Which rom? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I just got a mytouch3g and I'm looking for a rom which has the best balance of features and speed. Any help? Thanks
I definitely want the camera working and multitouch in the browser

I'd suggest Dwang's ROM. It's lightning fast and has some nice features (but not too much crap).
You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567023
P.S. Dwang's ROM has the memory hack which takes 10MB RAM destined for your GPU and uses it as normal memory. Don't use this ROM if you plan on playing 3D games.

It's preference, do a search.

Fastest, least laggy ROM ?

I am looking for the fastest, least laggy ROM. I dont need all the bells and whistles, just something that doesnt lock up every couple of days.
Any suggestions?
Cyanogen 4.1.11.1 + 10% Ram Inc.
Just use cyanogen latest 4.1.11.1, it doesn't have alot of bells and whistles and I haven't run across much lag, also look into increasing your ram by 10% i believe its under the development section.

[POLL] Just how fast is really "fast"?

Hi everyone,
The increase in speed and overall performance of the HD2 is truly impressive, even when upgrading from a capable device like the Raphael.
Still, when sifting through the various threads, I see more and more users either complaining about the speed of stock ROMs and/or praising custom ROMs for their performance.
I got my device with a stock ROM dated from Dec-09 (don't know the exact build cause I flashed it immediately ), and performance was a dream. I've tried a couple of cooked ROMs on top of it, and each one performed similarly: very responsive and incredibly fast.
That's when I started thinking: just how fast is really fast then? In other words: what makes a ROM appear fast? Is it how smooth you flip through the Manila tabs, load and scroll through web pages, install an application, copy files, play a video etc.? For me, it's all of it (well, kind of). And my Leo responds almost instantly whatever I want it to do which makes it a dream device to use.
Just curious to hear your opinion/experience on that.
Cheers.
In my opinion the Manila Part is really making the thing. Fast Manila means Fast Rom for me. And I like good results on my CorePlayer Benchmarks
Thats about what makes it feel "fast" for me.
whatever we get we always want more, human natures greed streak!
so yeah it is fast but until it moves faster than our brains react then people will not be happy!
me included.....
Fast manila
But according to me the problem with leo is not the speed or performance
in which there is no comparision at all
the basic prob. Lies is battery
so we want a rom with radio included best for least amount of battery consumption which i hav noticed lasts for less thn a day when ever htc sense is activated and of normal routine use
For me increases in speed are less noticeable than decreases. So when something does improve speed I don't notice it all that much and if I do, my mind quickly gets used to it. But if I do something that decreases speed it's immediately and forever noticeable.
I believe it depends on your aspect. I mean, can you catch the difference between the two sport cars when they are at the limit of their velocity like 300km/h and 310km/h with your senses. I can't
But could you measure it? of course yes.
So i think, it depends on which side are you stay.
For me it feels fast when i can scroll through the manila tabs really smoothly and fast

Recently I was upgrading my good old Kaiser, I totally know what you mean
With the HD2, it's pretty difficult to make it slow, so I don't really think there is that speed aspect left now.
With ROMs, there's much less performance, much more about the features you want.
There are a few roms I have tried and noticed sense occasionally lag, and it instantly makes me change to a different rom. I know the phone is capable of being smooth so I wont put up with it not being.
For me, Sense must be fast, but opening the usual things like emails must be near instant too.
Fast = instant, no waiting, < 2 seconds to launch *any* app. Or in other words, iPhone 3GS-like performance (at least).
Of course, features and stability are also very important must-haves in custom roms.

The iPhone does something that WM doesn't do, and that is animate to a blank screen/splash screen before actually loading anything. Lots of games have splash screens that take an age to load, whereas WM just loads the program and when it's loaded it displays full screen.
I think there are two roms that set some good stds.
Xanny's Evolution rom is one of the fastest Manila Roms. Very quick and snappy in Manilla. Outside it is also good.
Kholk Eugneia Rom with the 1GHZ rom is average in some areas but some apps it is seriously fast. TomTom loads in a flat 2 secs with Aussie maps. Compared to 3.5 secs for most other roms.
If Xanny tries the 1Ghz hack then my phone might just melt.

That speed you are seeing is not from the 1ghz hack it is from Extendir which increases the speed of File systen read time. So opening some programs will be faster. The down side if it is not properly configured the Notes will not sync and cause other problems accessing the storage card like music etc.
fast is when, you listin to music+go to the setup installation+ browse websites
"fast" is very subjective judgement. i like to see my HD2 make smooth transitions from screen to screen and "clouds to moove smooth".
talking about fast in program loading only points out your unknowing of how stuff works expecialy when you compare things to iPhone.
fast with other name might be Android, which really works on phone raw power and not some cheap tricks to make it look smooth.
WWWROEOEOEOEMMMM that's fast!
Strange.
The 1ghz rom had quite slow disk access (SPB Bench) compared to Xanny's
However the 1Ghz Rom's CPU marks were faster than Xanny's
On average Xanny's rom is the least laggy of any rom. Very nice and snappy.

OK, from what I've seen so far, I conclude that it's mainly Manila that needs to be smooth and snappy to make the ROM appear fast. Makes sense, cause everything else is already super fast on this wonderful device.

Which Rom to choose? Is Data2Ext worth it?

I am relatively new with androids and never had another one except my Orange San Francisco which I got it preloaded with Cyanogen Mod 7. Up until now I thought that there is only that Rom for the blade, as it seems I was proven wrong by just taking a look in here.
I really want to make my phone go faster and the only thing I found was to use Data2Ext. I am not really sure what the other roms offer but I have had no problems with CM7 except that its relatively slow on even the desktop when I use different screen transition effects.
At any rate I would like to find out if Data2Ext will boost up its power a bit and will also go for any rom that will enhance the GPU to play some games a bit better. Could you please suggest a rom and let me know of a way to do data2ext? Or maybe a rom that has that option. Thank you very much
Data2ext just give you more free space in internal memory. Cm7 is very fast for me. lags on desktop are normal in adw.launcher. Try any other, for example launcher pro our go launcher
Edit: sorry, I thought you write data2sd. Data2ext will speed up the phone, I had it at my previous phone, very noticeable boost
Sent from my Blade using Tapatalk
Well if CM7 is fine then I will stick with it. As for Data2Ext I have seen the results on a friends Huawei Ideos S7. The tablet was strong before it but after it was flying. I looked around for a way to do it but I am not really sure I found something that will actually work. Last thing I want is to brick my beloved Blade.
I recommend "Nemus Launcher".
But here are other excellent roms.
Swedish Snow RLS4b nice 3D performace
Elite Blade_Rom 2.3.5 (s5) as smooth as possible
Ginger SF r4 battery life is AWESOME!!!
Wow now these are a lot of recommendations. I guess I will first try the Elite blade one. Although I am more interested in data2ext. I have been trying to install it for a while but nothing seems to work sadly.

Best Performance Setup

Anyone care to share what they feel is their solid core setup? I think at this point in the Hero's life there has to be a a pretty solid combo of ROM+themes+apps that work ideally as far as performance vs. features go.
Been playing with 1ceb0x's ROM at the moment and I have a few apps that i've picked up and always use. I use handcentSMS for my messaging app, however its kind of slow. I keep a reddit app, reddit for fun. Facebook is always **** so not really worried about that one. SwiftkeyX has become my keyboard of choice however it is kind of slow.
Pretty much gave up on any games. Robodefense was pretty much the only thing I played anyways. Emulating gameboy is pretty solid too though.
What do you guys think

Go sms pro (free app) + Go sms ICS UI (or something like that) theme (Free) for a fast, fully rich and nice looking sms app. and fast too
Being a guy who works internally, I always install root explorer, terminal emulator.
At this hour I can't remember any apps that are "core".
Are you using the latest version of goSMS? All the recent reviews are along the same lines with saying they ruined it with the latest update.
There are many system apps that you might not even be using, but they still consume RAM and processing power.
This is my current recepie for a fast hero:
*Elelinux gingerbread rom i
*ES file manager
*All apks i never use (Such as mail.apk) deleted
*And pretty much all else stock.
Stock Launcher and keyboard (I especially like the keyboard)
*No app2SD
It's not the best, but I like it and it's lightweight and easy.
If there is any more lightweight launcher in the market, I'd like to know.
Now i use Shpongle v3.6 with nothing removed... added a few apps (friendcaster, flickr, twitter, dropbox, fxcamera, maps,iGo etc... ) and i overclock the cpu to 691/264 for normal use, and i use 518/176 for standby (when i not use the phone i.e. over night when i sleep).
With this setup i get excellent rom speed and stability.
Icebox done a great job with tweaking the Decked_X Rom (@Goku) and FlyKernel13A (@erasmux), so i think that this setup on another rom will not be the same.
p.s. i use smartassV2 as a default governor.
I find the Cronos Ginger X rom to be the best for battery life and performance, it also feels much snappier then other roms in my opinion.

What NativeSD android for games ?

What is the best NativeSD android rom I can use for games ? Currently I'm with Dorimanx high end rom, android 2.3.7 but performance is not good. NFS Most wanted lags badly.
There is no "best rom". And personally I didn't see any difference between NativeSD and NAND. So basically, use any HWA enabled ROM and you should be good to go.
Any ICS or JB rom because of hardware acceleration.
I recommend tytung's cm9 rom, you will gain much in gaming performance, but don't expect any miracles in really demanding games such as new NFS.

Is this the correct rom you were referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681906 ? I installed the rom but overall performance - swyping through menus, launching apps and etc. seems slower than dormanx gingerbread. Is this common with ICS roms ? I still haven't tried games.

Marvlesz above me has pointed you to the right direction.
As for the ROM you installed, i don't know, never tried it. You could try both of them to see which one fits you better.
Overall performance between GB and ICS should be pretty close, maybe a bit better on GB builds because it's less resource hungry, but on ICS you get some nice stuff like much better gaming performance, smoother web browsing + more.
Installed it. NFS Most Wanted works full speed now or at least a lot better than gingerbread. But again overall performance is not so good. More waiting for menus to show. Not so fluid. Dormanx rom is more fluid and faster with immediate loadings of every app. isn't it there a similar rom to dorimanx with hwa
There is no HWA on Gingerbread, we are very sorry for your disappointment. However, you may like to have a look at our selection of new devices, which have the fluidity of Gingerbread AND the performance of ICS/Jb.
^That's a joke.
Oh well, no games for me then I'm sure I wouldn't play them anyway but I like everything to work properly on my phone. I reverted back to dorimanx rom, thanks for the advices.
I will look at your selection of new devices probably when Ubuntu for phones is out :
Yeah, I personally also find ICS and above slower for everyday use than GB but I just love web browsing with HWA and the Holo UI of JB (not to mention Google Now) so I don't think I'm going to go back to GB any time soon.
