Syncing With Two Exchange Servers - Touch HD General

Guys,
I have two exchange servers accounts and I do need to sync both accounts (emails, calendar, notes etc), however I just can't do it.
Through the ActiveSync I just can't create a new server.
Then I tryed to simply create a new account using the "mail setup", but the message I receive is "account already exists. Only one Exchange account can be configured".
Well, since I do not trust that much on Microsoft I Googled this subject and found the below (I also found references to this "solution" here at XDA):
"... to sync two exchange servers, put this in the device's registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination]= (DWORD) 1
This key will most probably be there already, but if it is, its value will be 0. If so, change it to 1.
Soft reset, then, setup activesync ON THE DEVICE (If you try setting up on the PC, it will still fail).
I'm now syncing an Exchange connected PC with with another Exchange Server directly - work like a CHARM.
(thanks to Chris de Herrera for the registry key hint)".
I did the registry's modification but nothing changed. I'm still not being able to sync with to different exchange servers account.
Have you guys faced this issue? Any idea on how to solve it?
Regards!

Hi!
I tried and faced the same result as you. Unfortunately I have no idea how to solve this, but I would desperately need the function too!
Cheers

Guys,
Any idea?
This issue has been discussed a long time over the web and there is no secure answer.
The "solution" I have found, at least for me, do not work. I have tryed and nothing.
Am I doing something wrong with respect to the mentioned "solution" or it really doesn't work? Is there any other way to make the simultaneously syncing feasible?
Regards!

No ideas on how to make two exchange servers acounts working on the HD?

No one? No shortcut? No detour?

I am quite sure this is not possible as the same with a windows PC!

Its possible
I synced with two exchange servers for a while. Buts its only possible if you use activesync by usb for your second exchange.

And how have you did it, mate?

well, there is a leak news state that wm7 can sync with 2+ exchange servers
also extensive customized folders.
this is great new feature.
in wm6.1, impossible.

Thanks John! Finally a peremptory answer
I was just wondering if it was possible with wm 6.1, especially after the information I have obtained (as per my first post here).
So, let's wait for wm 7.

Up-to-date ActiveSync notifications w/WM2003 & Exchange

I'm not sure if this is the right topic, or if this belongs in the 'Upgrades' topic, but here it is nonetheless...
First, thanks to all participants of this forum; I have found a wealth of useful info here!!
I recently upgraded my XDA to a "4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US" ROM cooked at Yorch's kitchen, and everything seems to work great, however, I cannot take advantage of Exchange 2003's "up-to-date" SMS notifications to trigger ActiveSync.
From the research I've done into enabling this functionality, it seems that the ActiveSync app on my XDA does not include the necessary options; specifically, the 'Mobile Schedule' config drop downs are missing the "after new items are received" (or something like that) options. Also, there is supposed to be a "Device Address" text box on the Server tab which allows you to input your SMS address.
Has anyone had any experience with resolving this issue?
Many thanks,
Daniel
Re: Up-to-date ActiveSync notifications w/WM2003 & Excha
Hey Daniel,
I have it working over here. You have to get your PPC syncing with the server first. Once you sync then you should get prompted for syncing only when there are new messages. If you get this and choose yes then it will ask for the mobile address. If everything's upgraded correctly and you have synced one time then you should be able to go into activcesync and also choose this option. The only other thing is make sure in AD that you have your account specified to allow Notifications.

Thanks for the reply, Andy. I can successfully sync manually (or using the 'every 5 min.', etc. scheduled sync), and my account has both user-initiated synchronization and up-to-date notifications enabled, but I never receive a prompt to sync only when there are new messages, nor do those options appear in ActiveSync.
I did not update my Radio Stack...still 6.18; could this functionality be tied to the newer Radio Stack?
If you or anyone else has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!
Regards,
Daniel
In Active Directory, does the user's account have up-to-date notifications enabled? You will need the newer radio stack for it to work 100% correctly as you are supposed to have the always on gprs in order for it to function correctly.

Yes, the user's account does have up-to-date notification enabled in AD. I think I understand what you are saying regarding the radio stack, but I believe this would hinder the device's attempt to syncronize after receiving the SMS notification, which it doesn't appear is happening since I can't even set the option to sync when new items arrive...does that sound right?
Regarding the Radio Stack Upgrade, it sounds like it can be far more dangerous than the ROM upgrade, plus there seems to be some uncertainty as to whether or not the official T-Mobile upgrade will work once the Radio Stack has been "unofficially" upgraded...is this correct?
Thanks again for your assistance!!

Yeah there is some uncertainty but I'm sure when it comes out that there will be someone to figure out how to to it. No it won't hinder it. What is puzzling me is that you don't even have the option to set it to update email upon new emails. You should have an option in there for it once you sync with the Exchange 2003 box. Have you sync'ed wirelessly or are you doing all this via a sync cable?

That's what is puzzling me, too...
I can sync with the server both wirelessly and via the sync cable.
I've also gone over the Exchange Deployment guides to make sure everything is set up properly on my Exchange server & my ISA (firewall) server, and everything appears to be correct.
Thanks again,
Daniel
Are you connecting directly to the exchange server or are you going through a front-end exchange server? And you still don't have on the schedule tab a when new messages arrive? What version of activesync are you using when syncing via cable? Is it 3.7 or greater?

I am connecting directly to the Exchange server (with IIS installed), and I still don't have the "when new items arrive" option on the schedule tab, nor the "Device Address" text box.
I am using ActiveSync 3.7.1...I just downloaded it again from MS yesterday, just in case, and re-installed it, but it made no difference.
Thanks,

Any errors in the event log on the exchange server? I would go into system manager and change the logging level on the msexchangeactivesync stuff to log maximum. Then sync again and see what it logs.

Unfortunately, I've already tried that. The only messages being logged on the server are:
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync has been loaded: Process ID: [1720].
OMA Categorizer succesfully initialized.
And those are after a re-boot. Nothing logs when I synchronize successfully after initiating the sync from my XDA.
Thanks for your help; I really do appreciate it...any more ideas are welcome!!

I also had this issue and could not get it to work. Microsoft support told me that auto notification of emails required a smartphone and just having Exchange 2003 and Mobile 2003 would not do it.
Well I have Mobile 2003 and Exchange 2003 and it will work. I'm checking to see if I can find anymore options that would keep you from getting the phone to do like it's supposed to with exchange 2003.

Are you having the same exact problem? That your's isn't allowing you to receive notifications?
Andy
That is correct. I had Microsoft walk through my setup and verify all settings and I couldn't get notifications. After working on the problem for over two weeks with three developers from Microsoft they determined that the current code only supported the smartphones. I currently have all XDA's setup to auto synchronize with the server every 15 minutes since I don't have auto notification working.
I have the option "When new items arrive" as well. I'm using the 4.0.1 ROM with the lastest TMobile RS 6.24.01. I also just updated a friend brand new XDA to the 4.0.1 ROM but left his RS @ 6.18. When setting up his schedule I noticed that the "When new items arrive" option was not there, so I sync'ed and the options were there. Maybe the difference is in the different ROM versions?
I've got a rather unusual update on this issue. While attempting to get the up-to-date notification working with my XDA & my Exchange server, I was also getting set up with an Exchange hosting service (because I am tired of administering my own server).
I'm still waiting for them to enable my mobile access, but meanwhile I started to attempt to connect from my XDA anyway. While I haven't been able to successfully connect to the new server, this attempt did make the missing options appear in ActiveSync on my XDA. Tonight, I switched back to my own server, and now (with no server changes, mind you), the options are still there & my up-to-date notifications are working!!
The only thing that I can think of that might have caused this issue is my ISA Server. When I synched with the Exchange server for the 1st time, a required registry entry on the ISA Server to enable up-to-date notifications had not been created. After researching the issue, I added the entry and bounced both the ISA Server & the Exchange Server. Of course, the missing options still did not appear in ActiveSync, so my guess is that maybe something was cached from my initial synchronization that didn't reset until I attempted to connect to a different server.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and input; it is greatly appreciated.
Now if someone can tell me where to get that 4.0.1 ROM, I'll be set...

Daniel
I had the same issue
Hi,
unfortunately I didn't notice this thread before, I had the same problem.
After several hours of research I got the problem solved by totally deactivating Exchange Server synchronization, deleting all the sync folders in the Exchange store (via WebDAV), deleting the old and creating a new partnership with ActiveSync and activating server snyc then again.
Don't know which of these actions corrected the problem but there seems to be a bug in Exchange that it doesn't update the Up-To-Date-Notification settings correctly (without newly setting up the synchronization).
Best,
jeff

I'm having a problem with messages not being sent to my phone, the reason, I think, is I did a hard reset on my device and the partnership between my phone and my Exchange server is screwed up. Can you describe to me the exact process you used?

Only 1 out of my 2 email accts retrieves new email messages?

Hello guys,
Currently I have an HP Ipag h6315 running Windows Mobile 2003. I have setup 2 emails account on my PDA ( Gmail & Bellsouth ).
I set both accounts to connect and retreive new messages every 2 minutes; however, only the account "checked" under ACCOUNTS will be the one that connects and retreive the email messages.
Shouldn't both accounts connect every 2 minutes and get new messages?
for example:
- If i go to inbox, it'll default to the inbox of whatever account i have checked under "accounts". if i check bellsouth, i'm able to see my messages from my bellsouth email address; however, after i close it and go back to the today screen, then only "Bellsouth" will connect and get new emails every 2 minutes.
- If i want Gmail to be the one to connect the every 2 minutes then i would have to go to inbox and check Gmail in order to gmail to be the one to connect every 2 minutes.
I dont know if that's the way its supposed to be, since i have set the option to connect every 2 minutes on both accts.
If anyone knows of this issue and happens to have a solution for it, i really appreciate it. Or perhaps is just a non-fixed bug.
thank you in advance,
Will V.
Unfortunately I think it's a bug in the Universal. I've been dealing with this problem since I got my Universal several months ago. Originally I thought it was a Windows Mobile 2005 problem, but I've had confirmation from several Wizard users (which is also WM2005) that their devices will check multiple accounts automatically.
For the time being I've gotten used to making sure my universal is always on my most important account and simply switching to my other account and manually checking it periodically. I'm hoping that this will be fixed in the next ROM upgrade.
Brett
Same problem for me in my Qtek 9000. Only the "active" account cheks mail automatically, no the others accounts. I´m asking for the solution in several forums but no possible. I think is a problem on WM5.
Actually it might be a problem with both WM3 (what i'm using) and WM5 (what you guys are using) kind of sucks to be having to switch in between accts in order get your new messages... if that's the case, that's a quality that the blackberrys will always outperformed the Windows mobile devices.
I'm sorry Will, I misread your first message. I believe it's a known issue in WM2003... it was supposed to be fixed in Wm2005, but there are still problems with the universal, at least.
Brett
I have the same issue.
Its a Pocket Outlook issue, as when I bought and switched to WebIS Mail, there wasnt an issue anymore. Works like a dream, no issues w/ it EVER and wil try to use wifi instead of gprs if you are on a wireless network, giving you a good speed burst w/ the universal...
Still on Pocket Outlook...is it possible to have a 'replay to' address specified for an e-mail account?
I can see that webIS Mail has the opiton but couldn't find it on Outlook.
thanks,

alternative to outlook and activesync.

i'm pretty fed up of outlook and how it screws with my contacts *i recently updated, and it removed all the titles from the names which is VERY annoying.* not to mention when i add contacts to my phone, it does NOT add them to outlook (maybe i'm just stupid but when i tried to set it to phone, it DELETED all my contacts sans a few) are there any alternative programs that are a bit easier and funner to use?
thanks in advance.
in one word: no.
Outlook is the easiest way AND the most perfected.
There are a few other possibilities to avoid outlook but in my opinion a pda without outlook is useless.
If you encountered problem it might be
-correct active sync version ?
corresponding to that : correct outlook version ?
-correct settings in active sync ?
If you fail to syncronize with ac....dont even try other solutions.
i'm using activesync 4.5 and the outlook version 2002, i copy contacts and settings from outlook just fine, with the exception of it screwing with the titles and names a bit, it's the other way around that's giving me a headache.
what do you recommend the optimal settings be so that if something is new on my computer, it transfers to my phone, and if something is new on my phone, it transfers to teh computer
(also anyway to stop it from seperating the names and removing titles?)
thanks in advance.
seems to be a settings problem
So i only have a german verison of ac i don't know the english name for the settings.
But you have to tell ac to sync in both ways and give the mobile thing the priority.
Then your problem should be solved.
did that, and once more it deleted all the contacts on my phone except for like 3-4 .... either this install is screwy or something is going wrong, or i'm just an idiot.
i refuse to sync with outlook!
i used to, and i ended up with half a dozen duplicate contact and calendar entries for each one!!! i tried settings, etc, finally said to hell with it and set the phone to not sync with outlook. i feel your pain.
Good, now i don't feel like an idiot
I had similar frustration. I eventually set up my 8125 to its own email address, and turned off the sync-ing of contacts. I have two separate contact lists now, but I'm not losing contacts from my phone all the time, either.
I do not have problems with duplicated events, but I publish my Outlook calendar to the phone, not the other way around.
I never schedule from my 8125. I always tell people to send it to my email, so I can control it from my PC. I only use the handheld on meeting-heavy days, and then I'm only checking email, and not accepting meetings.
Using: WM5, ActiveSync 4.5, Outlook 2003 on Desktop
Well, there is an alternative. I run linux so AS isn't even an option for me. I have been using FinchSync since I got the phone and it has worked great. I can even sync anywhere I have a network connection without being at home.
FinchSync uses an http connection to sync contacts with Mozilla's Thunderbird email and address client as well as your datebook with Mozilla's Sunbird calendar. So far it has worked great. One hint though, take the time to read the install and configuration instructions on their website!
Hope this helps!
PhilD
I absolutely hate Activesync. I update my phone contacts and appointments via my Tilt, and then hook it up to my computer only to find that Activesync is deleting them on my phone and restoring the older files on my two PC's. I think, "oh, well I must have the sync settings set improperly," so I check them on my PC and my Tilt... it turns out that it only goes one way: from the PC to the mobile device. (Please correct me if I'm missing something.) You can just disable the sync settings, but then what's the point of having the program installed?
Personally, I have few complaints about Outlook.
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to be giving PDASync a try. They seem to advertise all of the features I'm looking for, although it does carry a hefty price tag of $50.
http://www.laplink.com/pdasync/
I'm still not 100% sold on PDASync. It seems to lack the ability to sync internet browser favorites/bookmarks and custom file folders. The quest continues.
On a slightly brighter note, this seems like quite a useful list of syncing software.
http://pocketpccentral.net/software/sync.htm
i must use lapsync because i don't want all 1500 outlook contacts into my phone, so i filter them by category and only sync a certain category.
i dont sync bookmarks, but i know you can use AS to sync ONLY bookmarks. to sync custom files and folders, try mobsync - its free.
I Tried Laplink today, This needs ActiveSync to function properlyu (did not see my device attached). I am lucky I had trial software instead of paying $ 50

[Push Mail] How to configure Gmail account ?

I was wondering if its possible to get pushmail for gmail without using outlook ?
Is this possible ? Am I supposed to use IMAP or POP mail ?
Please help, thanks
If you setup mail, it will automatically setup for IMAP.
You configure for how often it checks the server.
Thanks I just did that, but the problem is it checks every 5 minutes, thats not exactly push mail is it ?? It should have the option "As mail arrives"
I tried deleting an email from my inbox, but when I check online, its still there (the actual gmail inbox) .. it seems they are not really in function are they ?
EDIT : Okay The messages got deleted in the browser inbox after 5 minutes ... So the email syncs every 5 minutes
How can I make it an instant connection (pushmail) ??
Actually Outlook Mobile 2007/2010 still pulls from IMAP instead of receiving pushes (Microsoft doesn't exactly know about IDLE). You'll want to set up an Exchange connection. See here for more details about Google Sync.
You'll want to configure the server manually. You can find ActiveSync somewhere into your Start menu, otherwise just go to the Sense settings tab, Data Service and ActiveSync to configure the server, then follow the instructions from the link above.
Thank you very much, that worked, and I can choose "As item arrives" now
One last thing, is it possible to change the email name from Outlook to something else ? e.g. Gmail ?
ZaZu90, what domain did you choose while configuring the connection? I can't click next unless I choose a domain, since the activesync software is different and probably newer than the one used in the google instructions...
I followed Yunabeco's link, the domain was left blank.
You have to initiate the email settings from active sync, not from adding a new account.
Check the intsturctions ^^
Yes I am trying to do the same but as I said I cannot leave the domain blank, i HAVE to fill in something in order to continue configuring the connection...

Yea, that's the same document as earlier in this thread, but the problem is that the instructions don't work on some devices.. see the previous page
I just did the Push Mail setup (used the link from Yunabeco post)
I had no problem with the instructions, but for some reason it will only get the mail when I do an ActiveSync.
The ActiverSync chedule is set to sync during Peak times (As Items arrive) and off-peak times (As Items arrive).
The Use above settings and Send/Receive when I click Send) are als set to on.
Did I miss a setting as it's not working for me the way it should, or do I need to set something in my Gmail account also?

Barty,
Surprised at this. I set this up the other day on my device in order to talk someone through it and it worked. Deleted it as I don't need push mail right now.
Wondered if those who can't get it working can put down the steps they have taken to setup on their devices and we can see how we can help?

I wonder if its possible to set up multiple push mail accounts ?
Gonna search for that now, if anyone got a link before I finish my little research, please add it !

[Q] Direct Push

I absolutely love my focus with WP7, but my new office only supports direct push and they wont allow this hotmail connector thing.
Are there any plans to include this support in the upcoming release. I hate the idea of having to give up my windows phone because it wont support exchange like most other phones.

It does support exchange activesync. In fact it is THE only push email technology the phone supports (both Hotmail and Gmail use EAS).
thanks for the reply. I take it this means, I shouldn't expect a change and need to order a new phone.

That means your Focus currently already supports push email from your Exchange server. What you need is to talk to you IT admin about how to configure it (you will need to connect to an external exchange server address that is accessible via internet, not your desktop Outlook) and if you are allowed to do so (some companies add additional permission policy to limit the access). A new phone doesn't solve you any thing. EAS is not a new technology. It's been here about 5 years since old Windows Mobile 5.0.
So what specifically do i need to request since the current setup works with WM 6.5, iphone, and android.
There is nothing special need to be done on Focus. Exchange Active Sync is the same as on WM. iPhone or Android. The only thing that WP7 lacks, from what I read, is email encryption. If your company requires email encryption policy, it will not work. But again, Android never really supports email encryption either. So, if you have Android working (not using 3rd party software like TouchDown), you should be fine.
What exactly is your problem with your Exchange Sync. Outlook Hotmail connector has nothing to do with it. It is only required if you want to sync your non-Exchange Outlook calendar and contacts to hotmail.
Actually, I have only tried it with WM 6.5 and iPhone. Email does require encryption. When I try to add the settings to the focus it just says it outlook account info is incorrect. I had heard 3rd hand that people were able to get android going so thanks for the heads up. I was about to order an atrix.
I guess iPhone 4 is my only real option...
I'm willing to bet you just have the settings incorrect and your focus will work perfectly.
I work for Microsoft and I've had WM5, WM6.5, all of the iphones, and now a Samsung Focus all connected to corporate restricted exchange.
Our corporate policies are very strong, and yet our phones work fine. I can't read an encrypted message on the phone (but no phone other than the old WM can do that), but as far as connecting and downloading mail I think WP7 does it best. The only feature I believe is currently missing is threaded view, which I would assume is coming at some point.
My WP7 phone is currently connected to two separate exchange servers (MS corp, and outlook.com, which is similar to hotmail). So it's all possible.
What is it you're trying to do, and what's not working? Hotmail should work 100% since I believe they've rolled out direct exchange support for all accounts.
Thanks for helping.... Email works fine with hotmail, yahoo, and gmail. Its only when I try my outlook exchange mail that I have any issues. I have tried all of the possible permutations for setup.
I am not the only one with this problem
answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-sync/does-windows-phone-7-sync-to-outlook/48ae2598-f773-4b4c-87cc-54d8c5c012d2

They both seem to point out the deficiency with the phone.
So you have ecncrypted corporate email and dont have a problem?
You've lost me a little bit. Which are you trying to sync to Outlook (the desktop application), or Exchange (the mail server system)?
If you're trying to sync to Outlook, then i think you're out of luck. But, if you're trying to sync to Exchange (which is what 90% of people will have Outlook sync to), then it should work. I read both of the articles you linked, and they refer to Outlook data syncing, not to exchange. At least from what I gathered.
The phone can sync any mails with exchange, but there are two limitations. Specific private encrypted mails can't currently be read on any phone I believe (I think WM6.5 was the last OS to support them), and the WP7 device doesn't support full OS and storage encryption. It is possible for an Exchange admin to require that setting, although it's not common. A future release should include device encryption.
So, if you have a requirement on the second, then it sounds like WP7 won't current work for you. But, if it's not device encryption that you're looking for, then it sounds like WP7 should work fine.
Thanks for your help. I am trying to synch with exchange. I'll keep trying to configure it. I've asked our IT guys for help, but they have never even seen a phone with 7.
When I setup the account, there is a setting for logs. Do you happen to know where those end up and how I might get to them?
I don't know where the logging goes, but perhaps the error message your getting can be helpful?
I ran across this page:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...exchange/7ccd6098-f9b5-44c7-84c6-2fd9e6a097f9
Which appears to hit some of the issues you're facing, and might provide some validation to the settings you're using.
Turns out your hunches were right, after escalating the issue for a week, the IT team came back and said "ooops" we forgot to add you to the list.
I put in the settings and everything works great. Thanks for challanging my assumption.
