Hi all,
I am having the following problem with my HD2:
I use it to sync with my Exchange 2007 server (push mail, syncing when receiving new mail). The device enables an auto-screen lock then. Therefore it locks after max 5 minutes and I have to slide to unlock each time.
This is very unhandy especially when using TomTom. When navigating with TomTom (or CoPilot) it goes into screen lock every 5 minutes too and you cannot see the map anymore. The strange thing is that Sygic MobileMaps doesn't seem to have problems with it. When using Sygic screen lock doesn't appear.
I tried disabling it with the use of the tip (/.cab) in the tips/tweaks sticky but that didn't help. Seems to be a different sort of lock although it is the same way of locking/unlocking
Does anybody have the same problem when syncing with Exchange 2007? I didn't have this problem with Exchange 2003.
I would like to disable the lock totally. Any other workaround would be great too of course...
Thanks in advance!
Found it!
Hi,
Found it!
In the registry:
HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023: 0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
Yeah, that sucks...
Hello Nooky!
Well, that work-around does help you just until MS-Exchange enforces the security policy again. Have the same problem though, so far no luck.
There is some really smart Dude who created a Exchange Policy Patch to avoid that phenomenon, but also that does not survive the next enforced security policy before syncing the MS-Exchange account. But if you want give it a shot:
http://khason.net/blog/how-to-disable-exchange-security-policy-for-windows-mobile-devices/
Greetings, Studebaker
Mmm, thx for the tip...
Can I change something on my Exchange Server to disable it?
I have the same problem, had it on my Touch Cruise as well. Sadly I'm not in control of our corporate Exchange server, so I'm desperately looking for a solution.
Strangely iGo and Route66 did not have this problem, so I'm pretty sure the problem can be solved in software or register.
But dows anybody know how to change this in Exchange then? I do have access to the mailserver (Exchange 2007).
I think there is a possibility for the programmer to simulate a keystroke in a application to prevent the screenlock from activating. Maybe that is done in Route66 but not in TomTom?
stay unlock tool
Try finding 'stay unlock' with google. This tool for windows mobile disables the security policy.
I had it running in Samsung Omnia I900 and worked perfect.
Now I have the HTC HD2 and it does not work because of windows mobile 6.5
It is not yet supported.

In the EMC (Exchange Management Console), go to "Organization Configuration" and then "Client Access" and check the "Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies" for the incriminating setting.

I'm not sure if this is the right topic, or if this belongs in the 'Upgrades' topic, but here it is nonetheless...
First, thanks to all participants of this forum; I have found a wealth of useful info here!!
I recently upgraded my XDA to a "4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US" ROM cooked at Yorch's kitchen, and everything seems to work great, however, I cannot take advantage of Exchange 2003's "up-to-date" SMS notifications to trigger ActiveSync.
From the research I've done into enabling this functionality, it seems that the ActiveSync app on my XDA does not include the necessary options; specifically, the 'Mobile Schedule' config drop downs are missing the "after new items are received" (or something like that) options. Also, there is supposed to be a "Device Address" text box on the Server tab which allows you to input your SMS address.
Has anyone had any experience with resolving this issue?
Many thanks,
Daniel
Re: Up-to-date ActiveSync notifications w/WM2003 & Excha
Hey Daniel,
I have it working over here. You have to get your PPC syncing with the server first. Once you sync then you should get prompted for syncing only when there are new messages. If you get this and choose yes then it will ask for the mobile address. If everything's upgraded correctly and you have synced one time then you should be able to go into activcesync and also choose this option. The only other thing is make sure in AD that you have your account specified to allow Notifications.

Thanks for the reply, Andy. I can successfully sync manually (or using the 'every 5 min.', etc. scheduled sync), and my account has both user-initiated synchronization and up-to-date notifications enabled, but I never receive a prompt to sync only when there are new messages, nor do those options appear in ActiveSync.
I did not update my Radio Stack...still 6.18; could this functionality be tied to the newer Radio Stack?
If you or anyone else has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!
Regards,
Daniel
In Active Directory, does the user's account have up-to-date notifications enabled? You will need the newer radio stack for it to work 100% correctly as you are supposed to have the always on gprs in order for it to function correctly.

Yes, the user's account does have up-to-date notification enabled in AD. I think I understand what you are saying regarding the radio stack, but I believe this would hinder the device's attempt to syncronize after receiving the SMS notification, which it doesn't appear is happening since I can't even set the option to sync when new items arrive...does that sound right?
Regarding the Radio Stack Upgrade, it sounds like it can be far more dangerous than the ROM upgrade, plus there seems to be some uncertainty as to whether or not the official T-Mobile upgrade will work once the Radio Stack has been "unofficially" upgraded...is this correct?
Thanks again for your assistance!!

Yeah there is some uncertainty but I'm sure when it comes out that there will be someone to figure out how to to it. No it won't hinder it. What is puzzling me is that you don't even have the option to set it to update email upon new emails. You should have an option in there for it once you sync with the Exchange 2003 box. Have you sync'ed wirelessly or are you doing all this via a sync cable?

That's what is puzzling me, too...
I can sync with the server both wirelessly and via the sync cable.
I've also gone over the Exchange Deployment guides to make sure everything is set up properly on my Exchange server & my ISA (firewall) server, and everything appears to be correct.
Thanks again,
Daniel
Are you connecting directly to the exchange server or are you going through a front-end exchange server? And you still don't have on the schedule tab a when new messages arrive? What version of activesync are you using when syncing via cable? Is it 3.7 or greater?

I am connecting directly to the Exchange server (with IIS installed), and I still don't have the "when new items arrive" option on the schedule tab, nor the "Device Address" text box.
I am using ActiveSync 3.7.1...I just downloaded it again from MS yesterday, just in case, and re-installed it, but it made no difference.
Thanks,

Any errors in the event log on the exchange server? I would go into system manager and change the logging level on the msexchangeactivesync stuff to log maximum. Then sync again and see what it logs.

Unfortunately, I've already tried that. The only messages being logged on the server are:
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync has been loaded: Process ID: [1720].
OMA Categorizer succesfully initialized.
And those are after a re-boot. Nothing logs when I synchronize successfully after initiating the sync from my XDA.
Thanks for your help; I really do appreciate it...any more ideas are welcome!!

I also had this issue and could not get it to work. Microsoft support told me that auto notification of emails required a smartphone and just having Exchange 2003 and Mobile 2003 would not do it.
Well I have Mobile 2003 and Exchange 2003 and it will work. I'm checking to see if I can find anymore options that would keep you from getting the phone to do like it's supposed to with exchange 2003.

Are you having the same exact problem? That your's isn't allowing you to receive notifications?
Andy
That is correct. I had Microsoft walk through my setup and verify all settings and I couldn't get notifications. After working on the problem for over two weeks with three developers from Microsoft they determined that the current code only supported the smartphones. I currently have all XDA's setup to auto synchronize with the server every 15 minutes since I don't have auto notification working.
I have the option "When new items arrive" as well. I'm using the 4.0.1 ROM with the lastest TMobile RS 6.24.01. I also just updated a friend brand new XDA to the 4.0.1 ROM but left his RS @ 6.18. When setting up his schedule I noticed that the "When new items arrive" option was not there, so I sync'ed and the options were there. Maybe the difference is in the different ROM versions?
I've got a rather unusual update on this issue. While attempting to get the up-to-date notification working with my XDA & my Exchange server, I was also getting set up with an Exchange hosting service (because I am tired of administering my own server).
I'm still waiting for them to enable my mobile access, but meanwhile I started to attempt to connect from my XDA anyway. While I haven't been able to successfully connect to the new server, this attempt did make the missing options appear in ActiveSync on my XDA. Tonight, I switched back to my own server, and now (with no server changes, mind you), the options are still there & my up-to-date notifications are working!!
The only thing that I can think of that might have caused this issue is my ISA Server. When I synched with the Exchange server for the 1st time, a required registry entry on the ISA Server to enable up-to-date notifications had not been created. After researching the issue, I added the entry and bounced both the ISA Server & the Exchange Server. Of course, the missing options still did not appear in ActiveSync, so my guess is that maybe something was cached from my initial synchronization that didn't reset until I attempted to connect to a different server.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and input; it is greatly appreciated.
Now if someone can tell me where to get that 4.0.1 ROM, I'll be set...
Regards,
Daniel
I had the same issue
Hi,
unfortunately I didn't notice this thread before, I had the same problem.
After several hours of research I got the problem solved by totally deactivating Exchange Server synchronization, deleting all the sync folders in the Exchange store (via WebDAV), deleting the old and creating a new partnership with ActiveSync and activating server snyc then again.
Don't know which of these actions corrected the problem but there seems to be a bug in Exchange that it doesn't update the Up-To-Date-Notification settings correctly (without newly setting up the synchronization).
Best,
jeff

I'm having a problem with messages not being sent to my phone, the reason, I think, is I did a hard reset on my device and the partnership between my phone and my Exchange server is screwed up. Can you describe to me the exact process you used?
I posted this in another forum, but thought I'd give it a try here.
I'm using Verizon's Wireless Sync for my work email and contacts. The bad part is, by using that it's enabled the Lock feature after a timeout/standby/power cycle. I know the registry keys that disable the PIN requirement, but whenever I sync, it resets them.
I tried the Zenyee StayUnlock program, but it's not working for me. Nothing I can find has been able to keep those entries from being reset
Any ideas?
Bump for some help
Oh, and the registry settings reset when I soft reset also...
I have the same problem except when I change the reg keys it disables the lock until the next day. I don't think there is a way around it. I have done some searching but not a lot and it doesn't seem like there is any other way.

I can get it to stay..... as long as I don't sync or reset (soft or power cycle).
I had found some people were able to use the StayUnlock program to help keep those entries from reverting back, but I couldn't get it to function.
It is QUITE annoying...
Hi used this StayUnlock program and it worked really well for me never have to enter a password to unlock.
Also, you don't have to use Wireless Sync if your server is Exchange, then you can configure ActiveSync to sync over the air, and this StayUnlock works really well. it just gives me a reminder when my server push the security policy, but it reverse it.
Unzip this, create a shortcut to it and dump it into the \Windows\Startup folder.
Hope this helps.

Use ActiveSync OTA? Never heard of this...
I tried the StayUnlock. It didn't work for me. The reg settings would reset as soon as I ran Wireless Sync or reset the phone.
I installed the program, made a link to it from the Startup folder, but still no go. Do you change the settings BEFORE installing, or AFTER.
Ok, I got it to sync to the webmail server for my Outlook. But it's not a push service.
That's what I like about Wireless Sync. It's a push.
Hi all,
About a month ago I enabled pushmail (company Exchange server) on my Touch HD and ever since I'm getting the message: "recent changes to your device require a restart".
It pops up every once in a while and ask me to restart my device.
When I restart nothing changes and the popup keeps on coming. If I select to restart later (which I do now) the popup dissappears and my HD functions normally.
I searched the web and the only thing I could find was a discussion on an Exchange Server setting, which I already verified with our Exchange Admin.
Anybody outthere with the same problem or perhaps even better, anybody with a solution?
Thanks,
Lars

Deedee,
Thanks for the rely, but as far as I understood from our Admin no policies are pushed.
Infact I'm currently the only one complaining about this. But that could be because I'm the only one not using the standard issue company PDA.

We have the same problem here too. It seems that anytime a policy is in place, exchange attempts to push it every 4 hours (for us). Then if the system is not rebooted, then it keeps prompting about every 10 mins to reboot.
If your exchange admin will, he can turn off the refresh setting (not recommended) and it will not keep trying to update the device. If he adds new policies, then turn it back on.
This only seems to affect WM6.1 devices, (regardless of the carrier), and exchange 2007 SP1.

Hi, i have exactly same broblem too, maybe somebody help?
Same problem here with the HTC HD2 (windows mobile 6.5).
Synchronization is set to manual. Each time I do a synchonize, all mail is received correctly, but immediately followed by the message that because of "recent changes" the device requires a restart. Really annoying.
Don't know a solution yet...will also check Exchange server settings.
HTC HD2 constant reset
Yes same thing is happening here but the information provided here has given me something to approach our IT department on a possible solution.
Will get back with any valuable information I receive.
Did you get a response from the IT department? I am very curious as well, since I am currently updating a small software agent on the device, and this has triggered the ssame behaviour.
Guys,
I have two exchange servers accounts and I do need to sync both accounts (emails, calendar, notes etc), however I just can't do it.
Through the ActiveSync I just can't create a new server.
Then I tryed to simply create a new account using the "mail setup", but the message I receive is "account already exists. Only one Exchange account can be configured".
Well, since I do not trust that much on Microsoft I Googled this subject and found the below (I also found references to this "solution" here at XDA):
"... to sync two exchange servers, put this in the device's registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination]= (DWORD) 1
This key will most probably be there already, but if it is, its value will be 0. If so, change it to 1.
Soft reset, then, setup activesync ON THE DEVICE (If you try setting up on the PC, it will still fail).
I'm now syncing an Exchange connected PC with with another Exchange Server directly - work like a CHARM.
(thanks to Chris de Herrera for the registry key hint)".
I did the registry's modification but nothing changed. I'm still not being able to sync with to different exchange servers account.
Have you guys faced this issue? Any idea on how to solve it?
Regards!
Hi!
I tried and faced the same result as you. Unfortunately I have no idea how to solve this, but I would desperately need the function too!
Cheers
Guys,
Any idea?
This issue has been discussed a long time over the web and there is no secure answer.
The "solution" I have found, at least for me, do not work. I have tryed and nothing.
Am I doing something wrong with respect to the mentioned "solution" or it really doesn't work? Is there any other way to make the simultaneously syncing feasible?
Regards!
No ideas on how to make two exchange servers acounts working on the HD?
No one? No shortcut? No detour?
I am quite sure this is not possible as the same with a windows PC!
Its possible
I synced with two exchange servers for a while. Buts its only possible if you use activesync by usb for your second exchange.
And how have you did it, mate?

well, there is a leak news state that wm7 can sync with 2+ exchange servers
also extensive customized folders.
this is great new feature.
in wm6.1, impossible.
Thanks John! Finally a peremptory answer
I was just wondering if it was possible with wm 6.1, especially after the information I have obtained (as per my first post here).
So, let's wait for wm 7.

Hey guys,
I've searched the web and this forum but wasn't able to find an answer to my question.
I own a jade since 10 month and since 2 weeks I have a data flaterate due to my job. Since then I'm using push mail to sync my phone with our Exchange Server (push elemets if they arrive).
However, it's not working well and I'm not sure if it's a wm6.1 or jade problem.
- Sometimes my phone does not receive Emails, even if push mail is actived. I think sometimes it tells me that it is connected to the server and does not deliver emails anyway.
- The connection to the server inactive for a very long time, i. e., sometimes for hours! I only receive new mails after a reboot. This really sucks 'cause I need some mails quite quick and I don't want to sync manually all the time.
- My phone crashs, i. e., I see the green light flashing but the display is staying black or it is frozen.
- When turning on WiFi additionally, it's even worse. My jade turned off for 3x times last week at one day.
Has anyone the same problems? Is there anything I can do about it? Updates for wm 6.1, does wm 6.5 solve the problem? Or is it the jade hw?
Btw, at my company blackberry is not supported, so I need a solution working with exchange. so this is not an option. ...there doesn't seem to be many people outside using the jade like I do.

This is a problem because most people use blackberry in your situation.
I also have no experiences with push-mail and so I can not help you, sorry.
One solution might be to use a web-based email client that allows your email to be viewed via the web. Some corporate and government servers allow users to get their email that way. Basically, you would login to the appropriate server and see your email just like you would at Yahoo, Google or Hotmail. It becomes a question of whether your IT department wants to support a web service like this.
BTW, I know that with Yahoo Mail, it can be "forced" to a push/pull type service. You have to google how it's done and set up some things on your computer and Yahoo.
Another possibility may be to forward your business mails automatically to such an web-based service.
I was thinking about forwarding email as well. But I like to receive mails automatically and to get a notification.
But I'm still ****ed up about the push-mail solution. Can't believe that it is not working properly. I mean I can live with it, but is sucks...
Thanks for your answers anyway!
I thinks it's very much dependant on the Exchange Server (at source) and connection band status as opposed to Jade's capability. My experience is the same. I do not rely much on direct push, but more on ActiveSync by scheduling (Menu - Schedule) more frequent, e.g. every 20 - 30 minutes or so.
it is working on mine....
Hi!
My Jade running on 6.1 is synching fine with the companies exchange. No problems at all.
When the synchronissation is not working, is the internet connection ok? (can you open any webpage?)
Regards and good luck,
Stefan
I have no idea about the Exchange configuration, have to ask our IT guys about it. I'm usting using the outlook-web-access adress to connect with my jade.
I just don't understand why the connection is sometimes interrupted for hours and sometimes only for a few minutes.
Has anyone experince with wm6.5? Is it better for push-mail?

I have no problem synchronizing my emails and contacts either way, phone to server or server to phone. Logically if you can receive outlook email, synchronizing should not be a problem.
I can confirm that the Jade 3G (WM6.1 & 6.5) works a treat with exchange 2003. Besides, configuring the Jade for exchange push/pull is absolutely no different from any other phone running 6.1 & above.
From what you've said, it sounds more like you phone has a fault on it. I can't remember the last time my phone crashed and it's running a cooked 6.5 rom.
i've been wanting to get that to work with my UniSA (University of South Australia) email. But doesn't seem to work, if anyone can help me would be a great help.

You need to be sure of the UniSA server name (usually webmail.xxx.com.au). And you need to get the certificate (filename.cer) in order synchronise.

Similar Prob
Hi
I have a similar issue but not with Outlook\Exchange. I have setup with gmail for IMAP and pull every 5 minutes using 3g operator connection. My problem is, which I guess is where issue is similar, when my phone in sleep mode I can wait anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours for the pull process to kick in and download mail (notification alert tells me). Now, if I turn phone on within that time, bingo, sync's and pulls. So seems the process isnt working as should when in sleep mode.
Any idea's or is this the norm? Again, I been thinking about flashing to 6.5 cooked ROM just to test. I know my mate has a Palm with Windows 6.1 and he has no trouble so seems Jade build issue.
Opinions welcome!
I have exchange working well syncing contacts, mail, notes etc and it pushes as soon as I get a maiil (infact faster than my pc when i am infront of my desk) and use the JADE for my company emails. I had the stock rom and now 6.5 and both work without an issue. It sounds to me like you have some software issue or conflict in your device that is causing it to crash. I would hard reset and perhaps install a stock rom to make sure its clean. Have you got your server address as owa.something.com. If you set up exchange its not an IMAP or POP service so you should not see that option.
