Just done a load of searching on here over the last 2 days but can't quite find what I am looking for.
There are a hell of a lot of roms springing up here. What I am looking for is users experiences of the cooked roms they are currently using, specifically in relation to the stability and performance of that rom in everyday use in a variety of differing environments.
Yes I know I could flash them all but doing that does not give me the data I am looking for which is how these roms perform under sustained long term everyday use.
Most grateful for your responses and, if we do this right, this might become a reference thread to help others.
Remember, this is NOT a "what's the best ROM for me" thread. It is a look at the performance and stability of roms in everyday use over time. Also I am not looking for scientific benchmarks but rather the views of you, the user, from an everyday perspective.
When responding I suggest you use the following format:
- Make of ROM (eg Topix)
- Release Date or Version
- Stabilty Rating of ROM (scale is 1 to 5 where 1= poor, 5 = excellent)
- Performance Rating of ROM (scale is 1 to 5 where 1= poor, 5 = excellent)
- Overall rating for this ROM (scale is 1 to 5 where 1= poor, 5 = excellent)
- User Comments (please be brief and, preferably restrict this to bullet point comments only).
- Suggested Development Improvements (what would you like to see in a new version of the cooked rom you are commenting on....please be brief)
Hints & Tips:
When considering your responses, think as follows:
Stabilty - Does this rom perform faultlessly time after time or does it suffer from numerous lockups and/or other faults/needs a reset too often?
Performance - Does this rom feel/is actually blazingly fast or is it sluggish/no different/worse than a stock rom?
Overall - Is this a good rom to use day in, day out, and you would recommend it or would you move to something else?
Thanks.
WB
PS: Please could we not start a flame war on this topic. Everybody has their favourites, it does not make the other person wrong or right. I'm simply trying to gather condensed data of user experience on these roms.

Only one issue so far, but I don't know if it's specific to this ROM or not: During a powerpoint presentation, the device went to sleep, and after turning on it was totally frozen. Even the hard keys didn't work.
Suggested Development Improvements: Including JBlend and categorizing the start menu just like the stock ROMs and maybe increase file system performance if possible

this is a usefull thread, that should be stiky and tidied up.
however if everyone going to give 5 for stability there should be criteria:
those should be added for each occurance until the stability hits zero
had to reflash after getting stuck in boot after some usage -2
phone froze and had to take the battery out -1
screen and buttons froze for over 10 seconds, then came back to life -1 for performanc
this is quick things that come to my mind, however I am sure that we can come up with someway to help with the marking.
also I think it might be better to change this to some sort of poll
More Input Please?
Chaps,
Don't want to go spamming my own thread but there must be a whole shedload more than the 7 respondents on here using cooked roms. I would be really grateful for your input.
I don't have a problem with people rating roms as 5's if that is how they genuinely feel about their ROM. There are good conclusions to be drawn from that provided people are being sensible.
Look forward to your input and help here so this eventually becomes a quick reference point for all.
Many thanks

Thanks for that review
this thread is a lot but its not informative by any means.
those ratings are all 5/5/5
which proves once again, you have to find what you like and be happy with it. So naturally everyone will rate their ROMs high because otherwise they wouldn't use it.

Stability: I've had 2 instances where the unlock screen froze for about 10 seconds after sliding, other than that no issues at all.
Speed: Very fast, but there has been occasional stutter for 3-4 seconds on weather animations (possibly owing to have many background apps open, I didn't check.)

My First post - my first question.
I have a brand new HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris) in my hand waiting to flash it as the original ROM is too bloated for my taste.
I have used O2 XDA Orbit before and had flashed with Meshle's Vanilla ROM - which was the Most Stable, Cleanest, long battery life, and NO memory leak ROM.
Is there anything similar to that for Polaris? I assume - the word Vanilla does not apply here as I did a search and came up with nothing for Polaris. Am sure there are many 'Good' ROM's - but I am looking for something 'Clean' but stable and fast. ( I do a lot of other office work on my phone - so speed, memory is of essense rather than looks!)
I am not looking at the Cube or TouchFLO or any other additional APPS - just a stable ROM which has maximum battery life, good radio signal and with no memory lelaks.
What is the current recomended RADIO version combination currrently being flashed with the ROM?
If someone can please take the time out and suggest.
Thanks
<<Bump>> So many views and no one answered? Thats not good ! At leaste give me the keyword to search with?

Also there is a super light ROM by swtos!!
i'm in the same position - office phone, that should be fast and stable
that's why i'm using "swtos light v0.6"
it's more stable comparing to version 0.3
Try 0.67_Basic_bepe
It is nice and clean !
Could you make a poll with this list of release to compare as fast are ?

Statements like these are usually on your own personal experience. I do not care about the above two bugs .. so its bug free for me - may not be for others. Its the same as saying which rom is fast ... its all relative
I would vote for c_shekhar but he is not in the list.
i have tried many different ROMS and none of them are bug free and different users will find different bugs depending on what they use there pda for i use mine for satnav phone diary and some pictures and for what i use it for mamines ROM is best it is fast stable and i have only found 2 minor bugs. none of wich effect my enjoyment of this excellent rom
I've tried only Bepe 0.67, Udk R7, R8 & Syrius R0, and ITJE's Touch-IT 3.5, 3.6 & 4.0. All the newer roms perform very well with some minor bugs in each, so picking one of the bunch I had to base my decision on the fact that Touch-IT 3.5 immediately after coming up and loading M2D, sliding your finger across the icon row produces very fast smooth transitions. The others, including 3.6 and 4.0, do not: the movement and transitions are slow and jerky and the pda screen must be powered off and then back on for the fast smooth video to take effect. So... I've downgraded back to 3.5
KhanX is the faster one but it minimize randomly e sometimes close TF.

M-Amines Rom is buggy ???
I don´t thing so !!!
Greats
Strahler70
udK Syrius R1 has only a few minor bugs.
However all the cooked ROM, and also those officers, have a few bugs, so I think that to find the perfect ROM should create a mix between all the ROM that these fantastic cookers are creating.
Sorry for my bad English.
Hello
one step FW
1. I have also voted
2. but I don't think this is the scientific way to determine that issue, since it base on hart and not on logic - one "feels" that this ROM is faster while other "feel" bad about the same ROM
3. At this stage to disqualify ROM because it have some bugs - seems impropriety - lets focus on the target.
4. attch here exaple for table I have started to keep track it base on two applications spb benchmark (free) and SKTools (evaluation).
5. please advice on your ROM that you have already installed. run the basic tests and add it to the table so evantuly we will have "single DB" of compare - if it will realy care for someone new in the future.
6. Personaly - I prefered my ROM due to the fact that it is fast enough, looking good, and run my softwares smoothly (which other ROMs didn't....)
7. So I don't think it is a contest here "which has the best ROM" - but rather more curiosity about how each ROM gets his speed
8. for exapmle you can see that R8 is faster in RAM acess but Navia v1.1 is faster in dispaly so avantuly the "feeling" of Navia 1.1 is much greater then R8
Added M-Amines 2.0 Sp3. And in *.xls format.
Added V0.96LT Swtos in *.xls format.
Ok....
meanwhile the V0.96LT Swtos has very interesting preformance...
Hi,
I've been using daran_clarke's TF3D Beta 3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448178) for a short while now and really like it. Thanks Daran!
However I've been toying with installing a new rom, something I've been putting off for a while now.
I'd like people's opinions on the benefits / difference's between the above TF3D and the ROM below which also looks awesome?
Smaberg's Touch X 10.1 ULTIMATE X-TREME "MrRusch BLUE EDITION" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493848)
Anyone tried both? This is my day to day phone so stability and performance matter most to me.
Many thanks in advance for views offered.
Richard
Hi Richard,
I recently updated my ROM to itje's TouchX edition and it's honestly fantastic. Not had a single problem bug wise with it yet and has massively increased my battery life compared to the UK Vodafone ROM.
Not sure if this helps you but just thought I'd give you some info!
The Diggler
Thanks, presumably you're more than happy with the speed then judging by your post?
I was thinking of going with either that or the Blue version above.
before flasing smaberg's touchx 10 rom (blue), i used the tf3db3 cab by daran clarke.
it works fine but having the rom installed is much much faster and stable. the finger gestures, scrolling and menus are smoother.
if u want speed and performance definitely go for the rom.
+1 for itje's Touch-IT Xperience 10.2
It's fast, smooth, nicely featured and most importantly works without special tweaks. I had one difference of opinion on Opera but installing the old version solved that problem. Battery life is MUCH better than older ROM versions and memory use has been optimised so RAM is freed up when you close apps.

Nice thread.. thanks mate.
Do you have plans to rate any more of these ROMs on the 1 to 5 scale that a few like Cyanogen are? Even though it's subjective it's really useful to get an opinion from a consistent observer
Thanks for the directory regardless; this guide is a good starting point.

Hello everyone,
After long tests:
Stock firmwares vs AOSP Roms
Previously, stock roms was better for gaming. They were have best 3D performance with very little overclock. And sensors was better on stock rom.
After JW8, games running much faster than old releases. Even better than old froyo gaming performance.
So I deicided to slimming the stock roms, dying them. cool blue color, adding some tweaks to increase performance, replacing some ram hungry things with ram friendly alternatives, adding some good features that never implemented before, using all features with no lose from gaming performance. This was my focus about GamerzRom.
CyanogenMod is cool.
But about 2 month ago,
Thats why I stick stock ROMs1- Gaming performance was worse than stock.
2- Accelerometer and other sensors were unresponsible and impossible to play games with them.
3- Filesystem was confusing us. (datadata problems and lags)
4- Radical changes in short times needs full wipe which I don't like it.
5- Camera was worse than stock roms, especially the 720p recording.
6- Stock ROMS was faster overal.
When I look cyanogenmod these days after very detailed benchmarks today again;
1- Gaming performance and 3D performance is much better than stock roms. (System UI priority decreased and gaming is very quality.)
2- Accelerometer and other sensors are BETTER and more responsive than stock (Accelerometer delay is 20 ms on stock roms, 10 ms on cyangeonmod.)
3- Filesystem is much better - faster than stock with new layout.
4- No radical changes and everyday cyangeonmod team and community adding new features to it.
5- Camera is very smooth and much funnier than stock rom. Benchmarked both. They exactly same. But JellyBean camera features are new destinty.
6- Cyanogenmod 10 is faster OVERALL.
7- Webbrowsing is much better on cyangeonmod 10.
8- You got 390 mb RAM + 720p recording with devil kernel. (Which is 364 mb ram on stock)
9- You can take videos with front cam on cyanogenmod 10.
10- Instantly getting new updates from google to our device. (Latest android features)
11- HW Acceleration is very important for todays devices. Gingerbread is totally crap for most of apps including tapatalk.
12- Sound quality is much better on AOSP roms and you got more chance to tweak it.
13- There are too much reasons that I don't really remember.
14- Touchscreen is much responsive on this one.
For sure, I got my own codes and implementions for AOSP roms. But I have a crappy PC which running a 32 bit Arch-Linux.
Sadly, I need a 64-bit PC and can't compile ROM's on 32 bit PC.
I think from now I can't make more than cyanogenmod team and I highly recommend my users to switching Cyanogenmod 10.
Only negative effects of cyanogenmod is;
- You can't make video calls
That's all.
My suggestion for a combiantion.
-Latest CyanogenMod nightly.
-Devil kernel
As I reminded. You have no reasons to stay on crappy gingerbread with a half hw-accelerated browser.

When I look cyanogenmod these days after very detailed benchmarks today again;
