Which Rom to choose? Is Data2Ext worth it? - Blade General

I am relatively new with androids and never had another one except my Orange San Francisco which I got it preloaded with Cyanogen Mod 7. Up until now I thought that there is only that Rom for the blade, as it seems I was proven wrong by just taking a look in here.
I really want to make my phone go faster and the only thing I found was to use Data2Ext. I am not really sure what the other roms offer but I have had no problems with CM7 except that its relatively slow on even the desktop when I use different screen transition effects.
At any rate I would like to find out if Data2Ext will boost up its power a bit and will also go for any rom that will enhance the GPU to play some games a bit better. Could you please suggest a rom and let me know of a way to do data2ext? Or maybe a rom that has that option. Thank you very much

Data2ext just give you more free space in internal memory. Cm7 is very fast for me. lags on desktop are normal in adw.launcher. Try any other, for example launcher pro our go launcher
Edit: sorry, I thought you write data2sd. Data2ext will speed up the phone, I had it at my previous phone, very noticeable boost

Well if CM7 is fine then I will stick with it. As for Data2Ext I have seen the results on a friends Huawei Ideos S7. The tablet was strong before it but after it was flying. I looked around for a way to do it but I am not really sure I found something that will actually work. Last thing I want is to brick my beloved Blade.

I recommend "Nemus Launcher".
But here are other excellent roms.
Swedish Snow RLS4b nice 3D performace
Elite Blade_Rom 2.3.5 (s5) as smooth as possible
Ginger SF r4 battery life is AWESOME!!!

Wow now these are a lot of recommendations. I guess I will first try the Elite blade one. Although I am more interested in data2ext. I have been trying to install it for a while but nothing seems to work sadly.

Fastest 1.5/1.6 rom out there!

I've been using pretty much only Cyanogens Roms for about a year now. But I'd like to know what people opinions are, concerning the FASTEST rom available for the dream.
This is quite likely to not change as most people are now developing 2.1 roms, that won't be complete until the video drivers are released.
What does everyone think?
Interesting post... I've currently running CM4.2.5 mainly because all of the new versions run a lot slower than this version!
Haven't really bothered looking elsewhere yet, but would be really interested in the answer to this post.
I don't really see what you get with 2.0/2.1 that is worth putting up with a less responsive handset.
Super D or Dwangs.
I used to use Cyanogen until I tried Dwangs (then messed around with Eclair builds) and then Super D.
They're VERY fast. Super D more than Dwang I would say.
Definately Super D!
Currently running no comcache (fix is in the pipeline) and no swap and this rom flies! God only knows how much faster it can get with comcache!
Super D is the fastest but when I flashed a theme on top it wasn't responsive anymore. Most notably the screen would go into standby and never come out of it.
I would recommend the Rom on my signature.
For me riite now is dwang

Also, note that even a clean wipe and flash of the Super D resulted in the same results.
Even a nandroid restore couldn't fix the issue.
Biggest problem is the ram hack, some of us still want 3D game performance...
I'm using Dwang and loving it. Much much faster than the recent cyanogens and more stable.
I haven't tried super D.
Super D for me! Although I tried that CSDI which is by far the fastest and doesn't use the RAM hack - I just don't like some of the minor things in it.
Add me to the SuperD list. By far the fastest and most stable ROM I've used in the last six months.
Dwang by far, I've used pretty much every 1.6 ROM out there.
CM, I'm sorry but I find just way too slow, unresponsive and oddly for me often drops text messages and is not reliable in receiving MMS.
Dwang is just lightning fast for me for the most part, the 10MB hack with a compromise on 3D gaming is a bit of an annoyance. I have however noticed quite a bit more force closes on Super D, usually with Android framework, however that could just be the theme (DarkStar) I'm using. I've been using this ROM for months now though however, I just wish they would update, its been a while.
EDIT: I dont know why I said Super D, I meant to say Dwang -_-
BoogieDonut.5 is pretty good too
This week I jumped from cyan's latest to Wes's latest to Super D... Super D really was smokin. I think it's the crack!
Rogers users like me have no choice
Ion r1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520097&highlight=ion+haykuro+r1 (though you'll have to dig around to find the actual r1 instead of r2 which became significantly slower).
Hey, you did ask "Fastest 1.5/1.6 rom out there!", didn't you?
Nothing, I repeat, nothing, has yet been as stupidly fast as the Ion 1.5 r1 build, and it's still by and far the benchmark against which all other rom's speed is weighted.
So Super D seems like the fastest going by number of votes.
Which version are you all using?
Hope this helps
for a Android 1.5- MLIGN 3.2B (not 3.3) or KingKlick Hero-Sense Hybrid 2.3. VERY FAST Hero ROMs and GREAT for everyday usage. I even had MLIGN 3.2B on my phone for about a month...then cyangoen released 4.2.14.1 and I wanted to try that out but right now I'm restoring MLGIN 3.2B.
for Android 1.6- I will say the latest Cyanogen with the RAM hack or the latest Super D.
Cyanogen- He lets you actually choose if you want the RAM hack or not. If you want the RAM hack then flash the right file via terminal. He has a Nexus One now so he is deving for the g1/mt3g and the Nexus One but he will still dev for the g1/mt3g.
Super D- Pretty good ROM. It is a mixture of Dwang and Cyanogen so it is pretty fast but I found that you can't really run more than 4 apps before it slows down A LOT. But this already has the RAM hack already installed so it is bad for 3D gamers but good for those lazy people that don't know simple terminal commands.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND DWANG RIGHT NOW. He never updated his ROM in like 3 months. I flashed Dwang 1.17.1 (the latest) and I found it way worse than Cyanogen and Super D.
Hope my lengthy advice helped.
Super D
I'm interested in putting the Super D version of 1.6 on my G1 but I'm having trouble finding it. Does anyone have a link?
Thanks

The Usual Question - what ROM for me?

Hiya - I thought I was sooooo cool when I got my Hero - at last I had a fancy phone and I loved it - of course it turned out i was one of the last people to ever actually be sent a Hero and this is why I got a great deal, absolutely nothing to do with being a good customer
So I have my Hero until Jan/feb 2012 - I still love it and it does pretty much everything I want - play music, listen to audiobooks, watch the occasional movie etc however I think I need to liven it up a little by trying out a new Rom.
The phone is rooted and I am currently using Villain12 which has been great - I would not have changed if I had not been playing around with Launchers and no longer use Sense - much prefer ADW Launcher.
Anyway - what is the best Rom for me? - speed and battery life is important and also space for new apps (it must have Aps2SD built in) what puts me off Villain13 is that from what I read a lot of app space is eaten up for some reason. I would also like an Rom with lots of Skins or at least a few I can change it with.
Thanks for answering
CM 7.0.0 maybe?
i guess you should go and download the roms you can find and try them all for a few days?
but beware flashing is adictive x3
CM7 or something based on it e.g. Cronos or Elelinux.
Got some suggestions
I think Elelinux ROM would be great for you, really stable and fast with amazing battery life, Theme chooser and many other options .. really experienced developer as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932377
but as a matter of fact after using this ROM for a long while i missed Sense but the Gingerbread really makes it up until this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090186
Or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076772
is stable for daily use

Best overall

Anyone like me, waiting for a good GB ROM that is reliable and stable. Do you want fast FPS in games, highly apps compatible, fast fps internet video data stream, smooth launcher and no random reboot or FC. Look no further, I've tried every Roms and the best so far IMO is [ROM] [INTL] [WIP] DSC v0.55b. What do you think?
some of my friends here is used DSC too & have the experience like your
btw, is the ROM is being stable 'cause by the OLLEH ROM or the DSC it self?
because, as the Power ROM there also got the stable too (my other friend's experience)
so, what do you think?
I have been using 2.4.4 and its Been pretty stable. Decided to give DSC a try will let u know my experience with it.
Sent from my SuperStreak! ;-)
How is the battery life compared to the other roms?
I tried almost every ROM from XDA forum and I think that the differences between all roms are very small ... now, I am trying new ROM from Maxicet and everything seems to be OK, nice interface, fast and stable, no problem with widgets and Go Launcher Ex,camera is working(is not white), videos (mpeg4) is working too, wifi is working too, no random reboots, quadrant score is little bit smaller, around 1250, but HD games from gameloft,ea working wery good, so ... maybe I will stay with this ROM and dont go back to DSC rom ...

Kind of bumbed. Just got my brother's old hero for my daughter...was going to make it a cm7 media player. Well, hoping for cm9. Hope there is still enough support. Any recommendations for a rom? I have run cm7 and liquid sense. She uses my rooted evo on 3.5 sense and cm7 nook color all the time.
You might want to go with one of Jaybob's rom from TeamHeroC, they have always been fast and non-buggy. CM6 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731659
or CM7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090234 and also wouldnt hurt to throw in juwes RAM optimization script which can be found on Yaam. You can make these roms blazing fast and perfect for an alternative phone soley for music.
If you have experience with Firerats customs MTD partition ( http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Firerat's_Custom_MTD_Partitions_(HeroC) ) This is another great thing to add so you dont have to worry about apps2sd.

thanks
thank you for telling me where that was. brought a smile back.

Comparison

Hello,
I finally purchased a ZTE Blade.
After looking around for a suitable rom to put on my device, I can't decide which one it will be.
Since I like to do things good the first time, I don't want to try out all the roms.
I have been looking for a few hours now to find a comparison of the roms, but I can't seem to find one.
I have narrowed it down to 5 options, all with their pro's and cons:
Moldovan - Quick and very clean, no needless options.
Swedish Snow (2.3) - A copy/newer version of Moldovan.
Cyanogen - A bit slow, but more options (nowhere I can find which options are in this rom, that aren't in others).
Blue Ginger - Better 3g battery life (I always have 3g on).
Ginger Stir Fry - Fast, but not as fast as Moldovan.
Things I expect from a custom rom:
Enable tethering for my MacBook Pro
Better battery life
That it is faster then the stock rom
Things I am a bit worried about:
Stability.
I want everything to work, with little to no crashes.
Which rom suits my needs the best? I don't care about overclocking.
Check out the cm7 kang development thread in the dev section. The build byburgerZ had been the fastest and stable for me
i have tried fish and chips and cyanogen.
typically i like cyanogen battery is ok for me i specially like the music controls from volume button when the screen is off which no other rom has and it gives few extra frames per sec on games.
but on fish and chips it was smoother and i always had about 310mb ram free all the time which is not the case with cyanogen.
but cyanogen can be smoother if u use a different launcher.
Ok, now I've narrowed it down to Cyanogenmod and Swedish Snow...

I also had the same choice as you mate swedish snow or cyanogen. I chose cyanogen because it offers more features for us users to use like theme chooser to customize the rom appearance more and cyanogen settings which offer faster boot times than other roms and different features like tablet softbuttons and miui battery bar.
Do not get me wrong if you like a stripped down rom i would go for GSF or Swedish Snow.
