Ok, I guess quite a few of us are now usig the MDA/XDA II and have made our experiences.
I think it is time to start collecting the different bugs and "features", so that maybe the guys here can start fixing them. Maybe even O2/T-Mobile or HTC might startt doing something.
I'll start with my contributions:
1) SMS: The SMS-Application doesn't copy the "+" from the phone number when you select through the contacts application. See also: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3198
2) Bluetooth: Right now, this seems to work mostly as a marketing gag, considering the very limited profiles supported. The list of missing profiles keeps getting longer, including HFREE, PAN and others. In fact, it might make sense to collect the experiences of successful bonds in a dedicated thread.
3) BT-Headset: Even when it does work, the performance is shaky s you can see here: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3548
4) Phone On/Off: Turning the phone on/off seems to have gotten less user friendly than on the old MDA. Now you always need to get out your stylus, which can be quite a hassle when you are standing at the gate getting on a plane - with your suitcase in the other hand. See also: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3553
5) Google: Ok, this seems to be a problem on almost all WM2003 devices when I look at all the suff on the web about this issue. Still, it would be nice if it would work
6) Wireless Modem: Well, you would expect that they include the driver on the CD wouldn't you.
7. The MDA II closes open programms as soon as you open another large programm. Like a device with no memory. You cannot keep large programms open at the same time (e.g. Pocket Informant, PIE, Total Commander, aso.) , so they would be accessible more quickly if you choose them over an taskmanager.
Have a look at this, it would tell you something about this "closingbug":

Xda USB Modem driver
The USB modem driver *is* on the disk. There are no drivers for Serial, Bluetooth on Infrared.
ANyway, the infrared requires a public domain add-on to work...
Hi
It seems that my XDA II turns on spurious ( not often, but sometimes), which is not nice when having it in my pocket.
Does anyone has the same experince ?
Not sure if this could be considered a bug, but I have yet to be able to receive a video MMS sent by either a P800 or a Nokia 7650. Have successfully sent one to a 7650 though. On the UK O2 network.
sorry could not post a link !
but here is a hummdinger !
try the following hit the "Wireless" icon and note how long it takes for the dialogue box to pop up then hit the "Turn the radio off" hotspot.. You will notice much longer delays before it performs the task, the same happens when you have switched it off and then attempt to "Switch the radio on". A further prob is with the Volume control....do the following...call your voicemail "long" press the green phone key, now when the speakerphone is on , reduce the volume with the side "Slider" when it is at minimum try to increase it...it don’t work you can only use the stylus on the screen, if you allow, after reducing the volume, the dialog to disappear then try to increase the volume with the slider it works again, then if with the dialogue displayed you then end the call the dialogue will appear to be stuck on screen, and only disappear after about 10 secs...

same here. happens all the time and that´s not funny. Called O2 Tech Support and they said (of course) that i´m the first to report that problem. can´t really believe that.
it´s very annoying

Have you turned on the homezone indicator? Everytime your mobile phone changes the cell, the homezone indicator updates itself, causing the XDA to turn on.
Christian
I also have the problem of not being able to recieve a video MMS from a 7650, I phoned o2 support on Tuesday and they said they would look into it and call me back on Wednesday, Well its now Saterday and i have not had a call back from them. Its good to see they sill use the same calender where next day means we dont have a answer so we wont bother to call you back

Buffer full / crash on transcriber/Notepad
8.) Buffer full / crash on transcriber/Notepad
Waring: Maybe you should do a backup before you try this....
How to cause:
- Go to Notpad
- Change to "Transcriber"-recognition
- Start to enter by writing normal letter/words: >> ok, works
- Try to "fill/paint the whole Screen" without (!) removing the pen from screen: After some seconds the Buffer will be full, constant Signal will apear if you touch the screen again
- Regognition won't work anymore
How to resolve the "full buffer" (seems to be the reason for me):
- Soft reset, okay
BUT:
- Xda2 behaves unstable afterwards.
You might get messages like this:
"camera.exe is not a valid apllication"
"media player is not a valid apllication"
So you need a "hard reset" with all the data gone.
(Maybe a sync is still possible - I didn't try this yet)
Okay, maybe not a Killer-Bug.
But now it's impossible to hand over the xda2 to my friends cause' they know how to "kill" my pda
Don't know is it's a xda2-specific bug or caused by OS.

3 bugs?: text colour, letter recogniser, transciber
Great PDA - I've had an XDA for a few days and have been using it extenisvely (having had an iPAQH3850 for 2 years). The power of having a combined PDA, phone & camera/video is great. However, I've got a couple of problems. Anyone else had them or know how to fix them? (soft reset doesn't help- I haven't tried a hard reset yet):
1) Funny coloured text: some of the letters on the screen are brown rather than black. In particular the following letter combinations: 'in' and 'll'
2) 'Ghost' characters in 'Letter recogniser' mode. I write quickly using 'Letter recogniser' mode. Sometimes a grey outline of the character I've drawn stays for a fraction longer than I'd expect so that I end up writing the next character over the previous character. More noticeable in the 'numbers/special charcters' section on the right of the letter recogniser window.
3) Change of font/script when correcting words in 'Transciber' mode. The transciber mode is not bad at recognising my handwriting scrawl. However, if a word is interpreted incorrectly and I highlight the word and then rewrite the word, the new interprtation appears lowerdown on the line than the rest of the text (like MS Word's 'subscript')

But it is still a bug and I hope they intend to fix it, as it is rather interessting to know if I have contact to my homezone or not.
Hi
Got an other one. The alarm function seems not to work reliable. First I thought I missed the alarm due to much drinks the evening before but this morning I woke up before, but no alarm from my XDA. Instead when I turn the XDA on manually, it notified me about the alarm.
I also noticed it with a meeting.
I don't need an alarm clock I have to turn on manually...
btw... Is there some action to fix the reported bugs... either O2 or M$
new annoying bug
OK I just had a new REALLY annoying bug happen last night.
First i found that GPRS kept dialing up every time i diconnected it - i thought it must have been because ie was open in the background so i went and closed all runing programs but it still kept dialling up GPRS whenever i disconnected.
Then I received an sms but when i viewed it in Inbox, the parts of the stripy background that are usually white where really dark grey making it almost impossible to read anything on the screen... so i decided it was time for a soft reset.
but instead of soft resetting it did a hard reset so I've now got to re-install everything!!!!! :x
Pope,
The GPRS dial up could be to do with your network settings. In fact an awful lot of issues where the PDA switches on for no reason are probably that.
I've always found 'interesting' problems with ActiveSync where it switches on the PDA periodically (it's nothing specific to the XDA II as it also happened with the Fujitsu Loox and the Viewsonic V37). I always 'close' activesync (using vBar) when I'm not using it for this reason!
I recently spent ages with the XDA II trying to get it not to switch on after I'd set up a blue tooth link with my laptop. Had to change some of the network settings to stop it (but can't remember what) ... even 'resetting' the PDA hadn't fixed the problem.
re
Pope, I too have had a Hard Reset occur without knowingly doing it.
As far as I am aware I did not press the power on off button, when I soft reset, and it just did a hard reset.
I was having problems with an app that froze though, and just figured it was that.
Anyone else expereienced this ?
Cheers, Shire
I installed the upgrade at www.clubimate.com
Some noticeable changes after the upgrade:-
Fast switchoff of the phone, though u still have to use the stylus
The missed call red blink of the LED stays red (at least for the few minutes I checked) instead of turning back to green after a minute as in the past
The + in SMS is added when chosing from the contacts menu. I think this was a problem in the past
I had difficulty in installing SanDisk Wi-Fi software in the previous version. Went smoothly on the upgraded one.
membership??
I tried to sign up but I don't have the EMI whatever # ... any chance you can e-mail me this fix software?

Just found this site...and have scanned many "Universal" postings over past couple hours and recognise many problems - but have now sent my QTEK 1640 back to Vodafone because they couldn't help me.
Question: is there now a new ROM version and a newer MSM 5.0 that could have addressed some of these, essentially performance related problems ? I loved the unit bit it just didn't perfom as either a PDA or Phone.
Thanks for any advice.
Cut down summary of probs:
1. Tapping on SMS to retrieve Text Message indicator (User Manual p20 item 13) can take around 20 seconds to retrieve the text message.
2. Can’t activate the device by tapping the screen when the screen has gone asleep. Have to press the Contacts button on the keyboard for example and then it takes about 3 seconds to come to life !
3. The first time you select Contacts from the Start menu the “#ab” tab is populated with all the contacts but if you want to look for names starting with “c”, or “f” for example it can take 15 seconds to open this tab.
4. As with 3 above - if you want to make a call and this time open the “Phone” application from the Start menu – using the Contacts menu to open contacts only provides a subset of contacts. Using the scroll bar to look for a contact simply leaves the screen blank.
5 .The device “hangs” when left switched on and plugged into the mains charger all night.
6. Caller will hear the ring tone between 3 -7 times before the device actually starts ringing
7. Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs and “Stop All” Running Programs as they don’t actually stop when closed and the device will get slower and slower.
8. Can’t seem to completely shut the device off without taking the battery out. Pressing the “Power/Backlight” button leaves the right hand side Green indicator flashing
9. Microsoft Activesync 4.1.0 doesn’t support “Categories” under Contacts. A known limitation of Activesync but a performance problem for this device!!
10. Can’t hear the ring – even with max volume
11. Only seems to be able to find wireless network at home – even when I’m in a known Wireless Hotspot.
12. Device hangs when interpreting complex passwords
13. Can’t “Dismiss” reminders with either the pointer or keyboard.
14. Can't "pickup" call from button control on ear piece (say when in car driving)
Lol, you sure have tested your device for almost everything.
Well, I have the Orange version (SPV-M5000), used it for sometime, and the only 2 problems i can relate to is:
6. Caller will hear the ring tone between 3 -7 times before the device actually starts ringing
7. Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs and “Stop All” Running Programs as they don’t actually stop when closed and the device will get slower and slower.
The last (7) problem if thats what you call, is with all devices from IPAQ, to anyother device running WM5. Its nothing to do with the ROM or the phone, its the way WM5 is designed.
I think most of your other faults are from the ROM it came with as Ive never come across them.
One thing that pisses me off, is the fact (6) it rings 3 times before i hear the ring tone.
The ring tone is v. loud on mine, unless u stuff inbetween ur thighs and put a pillow on top. lol
But 1 thing to remember, as with all smartphones, they're as good as their software. You cant expect perfection; if u need something very stable, i think you should stick to simple phones that do not incorporate PDA feautures. Most PDA phones or smart phones have one problem or the other. Even my 6230i which isn't even a smart phone has its problems. The first case of software problems in phones i think arose with the 8210.
Its like choosing a BIMBO Macintosh, or a masculine PC.
A ferrari or bus.
But back to the topic, yes i had alot of problems with the preloaded orange rom which dated back months. Thank God, i found this forum, did a ROM update the same day i got the phone, and then realised its what i really wanted.
So I would say 80% of your problems were ROM related, and if not, they could be fixed.
For problem number 7, there is a software for all WM5 (windows mobile 5) os's, dats called MagicButton that actualy closes the program instead of docking it.
Good luck on you decision.
Hello, I got my new device on the 3rd Jan so it's still relatively new and vanilla. I have had a look here through FAQs and searched the X1 forum to no avail. I hope these are not too difficult to answer, many thanks for any advice
1. Freezing:
When I make a call the touch screen no longer takes touch inputs, it does display the call time etc. I have to end the call with the soft button then the screen comes back to life
Also, when I run Windows Media Player and start playing a track the same behaviour occurs and I timed a 2 minute delay before I could use the screen to do anything.
I am not running anything in the background when this happens
All I have installed on top of the new phone (<1 week old) is a torchbutton tool and a battery monitor (although his happened way before the battery monitor was installed)
2. Auto disconnect from 3G etc:
When I set my phone to auto check email for me I didn't realise it would leave the 3G connection running. I can't find anywhere to set this and have it shut down the connection when done. I am not worried about cost (much) but I do want to preserve battery lif.
3. GPS way off:
everytime I try the Vodafone tracker or google maps it never pinpoints my location accurately. I don't want this directing me into a river or car crushers at a scrap yard...
Any ideas?
I don't know about the other two questions but as for number 1) I'd say it's a fault with your device as i haven't heard of the problem before and i have no such issue with my Xperia. Maybe someone can help you...
Question 2
It seems by default you have to disconnect in Comm Manager.
Actually it's great it does not disconnect after every action, it would be hell to check 3 or 4 email accounts and connect each time (I had it on my other smartphone...)
OK I can live with the disconnecting thing, I'll just have to keep an eye on it and the battery usage.
I found something interesting with the media player freezing issue though, if I use the button on the side to adjust volume the screen become available in the volume slider and then the problem goes away, rather random but again - livable if this fix works every time (which it doesn't) I have noticed it seems to be the same tracks that cause this - is it the file size?
Still stumped for the screen freeze during calls though - fix that and I will sing your praises for at least a week and a half
OK The device got replaced... then broke again - ran out of power then wouldn't take a charge
Came back from repair (they wouldn't replace after the 14 days grrr damn vodafone)
Now it has new software on it (spb mobile shell and some random games)
I setup the stuff I like such as the Soft Buttons set to Rotate screen and bring up the Today screen
Now when on the X panel or any of the panels and Opera the Today button refuses to work
It is fine in IE or File Explorer
I am so sick of this damn thing getting so close to being useable and then dropping out on me
Any ideas before I have to go back to the shop and they send it away AGAIN?
I want to enable a password on my device (I already have the sim pin lock turned on) so if my THD is stolen someone cant remove the old sim and still gain access to my data, (8gb is a LOT of personal data).
When i go into the settings/lock and set it to 'ask a password' when the device goes on it seems to disable the ability to use the keylock function. It asks for a password at boot, but once its on if you try to do the long press of the end key, nothing happens (no matter how long you hold the END key for). It seems to be either.. Password protect at Startup OR the abitity to lock the keys while the phone is on. Has anyone found a work around, cos id love to be able to password protect it AND have the ability to use a keylock function because its a big touch screen and i dont really want my phone to start calling at random when its in my pocket.
Someone suggested using S2U2 as a keylock, is this gonna affect any Touch HD functions (iv heard it causes battery issues) cos i dont really wanna open a can of worms by installing software if its gonna cause problems, and can i use it with TF3D, Thanks.
using happily with touchflo3d myself. didnt notice any battery issues. but I set it to autolock when it comes out of standby so i don't really "use" it much. I guess you just try it by yourself and find if it suits your needs?
you can always uninstall
"Smart Protect" would be perfect for you - I'm too tired to write down what it can do (its 4:00 AM) but it's the only software you need to feel safe. When your PDA gets stolen it even sends an SMS with GPS coordinates as well as the number of the inserted SIM card to as many numbers as you like (so you can give them to the Police and smile 'cause they will have everything they need to find the thief). It has tons of options and every single one can be set as you like. Just remember - once installed it cannot be uninstalled (ever) - manufacture restore is the only solution.

Every time I install G-Alarm on my phone, TouchFlo seems to get disabled.
It is still enabled in the settings menu, but the home screen is just a HTC wallpaper, and when I press the windows key the start menu is opened.
I have tried rebooting multiple times, but nothing seems to help...
Only removing the application has worked so far for me
Any ideas?
EDIT: I'm having the same problem with G-Profile!
It seems that the programs just disables the TF service from launching/running...
Haven't experienced that problem myself, using G-Alarm v1.5.1 here.
Hmm.. Strange.
I have heard more people say the are using some of the "G-programs" on the Touch Pro 2. So it must be something in the ROM I guess.
I am using an unbranded Dutch version. But I have no clue on how to fix this...
Ok. I have figured out that if I remove the PIN entry screen from the start up sequence (so no PIN has to be entered anymore) G-Profiles works. I haven't tried the others yet, but I'm sure they'll work as well.
The thing is... I would like my phone to have a bit of protection by the PIN code
I don't use G-alarm on my Dutch TP2. But I have this issue with not starting TouchFlo3D also. On HTC advise I resetted the device. Then it worked for abou 4 hours and after that it wouldn't start anymore. The screen staus black with the fancy HTC in the sceen... but no "starting touchflo".
Als for that reason I instaled SPB mobile shell latest... but this will not update new SMS or Mails in the main screen... more people on SPBCLUB have this issue... I think it has something to do with the TP2 and not with SPB... more people with same problems?
Ahh...so that's what causing it.. I have a G-Alarm too but didn't realize it's affecting the interface not loading up
Several soft reset and it'll load up. Kinda annoying until the developer fixes it (and we have to pay for the new version )
I don't think this problem is just with G-applications, I am having the same problem withouth any g-apps installed. After a few reboots it usually works again, but I think this is a more genereal TP2 issue.

I've asked on his forum, and he said it probably was a TouchFLO bug...
Thread here: http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=721&start=0
(I'm BiT on there...)
I've had the exact same issue but found out that with me it wasn't linked to G-Alarm but to the 'Background4AllTabs' plugin,
I've hard reset tons of times, tried several alternate installs, but once I start changing TF3D options like th background or clocks, it slows down tremendously in screen rotation and it often won't start after reboot...
hmm i dont know if you still have these problems but a few days ago i figured out a solution^^
The problem is the entry. I've got an htc touch pro 2.
Soo to get TF3D starting try fallowing thing:
-Go to "Settings-->Connections" and turn ON the flightmode (this will disconnect all)
-Then restart your phone... wait a few seconds and TADAAA TF3D SHOULD start.
-Go to "Settings-->Connections" turn OFF the flightmode
-Enter your PIN
-Now your phone should connect to your provider.
So if this work you have to do this every time you restart your phone... so turn on flightmode --> restart--> turn off flightmode
I hope this way is not only working on my phone
btw sorry about my english xD
GreeZ $me
Flightmode works for me
Indeed it works now. But I have another interesting thing.
I was used of waiting nicely looking at the PIN input screen. Wait, lets say,. 20 seconds; cancel the pin input and see the Touchflow coming up in 100% of the cases. So I could live with the problem.
Now I installed Navigon who puts a file in the autorun folder. And now Touchflow never starts up any more with the exception of the Flightmode trick.
Is navigon guilty?
i never used G-Alarm but i have the same problem.
so i've tried checking on/off Today/Item/TF3D, tried Flight Mode, and it still won't work. i'm talking like only 30-50% of the time it does work. and I never had PIN1 enabled!
i'm no programmer but it is conflicting with apps we install because TF3D works perfectly when the phone was fresh or hard-resetted. btw i'm using 6.1 Stock T-mobile
