[REF] SMS Thread Loading Time - WORKAROUND - HD2 General

While playing with my HD2 I discovered a workaround for the SMS thread loading time/tap to compose delay. This is VERY bodge-job, but also goes to prove that the HD2 is MORE than capable of loading long conversations quickly, but there's just a coding error on HTC's behalf.
Firstly, you might want to time how long it takes you to open a long thread normally. With one of my contacts I get a whopping 21 seconds.
Ok so here's the simple workaround:
Open up your SMS thread
Straight away, hit the send key/button
It should ask you if you're sure you want to send a blank message - wait half a second or so (dependant on your thread size), then press "No"
Tadaaa! Your thread should be FULLY loaded, and you can begin typing
If you don't wait half a second or so before pressing no, it seems to give a graphical glitch which keeps the SMS slider faded for a little while and doesn't allow you to tap to compose as quickly.
My guess is that by fading out the SMS thread with the confirmation dialogue, you are essentially disabling the graphical loading bar/transition of messages into the thread, and as a result, the loading time is FAR quicker.
I think it goes to prove that the problem is a GUI coding error.
Anyway, I hope this helps others until HTC get off their backsides and fix this.

Thanks.
The same can be achieved by clicking on one of the loaded messages in the thread so that a menu pops up..then cancel out of it.
Alternatively, when on the HTC Sense message tab, click ALL Messages and just open the message you want to reply to.

SMS Glitch, does your HD2 do this?

Ok, does anyone else have this problem. Whenever i get a new text message, whether i open it up with the message icon at the bottom or the notification at the top, after i start typing it will then highlight what the other person just sent to me and turns the screen where i type blank, and to see what i have typed and continue typing i have to touch the screen where my typing appears again and continue typing. Any idea why this happens, its kind of annoying the piss outta me!
I have no idea, but it's happen to me too. Sometimes it highlights the received message but still allows me to type without seeing the letters appear on the blank screen.

Yes, it happens to the two I have as well... One of which is being replaced,(hardware failure)
ya, well i wonder if there is a way to fix this in the registry or something. it really bugs the crap out of me sometimes.
I think its a universal glitch. However, the problem happens to me less now that I'm running Kumar's TMOUS C1.6 WWE ROM
Yes, it happens for me too.
Happens to me too, smh. I'm turning the phone back on Wednesday
This happens to me as well! Almost every time! Drives me up the wall!!!please wait 2 seconds for an uncompressed image, or press Ctrl+F5 for original quality page
What ROM version do you have? Stock? Custom? Latest 2.13?
This is the reason I have htc messaging disabled!
Happens all the time, it's just a software bug hopefully it'll get fixed in the future.
mine pauses when i txt also but its not worth giving up the phone for a few glitches.a bubby got the pheone and is freaking out because its not as smooth as his mytouch.so he is going to take the phone back.
I have the latest ROM and texting still SUCKS!! unbelievable....Hold your phone landscape and have someone send you a text while you are writing one, ridiculous.
I have the same problem also. maybe the new official update will fix it. If not, and I disable htc messaging. which sms app should i use?
I had this problem with the original 2.10 rom. Now that i've updated to the 2.13 rom the problem is solved

It's solved because you have 0 SMS in the conversation, it ll start annoying you when you have like more than 20 SMS.
I got a call on firday , and the tech said they can reproduce the SMS delay / jump to last SMS problem.
But cannot find any bug in HTC sense, that kind of means they will NEVER fix it.
Hopeless.
I think they definitely think it's a feature other than a problem even so many people complains.

I have seen that myself. Had about 40 messages in that thread and I could see the scroll bar getting smaller and smaller on the right hand side of the screen, and once it finished getting to the size that it needs to be for the amount of messages, it happens. I try to keep my sms sizes small due to this. It gets quite annoying at times.
this is one of the things that is the most annoying of all! I hate it and theres no way to fix it apparently.. gay
the only way i have overcome it is, well i sold the first HD2 i had and got an iphone, well now i just got another HD2 yesterday directly from Tmo cause i broke my iphone, my new HD2 has the lastest ROM on it, but set the Message shortcut to your homescreen and when you recieve a new message dont open it with the message icon on the bottom where the sense icons are and open your message with the message shortcut icon, this way i have noticed it doesnt highlight the last message that person sent you.

the new Tmo ROM update fixes that problem, It slows the sensitivity and processing of what you type down, but it no longer highlights the incoming message. choose which poison you wish to have

SMS - message text disappears - reappears

When responding to sms messages I find that as I am typing the message the words are appearing as desired but then sometimes the text stops appearing in the message mid way through as I continue to type and the previous message is highlighted for no reason that I can understand. I then tap on the message window where I am writing and everything that I typed, which was not being displayed is there. Annoying, happens frequently.
i second that motion...
happens to me 2, btw do you have the tweak where there is a send button above the insert file option?
thought it might be that?
Nope, I don't have that tweak.
yeah, happens to me too, I'm in the uk on t-mobile. its really irritating

For the problem regarding the message disappearing then reappearing if you tap on the input area i have no clue why is that so and wondering is there a fix for that, or probably custom roms do not have that problem.
However, if you want to prevent the problem of "previous message is highlighted for no reason.." i suggest each time you reply to a message in HTC Sense, use the right softkey and choose reply, the previous message is probably highlighted because you tap on the actual message and start replying from there, as you chose to enter the messaging client to view that message and the HTC MESSAGING CLIENT takes time to load all the messages from that contact, it will highlight that particular/latest message after loading all the previous messages associated with the contact hence the highlight interrupting your reply.
P.S sorry for my lengthy answer
That doesn't solve the problem as that option is not available in the message string view.
Yeah, i experience this problem too
i'm using 1.66 WWE ROM and im pretty sure its just on 1.66
Everyone using this ROM experiences it if you're in Conversation mode and select the text to reply..
Basically if you have a lot of messages with 1 person, the HD2 is loading the messages WHILE you're typing, and once its done loading, it will highlight the previous message and thats where your cursor disappears..
i'm still looking for a solution to this too
i'm curious if this appears on cooked ROMs like Duttys..
cause if it doesnt, i would probably think of upgrading haha
I got a similar issue, although it's not just SMS, but emails too. Another guy reported the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6283141&postcount=2. Waht's going on suddenly?

The reply option is available when you go under menu>reply under the messaging preview in SENSE. For the highlight option, haven't found a solution to that either!

To enable graphic send icon button in HTC Messaging
The following registry tweak adds a graphic send button above the paperclip button. It also changes the 'send' left soft key to a 'back' soft key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg
Change from 1 to 0.

thanks Franwella but I have it already I was just ruling out the possibility that the tweak in some way effected the original topic of this thread

Ah-ha! Sorry. I misunderstood.
I'm afraid I can't shed much light on the problem. I have the same issue but only very occasionally. Every now and again it happens but not consistently. I haven't been able to pin down a cause.
Me neither - I cannot say why sometimes it does it and other times it does not when operating the phone in the same fashion.
You guys need to log this with customer services so that they can get onto it for the forthcoming firmware update. This phone is not that new anymore and there will probably only be the odd software update coming in future.
I always just hide the keyboard and reopen it.

OK, from where you are sat this is an 'endearing characteristic' of your phone and from where the rest of us are sat it's a bug.
Really common bug, reported here also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585055
Please report it to HTC, it might get fixed then!

Never said it wasn't a bug, I just offered a simple fix. The same thing happens to me as well.
That's not a fix as it does not prevent the problem from reoccurring, it only remedies the symptom.
If this is affecting you, you need to report it to HTC.

Swype Making SMS Lag? (Partial Solution)

This is for those who don't feel comfortable upgrading to a cooked ROM and want to preserve their warranties. If this has been mentioned, mods, feel free to delete thread.
So when Swype is used to create text messages, it needs all messages from that contact to load prior to being used. Any contact conversation that has over ~100 texts (inbound/outbound) will require a dumb amount of time to load prior to you using Swype. I absolutely love Swype and all qwerty methods of input seem ancient and insufficient after using it.
So, since I realized the loading of messages was the culprit, I simply switched over to traditional mode. When you receive a text, click the messaging home screen tab, go "All Messages", "Menu", "Settings" and choose "Traditional Mode". I'm sure many of you are aware that it exists and have been using it. So, when replying, I tap the messaging home screen tab, go to "All Messages", "Inbox", tap on the new text, "Menu" and "Reply". This allows Swype to only load that specific text, eliminating the lag or wait time typically needed in "Conversational Mode". I am now using Swype with contacts who have +1,000 messages with zero lag.
This may seem like a few extra steps just to reply to a text, but ultimately, it comes down to what you want out of it. I tend to be a rather lengthy text messenger and can fly with Swype, so the time it takes to navigate to a reply is far less than the time it would take to type out a message using an input method other than Swype.
This thread is only for those who are waiting for a firmware/Sense UI fix from HTC TMOUS and I don't deem this any type of permanent solution. I apologize if this has already been mentioned and if so, as previously stated, mods please delete/lock. Hopefully this sheds some relief to those of you irritated with Swype and the fact that it takes so long to load in "Conversational Mode".
If you want to keep conversation mode.
When you go to your messages and it is starting load, quickly hit send then say no to sending a blank sms message. Amazingly it has been completely loaded.
Hmm. I have heard of that method as well, but didn't seem to work for me. Hopefully others will find either way useful.
It works for me but I've noticed that the more messages you have in a thread, you have to do it more than once to get all the texts to load. I just really hate the traditional mode. What I really dont get is if we have a workaround for this then why cant the app do it automaticaly?! Maybe someone can or already did discover a reg tweak to change this! Time to search the forums!!

Genius Button...Please wait

Does anyone else have a problem with having to wait for the Genius system to catalog contacts? When I press the button - and sometimes I have to press it 2-3 times for it to bring up the application - I then have to wait for 5-10 seconds just for the "Please wait" box to appear and for the app to process the contact list. So after 20-30 seconds I can finally speak my request.
This just seems too long of a delay for me. I could call the person via faves faster or I can activate the voice search from the search widget and have my results in this time.
If I'm the only one having problems with this I may have a defective phone and I would like to replace it before it's too late but if this is common occurance then I will just avoid using the button.
The first time I use it i get the same thing catalog contacts but then its fine the next time. I don't use it a lot so I am not sure how often it needs to catalog contacts
well about a hour later I had to wait again
Yeah, I don't use any kind of task-killer and according to Status the process is still running but it still delays every time I open it even if it's only 15 minutes later and I haven't opened anything else.
I have the same issue, it makes the genius button essentially useless, I like the concept but it's unusable for me.
The genius button was useless exactly because of this. And, yea, I thought I had a defective phone possibly as well, but its just a not so genius button. The TV commercials make it look so much faster. I prefer the google search widget with speech intents. It is soooo much faster and more efficient, especially if you change the genius button to a dedicated search button.

Window Transitions/Animation

I guess the question has come up already a dozen of times, but I wasn't able to find any relevant previous threads so here it goes...
I've read several times already it is impossible to add window animations to WM (6.5) .
However, when I open an email from the default MS email app that comes on my HTC Touch2 with default ROM, it clearly fades to the new email window. Even the closing "X" in the top right corner fades to an "ok" icon.
How is this possible?
Also, this app: (CRT fade out Animation)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843480
clearly applies effects to the screen image.
Someone please clear things out :/
It is possible quite easily, if you know where to search. I'd go on this with the same way I did my pinch to zoom project some time ago - hacking the app's WndProc and when message for eg swipe gesture to change message comes, grab screen content, fade it, send the message through, fade in and all other messages meanwhile just normally send through.
But remember, this takes a lot of code and it is not worth it, it would just slow down the WM itself.
Thanks, a lot, for replying.
I really want to look into this for some reason. So if you say it's possible...
I was also wondering if it's possible to catch all windows' close events...
