlier) - I already have the Raphael and have been testing on a regular basis with Opera 9.5 and the latest Flash release - there was some improvement but its still not actually showing the streaming video?
As far as I'm aware there is still no i-Player codec for either Core Player or Windows Media Player. I think that the issue is one for the BBC to resolve rather than a hardware problem (i.e. once it works it will work on all Win Mob Pro phones that can show video?)
So..... unless HTC have a new Opera version just for the HD (Possible) or have negotiated with the BBC (As Apple have - Unlikely???) to allow the content only on the HD then I think we'll have to wait for the BBC (Aunty for the older Brits on here) to step up and provide either a codec or dedicated mobile player?
Hope my thoughts provide some help and guidance - and maybe spark some more debate?
.
I've been trying for some hours today to get the streams from BBC Mobile working with little success.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/index.shtml
If I look at BBC mobile on my X7500 using explorer there is a link showing "Watch Live TV" I can then click on a channel which downloads a link and then launches Coreplayer which immediately complains that it can't do anything with it.
Anybody else had any joy?
Cheers
Matthew

My Kaiser tells me that the content is only available in the UK but my computer through the same router is fine
why is this ????
SlashGear.com mentions content from the BBC iPlayer.
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-touch-hd-video-demo-and-qa-3121040/
"Q. Can the Touch HD’s Opera browser play content from BBC iPlayer, Hulu or other streaming sites?
A. No. For instance, the iPlayer site loadsbut the streaming video component does not. There is a streaming video app, separate from the YouTube player, but that requires a specific url to load".

Oh of course - BBC NEWS 24 is a UK only channel as it's paid by us TV License payers. And no one in the UK on this forum seems to have the Touch HD so it wouldn't work.
D'oh !
I think it's just a matter of time before BBC iPlayer works on the Touch HD. They have expanded support for many smartphones and PMP's.
The issue from the BBC's point of view is simply demand - making Iplayer available for platforms like the ipod touch and Iphone is a no brainer since there are huge numbers of those devices in the UK, and their users are very much focussed on video and multimedia. With Windows Mobile the case isn't quite so clear - its users are in much smaller numbers for one, and many - perhaps the greater majority - are simply business users with no desire to watch TV on their mobile, and quite possibly inadequate hardware for the task in any case (since the vast majority of WinMo handsets are not high resolution, big screen devices like the HD). Realistically, the HD alone is not going to significantly advance the cause.
While I agree with you, it would be nice if the BBC used an open standard so any platform could watch their shows. Nothing to do with the HD except more devices like this will mean maybe it will become an issue.

Sure, but they have to protect their copyright first and foremost - and ensure it's only license fee payers in the UK who get the benefit - so whatever platforms they support can't be too open.
Get applications like you can get for the iPhone?
I have just had a 'demo' of a load of free apps for the Iphone on a colleagues Iphone and I must admit I was impressed and very surprised, I had always discounted the Iphone as an option for me due to the many (well documented) short commings for power users. However after seeing such applications as the Tioti TV+ which is so quick and smooth and lets you send remote record requests to a Sky+ box - somehting I have been desperate for. Along with great film and cinema applications and many other very neat applications which aren't available on Windows Mobile, I am begining to wonder if I made the wrong decision in purchassing my touch HD??!
Just thought I would share my thoughts with you all....I am sure I will get a barrage of abuse for this post, but would love to know if we think the future of windows mobile may include some more intuitive and consistently looking applications.
P.S. If anyone knows of a SKY+ remote record app which is designed for Windows Mobile I would love to know!
A related question from a relative novice when it comes to downloading and installing apps... is there anything like the iPhone appstore for Windows mobile apps - where applications are listed with screenshots, descriptions, what phones/resolution they work on, etc? I've seen lots of great home-grown apps, and lots of vendor websites that seem to be pedalling a specific product, but haven't seen anything that attempts to bring it all together?
Thanks,
Dave

I don't use Sky+ and have no idea on apps for this - but, I understood it is possible to control the Sky+ box remotely just via an SMS ?
Another possible option is a Slingbox ?
Try also pocketgear.com for applications: http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html/index.jsp
and, Softpedia: http://handheld.softpedia.com/#categories-soft
A five second search on google / sky produced this:
http://anytime.sky.com/mobile.aspx
And clicking through to the supported handsets only lists a few manufacturers and I don't think there are any WM devices.
I think it's a Java app? It might work (I don't have Sky, so can't test!).

Perhaps you should read on as there is no compatible version for Windows Mobile 6.1 (HTC Touch HD)!
Hawk
You need to analyse your own requirements before deciding if iphone or HD is right for you.
For me, the lack of GPS software (google map doesnt qualify), office applications, user swappable spare battery, inability to support stylus, and lack of choices in software keyboard in iphone make it an unacceptable choice.
Another person's need might be different.

I've installed the JAVA components and they work on Windows Mobile 6.1 - the issue is that the software expects you to have a keyboard (or a keypad) attached to input various details .... so you can't use it on a Touch HD !
Thank you for all your comments and suggestions, however I don't beleive sites like handandgo etc are anything like the Iphone Appstore, the apps cost a lot more and you have no idea of compatability. I don't beleive you can easily browse for apps on your handset, like you can with for example the Iphone.
I am not saying I think the Iphone is the best choice of phone, but they certainly got somehting right with the app store and wondered if Microsoft will listen up and provide developers an easy route to dev similar apps for windows mobile?!
I Have tried all the Java Sky remote apps before and as you have spotted they do not work with a touch screen device if it doesn't have hardware buttons too. Also even if it did work it is not very user freindly - I was using this as a example of a really usefull app, which I am amazed has not been built for Windows Mobile touch devices too....it just seems weird why there are so many great little apps for the Iphone, which are so easy to download and browse though, yet it has only been about a relatively short time in comparison with Windows Mobile....I find this most annoying!
Anyway, thanks again for your input

You're welcome and good luck with your choice - still an Iphone ?
Yes, the apps in WM are expensive and there is no simple app store. Rumours are around that MS will fix this.
Having said that, the app developers for WM are doing some great work. I have loads of apps on my HD (see other forum posts I've made recently).
I would like a TV guide app that brings in channels from across Europe. That is, one that would allow me to select my favorite channels.
Sorry the Sky+ thing did not work, as I said, I don't have any experience with this. I'm surprised the keyboard SIP did not work when using the java app.

Thank you - will take a look around that and the others suggested by people. I suspect my response will be similar to jrshodges - not overly clear on compatibility and quite expensive. But I won't be pessimistic...
Thanks again.

Cheers Dave, no - not an Iphone...yet...I am happy to persevere with my WinMo device for the forseeable as I do belive I would miss, like others Sat Nav (which by the way I use TomTom and it looks and works great) ease of Exchange sync etc etc.
I just wanted to rant for a bit about the lack of decent and easily accesable apps for WinMo....in the hopes someone would point me in the direction of a lovely MS App Store (wishful thinking!). I hope you are right and wee do see something from MS soon, although I guess they will wait and in include it in Windows Mobile 6.5 or 7 - although by the sounds of it that won't be anytime soon :-(
And if anyone does ever find a decent TV guide and Sky + App then please remember this thread and post it for us!
Its also worth mentioning that although there are a lot of iPhone apps, and yes they are cheap, most are useless eye candy that have about 2 minutes worth of value in them.
Check out my list of apps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3116988#post3116988
Also, of course, the wiki page:

I don't know much about the Apple apps. But, I can say that some of these WM apps are really serious work and clearly have had lots of effort and thought applied to them.
My latest addition is Pocket Stars - a bit of astronomy fun for me, but a serious app for enthusiasts.
The iphone is for simple folk. The app store is for simple folk. IE it works.
WM is bit more complicated but gives those of you willing to use it a lot more freedom.
I do wish there were more apps and games for the HD.
I have both the Iphone and HD at home (well the Mrs has the iphone) once jailbroken the iphone is truly amazing and I almost wish i had one instead, but them my mrs reminds me why i dont have one, I would get board in no time. I played with hers (iphone that is) for a couple of days over the xmas break then went back to playing around on my HD.
Its still early days for the HD and remember the IPHONE has been around for quite some time now.
Give it a little time and the HD will be up there with the iphone, you already starting to see some really nice app/games coming out.
My only other wish would be some way to get multi-touch to work on HD as it makes games very playable on iphone.
The problem with Microsoft trying to replicate the iPhone App Store is that Apple have 2 different handsets to maintain, which are practically identical except for the GPS/3G.
There are many different versions of WM in use, with many software customisations by handset manufacturers and operators and varying hardware abilities.
I'm not sure how it would be possible to test the full range of devices that a particular application may work with. On top of that, people may or may not have updated the firmware for their device, which can break (or fix) applications.
I'd love to see it, but it's certainly more difficult supporting hundreds of different handsets customised by many operators rather than 1 and a bit
I saw on here that someone is working very hard to make a form of "app store" that will work on phones (credit to them for the effort) its called Gecko...i found the link on the forum. Give it time, I think it will come...
My mates iphone can go to this site and stream tv in good quality. In case you havnt seen/heard of it yet...its proper uk tv not those ****ty internet streams that have...lets be honest nothing on ever!

I am playing it on my HD2 using Skyfire over 3G and even though is is straight from the website, the picture is not that bad ;-D
just seen your post man, Im still struggling to get this working. It "does play" in skyfire...but wow it is buggy as hell. Even over wifi (on my new hd2 )
It plays 100% on my mates gheyphone...which winds me up a little haha
I have nrgs rom installed which uses opera 10...but i read that you can use opera 9.7 with a flash fix...I wonder if that will make tvcatchup work with with opera rather than skyfire?

are they any good? have you checked out tvcatchup...got it working on skyfire via wifi...3g is no use (at least in my area). it seems they made a specific app/page for iphone users...the stream is prob tailored to their device/resolution...half the size of the hd2 (?) so it will look/stream a lot better over 3g (or at least this is what i think?)

As one of the Admin of TVCatchup let's face the facts:
http://m.tvcatchup.com/ has 28 freeview channels, for most phones including Windows Mobile 6.0 + Yamgo has 4.
Yamgo's quality is like watching something from the 60's, that is allowing for bandwidth problems as well. TVC has it's own optimised page offering low and high quality options.
Yamgo spam everything and make false twitter and facebook accounts and generally pee off everyone. We never spam and have built our membership by word of mouth and reputation.
We have open and free help forums that deal with issues right away, I once sent a support email to Yamgo and got a response four days later.
Sounds petty I know but we are trying to provide a service par excellence and of course I am biased, but it peeves you off with shafters like this.
Rant over !
Ok, seriously. I have just spent about 2 hours searching (googleing, and binging) the world wide webernet looking for a legal way to download movies to my wm6.5 phone. I must be retarded, i can find about a million file converters and then the special software that you have to install on your phone, and even a few places to download converted movies from other users, but GOOD GRAVY!!!!! I have been a windows mobile user since my first htc "star trek" flip phone, then the 8520 then the tilt , the tilt 2 and the pure, and for the life of my i couldnot figure out why so many people bought into the whole iphone thing. I mean, as back assward as that company is run there is one thing that they can do right, give people the big things that they want! We've been gloating about our copy and paste for the last three years, why the apple people have been downloading music and movies and surfing the net with out having to do a soft reset every 4 hours. I am really frustrated tonight, and that has been made worse by my fruitless search for somewhere to download a movie that i can watch while on the road tomorrow.
Does anyone out there have any solutions, ideas, or and iphone i can borrow??? I dont mind to download to the computer and then sync to the phone, i just cant find anything?!?!?
If u use Coreplayer u can download .avi files to play on the phone without any converting
Rock player or yxplayer is also good.
YxPlayer can play any video format including .mkv without converting.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Thats the point, i dont want to have to download another player, I mean thats not the end of the world i guess, but where do the movies come from???? Why dont we have an "itunes" or some sort of website where we can go to rent or buy movies that will play on our devices? Windows mobile has been around for a long time now and maybe im the only one who is willing to pay for a service like that, its just occuring to me why the ipod/iphone is so popular inspite of the way apple does business. Thanks for the replys though.
You can download the movies via Usenet or Torrents
or stream Hulu and the likes through Opera or PIE.
I would prefer to legally own the movies, and Hulu was a great solution, but they shut down all mobile units a year ago. Although i heard that there is, or is soon to be an iphone app to watch hulu movies for a 10$ monthly fee. Which wouldnt be to bad, but again, im gonna need the damn iphone!
you can use hulu if you use skyfire web browser, plus skyfire is the best browser for flash.
Just curious into seeing how much it matters on internet browsing. I don't feel like I visit many flash sites these days. List any that are impeded by your current lack of flash
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Any site that plays video pretty much. Very few sites use HTML5 compared to flash. Some use Silverlight too but I don't see that ever coming to Android.
I'm not missing flash at all, good for me I guess
I don't want Flash for browsing (although I do hit a few sites every now and then where I wish I had it). Rather, I want Flash for PlayOn. Gimme that, and I then have Netflix and Hulu.
