Is there a way to avoid the signature required from FedEx?
How did you guys get around this. My wife and I both work... really wanting to play with the phone tonight.
Sorry this is not a great topic for this forum, but where else could I get a bunch of people so gung-ho for the Nexus?

Why do you want to avoid the signature??? explain please...
Its an indirect sig required so anyone can sign for it if you have a neighbor that will be home just let them know and leave a note on your door for fed ex
Because neither of us will be home to sign for it. If it's not left there then I will not be able to receive it unless I have them hold it at the facility and drive out there after work tomorrow (which I can not do)... so THEN it would have to be Wednesday before I received it.
I live in a very safe neighborhood in one of the lowest crime rate cities in the country.
i had to just stay home today and miss out on work today . but ill have my nexus one hopefully soon to play with
Not going to happen that I can see. I was told once that I could leave a note with the tracking number and sign it, but that didn't work (not sure if the note was still there when he got there though). I just happened to be home between doctor appts for mine.
You should call the fedEx company and tell them at what time will there be a fedEx guy in your area, then just get out of work for a bit get the nexus one and everyone is happy
I was able to leave a note on the door stating to leave the package on the doorstep. Signed it, printed my name and cell number if he/she wanted to confirm it. They left it there for me.
right on, I typed up a brief memo with all the input from you guys.
I will report back tonight and let you all know the results. Hopefully from my wifes Nexus One.
i get fedex stuff all the time, i have a waiver on file with them, so they leave all deliveries behind......call them and get the waiver in place, but you might have to sign something for that....good luck.
I am waiting for my package today.....supposedly before 3pm.
of course i'm leaving work to go get it!

You can look online at the tracking info and it will tell you if it is a direct or an indirect signature that is required. Direct, you personally have to sign for it. Indirect, you can just leave a note on the door instructing the FedEx man to leave the package on your doorstep and sign the piece of paper. In this case it was indirect and they left it for me...
This may be a little late for the OP but why not have it shipped to your work address? Businesses typically get deliveries earlier than residences and there is almost always someone there to sign for stuff.
This worked perfect for me. I had it by 10 in the morning. FedEx to my house is usually after 5.
I would call FedEx and ask if they can re-route the package to your work address. You can also get a door hangar from FedEx that you can fill out, sign, and leave on your door for them, to allow them to leave the package at your door without a signature.

From someone at the delivery address; or
From a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address; or

In 2007 FedEx used to allow Residential deliveries to have a release on file to prevent signatures. Now ALL residential shipments are dropped without a signature UNLESS the shipper requests a direct, indirect or Adult signature (e.g. Booze). Generally calling FedEx 1800-GO-FEDEX (1-800-463-3339) you can provide the tracking number and ask for the shipment to be held at your local FedEx location. Some locations can do this right away (e.g. in transit) - others may need to do an attempted delivery the first day - those generally go back to the FedEx location by 6PM in most markets - so you can pick those up the same day at the assigned FedEx location (may not be the one closest to you - it will be the one the driver on your route calls home base). If you do pickup at a FedEx location they will check photo ID. Some shippers (e.g. Apple) prevent redirection of the package - either it's attempted to deliver and signed, picked up at a FedEx location or RETURNED as undeliverable. Keep that in mind if the FedEx agent says you cannot redirect it to a work address - it's a legit concern to prevent fraud.
I left a notecard today with the tracking number and a request of where to leave it (at the door) and printed my name/signed my name
...and left $5 just in case. Just received confirmation that my phone was dropped off at my front door ! : D ! !

FedEx did leave as most of you thought per my notes instructions. Man, the Nexus is INCREDIBLE. I am so jealous of my wife.... Cyan is incredible, but there is no way my G1 can come close to the Nexus.
can anyone tell me the box diminsion? delivery will be tomm. and I might not be home and was going to leave my garage cracked so fed ex could slide it under. Thanks in advance!
The N1 box is maybe 2 inches high, but at least mine came in a substantially bigger brown shipping cardbord box; maybe 5-10 inch high.

Will they do that? I seem to remember needing to sign for mine.
The pkg WILL need a signature for delivery.
I left a note for FedEx with my signature on it, and they left it without any issue. Your miles may vary though, as I've read that some drivers will not take the note as a signature.
As for the dimensions of the original shipping box, I can't answer that for you; I threw it away the day I got it.

It requires an "indirect signature" which means anyone (I think even minors) can sign for it. I'm pretty sure there's another term for a signature that requires that the person be over 18.
It does require a signature. Mine arrived yesterday so my tracking number was still active. I looked it up and it stated that it had to me signed by someone at your address or that of a neighbor. So you have any neighbors at home during the day? If so you could leave a note to FedEx to leave it at that address. They might do it but I doubt they will run across town to drop it off. It also stated that they will leave a signature card that you could sign and they would leave the package the next day when they attempt a 2nd delivery. That or you could stop by the local FedEx facility and pick it up yourself.

It absolutely MUST be signed for. No way around it whatsoever.
Tip:
A) Call 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339 and request to have the package delivered after a certain time (like after 6pm)
OR even better, and this is what I did because I work during the day and live alone:
B) Ask them to hold it at a Fedex location. And note they *CAN* ship and hold your package at ANY Fedex-Kinkos. So find the nearest one near you http://www.fedex.com/Dropoff/start and ask them to hold it there. This is what I did. I was able to go pick it up after work. They asked for my last name, I showed my ID and they picked it up from a pile of like 3 packages in 30 seconds. Highly recommended to do it this way if there's a Fedex-Kinkos near you.

P.S. The package box the phone comes in is pretty big; about the size of 2 or 3 yellow pages phone books stacked on top each other. This is because there's a huge plastic bubble balloon packed in there, not just the phone box itself.
I called tmobile a week or so ago and explained my hinge issue. They blew me off so I called corporate. The csr their sent me a new g2. Two days ago ups dropped it infront of my door since I wasn't home. Fast forward to today; I called corp again to ask for a status or at least a tracking number. She told me that it was all ready delivered. And the notes indicate that the dumb ass ups agent just dropped it on my front door n left. She wont be able to send me a new g2 again till some investigation is complete. She mentioned that they will track the serial number of the phone and imei number. If one of my friends or family members have it I will have to pay full price for the device.
Is this true?!?! If some Jack ass I know stole my damn g2 I'm going to have to actually pay for it? What are my rights exactly? Can they really track a phone? If one of my neighbors stole it do I really have to pony up for it?

first, this incident doesn't surprise me. UPS are worthless scumbags and i personally know many people that have had their **** stolen because of UPS's mess ups like this one. thats why i always have stuff shipped to my work address because there's always someone to take it and sign for it.
second, i don't know about what tmobile said. how would they know if the person that did steal it is your friend? family i can see how that may be possible to determine, but i highly doubt they'll be running background checks and social networking sites on the individual that stole your phone just for the sake of making sure he's not your buddy. i think they said that just to make sure you didn't claim a fake claim just to get another phone out of them, figuring that maybe you'd call later and say oh yeah my buddy picked it up and was holding it for me.

I hope ur right, a part of me wants to know who the bastard is so I can call the cops. But another part of me doesn't want to dish out the 500 dollars for that bit of info.
I figured they were trying to paint me against a wall. To my knowledge tmobile just can't go out and flip a switch that lets them know all the iemi and serial numbers of the phones on their network.

Seems logical. Probably a fraud prevention scheme. It was just a few weeks ago that some idiot suggested in a thread (in this subforum) that he could get two devices by lying to T-mo and claiming his package was never delivered. That's fraud of course, and the thread was locked.
If you think your neighbors or your family members may have taken the package in for you, you better check with them before reporting a missing package.

Whenever a phone registers to a cellular network, it has to submit its IMEI and IMSI to the tower. Not only can any cellular carrier know which phones are active on its network at any given time, it can also identify the phone's location at the least to the accuracy of its cell tower density-- even more accurately if using time-delay or signal triangulation.

I spoke to all of them as soon as I hanged up with tmobile. They haven't seen ups nor were they holding my package for me.
I don't understand why you're liable for anything.
The way I understand it, you have a G2 with a loose hinge. You called TMO and they sent you a replacement G2 which was allegedly stolen from your front porch. Soooo you still have your old G2 and you can send that back to TMO to satisfy your $500 debt.
Of course, that leaves you without a phone. Unfortunately, TMO has nothing to do with this. The only recourse you have with UPS is diligently complaining until they give in, or seeing if there was any insurance purchased on the package. If UPS doesn't budge, you're most likely SOL and would have to find out who stole the phone.
Even easier than sending the package to your work is to make sure that whoever sends the package requires a signature on delivery. That way, you know someone in the house receives the package, or if no one's home, they'll leave a tag on your door and you can pick up the package at the distribution center in person.
I'd also like to point out that if UPS stopped dropping packages off and instead required signature for every package, everyone would ***** to high hell about having to be home all the time or having to go to the distribution center.
Ups will trace the package and will locate it. This happens more often than it should. Its often up to the driver if they get a signature or not. The driver will go out there and try to find it with their gps unit before tmobile will act on it. If it was coming from tmo it should be insured and they ought to send you another after its done if they can't find it.

Why haven't you made a police report? I mean, T-Mobile and UPS claim it was delivered. They don't seem to try to help you out. You don't have it. It's apparent someone is lying or someone is depriving you of your tangible property. Sounds like a theft. If the officer doesn't write it up as a theft, at the very least your generating a report. It should state you don't' have it and that you never gave permission for anyone to take it. You have been informed by both T-Mobile and UPS of it being delivered to your door step. Provide both phone numbers to the officer for the report, and also the IMEI number if T-Mobile is willing to give it to you. If not an investigator will be able to get it. It might never turn up and the investigator probably won't look to much into. He'll probably just enter a lost article into the system and attach the IMEI / serial number to it. You just need something for the insurance.
If the supervisors sees the officer turning in a report with all that information on it, it'll be hard for it not to be classified as a theft. The last thing it is lost property. It's not lost, its stolen.
If you do pay insurance on the phone, I can't see why it wouldn't be covered.
I had this same problem years back I was replacing a damaged dash and it was taken off my front porch...i have a ups driver who helped me out. He got me a copy of the record where no one signed for the package and i kept a copy of the sticky saying it was left on my porch....i sent them in to t-mobile and it took a few extra weeks but i did receive that dash i was replacing..
Thanks for the help guys. I called the cops. Since I didn't take delivery it still isn't my property. So they can't write me a report. Tmobile will have to dialled 911 on this one it seems.
Ups customer service was no help either. Supervisor said that it was left on the front door and its not their fault, its tmobiles for not asking for a signature with delivery.
By friday I will know what the end result will be, ill report then with their findings.

I was actually pretty paranoid about this, so I asked T-mo if they could mark the package as signature required (preordered from corporate). I was surprised that the sales rep actually had to ask a manager if this was possible, only to say it is not possible and that if there were any problems I should call them. Pretty surprising that they have no qualms about letting a $500 package be delivered without signature confirmation.
My brother works for tmo and is getting phones sent to his house all the time. One time my phone broke so the new one was sent to his address because I'm under his employee plan. I went to his house to pick up the phone and there was a guy sitting in his truck in front of the house on the phone. When he saw me walk to my bros house he looked surprised and asked me if joshua lived there. I don't know anyone by that name so I told him and he left. 10 minutes later ups shows up.
Now this would be a coinsidense but the next time I had a phone sent to my brothers house I got there and the same truck was there but as soon as the guy saw me he hung up the phone and took off. Sure enough ups arrived within 15 minutes. It seems some ups drivers will tell there buddies when a phone is being delivered (as the boxes say tmobile or htc on them) so that as soon as they delivered them to the house (which their trucks are tracked by gps so they HAVE to go to the location) their buddy grabs the box and leaves.
The driver gets to say it was delivered and then the problem lies with the person who ordered the phone. Shady stuff man.
Lesson learned always be there when a phone is being shipped.

Place an order for some gel cases and put some hidden cameras out in front and around your house. Could be fun.
I also like to have stuff delivered to work because I know it will be safe. however, t-mobile said they could only ship it to my home address. when I saw the UPS truck outside, I went out to meet the guy, and he actually asked me for ID. he said, this is a phone so I wanna make sure the right person gets it. I was thankful that he was being conscientious about it. too bad they don't all make that effort.

I recently added my mother to my account and we got her a free, plain jane flip phone. When we ordered it, it said that someone would need to sign for it. Of course my wife and I work so they left the sticky note and I picked it up at the distribution center. When I got the pre ordered, not even released yet, top of the line G2, they just left it on the porch. I don't know, seemed backwards to me.
Damn, sorry man. That really isn't cool. I recently had USPS "lose" my G2 while trying to have it returned. Still haven't heard anything about where it is. Looks like I'll have to file a claim which a lot of people here say USPS claims can take months. I had $500 in insurance, but it's still a pain in the ass. Now I'm not only weary of USPS, but T-Mobile and UPS. T-Mobile would NOT let me return the phone at a store since I pre-ordered. I will never pre-order anything from T-Mobile again.

FYI the shipper decides if signature confirmation is required (and if so, they pay extra.) Your only recourse is if a signature was required, but they dropped it off anyway. If so, UPS has to prove who signed for the package.
T-Mobile always flags *MY* packages as signature required. I don't see how this wouldn't be a company-wide policy.
To answer the question of how they know if your friends have it, when I worked as a csr I saw a few cases like that. Every phone shipped they have the imei for, if it activates on the system they know the phone number it activated on. If the number that activated it is in your call records the conclusion is that you know the person that has it. That kind of fraud came to my attention once or twice a month so pretty regularly. It sucks that a few dishonest people muck up what should be a simple process.

OK. SO, This was my first dealing with handtec or any of the overseas online companies.
It was on the 5th of November that I bought a Galaxy Note from them. Before I actually made the purchase, I used the "live support" to ask them regarding the availability of the product and quality support they can offer me after the purchase. The chat was very professional and I even got a discount with the phone. I ended up getting the sim free version for the price of the network logo version.
Few weeks after I received my phone, I finally have the time to have a good look of my phone, I found 3 dead pixels on the screen. Man! was I devastated! (for those of you remember my thread about it). I used the live support again and they suggested me to return it back to them asap and ensured me that everything will be taken care of and not to worry. I remember the operator said to me "Don't worry, handtec will take care of you"
After about 4 days of sending back the phone (which is today ).....my tracking status showed the item was delivered. So I immediately use the live support again to ask them about whether or not they have got the phone. They said they have, so I asked them when they will be sending the replacement back to me. They said they will try to send the replacement today.
I told them that I hope the replacement phone that I will be getting will be without dead pixels. I don't want to have to pay the expensive return postage again. They said they can help me to gain a peace of mind by letting them open my box to check to make sure. So I agreed (it took me a while to make that decision as I have always like the feeling of opening a brand new package )
I then logged off the live support, but as soon I logged off...I was like...oh crap!
I forgot to tell them to wear a glove and also make sure that none of the protectors were taken off while they check my screen. So I logged back on in about a minute after I logged off and asked them not to take off any protectors. Guess what they said to my surprise?! (apparently, it was the same operator)...and he said the check has already been done, nothing is wrong with the phone, and it is going to the warehouse as we speak, ready to be sent out today, and I will be getting it early next week.....
WOW....they must be SUPERMEN or something close....so professional and efficient.....
At this point....I would never hesitate to buy from them again in the future because they are very professional, responsible and efficient...
I will let you guys know when I actually receive the replacement back from them......and hopefully by then, I can also say...yay...my screen is PERFECT too

My experience has been near the same with them, sans the dead pixels. I placed my order with them at 1:30 EST (Im in the US) on the 28th of November. Email conformations were quick and informative. On the 29th I received an email stating that because of my first time order with them, and that I was overseas, I needed to answer some additional security questions (Credit Card Bank Authorization number, etc.) I responded quickly to this, and they continued the vetting process. I ended up calling them to be sure they had everything. They were very polite and helpful on the phone. Rather than continue to delay the shipment, they asked that they be able to send the shipment to my work address so that they didnt have to wait for the security team to validate my home address with my CC. Because of the time difference between the US and UK, they werent able to ship it on Tuesday. I checked my tracking number on Wednesday and found that they sprung for overnight AM shipping! So Thursday morning my package comes in (my only complaint here is that they didnt ship it in a box, it in a loose bubble envelope). All has been working great since! No dead pixels, and this phone is simply amazing!

Bought both SGS II and the Note from handtec. I'm probably going to continue the trend with Galaxy S III. Despite what some people say about handtec not selling "UK" version of the note, it's not like it matters much here in the US
Both times, my phones arrived in less than 24 hours from UK!!!

How did you reach them on the phone? I tried to call them many times, but all end up being referred to go to the website.
How can the package get there overnight? wow
what version of the note are they selling?? and where is it made (although i'm not quite sure what problems are inherent with which manufacturing site)

I agree that Handtec is a good/reliable company and also no offense to you but seriously..? In a minute? Come on... Since you said they asked for permission for opening it I assume it was opened/checked after you close the chat.
Lets see:
Closing chat with you and email or phone the Service Dept to check the phone? Time: 1-3min
Service Dept: Find your phone or any phone that will be sent, open box, open back cover and put presumably a used battery in it and start it up? Time: 5-10m if they haven't anything else to do.
Doing some quick tests directly on the phone or connected to the PC? I will give it another 3-8min because some pre-requirements might be needed.
Tests done and ready to ship, shutting phone down, removing back cover, out the battery, backcover on, phone in box closed, report made for the phone(not always), everything ready to sent and finally in it's way to the "warehouse"? Add another 10-20min
We are looking at about 20-40minutes if everything goes smoothtly. No offense OP but some common sense doesn't hurt here. Many people might jump to wrong conclusions reading that.

LOL....It is TRUE....when I was on the chat the first time I have already given him the permission to check the phone. I don't know how their company works, but when I logged back on (maybe about 30 seconds to 1 minutes after) He told me the phone has already been checked.
BTW....They only said they would check the screen with my new replacement phone as the problem with my faulty phone was with the dead pixels on the screen.
But seriously I am not sure how the company works.....I am suspecting that the company is quite small. So maybe their warehouse and return department are the same department, and maybe there are only a few people working in the company with each person doing multiple things. Therefore, it take less time for communication. I really believe they try to make their company look bigger than what it really is.
Finally, I was not being sarcastic when I told them they are supermen. I really thought that they were really efficient.
ps. all the things I have told you are what they have told me on the chat. who knows what really happened over there on the other side of the world.
They were pretty easy to get ahold of. I called their number that was listed on the website, reached an automated prompt, chose sales support and waited a few minutes on hold. Guy picked up pretty quickly. They have hours from like 7-5:30 UK time

You people must be really lucky to get the phone delivered so fast. I ordered mine with some accessories on the 29th, I have yet to get it. Fedex status says clearance delay. First, Customs wanted an itemized breakdown with value. Then they want an FCC form. Having sent many phones to the U.S, I would have expected Handtec to know what documents are required to get through Customs.
That aside their customer service is pretty good so far. I'm just frustrated I didn't have the phone over the weekend.
So finally received my gnote.
Powered up got the OTA and now I'm enjoying it. Handtec even credited my credit card because the price has dropped since I purchased it.

Ok....so I have finally received the replacement back from handtec. They have also given me a Travel Power Adapter as a gift. I think they have given me that because the phone was supposed to be sent to me last Friday but didn't end up getting sent on Monday (not really a big deal to me though).
I have quickly turned on the phone to check the screen and it looks fine. I am pretty sure it's a German version as there is a German Manual in the Box plus, the phone was in German when it first booted up. It is kind of weird because everything on the back of the box is in English and even says UK at the buttom.
Anyways...I will start using the phone tonight after it's being charged fully and with a screen protector on. Hopefully there will be nothing wrong with this handset
I must say this again at the end....I am very satisfied with handtec's customer service. I will definitely buy from them again!
Help, my nexus 4 never arrived from Google!
Okay this is a bit weird, but I ordered my nexus on Saturday, and yesterday, while at school, I received a shipping confirmation email from Google. I checked the tracking number in the email and it said the phone was already delivered. I was excited that my phone was there but worried because I wanted to have time to make a signature required. So I arrived home probably 6 hours later and there was no package. I checked near my apartment, near both entrances of my building and in bushes. I'm hoping it wasn't stolen, but I emailed Google, thinking maybe they gave me the wrong tracking number since it was a strange situation. They said no, so I called ups they said all they could do was have Google start a tracer? What is that? Will it find my phone? I'm so annoyed because shipping times just went up so a replacement will tale even longer.

I really think Google should of made it so a signature is required.. it's a pretty expensive package, and for UPS just to be able to leave it in front of your door is just stupid.. especially if you live in a bad area.. smh.
Did you check your leasing office? Maybe UPS dropped it off their? Call them and make them track is what truck and driver it was with and ask them where he dropped the box off at?
I think tracer makes the ups driver go back to all of his stops and look for it.
I usually have me packages auto signed online and remove that option when the package is expensive. Which is what I did with my last nexus. This time it was delivered before I could do that.
Oh well, I think Google gives me a refund and if ups finds it, they send it back to Google.
What probably happened is that they gave it to the wrong apartment and that person got a very nice Valentine's day present

Sorry to hear about this. A tracer for UPS will take up to 2 weeks. It has nothing to do with the driver. They basically go back through their tracking information and check each place where the package was scanned to see if they can find a clue. Not sure what your options are if that turns up negative. If the driver verifies he left it at your address it is almost impossible to prove it was stolen. Good luck.
Ha, don't give UPS so much faith. (Worked there for a summer during college).. All a "tracer" is going to do, is have the central office ask the drive what he did with the package. They will check the scan logs, to see if there are any note of whether the package was damaged or destroyed (for security reasons, any packages that become open at a UPS warehouse are Destroyed, but not before the employees pick through it) They might tell you that the driver is going to trace his steps for that day, but he won't He' can and probably will just say "I left it in front of the door" since there was no Signature Required for the package, technically UPS is not liable past the point of delivery, and as far as Google knows the package was properly delivered.
So its really a coin flip on what could happen. Heads UPS will probably claim they delivered the package to the proper location, and they are not responsible for what happens to it after that point, that's why they tell you to make arrangement for arrival of packages for when you are not home (ie: leave a note for the UPS drive to drop at a neighbors or to try back another day, or have a friend wait for the package) Or Tails (And this is highly unlikely) They will take fault for that package being misplaced and inform the shipper (Google) but packages sent via UPS or usually only Insured up to $100 (Might be different since the shipper is Google)
Words of advice: Go to UPS.com and Sign up for a My Choice account... Anytime you have a package sent to youUPS will email you the day before its Delivered, and they will email you the day it is delivered. Also, with a My Choice account you have the option of changing the Delivery options, so that you can have it held at a local UPS Customer Service Center for pick-up. This is very useful if you live in apartments.

Yup, same here. TNT definitely required a signature.
A tracer is usually done when a package has not been delivered, and does not have any recent scan activity at a center.
They usually send an urgent message to the center it was last scanned at and the management conducts an investigation to who handled the package last to find out where it went.
If you claimed damage they may send someone over to inspect the damage. If you claimed loss I don't know how they conduct the tracer to confirm that the package is lost. Perhaps they might ask or send the delivery driver to confirm where and when he dropped the package.

Well last time I ordered a nexus 4 (this one was for my wife) I required a signature and they delivered it anyway saying it was signed by m8 it or something that obviously wasn't a name.
So this time I was going to reroute it, but like I said before it was delivered before I knew it was shipped.
Anyway, I think Google covers lost OR stolen deliveries, so if ups doesn't try to look for it and claims they are not at fault and that it was stolen, I think Google still gives me a refund. We will see, still waiting for the rep I was emailing to respond.
