It used to be there, and now it's gone! i didn't do anything, soft reset doesn't help! any ideas?
Rob
Hi Rob
Having the same problem with the Xda Exec.
After I did a soft rest the battery icon desapered.
Anybody out they knows how to get it back on the Today Screen.
Please help.
Gigino
I actually searched for a while to find a way to remove the battery icon. In the end, the only way I'm aware of to remove it is to run this:
Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB
from the O2 XDA Exec extended ROM. Since I have a Jasjar I had to download that cab from the FTP site here. My guess is that you have an XDA Exec and you recently hard reset it and allowed the CABs in the extended ROM to run, or you ran that program from the extended ROM manually.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how you undo it once it's been run. It doesn't appear in Remove Programs and while I'm sure it just makes a registry change somewhere I haven't got a clue where
Personally, I never did like that battery icon anyway... it didn't seem to be terribly accurate and it was only visible from the today screen. I use the freeware program batti as a battery monitor instead.
hth,
Brett
I have the same problem, though I don't miss it that much. Must specify that in my case, it didn't happen after a soft reset, it just happened.
Have you not tried opening the CAB in WinRAR, manually looking at the files and attempting to find which registry entry it modifies? I can't find the CAB on the FTP site, but I'm not that bothered as I don't have a Magician but if someone passes me a link for it, I'll have a look.
try this regkey
HKLM\services\power\ShowIcon
Change the 0 to 1
Soft reset - and you're cookin'
Nice one, giving that a go now - slightly unrelated but I'm using GS Pocket Magic and when using the 'Close All' command, my shortcut bar buttons disappear, the ones at the bottom of the screen that read CONTACTS and CALENDAR.
Any ideas?

It's a known issue with Pocket Magic... there was a thread on it a while ago. From what I understand, there is some program or process that runs in the background that makes those shortcut buttons appear. Since Pocket Magic was designed for WM 2003 it doesn't know about that process, so it kills it when you do the close all. Since I'm no longer using Pocket Magic I don't know if anyone has managed to resolve the issue.
Brett
Ok, thanks for your reply - I notice PocketMagic has the functionality to NOT terminate certain programs (this option is in the Preferences for it), so if we can identify this process, we can exclude it...
I'll investigate...hang on!
Frustratingly my version of SKTools only lists the top 6 processes, if we can go through each one by one, we can suss out which process it is!
hi Robt,
to get back your battery icon, just do a hard reset and the battery icon it will appear again..it works for me. i've got same problem like you.
hope this help you and other
ps:i'm use universal with corporate install
good luck
NO Don't hard reset, thats just stupid!! For anyone looking for a genuine answer that won't cause loss of data, do this...as the chap recommends above.
1. Use registry editor to browse to 'HKLM\services\power\ShowIcon'
2. Change the value 0 to a 1
3. Soft reset
No data lost, and a nice battery icon for you!
since i dont have many data and many program installed in my exec, the simple things just do it my way (although u will lose your data). but hey that the simple way since i'm a beginner and it's difficult doing some registry hack for me. any way you can do it with hard reset or soft reset like ashley.
my 2 cents
Did you mean the batter icon at the top of the screen or at the bottom. Because the batter icon in the title bar is an O2 program that runs from a link in the start up folder.
The problem with doing it with a hard reset to get the battery icon back is: as soon as you perform a soft reset, you will again loose the battery icon. So there is no point really of performing a hard reset to get the battery icon back since you will loose it anyway if you perform a soft reset.
To me this battery icon is USELESS! Why? Its only purpose is a shortcut to Start>Settings>System>Memory>Battery level. To be completely useful to me, it should be a real INDICATOR icon of the actual battery level. But sadly it is not. Maybe this is the reason why they want it out of the way.
Plus, I use HandyMenu which has an option to show the battery level at an instant. Plus I get more functionality with it.
Maybe we're talking about different battery meters but mine appears bottom right hand corner and acfurately reflects the status of the battery - The simple registry change does it!

Yes, that is the icon I was referring to. The one that can be shown by what you posted.
HMMMMMMM, maybe I did not look hard enough on mine. I remmber on mine when my battery was 89%, the battery icon still looks like it was full, thus making my assumption it does not reflect the actual battery charge. I did notice that it shows if I have it plugged in though. Maybe I should try it again, now that my battery is low.

It does show the battery charge, but it does a terrible job of it. As I recall, the battery needs to get well past 75% before the icon shows anything but a full charge. It was really pretty useless if you ask me.

Thanks BrettS, you save me a reset. I was timing my lovely puppy here how long it can work without any problems without a soft reset. So far 5 days and still running in excellent condition. I am trying to prove to myself that pocket PCs nowadays are stable as can be. This is my first pocket PC and I was afraid to buy a pocket PC before because a lot of palm users said you need to soft reset PPCs a lot to get it running neatly. Now I know it is BOGUS and purely INCORRECT.

in my case, after performing a hard reset to get back my battery icon, i didnt
notice and didnt count exactly how many times after i performed soft reset then the battery icon gone again.because this my first experience with battery icon vanished. but as long i remembered, after i performed a hard reset then next day performed a soft reset, the battery icon still there.so i assumed that the best way for me to get battery icon back, since i'm not expert with registry hack and worried if do anything wrong with my new toys.
just want to share my experience with a beginner solution.
yeah maybe the icon is not usefull, but the icon looks cute.
Developed a strange problem -- was using Resco Keyboard Pro and it stopped working (I saw other msg threads on this so it's apparently not unique to me). Long story short -- ended up with a bricked TyTN (had the Imate ROM and ExtROM in it at the time) -- couldn't recover even with hard reset. So I reflashed the device and used the latest Cingular 8525 ROM with the HTC ExtROM (actually I also installed the Cingular ExtROM too). After tediously reinstalling all my software except Resco Keyboard Pro, it seemed to be working OK but then (within hours) I noted that the little keyboard symbol in the lower tray began disapearing -- it momentarily flashes when I start a program but is not there when I need to click on it and bring up the keyboard.
I'm baffled -- any suggestions are most welcome.
Hi,
seems I have nailed down one situation, when trion refused to boot through. Whenever I have WLAN active and the system hangs (happened last time today when trying to start up avantgo) its very likely the xda won't boot correctly after soft reset.
Usually I solved it by going to bootloader and softreset again. Today this didn't help, also booting with and without SIM/battery in all combinations didn't help.
So I connected the phone in bootloader mode and sent some commands via mtty.
Don't know why, but this helped the phone to boot again. Weird.
Now - is there a way to switch off WLAN via mtty in case it happens again?
Dirk
P.S.: never give up when the xda hangs, I refuse to use a hard reset (unfortunately it required xx reboot trials and 1 hour of my time...)
Hi,
still there are occasions, where my TyTN hangs at Windows Mobile screen while booting. I couldn't find any system behind it...
I had several suspicions:
- HTweakC while Power Saver Tweak was enabled,
- pBar, when being set to automatically load,
In both cases, removing this options seemed to help, but shortly after that the hangs came up again.
Did anybody else also experience frequently hangs while booting and could isolate some reasons for that?
P.S.:
I know some of the hangs are related with today plugins. The only I have currently is Birthdays 1.2.10. I just removed this as well, but the XDA seems to hang after the reboot again.
How likely are hangs at bootup time hardware related?
Is it a common problem with AKU2.3 and could an upgrade to 3.3 help?
I just don't want to mess around and waste a lot of time - would you suggest to send it in for repair?
(My operator claims, that I should do a hard reset. After that everything is fine. But why should I use an XDA without adding any more program and risking that behaviour?)

I have only ever had one hang on boot up. I have AKU 2.3. Used to get lots of freezing at other times, but it appears I have cured all that and it has settled down very nicely. I also have several today plugins spread over multiple desktops using WAD.
I just wonder (and I am no expert here) whether you may have a little corruption in boot up files. Have you actually tried a hard reset yet?
Having learned several lessons I took mine back to scratch with a hard reset and used SPB backup at each stage as I reloaded software. This way I am able to return to a nicely working setup (within 5 minutes) if I load something duff along the way.

Yep, did a hard reset and installed some programs. I will try to adopt your way of adding programs. Even if it takes a lot of extra time. Now I need at least 5-6 soft resets, until one works.
However - did anyone ever notice, that sometimes between the operator splash screen and windows mobile splash screen, there is a scrambled splash screen with vertical lines in windows mobile splash screen colors?

Do I understand you correctly - even after hard reset you still need several soft reset attempts to get it going?

Hi,
no... if its "O2 virgin" ROM its working.
okay, seems to answer my question regarding HW problem. It seems not to be one.
This is the SW I then installed (maybe in different order):
- Avantgo
- Flashplayer 7
- tcpmp
- SPB Gprs monitor (came with the hardware)
- Clearvue PDF viewer (came with the hardware)
- Birthdays plugin
- HTweakC
- SK Tools
- pBar
I removed battery and communication manager Icon from frontscreen with HTweakC and tried the battery saving tweak. More I can't remember.
I will pay attention now with setting it up again. Did some of the above ring a bell?

Nothing obvious but I wonder about pbar given it appears to monitor a lot of actions and will load at start up.
I'd also do the following with backups before and after. It's a pain doing some of this from scratch if things go pear shaped.

anway to fix? it freezes up whenever phone turns on
try installing SPB Pocket Plus or SPB Phone Suite, not sure which one has it but one of these programs allows you to goto into Safe Mode if the hangs let's say 2 times in a row..oh wait damnit..your phone is already froze...
Sorry I don't know what I could say to help..hard reset maybe?
Trust me install those 2 apps after...
company is called 'SPB Software House'. Not very expensive programs but really worth it.
cheers!
SPB Pocket Plus is the one:

Unfortunately, not going to help you with a non-booting phone now (hard reset is the only way out) but next time it happens you'll be very glad you installed it!
Hi,
I recently dropped my HD2 while I was trying to put it in my pocket (no leather case), and it dropped from one meter approximatively. Nothing seems broken, BUT the on-screen keyboard used to type messages and other stuff seems to type all by itself, and sometimes won't respond to any tactile commands.
The thing is, this only happens in the messaging app, and one day before dropping the phone, I installed HTC's HD2 sms hotfix, so I was thinking that might be the cause of the problems.
Any suggestions? All I tried was a soft reset, which did nothing.
Uninstall sms update. if that doesnt work then hard reset.
If still faulty the get your phone fixed.
I`m sure that it`s because of the drop; the same **** happends in other menus, as well as in mobile word and anything else; i think there is no solution other than getting it fixed...
