Is there a way to avoid the signature required from FedEx?
How did you guys get around this. My wife and I both work... really wanting to play with the phone tonight.
Sorry this is not a great topic for this forum, but where else could I get a bunch of people so gung-ho for the Nexus?

Why do you want to avoid the signature??? explain please...
Its an indirect sig required so anyone can sign for it if you have a neighbor that will be home just let them know and leave a note on your door for fed ex
Because neither of us will be home to sign for it. If it's not left there then I will not be able to receive it unless I have them hold it at the facility and drive out there after work tomorrow (which I can not do)... so THEN it would have to be Wednesday before I received it.
I live in a very safe neighborhood in one of the lowest crime rate cities in the country.
i had to just stay home today and miss out on work today . but ill have my nexus one hopefully soon to play with
Not going to happen that I can see. I was told once that I could leave a note with the tracking number and sign it, but that didn't work (not sure if the note was still there when he got there though). I just happened to be home between doctor appts for mine.
You should call the fedEx company and tell them at what time will there be a fedEx guy in your area, then just get out of work for a bit get the nexus one and everyone is happy
I was able to leave a note on the door stating to leave the package on the doorstep. Signed it, printed my name and cell number if he/she wanted to confirm it. They left it there for me.
right on, I typed up a brief memo with all the input from you guys.
I will report back tonight and let you all know the results. Hopefully from my wifes Nexus One.
i get fedex stuff all the time, i have a waiver on file with them, so they leave all deliveries behind......call them and get the waiver in place, but you might have to sign something for that....good luck.
I am waiting for my package today.....supposedly before 3pm.
of course i'm leaving work to go get it!
gonna try att for now, but will most likely switch to the tmob
You can look online at the tracking info and it will tell you if it is a direct or an indirect signature that is required. Direct, you personally have to sign for it. Indirect, you can just leave a note on the door instructing the FedEx man to leave the package on your doorstep and sign the piece of paper. In this case it was indirect and they left it for me...
This may be a little late for the OP but why not have it shipped to your work address? Businesses typically get deliveries earlier than residences and there is almost always someone there to sign for stuff.
This worked perfect for me. I had it by 10 in the morning. FedEx to my house is usually after 5.
I would call FedEx and ask if they can re-route the package to your work address. You can also get a door hangar from FedEx that you can fill out, sign, and leave on your door for them, to allow them to leave the package at your door without a signature.
From the FedEx Website
Indirect Signature Required
FedEx will obtain a signature in one of three ways:
From someone at the delivery address; or
From a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address; or
The recipient can sign a FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present*.
* = FedEx had to have attempted delivery once to leave this tag on the door
Direct Signature Required.
FedEx will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address. If no one is at the address, FedEx will reattempt delivery. For FedEx Express shipments, the recipient may also choose to pick up the package at the location listed on the door tag.
http://www.fedex.com/us/services/shipinfo/signatureoptions.html?link=2
In 2007 FedEx used to allow Residential deliveries to have a release on file to prevent signatures. Now ALL residential shipments are dropped without a signature UNLESS the shipper requests a direct, indirect or Adult signature (e.g. Booze). Generally calling FedEx 1800-GO-FEDEX (1-800-463-3339) you can provide the tracking number and ask for the shipment to be held at your local FedEx location. Some locations can do this right away (e.g. in transit) - others may need to do an attempted delivery the first day - those generally go back to the FedEx location by 6PM in most markets - so you can pick those up the same day at the assigned FedEx location (may not be the one closest to you - it will be the one the driver on your route calls home base). If you do pickup at a FedEx location they will check photo ID. Some shippers (e.g. Apple) prevent redirection of the package - either it's attempted to deliver and signed, picked up at a FedEx location or RETURNED as undeliverable. Keep that in mind if the FedEx agent says you cannot redirect it to a work address - it's a legit concern to prevent fraud.
I left a notecard today with the tracking number and a request of where to leave it (at the door) and printed my name/signed my name
...and left $5 just in case. Just received confirmation that my phone was dropped off at my front door ! : D ! !
Yeap....
UPDATE:
FedEx did leave as most of you thought per my notes instructions. Man, the Nexus is INCREDIBLE. I am so jealous of my wife.... Cyan is incredible, but there is no way my G1 can come close to the Nexus.

Hi. I am a contractor for Fedex. Just wanted to give you guys that won't be home a couple tips to still get your package. Number one. These packages are being shipped with direct signatures I'm assuming. What this means is someone has to be at the address on the package to sign for it. It cannot be delivered to alternate addresses. ie "please deliver my package next door". The are not allowed to do this. But, the good thing is that it just has to be somebody at your address. If it's a friend, neighbor, relative. Doesn't matter. They can sign for it. If you know nobody will be there contact your local Fedex terminal. These are going express, do not contact Fedex Ground or Fedex Home Delivery. Wrong company. Anyway, contact your local terminal and tell them you have a package with such and such tracking number and you would like them to hold it. Ask them what the hours to pick up a package held are and go pick it up within those times. Make sure you bring a valid id and your tracking number. Veolia, N1 in hand. Hope this helps. BTW. If your package is not in your hands in 3 business days because you are not home it will be shipped back.
nope my fedex order said indirect signature required, meaning I could have just left a fedex door tag authorizing them to leave the package at the door and they would have left it (thats what it said on the site).
thanks for the info. i hope we have a snow day tomorrow so i WILL be home (but also that the roads arent bad enough that it stops them from coming...)
anyways mine is also INDIRECT - " Standard Overnight - Indirect " so i could have them deliver it next door...hmm. and if i am not home to get the package tomorrow then i'll be picking it up tomorrow night no matter how bad the weather is.
i am thinking of coming down with a case of the dontwannagointoworkbecauseakillerphoneisbeingshippedtome disorder tomorrow.

Sweet. Even better then. We deliver a lot of phones for Brightpoint and those are direct sign so I assumed these would be the same. Guess not. Well that makes things a whole lot easier then. Sign the tag and make sure to leave it on the door it was left on for the next day and all will be well. Also, if you guys don't want your phone left outside leave a little note where to leave it. I cannot speak for all drivers, but I would try to leave it somewhere out of view. When you sign that tag it puts full responsibility of the phone in your hands. You are saying that it is okay to leave it and if it's not there Fedex is not responsible for it. Anyway, I hope this helps those that were wondering.
can anyone tell me the box diminsion? delivery will be tomm. and I might not be home and was going to leave my garage cracked so fed ex could slide it under. Thanks in advance!
The N1 box is maybe 2 inches high, but at least mine came in a substantially bigger brown shipping cardbord box; maybe 5-10 inch high.

Will they do that? I seem to remember needing to sign for mine.
The pkg WILL need a signature for delivery.
I left a note for FedEx with my signature on it, and they left it without any issue. Your miles may vary though, as I've read that some drivers will not take the note as a signature.
As for the dimensions of the original shipping box, I can't answer that for you; I threw it away the day I got it.
Will it require my signature or will anyone's do in the house?
It requires an "indirect signature" which means anyone (I think even minors) can sign for it. I'm pretty sure there's another term for a signature that requires that the person be over 18.
It does require a signature. Mine arrived yesterday so my tracking number was still active. I looked it up and it stated that it had to me signed by someone at your address or that of a neighbor. So you have any neighbors at home during the day? If so you could leave a note to FedEx to leave it at that address. They might do it but I doubt they will run across town to drop it off. It also stated that they will leave a signature card that you could sign and they would leave the package the next day when they attempt a 2nd delivery. That or you could stop by the local FedEx facility and pick it up yourself.
Hope that helps.
I specifically remember having to sign for the package. The delivery was made by FedEx, and I'm a minor. -14-
It requires indirect signature, meaning you can either sign for it or according to the fedex website you can leave a note at the door with instructions on where to leave the box.

It absolutely MUST be signed for. No way around it whatsoever.
Tip:
A) Call 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339 and request to have the package delivered after a certain time (like after 6pm)
OR even better, and this is what I did because I work during the day and live alone:
B) Ask them to hold it at a Fedex location. And note they *CAN* ship and hold your package at ANY Fedex-Kinkos. So find the nearest one near you http://www.fedex.com/Dropoff/start and ask them to hold it there. This is what I did. I was able to go pick it up after work. They asked for my last name, I showed my ID and they picked it up from a pile of like 3 packages in 30 seconds. Highly recommended to do it this way if there's a Fedex-Kinkos near you.
-----
P.S. The package box the phone comes in is pretty big; about the size of 2 or 3 yellow pages phone books stacked on top each other. This is because there's a huge plastic bubble balloon packed in there, not just the phone box itself.
If I am not home when FedEx arrives, will they leave the phone at the door or will I have to go through hell to pick up my phone? I am afraid I am going to have to figure this out because I had a bad experience with FedEx before. Would appreciate if someone can clarify that has received their phone.
Thanks!
Track your pkg, then leave a signed note giving FedEx permission to leave pkg between the doors or under mat etc. You should be good to go!

FedEx delivery manager will let you specify where to leave it at your address. For instance, mine is set to "back door/patio", which is one of a few choices. They place it where you tell them to at least 50 to 75% of the time...
Story Time:
I ordered the Google Pixel XL 128GB (Quite Black) from the official Google Store online on April 25, 2017. The free shipping option put the device being delivered in the May 11 - May 15th window. I was okay with this as I was taking an international flight on May 16th and figured I would have the device by then. Shortly after my order on April 27th, 2017 I received an email stating that my device has been shipped and expected to arrive between May 11 - 15. This email provided a FedEx tracking number, which I closely monitored every day.
I watched as my phone slowly made it's way from Carol Stream, IL to Los Angeles, CA. Each day inching it's way across the country. It finally reached the FedEx facility in Los Angeles on May 3rd, 2017 at 4:42AM. I was pretty excited to see that it was probably going to arrive much sooner than stated. That was until I saw a status update on the tracking that simply stated "Delivery Exception - Future Delivery Requested". What? I didn't understand what this meant so I called FedEx on May 4th, 2017 and the gentleman on the phone told me he would check with the LA facility and ask them about the package. After a brief 10 minutes hold, he came back and told me that delivery exception means the delivery hub was busy and the package would be out for delivery that day (May 4th) by the end of the day.
I was satisfied and went along with my day only to find out by the end of the day that a delivery attempt was not made. May 4th came and went. May 5th came and went. No updates on FedEx tracking, and no attempted deliveries (I was home waiting for the delivery). I decided to be patient and wait until Monday morning to see if there was some update on the FedEx tracking. There wasn't.
I called FedEx first thing Monday morning and asked for some new info on my package. After being placed on another brief 10 minutes hold, I was told again that the package would be out for delivery by end of day and the rep asked me for the cell phone number of the delivery address so the driver has it. I provided it and again went along with the day waiting for delivery.
That was until I later refreshed the FedEx tracking and find this gem: 5/08/2017 - Monday 10:34 am Returning package to shipper
LOS ANGELES, CA Shipper requested shipment to be returned - Unable to deliver shipment - Returning to shipper
Okay. So I called FedEx again and asked another rep what happened and he dug a littler deeper for me and found out that a woman by the name of Donna from Ingram Micro made a request for the package to be returned to the shipper on the morning of May 5th, 2017 (this status was not listed in the tracking website). I asked FedEx for any contact info for this Donna at Ingram Micro and he couldn't help me. I set out on my own to dig for the info I needed and ended up finding a phone number for Ingram Micro support. I called and naively asked for Donna and was met with confusion. I told the rep about my issues but she was less than willing to help me out because I was not from Google. So I asked her kindly if she had some contact info at Google since it is nearly impossible to find a proper phone number online for support (even after you spend almost $1,000 on a phone). She was able to supply me with a phone number and I thanked her and went with it.
I called the number and reached a very friendly rep at Google and explained my situation (that the phone was being returned to the shipper and I saw no chance of it being re-delivered on time). She was caring and expressed her apologies but told me she is with the Google Play Store support but that she could transfer me to the Google Hardware Store people. I waited on the line for about 15 minutes before being introduced to a first level support for the Google Hardware Store. Again I explained my situation and the rep was looking at the FedEx info and told me "Sir, if you look, you can see it should be delivered by May 9th, 2017." I explained calmly to him that that is the expected date for the device to return to the shipper, not me. He didn't quite understand what was happening and he offered to call FedEx and ask them what happened. I waited for about 20 minutes and he came back and told me that FedEx didn't have any more info for him than what was on the tracking log.
He told me I should be patient and that he was confident that the device would arrive on time to me. I knew better and kindly asked him to speak to a manager to explain this more. He hooked me up with his supervisor and I went on explaining it to him as well. He was able to finally understand that the device was being returned without even one attempt to deliver it to me. He said there was nothing he could do until the device reached it's destination. He said his system would not allow him to cancel the order/ship a new device, etc. until it was no longer "in transit". He told me he would make a case number for me and put it on high priority and after the expected date of the devices return to Ingram Micro (listed as May 9th) he can help me get it straight and even ship a new device with the fastest shipping possible. He told me they would call me on May 10th and check the case with me.
They did call me today and I again received the same first level support that didn't understand the situation in the first place. He AGAIN told me that the device says it will be delivered (now somehow updated to May 12th (back to the shipper of course)) on time. I told him again to please go over the tracking log with me and pay attention to the part that says that the shipper requested the package to be returned back to them. He told me he understood now and he would check with Ingram Micro/Google Shipping and find out what happened. He called me back about 2 hours later and said he confirmed that the device was heading back to the shipping company and he will transfer me to the Google Shipping department to have them help me out.
- This story is almost over if you are still with me -
I was connected with the shipping department and the rep there told me he confirmed that it was on the way back to the shipper and he could go ahead and start a refund for me. I informed him that I did not want a refund right now and I just want the device to be delivered by May 15th as promised and to please figure out a way to send me another one with express shipping since they already know the original one was on the way back. He tried telling me that it was undeliverable and that his "security system" would not allow him to place another device in shipping until this one was back. I actually only now started to lose my patience. I told him how unfair this was. He made the mistake of informing me that if the device was lost in transit or even stolen, then he could then authorize another one to be shipped out.
I explained to him that this really was not logical that they now know for sure they are getting the device back and still won't ship another one. I ended up getting absolutely nowhere with this guy and he offered me the great deal of initiating a refund for me. He offered it like it was some kind of compensation. To be refunded for a device that I paid for and did not get... this was too good for me to pass up, so I took him up on his offer and agreed to the refund and expressed my deep feelings of frustration to him. At this point, I am not sure I will ever order another Google device from the Google store. I love Google. I always have. This was an incredibly disappointing experience and I have no idea what phone I am going to buy now since I had my heart completely set on this device.
TLDR; I ordered a $1,000 Pixel XL. The shipping company made some error and had it sent back to them before even attempting to deliver to me. Google support was hard to reach and offered no help except for a refund. Thanks Google.
To be honest seems to me you're just *****ing the ***** yes you didn't get your device but you got your money back so you weren't ****ed. To be honest I don't understand the point of this post besides the ***** moan and complain

If that is all you got out of that story, then you are just as bad as Google was during this whole ordeal.
Man I am really sorry that this happened to you!
That sucks. Mine was way over a month so I cancelled it and ordered from project fi. Got to my house in 3 days. And it comes from the exact same place.
Great read. It must have taken you a lot of time so thank you for the effort. I think you need to find a supervisor that will credit you for at least $100. Then buy another one and have them ship free expedited. Good luck. The device is worth it.

What kind of stupid responses are these?
Sad for you.
Had the nearly the same with my daydream. As soon as I saw sent back to deliverer I called Google. And they just asked if I want a refund or another device. But in my case they sent it out on the same day. Maybe because of the lower price.
Well at least you got your money back in a timely manner. Human error happens, I wouldn't hold it against Google. Just make sure you go ahead and get the Pixel XL because it's an amazing phone! Now, deep breath... LOL
So just take refund and order again, seems like the easiest option...
I just got my OnePlus 5 today and I started using it for about 30min and then the screen started freezing and locking up and then finally when all colorful static (tv snow). I think its a back connection as i can still unlock the phone with my thumb and power it off buy holding power then taping the screen guessing were the power off button is. the sounds for the unlock work to.
If anyone has an idea to fix this that is not going to void anything please let me know.

I will most definitely let everyone know how the RMA process goes. I also took a picture of the box and phones two IMEI's so I will be able to confirm that I do in fact get a new phone and not the same one.
I subscribed to this thread just to see how it goes. Good luck, OP! Let us know how it goes.
So my phone arrived at one of Oneplus' partner companies. As a result I opened another live chat to get an update on my RMA status. I got routed to Lois who was also quite nice and understanding. I asked for the status of my RMA and how long I would be waiting for my replacement. Lois informed me that the hole process could take up to 12 day after the parter company inspects the phone witch could also be up to 2 days. Which it's 14 days...... I think you all know were I'm going with this. So I asked to cancel my orders and send everything back for a full refund. Lois said they would only be able to do a parcel refund for the oterbox and extra dash cabal I ordered. So at this point I'm not happy and ask for my case to be escalated and that compensation be considered for my inconvenience.
So I got an email from OnePlus later last night. They have placed a new order for my Midnight Black 8/128. So if it ships today it should get to me for Friday. We will see....
Looks like the phone shipped out today got a tracking number emailed to me and the tracking number is saying it will be delivered tomorrow. Will let everyone know if I get the phone tammorow!
So I got the phone delivered today, send in the RMA later Friday night and iv got a new phone on the next Thursday. I'm quite happy to say the very least. We will see if this phone lasts longer as oneplus did send me a total new unit I looked at the IMEI's are in fact different.
Congrats OP!
