@All,
As a celebration for my 1000th post, I decided to open a new thread based on Tweakman's idea, which seemed to work very well in the Development and Hacking Section. The idea is simple, a single thread for all Questions, Problems, and Concerns regarding Blue Angel. This includes, but it is not limited to:
*Problems with Flashing.
Can't get your device in bootloader? Did it freeze during flashing and now it doesn't get past the 4 colored screen? Are you a complete noob and need some guidance as to how to flash? Etc.
*Have questions about which Rom is best?
*Want to install software but don't know if it is compatible with your BA
You get my point. All the questions that I have seen/answered over the past couple of months are just repetitions of posts, threads, and things that are readily available on the wiki or in other threads. However, people are either lazy, don't know what a Wiki is / where to find it, or just flat out don't know how to search (or read the forum rules for that matter). Having something general (in this case a sticky) that says "Hey, if you have a question, you can ask here" should draw enough attention and start minimizing the number of new threads and posts opened by users (both new and seasoned). This way, we will be able to keep the development threads a little cleaner and smaller... hence making the site's search function work a little better in the process.
@Seniors,
Kinda like the Q&A team, I will need your help in trying to keep the influx of questions to a certain level by answering them as we see them. None of us are logged in 24/7 (or at least some of us aren't ), but if you guys see a question, please try to answer it. I know that xplode, Chef_Tony, markanthonypr, red_hanks, sun_dream, imatrix, +Que_PPC, motisu, and others normally try to keep this under control, but if we centralize it and contain it, we will have a cleaner forum.
Reserved for future use.

You know very well you can count on us. Great idea mate. Also congrats on your 1,000's post. I've added a few "tags" to the thread. I hope some others do the same to. Tags help users to find what they are looking for when they use search.

Hey homam,
Thanks for kicking things off
First of all, which OS were you having problems with? This is important because it could have been a bug in a rom that could have been fixed in a later version.
@mark,
I know I can count on you, buddy I need help from the mods as well though. I cannot redirect posts to here and/or close threads
My BA, keeps turning on from standby, by a light shock! I maen, if you press the Power button, and then you knock gently on it's back, it turns back on!!
I've set to "Lock all buttons except the power button", However, I still have this issue.
Well, I must confess that once it dropped off of my hand, and it's the result of that...
Any ideas?
by "it turns back on" i assume you mean it wakes up from stand by, it doesn't really start like after a soft reset, right?
since the BA's only battery activated wake-up is in the cradle and we are not talking about soft reset, my first guess is, the battery is not to blame.
have you checked whether you can use your camera at all time? i mean, the camera_detect does not usually run at all times but if the camera connector is a little lose, from now and then it could "discover" the new camera hardware and wake up, that is unlikely for normal devices, but if yours had a crash before...
you could refer to this site for checking possible hardware reasons:
http://www.land-of-kain.de/ppc/mda3/disassembly/
the hardware things aside, there are also many possible software reasons for the device to wake up on:
- update of titanium weather
- automatic email checking
- cell broadcast
- if bluetooth is on
- if beam is on
- automatic update of any software...
plus of course the usual:
- incoming call
- incoming text message
- incoming mms
- upcoming calendar event...
so please check the possible software wake ups first to make sure this is really a hardware issue, because that would be a shame, that could be tricky to solve.
or let me put it this way, if it is really the moving that wakes it up, you have the first BA with accelerometer
EDIT: last but not least, it could only be a bug, maybe a hard reset or change of the rom could also be a way to go, since spontaneous waking up is a known bug for BAs
Chef_Tony
If there was only a way to hack the hardware and make this work at least on Edge. I can live with everything else, but its a shame paying for a full unlimited Internet service and only getting G connection Sighhhhhhh
Ok, I had to let that frustration out !!!!!!

Wow! Tony! I really appreciate your complete answer. I mean it.
Yes, as you correctly assumed, I meant wake-up. It just wakes up and continues the routine WinMo operation; no soft-reset occurs.
It's less than a year that I've replaced the battery with a new one. I remember all the funny things used to happen when the old battery was dying. But non of them were similar to this one.
It can't be the Camera. Well, I'm able to use it all the time, and the "camera_detect" has been always loaded in the processes whenever I've checked it. About the looseness thing, ummm, I'm not sure. I tried to knock on it to see if it's more sensitive than other parts. I think the upper part of the device is more likely to wake it up by an easy hit (like knocking). but it's the whole upper part, not only the camera section nor the camera button.
Unfortunately, the software possibility, is unlikely to be the problem:
I've used many ROMs on my lovely BA which 3-4 times of them taken place since the wake-up problem.
The software and the usual reasons you counted, do wake it up. but shakes, too.
Finally, to be honest, I'm agree with you! This is the first Blue Angel with accelerometer. yeaaah! I did it!
I bet my friends that I can wake my BA up, without touching any buttons or screen! It's fun this way, but I comes to be annoying when I put it in my pocket or just put it on a table! and it wakes up... consider the forced battery consumption, unwanted screen taps if I don't lock the screen. God bless A_C! and... .
I know it's a hardware issue (((((
@raizaM: My Thought.... Have you ever taken it apart? One of my BA's had 3 loose bolts inside. All 3 were from what I think is the Radio/Antenna part at top. However, in my case, I had a rattle going inside. Thats why I put it apart. You might have something loose inside, causing a connection to arc when you knock on your phone. If you do deside to open it, there is a tutorial on the wiki on how to.

Hey mark!
I had that same issue a while back, but with only one screw (also from the same area as yours).
@raizaM
Just to knock off Chef_Tony's theory out of the table completely, try to erase camera_detect.lnk from \Windows\startup and SR your device. If Chef was right, then your issue might be gone. However, I would follow markanthony's advice and take it apart in case Chef's idea doesn't work.
Oh man, your not my hero anymore LoL.. and here I thought I would be the only one with a mechanic inside my phone.

Thanks for your kind advices.
Actually, I tried to remove "camrea_detect" from the startup once, but any way, I gave it a shot again... no success...
Frankly, I'm a lil bit afraid to take my lovely BA apart... :-s... What if... :-(
But, I guess sooner or later I need to do so. so what the heck... lets do it.
Maybe I'll do it tonight. Guys please help me through it. I don't wanna loose my Angel!

raizaM: You're not going to go that far deep. Only remove the cover. If you look at picture #4 on that link, the top green area has about 6 bolts all around it. Those were the ones that were loose on mine. 2 of them were rattling inside the phone. I still can't believe they didn't cause a short circuit. You don't need to go down into the camshell area. Do you use the sliding keyboard? If so, you could have a bad flex cable. But, don't worry about tha for now. Just remove back cover and carefull inspect for loose bolts. Don't over tighten them.

It seems that you have the backlight settings set to dim/turn off too fast. Go to \Settings\System\Backlight and modify the settings in there (particularly the ones labeled "On Battery Power"). Then, soft reset the device (stylus on the bottom).
Hope this helps.

not the setting, it got black scren, its dead screen after running wifi or application, suddenly goes dead, black screen,.
Have you tried with another battery? It sounds to me like your battery is about to die. It won't hold the heavy battery consumption of Wi-Fi and heavy CPU usage while on Games. Try with another battery. Also make sure you followed Egzthunders suggestion to change your Power Settings. If you still need help, post back and include more info about your device, such as, what version of Windows are you running and how old/new is your battery.
How to start a small Earthquake with your Touch Pro 2.
Step 1: Go to Settings, and set Phone to either Vibrate, Vibrate and Ring or Ring then Vibrate.
Step 2: Have someone call the same device that was set to vibrate and be prepared to hold on to something!
Yes. This was sarcasm Sorry if it wasn't your type of humor, but I just wanted to get across the fact that the vibration for the Touch Pro 2 (for Sprint at least) is insane. If my Ringer Volume isn't at it's max, the vibration will drown out the sound for the Ringer.
Also, if I'm in class (I'm a college student) and I have it set to vibrate, every single person in the class knows I have a call/text. A little ridiculous with the class is about 70 people.
I've posted a thread on PPC Geeks and people have similar problems, but no luck finding a fix and/or making a fix. Anyone here feel the same way?
Anyone know of a fix or can maybe experiment on a fix?
(Again, sorry if this wasn't funny, I thought I could add a little humor to the issue, lol)

Here's the right fix: don't have your phone on during class -- listen to the prof instead (some humour and sarcasm back atcha).
I'm just going to assume there is no fix. lol
I seem to remember some time ago, when searching for Touch Pro (1) Tweaks, that there was a registry key that could be edited to change the vibration level. Who knows, it may still work. Though if you find it and you go that route, be sure to read all instructions. If it doesn't work, then you will either have to edit it back to the original, or delete the key (in the event that the key was not there). In extreme cases, you might have to do a factory reset, so backing up is reccomended (Microsoft Myphone is good for backing up nearly all unrecoverable things, like address book, pics, documents, texts, etc.
As I rarely have vibrate turned on, I haven't really run into this problem, yet. But this may be a solution worth looking into.

If anyone could do that, it would be bloody effing awesome. I've been looking everyday, searching in threads for any fixes but nothing. I've tried myself a little bit but I'm not a...expert, lol at the whole registry things.
Ha! Same thing happens to me in class so I just set it on silent and deal with not being notified of anything. I've never had a phone vibration that actually startled me, but it happens.
There's a couple of registry fixes I've seen for this, it never really bothered me. I just open my phone up like a laptop and put it on silent when I'm at work.. if anything comes up it shows up on the screen.
I'm sorry I can't actually provide you with those registry fixes, you'll have to spend a night searching through the forums or google.
BUT http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-vibro.html
This program here might help change the vibrate pattern making it not as long of a vibrate cause I know my text messages do a solid vibrate for a good 2-3 seconds it feels like..
Hope this helps.
PS.. Why are you awake in class anyways, I slept through all of my classes.

lmao very good question. Maybe a very good answer is that the vibration wakes me up! lol
Solution: Silent :O
Don't forget this is a "business" phone and as such people like to pretend to be being considerate by switching their phone to vibrate but still want people in the room to know how important they are in that they are being contacted all through the meeting.
Sarcasm aside I would say the vibrate on mine (T-Mo TP2) is weak to say the least. Often don't notice its vibrating... So if you find a setting, I'd like to ramp mine up!

Anyways, I suppose my sarcasm in the first post opened a door for a little less productive sarcasm. Anyways, I have still been searching and have found nothing.
It's interesting to know that the T-mo TP2 has a lower vibration! Very peculiar. I'll keep looking through my registry but so far I have come up dry.

i think the vibration is strong for my tmo tp2. i work at wal mart part time and it gets very busy and loud. when i get a message the managers that are next to me can hear it vibrate through my pocket! so i've been leaving it on silent lately.

Maybe there was sarcasm meant back, but not sure it should be classified as "a little less productive" as, seriously, why do you need the vibrate active in class anyway and can't just switch it to silent?
LOL...yea good sarcasim! I cant put my phone in vib during meetings either, just too loud. But I think it is the truth in most of the pda phones! Best way to deal with this is put in silent.
wow to think this is a problem is kinda funny. i totally understand how the loudness would be a problem for some but for the first time in a long time with a mobile phone i can have the device set on vibrate and actually know the device is vibrating. last time i could use effective vibration setting was back in the RIM 950/957 days maybe even older skytel pager days....
good luck in your search and if you find a way to make it even stronger send the info my way

Did anyone have success with the .cab?
I'm also seeking a way to immediately toggle to SILENT instead of VIBRATE using Rhodium Keyboard Controller - but to no avail. Help anyone?
Got a new Telus TP2 here, and I came across this thread looking for a way to BUMP UP the vibration. I've missed every call since I've got this phone because the vibrate is almost unnoticeable... compared to my titan which gave me a jolt when it vibrated.
Anyway, to be helpful, I am going to suggest you guys look into PhoneAlarm ( hxxp://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html ) , which I used on my titan... I think it has settings to make the vibrate longer or shorter (Custom LED color / vibrate pattern per alarm ). I would have checked it before I posted, but it may be a while before I get around to playing with it. Good luck all.
For me it's always been more of a good thing than a bad thing.... Especially when I'm at the mall or somewhere loud and I'm moving. A weak vibration just isn't cutting it. So yeah, you should probably just go to silent mode if it's too strong for your liking. Not too hard to figure out.
I'm aware of apps like NoLock which disable the Vibrants lock screens. I was thinking about it and is there really any reason to have a lock screen? Seems like it's just an added step and a potential waste of battery. Thoughts?
To make sure you don't mess **** up if you accidentally hit your power button in your pocket
Right, I was rocking them way back in the day when you could pocket dial your whole phonebook with hardware # buttons, but with the Vibrant I've never noticed messing with the hardware buttons just from it being in my pocket.
Well, actually there are a lot of benefits to having the lock screen.
- You could turn up your ringer in a situation where you need to have it on silent.
- Quickly control music without draining battery by going to the actual music app.
- Seeing what type of notifications you get without pulling out the entire UI.
There are added benefits to disabling the lock screen, but you will probably encounter enough problems to make it not worth it.
true, I hadn't considered the music aspect
How about the fact that it's a secuirty mechanism?
No need for it. It was one of the first things I disabled.
Here's why:
-Accidentally messing it in your pocket somehow? Even if you manage to hit the power button and make it come on, it won't do anything as the screen is activated through electricity of your fingers. That's how it works. Nothing in your pocket can make it do ANYTHING, even if its on. If you REACH in your pocket and its on, then yes, you can hit something.
-Music app. SUPER easy to switch music when you have no lock screen. Simply Hit power button and swipe away anywhere on teh screen to change a song. VERY VERY useful while driving and u can't afford to look at the screen.
-Easier to respond to texts. You don't need to unlock it to do stuff now. MUCH simplifies everything but notifications are especially convinient to deal with.
-ACTUALLY saves battery. Try it. No lock screen will net you NO loss in battery life and is likely to increase it as you won't go through a locking screen every time. You quickly develop a habit of turning it off by the power key when ur done with something and turning it back on when you need it. It's instant, quick, and saves on juice.
I don't know of a SINGLE reason to keep a lock screen except for aesthetics or if you want to prevent people using your phone (in which case its a passworded lockscreen). Those are the only 2 reasons really. . .
how about to check out the time, see missed calls or texts easily because sometime the notification bar is full of notifications, and it is a great way to check the time without people seeing what you have been using in your phone and also it turns off fast so you dont have to press the power button twice.
I wouldn't take it off only because I see more advantages than disadvantages.
Just my two cents.
Better not lose your phones. No lock makes it that much easier to grab your data, regardless if you report it and the phone becomes a brick. Think of all that stuff the person who found it would be able to do. Get a list of your contacts, find the last few places you visited, make calls, etc... An exposed phone would be an identity theives dream.
And just think... you could slow them down with a simple pattern lock. Ignorant not to use that layer.
The security feature is pretty meaningless to me. I'm not ultra scared of someone finding my phone and having my friends and my weed dealers phone numbers.

Okay. Would you mind posting a copy of your contacts in this thread? Most likely not, unless of course you have zero respect for your contacts information, in which case you should let your friends know how wreckless you are being with their data.
The point is, you may not lose this phone or your next or the one after that. It is a fact that unless you take ownership of your information, you put yourself at risk of making details you consider private, public.

Well, different strokes for different folks. I'm rarely ever more than 5 feet away from phone, so I don't worry too much about the security aspect. I do turn it on if I'm going out to a bar or club or something, but otherwise the lock screen just slows me down.

..... or just don't let your kids use your phone as a toy. The lock screen doesn't keep it from going in the toilet if the kid is very young.
The lock screen strikes me as feature-creep.
NoLock was the first non-rooting-related thing I installed.
I have what I suspect is an unusual problem: my Nexus 7 turns ON too easily.
I got it last year for use on a sailing boat, for communication and to get weather forecasts. It uses a lot more power than I'd like (compared with the Nokia N810 I replaced) and there's not much available for recharging. We occasionally have mains power, but mostly it's 12v solar-generated - and it's inefficient and takes ages to recharge via a converter.
So I keep it turned off for 23½ hours a day. My problem is that it easily turns itself on: in a locker with the boat crashing about under sail the button gets pressed and I find it's been on for hours and has lost most of its charge.
So - to the point - I want a mod to make it difficult to turn on. Having to press the button for a full 15 seconds, or a 'Did you really want to turn this on?" prompt which times out, or something like that: anything that will stop it turning itself on. Is it possible?
It's been rooted (I need to send SMSes so I installed a replacement messenger) but uses the standard version of Android.
Have you thought about getting a case or sleeve? It would protect your device from getting knocked around in the locker and prevent it from accidentally turning on.
Amen to the case, which could net you a stiffer button. Heck, even a DIY loop of cardboard around the power button would do the trick (although it would admittedly look ugly).

Of course I have - I made one to keep it in - not wholly effective. And I have a blue rubbery case that is effective but horrible. But this is a software forum - somebody here might know how to change the turn-on sequence.
I doubt what you are asking is possible. In fact I'm fairly sure it isn't.
If you don't want to spring for a better case, to protect it too if its getting whipped around like you say.....then there's a pretty simple answer. Put it somewhere secure? Where it can't move, or have anything hit it.
One day you'll go to grab it and the screen will be cracked.
No software will interrupt it from turning on. Most software isn't even active until the system is booted up. And devs will never make anything like a are you sure prompt, because why????
So again....better case or a secure storage location. Which it should have anyway....if it is constantly flopping around....I will break one day....guaranteed.

I doubt what you are asking is possible. In fact I'm fairly sure it isn't...

Well, it's a long shot I know. I accept that I'm unlikely to find anything to do what I want, but I don't accept that it's impossible. The length of button-press must be programmed somewhere so it can theoretically be changed. ISTR it also reacts to combinations of buttons - on and volume (I forget what) so that can be changed too.
When I listed the things I disliked about the Nexus this was top. The real problem is that the button is too prominent - bad design IMO - Nokia phones never had this problem. It's too easy to turn off too - but that's not serious.

Oh I agree, anything is possible! But without widespread demand, its unlikely anyone with the know how would ever work on it. And I can safely say your the first I've ever heard ask about this.

Oh and again....many say the N7 screen is fragile....if yours is bouncing around enough to turn itself on, there's a good chance it'll crack.

We all know it can be a bit of pain while on the Tube and you quickly want to unlock your phone and the Iris or face scanner don't work first time so you painfully need to look behind the phone to find the finger print scanner, but this is all about muscle memory.
I'm in the UK and just a few hours a go i got an update, i found myself having to register my Face again as it was not properly working. Also I'm either going crazy or completely missed it, i now find that under the Face unlock settings there is a "Faster recognition" setting that can be turned on. Not sure if this is new or it was there already. If in case you missed this i must say, make sure you turn this on, it changed the Face unlock feature completely for me, at least 90% of the time it works compared to 50/50 before the update. So make sure you look for updates if you just got your new S8 and turn the "Faster Recognition" setting on, as this might make a difference.
Another tip and this is my personal opinion, i found it better to actually register your face as close as possible. When registering your face, ignore the "20cm" it tells you to do, make sure you get close enough so that your face covers mostly the screen but not 100% of it, i found this to be better in normal day use (pulling your phone out of your pocket and looking down on it) instead of having to bring the phone up and close to your face. Another tip would be give your face a little wiggle, simply nod a tiny bit left and right while staring at the front camera, i found that this can help most of the times when the phone is taking more time than necessary to recognize your face.
If you have any other tips make sure to leave it below as this can help new users not having the best experience with this feature.
*I can tell some people do not have "Faster Recognition" option available. Just hold on , you should be getting an update soon.
it's possible to add mod to support multiple face recognition or iris
