I´ve received the information that this model was discontinued. Can anyone confirm this?
EDITED
Just received answer from HTC, it was a rumour. Here´s their answer:
"No, it is not discontinued. it was only released less than 6 months ago, and all of our handsets 'live' for at least one year. Whoever told you that it had been discontinued was incorrect. best regards, HTC Europe Support"
depends on what "they" mean by discontinued.
if that means there will be no support, no firmware updates and other upgrades, then we have a problem.
if it means that there will not follow an "Iolite II", then I don't care.

I believe it means that the phone is no longer fabricated by HTC...
mummuapsu: Source of this information? Because to me, it looks like "bad joke". Anyway, if it will be HardSPL for Iolite, I don't care about no future updates.

the source: in some online store sites the product appear as discontinued.
+ in http://www.htc.com/pt/ (the portuguese HTC site), the iolite no longer appears...
I'm not trying to create a new fake rumour, just searching for some info on this...
It's still there:

At first, I don't trust to online stores and at second, on that portuguese site, Iolite is just on the front page in left bottom corner . However, you must look on europe version of HTC pages, because on lot of regional ones new products appears really late.

I do but from the speculated specs it's not gonna have US 3G bands. I hope the rumors are wrong. Plus, I can imagine how much it's gonna cost. I'm not paying anywhere near a $1000...maximum maybe around $700.

i did hear this a while ago but have not seen it confirmed, when i ask by twitter on the xperia blog i was told it was up to vodaphone to announce it but on there website it just says november.
just got a direct message from the xperia blog on twitter. i ask why i have not see and reviews yet. they said that they are still waiting for the final x2 software and and we should see reviews soon. they said in a twwet to someone else that they should be sent out next week.
can they release on the 6 november when they still have not got the final software? i doubt they will, my guess would be mid to late november

Would seem odd, but then again it wouldnt suprise me if SE released this early without the final software update. It says so on the Voda website that it will come on the 6th.

To find out, go to this page http://www.vodafonetouchthephone.com/ , click on "skill game", while playing that on the bottom left of the screen different phones will pop up, everytime the phone pops up the date of release pops up with it. You may have to play it a few times as different phones pop up.

looks like the 6th is the official date. but one thing i would point out is the satio's date is the original one and that was delayed by a week or 2 so the x2 might get the same treatment but lets hope not.
We won't see the X2 in the shelves before the very end of November the earliest.

I can wait!
I don't get it... so You guys are actually waiting for it?? damn... msm 7200a cpu is sooo yesterday comparing to snapdragon or a8 cortex devices. I would wait few more weeks/months if I were You. the worst thing one can do is to sign a vodaphone contract for 18 - 24 mths to get it. well... other than 8 mp camera, what's so special about x2 anyway? panels? please..... SE's quality??
...
I am keeping x1 till release reviews of htc leo, n900 and x3 (if those rumours about nov 3 are real).
then I shall burn my money...
X2 java speed at top
Someone wrote in an SE forum that X2 might get different hardware specs than what leaked before (7200a). Lets wait for the final device and see what aktually is in it
Lets hope they speed it up a bit.
If it does come out on the 6th it'd be just in time before the warranty for my X1 expires so that I can send it for servicing of the keyboard. Been delaying it for so long cos can't do without it for a day.

Well what is SO strange if somebody WANTS that?
I don't ****ing care if it's "so yesterday" or today on paper.
If it works well - great, **** the "dry" specs.
And if it works bad, it's bad.
BTW I don't get any Vodafone contract, but simply buy this from SE.
As for device: great camera, great keyboard, good quality, and yes - also those damned panels. Now you get it?
Snapdragon - there are only two now, both touchscreen only, even no camera button - thank you.
I'm very picky as for hardware/formfactor, nothing convinces me.
N900 - please, a device which works in landscape ONLY???
So - not much to choose from!
And Android - that would be interesting but again - depending too much on Google - thanks.
I'd be really happy to have at least 3 devices I like to choose from but it just cannot happen!
HTC makes such a crappy devices (form factor/functionality)....

Unless HTC go out of their minds they surely won't release a WM7 update for HD2 in Q4 2010, as by that time they will have a new flagship device ready for the holiday season.

I think HTC is faced with the same issue they faced with the launch of the Diamond 2 and Touch pro 2 months prior to the official launch of WM6.5. The HD2 is due to be released in the US and other territories in Q1 2010 at the same time WM7 is due to be officially announced. Faced with the same circumstances they faced with WM6.5 I expect them to act in the same way and provide a update to WM7 as otherwise sales in the markets it is due to be released in in 2010 Q1 would be likely to be severly limited. Any other course does not make much sense.
WM7 is going to be announced in Q1, but judging by the information that's been out so far it's still due to be released no earlier than Q3/Q4 2010.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Diamond 2 and TR2 were announced in May 2008 and WM6.5 appeared in October so I see little diffence here, though the official announcement was necessarily earlier. HTC has announced a future policy of releasing less models and going for more volume, so not offering a WM7 update to US Q1 purchasers would surely severly restrict potential HD2 sale volumes.
It probably makes little difference to us here I guess, as I suspect like me many early adopters would probably be ready for a new phone come this time next year in any event.

May through October is 5 months. October through October is 12 months. Don't know about you, but I see one hell of a lot of difference. Also, Diamond 2 and TP2 got their upgrades at a time when they are still the top-of-the-line HTC smaller form factor and QWERTY models (i.e. the upgrade gave them a boost in the middle of their lifecycle). By the time WM7 will come out it will be time for HTC to launch a successor to HD2, so the latter will have to go out of the way. That's another huge difference in my opinion.

I think you overestimate general consumer awareness about what WM versions exist and what the difference is. Android may be well-known because of the media hysteria, but if MS are going to advertise WM7 they have already shown that they now smartly refer to their stuff as "Windows Phone", and that will be the name by which most people will likely know phones like HD2 or HD3.
I burped so hard while I read this.
I'm not worried about a new flagship device. By the time HTC arrives with it the issues of the HD2 will be solved and be used to your hearts content. Don't forget there is a 1 GHZ processor in the HD2. The good news, and not unexpectedly, HD2 will probably be upgradable to windows mobile 7 is the logical step. The current windows mobile 6.5 has developed itself and feels like the windows vista equivalent. I think it would only be logical to argument, just like windows 7 to consider windows mobile 7 an "update" to windows mobile 6.5 rather than an "upgrade". I think it would do the HD2 justice. One can just feel that the HD2 can do more than what the current OS is portraying. It would be like extending the life of the HD2.

The big difference is that W7 is a new OS, while 6.5 was just an update. I don't think WM7 will be officially available for the HD2. In autumn 2010 when WM7 will ship, the HD2 will be outdated anyway, and HTC will do everything to shift customers to their new products that ship with WM7. It will be a major sales argument to go for a new phone next year. HTC would be commercially stupid to offer WM7 free of charge for their "old" phones.

hehe Nexus One is a HTC device so "never buying HTC devices again" but "Buying Nexus One" is kinda stupid
Although I must say, I would prefer Nexus One over the Desire just because I know Google will "always" make sure it'll get new software updates and the Desire updates will be postponed just like the Hero ones due to business agreements and SenseUI issues and more...
I have been using Legends n Eris's ROMS ported onto Hero, so far.. But all that I want is a stable 2.1 ROM from HTC.. Instead of releasing new phones like Legend (Which is just a metal upgrade for HTC Hero + 1GHz proc) they should have concentrated on releasing update for Hero which has a large customer base. And I even read somewhere that Both Sprint Hero n GSM Hero have won awards in their respective categories.. This aint happening..

This isn't a press release - it's rumour and supposition, the same as all the rumour threads on this site.
It may well be that the update doesn't come until April, but this poorly written article isn't an official HTC missive and therefore should be treated as hearsay at best and a fabrication at worst.

New Response From [ Anthony (UK - Ireland Support (Tech)) ]
Dear Customer,
We understand that now that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Hero. We are still hard at work building Sense for this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android version to ensure you have the intuitive experience Sense provides, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer.

Inquiry Description Hi, I have been waiting for Android 2.1 Update for my HTC Hero from last 3 months. All that I have got is news of update being getting postponed. Recent one told me that the update is coming in "LATE APRIL". :-( Harsha S
Issue Date & Time
2010/03/17 10:05
I think that HTC should schedule two differents update for each android device, one with clean android OS and optimized drivers focused on specific hardware, and one with optimized senseUI and others HTC customizations... in that case, it could follow OS upgrade very fast and satisfy who want to be updated with OS, and then take all required time to optimize and develop custom UI...
anyway... it is exciting to test and try custom 2.1 roms and the developers here at xda are doing a great work!
but it is also frustrating to wait for HTC official update!
Yeah getting access to a new kernal would be nice
Is this update so important???
We can flash HERO with a good working port rom and we have 2.1
I do not see the problem haha

Sure we have some nice 2.1 roms at the moment but they are inherently buggy with things that will definitely be fixed when we can lay our hands on an official rom things like battery life and 3d graphics.

I've seen that too! I've seen all the threads, and not one of them has an "official" date in it.
The simple fact of the matter is that HTC customer care do not have a clue. Take anything you read as coming from them with a large pinch of salt.
Regardless, this doesn't change the fact that the "press release" you linked to is clearly not an official HTC statement.
Regards,
dave
What!?
Ok so this has pi**ed me off. I have been waiting for the 2.1 official update to be released now for a LONG time - the issue really is that it was "meant" to come around about now (mid March). It's the fact that it's seeming been pushed back and now artificially put on hold because they don't want to affect the freaking Leg-end. I'd much rather they just announced the update wil be available on a specific date - 23rd July for e.g. and then if it's early its a bonus. They must be aware/accept that Android users are going to be more tech-savvy than most and will therefore not appreciate being jerked around and left in the lurch while users of other Android handsets have 2.1 already and have for a while now = no real technical reason for the delay as far as I'm concerned.
Having said all the above - what do HTC care? If someone from HTC reads these forums then the above is my 2 cents and I think they would create a lot of GOODwill instead of resentment if they were more transparent with their customers. I'm seriously doubting whether to buy HTC or HTC made again because I *like* to be up-to-date with functionalities etc. A platform like Android was *made* to be upgradeable and improved upon and this is a clear case of HTC's beuracracy getting in the way of their customer service. They don't have to do jack sh*t for their customers though because of course once you've bought a phone you're usually locked in - but they sure as hell could learn a thing or two about engendering customer appreciation and loyalty.
So there will be people out there who think "What's the problem?! Your phone runs fine!" Well if you're asking that question then you're probably not reading this forum in the first place because then why would you have any interest in phone OS development and all the joys it brings.
I hope this report is wrong. I hope the ROM comes very soon because I guarantee HTC (not that they care) that delaying it much longer will do quite a lot to put people off their SenseUI phones and HTC in general. Apple is due to release 4.0 soon and Microsoft is about to unleash Winmo7 series so it's not like there's a lack of competition.
You all know what i MEAN - even if i didn't say it right!
I haven't yet found a single 2.1 rom that is stable enough to use daily and that includes my respect and reverence for the talent and hard work that goes into making these cooked roms.
Ola!

Unless they need to make some changes for the hero that we haven't considered?
Can't think what though
What's wrong with 1.5?
Why is everyone so desperate to get 2.1 on their Hero. The 1.5 ROM works very well for me anyway and I don't have any battery or any other problems.
I've tried all the various 2.1 ROMs on this board and while they are very well done I haven't found any to have the battery life of 1.5 so have always reverted back to the shipped ROM.
Now if 1.5 was full of bugs then I could understand all the fuss. As it's not - I can't.
Don't get me wrong I shall upgrade to 2.1 as soon as it's released I just can't understand the rush.
Is there some "must have" facility that I'm missing on the 2.1 ROM?
is this ever going to happen ? i know there were some rumours going on in march , saying tattoo will get the taste of 2.1 ... everyone said then than tattoo is going to get an update from 1.6 but nothing happened. is there ever going to be an official version of android 2.1 for tattoo ? thx
Give up the hope for an 2.1 update.
There were rumors. But they were nothing more than rumors.
This question was asked and discussed enough in different threads and the most threads came to the conclusion that we shouldn't wait for HTC to give us official 2.1

If you dont want to get disappointed buy a HTC Desire Z
.. and exactly this is htcs strategy. Release no updates for old/low-end devices, so the customer hast to buy a new one, if he wants new software.
It wold be very nice, if they would open the 1.6 cam(fm,..)-drivers to us. So they could be ported to 2.2. But then everyone had a great phone and no one would buy a new/expensive one.
Next time I buy a device, i will think about, if I buy a htc or not, but the other companies do not much better.

share cam and fm drivers
Does anyone tried to ask HTC developers for cam/FM kern modules? If rom cooking is legal thing (isn't it?), then they maybe share those modules for a discounted device. Maybe need enough ppl to ask.
Or just try unofficial way, by getting contact to one of the developers.
Personally i don't wanna sell my tattoo. I like it, however that upgrade is really need (ofc with working cam/fm).
Well i sent message to htc to ask them if there will be any update for tattoo and here is their answer
Dear Mr. Tino,
Thank you for contacting us,
Kindly be informed that for the time being there’s no information regarding any future upgrade for the HTC Tattoo, you can, however, visit the HTC website from time to time to keep track of any released software.
Please note that you can contact us via support line.

htc update
And I've got this mail from HTC:
Currently there is no plan to upgrade your phone to Android 2.1. The result of our analysis showed that an upgrade
to your phone may impact the user experience and we ultimately decided that an upgrade was not recommended.
Your phone will still receive support, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

.. and exactly this is htcs strategy.

Back in June I purchased Tattoo believing Roumors.. here in India the retailers too promised me that HTC is coming up with updates. I purchased it and got rid of it within the first month. Purchased the Desire and the very same day 2.2 update was available
When HTC came up with Desire HD and new Sense UI I knew HTC would do exactly the same to Desire as it had done to its other phone. Desire Z and Desire have almost all the same specs infact Z has slower processor. But HTC has so far not released a comment if Desire will get the upgrade.
Long story cut short.. when HTC launches new phones it conviniently forgets to serve old customers.. but who the hell cares as long there is XDA team.. I am running RCMixHD v.14 on my desire and really dont care if HTC will provide an official update.
So all my friends using Tattoo just give up the hope of 2.1 from HTC. Root your phone and flash a custom ROM and dont complain if u brick ur phone
Good Luck.

maybe they have problems with camera too on 2.2??
I couldn't care less about HTC giving the Tattoo an update, but they could at least have helped giving us a working camera!
Stunned by htc Support
I've contacted HTC Support for Tattoo upgrade and they promised me that their technical team is working on it "very closely" but release plan is not available. I contacted them quite a few times now... and really stunned by their idiotic answers...
I've posted my conversation with them on a blog stunnedbyhtcsupport[dot]wordpress[dot]com [I couldn't post the link as I'm a new user] (You can visit my homepage)
You can see how stupid answers they are providing to their customers...
I've given up all hopes for any official support for Tattoo now and I've purchased a Motorola android device. Will never come back to HTC.

Really HTC support is crap...
HTC ignores its user
Thanks to HTC. Such ignorance can not be overlooked. I had a similar experience with Nokia. Now I will bought a Samsung, I'll see if they are more honest.
