The dreaded SMS issue but stranger than normal. - HD2 General

I have an O2 supplied HD2 which I updated to 1.48 a few weeks back. Up until about a week ago I have had no issue with the SMS 'stuck in outbox' bug. Then it slowly started happening. So I installed the disable HTC Messaging cab which got it working again, only to have it stop working a few days later. So I performed a hard reset, only to find straight afterwards (without installing anything) I still cannot send texts either through the HTC app or the WM default one with HTC disabled. I seem to be receiving them fine though.
Anyone else had this? Surely following a hard reset the problem should go away, or at least on a temp basis and at least if HTC messaging is disabled? Is it worth upgrading to 1.61 to see if it fixes it?

My advice? Dont waste your time upgrading to 1.61. Its a great ROM but was out before HTC had got the fix out for the SMS, a fix that sadly doesn't work on any ROM.
I've gone from 1.43 to 1.48 to 1.61 and back to 1.48.
HTC are escalating the issue further which should mean another hotfix soon.

The stock ROM is definitely a disaster...the HTC staff that creates this stock ROM should be kick out...
To solve the SMS issue permenantly, goto
Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Advanced Network > SMS Service.
Change from "GPRS Preferred" to "GSM".
Remember to perform this operation again if you hard-reset your device.

Already done this, it doesn't work. Neither does adding +44 to the SMS center number, another suggestion that is quite often made.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm currently downloading the 1.43 O2 rom that came with my phone, I had absolutely no SMS issues with this.

TF3D Voicemail Message

Hello!
I've purchased a Touch HD a couple of weeks ago.
But I have a problem with the notification on TF3D homescreen saying there's one new voicemail message.
When I call voicemail, listen to the message, delete it, the notification does not go away.
I've searched the forums, and the solution to call myself and leave a message and then delete it does not fix the problem.
Also a soft reset does not make it dissappear.
Is there a register hack to remove the message?
Or something else I can do to make it go away?
H.
this is a bug - mine is doing the same thing.
And there's nothing we can do to solve it?
H.
Not sure if this will help but I had the same problem with an old wm device. The trick was to listen to the message, delete it/save it then wait a couple of seconds before hanging up.
similar problems with my old hermes and the problem was to do with sms_providers.dll file.
I had to replace this file.
Do a search in hermes directory
I think this may be due to the phone not being correctly setup for the network. I've had this on other WM handsets after flashing the ROM - and sorted the problem by installing the correct settings for the network, otherwise I'd get these kind of problems and sometimes strange SMSs with control characters in them.
Try going to "Connection Setup" in Settings -> Connections and resetting to the correct network & country.
Hope that helps.

lol - of course its set up for the correct network. I made sure it was one of the first things I did!
Well, tried the solution with the sms_providers.dll change, but no luck.
Actually I don't think that was going to work anyway because I don't get weird text messages saying new voicemail.
That works just fine. The only problem I have is that it displays the 1 one voicemail message in between the call info and the calendar on my home screen. And what I try, it just won't go away.
I've also tried to reset the connection setting, but that didn't help also.
I'm going nuts about this!
Is no one else having this issue?
For your info, it's a dutch official rom version.
H.
Also when I leave myself 2 voicemails it still displays 1 new voicemail message.
It appears to be stuck.
Is there a registry setting for tf3d to remove this or something??
H.
Ok,
I've done a hard reset and the notification is gone now.
Hopefully it's not coming back anymore!
Thankz for all your help!

Okay, I just sent myself a voicemail and when I retreived it I deleted it and waited until the voice said deleted and then I pushed * to exit and now the notification is gone from my screen. I don't know if I had to do all of that but it worked anyways.
Registry Fix to Clear Voicemail Indicator
Using any registry editor go to the following keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/System/State/Messages/vmail/Line1/Unread
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/System/State/Messages/vmail/Line2/Unread
Display values and change Count value back to zero.
Worked like a charm!

SMS not always sending

Hi all, I switched my phone to the latest EnergyROM WM6.5 Rom from Miri's 6.5 rom to give it a try and I have to admit I love it. My only gripe is that I struggle to send text messages, a problem I had with a few previous roms but it seems to be getting worse. I'm not using Manilla, I just use the Titanium front end and not the threaded SMS system. I can type either a new message or reply to someone, with full strength on my phone and many times it comes up the message could not be sent, so I have to go into drafts and send it again and sometimes it will go and others it wont. Its driving me insane as I use my phone primarily for texting and I dont ever remember having this problem on the original Orange rom. Has anybody else come across this?
P.S. Sometimes at the bottom of the messaging app it says Error Synchronizing if that makes any difference
Maybe flash another ROM and also radio. Or try a hard reset, maybe it will solve your issue

I've tried a number of roms (Dutty, Miri & EnergyROM), I always hard reset at least twice after flashing and have tried the 1.13 and 1.14 radios (With and without the Rilphone.dll addon) and still have the problems at random. It doesn't happen all the time which I find confusing, sometimes it will refuse to send an SMS a couple of times then will send it no problem

Possibly try going to Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Advanced and then deselect/turn off 'Add home country prefix to phone numbers etc etc'

I've tried that one but that particular option isn't in the latest energyrom release which is currently my favoured rom, although I cannot seem to find anyone else posting this problem with that rom

Hi
Try these:
1. Go to Settings - Connections - Advanced Network, select SMS Service tab and select "SMS over GSM Preferred".
2. If you still have problems:
Settings - Personal - Phone - Band, select GSM as your network type. (You lose 3G services though).
3. Another solution is to update to the latest RADIO (see ROM DEVELOPMENT section TOPAZ area) but first ensure you MUST have HARDSPL installed first otherwise you will damage your phone!
4. Lastly Hard reset your phone (Settings - System - Clear Storage) but backup pictures, data etc as this method will remove everything (except format memory card which you dont need to do).
Good luck!
Aussie
thanks for all that but it still wont work
Have you installed any programs that changes sms like Zenyee's disable HTC messaging? Only saying it as I installed that particular one and couldn't send sms until I took it back off. May be worthwhile going through the list of installed programs to see what you have.

I had the problem for a couple days after getting my hero. I connected it to my task killer. Here's some stuff you can try.
reboot and try agian
make sure auto recieve is on
update your prl
download 3rd party messenger app
restore to stock
if still screwed up... contact sprint
I haven't had the first problem with my sms's after rooting and installing a modaco's rom
Make sure you enable auto-retreival of sms and mms in whatever messaging app you're using and report back to us.
well i updated the prl. i have no idea what that is, but apparently it worked. did that and rebooted and it seems to be working fine now.

Few steps:
1. Go in to the default Messaging app > Menu > Settings and uncheck retreive sms and mms > uncheck notifications
2. Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage > Messaging > Clear Defaults
3. Go to the people app, do like your going to send an sms message, a pop up will come up asking which app yyou'd like to do this from > check-mark default and select your preffered messaging app
4. paypal me $1

UPDATE: BALLS!!! it don't work... :/
what does work is under people > contact > hold down on send message and you can choose default
I just started having this problem after doing the root and modaco rom. I have tried a PRL update, hard reset, and numerous soft resets, verified my auto-receive settings and have tried the stock app as well as handcent.
Any ideas?

Notifications are turned off by the following:
Go into the Default Messaging app (HTC's buggy one)
Menu > Settings > Scroll Down and Uncheck Notifications
well it went from working earlier today to not working again. i cant figure it out. nothing changed and at somepoint today,i stopped getting my texts. my wife called me from work wondering why i hadnt gotten back to her cos she had texted me 3 times. i was texting with her back and forth earlier in the day and now nothing. they send fine. i just stop getting them

Are you saying you removed the stock messaging application? If so, my understanding is that would be very problematic at best. Unfortunately the Hero still uses some code from the default Messaging app (even if you are using Handcent SMS or Chomp and have it set as the default SMS client)
"Long time listener. First time caller"
not the stock messaging app, the stock app
So, the more I'm reading about this issue, the more it appears this is possibly a permanent problem on the device once it appears. I have tried everything and cannot receive a text.

Can you provide a list of all the sprint/stock stuff that you removed?
So I called sprint tech support today. The tech was pretty helpful and seemed to be familiar with the hero. After 30 mins of various tests he came to the conclusion that I had originally suggested (bluetooth causes low ROM) and asked me to exchange the phone at a local store because htc wants this "batch" of phones back.
I find it hard to believe this issue is limited to a "batch" of phones as that would indicate that they know exactly what is causing the problem and would be able to fix it.

SMS issue

Hi all,
I'm using the factory Messages program & I noticed that in some conversations (not all) my replies are misplaced.
They should be the last message in the threaded sms, but they're not.
I did a hard reset, but am still having the same problems.
Please advice,
D
Are you using a 3rd party sms app? What ROM are you using?
Have the same issue - factory, bone stock device. All my incoming SMS's are 4 hours behind, so they often show up far before my latest outgoing SMS in a conversation.
Some people recommended changing your time-zone around to adjust for the difference when I searched around, but then the rest of my phone gets messed, e.g. email timestamps are then wrong.
It's a network issue I think. I have an unlocked TELUS HTC Hero and an unlocked Virgin Mobile HTC Legend and both suffer the same timestamp problem (mine is 4 hours behind) when used on Rogers Wireless. I thought it might be an Android related problem, but my Sony Ericsson X10 didn't have the problem. /shrug
There is an app that will fix the problem though. Search for “SMS Time Fix” by Matthew Precious.
I'm using stock app. stock ROM.
Right now my setting is:
Menu > Settings > Date & time > Automatic (Use network-provided values).
I'm gonna un-check Automatic & select my own timezone see if that fixes the issue.
Will report back.
Thanks all.
D
Everything stock here too. Try the app posted above to fix it.
ok,
downloaded & installed the SMS Time Fix by Matthew Precious.
But now I have another problem:
When the newly incoming message arrives, it'll show on the status bar. When I pull down the bar to go to that message, I can't find it. meaning the new message is deleted automatically.
The only program I can blame is the SMS Time Fix program.
I uninstalled the program, & so far so good.
weird..
D
