Screen not working - How to download data - Touch CDMA General

My wife's Touch (on Win 6.1) screen is not working; it seems that both digitizer and screen have gone bad.
We have received replacement phone but I need to download data from her broken phone (such as pics/contacts/footprints) before we swap replacement phone with broken phone and ship broken phone back.
Phone is not visible on ActiveSync (I think Phone as Disk Drive option was checked previously), so I can not connect the phone to PC.
Any other suggestions to download data from phone's memory to PC?

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I was looking for as far as controlling Touch from PC is concerned.
NFSFAN's ROMs have three connection USB options:
ActiveSync
Disk Drive
Internet Sharing
But yet, whenever I connect Touch to PC, by default it goes to Disk Drive mode without going through ActiveSync setting.
Or, is there any way to force ActiveSync setting remotely?

Tethering overrides flash memory?

I've never had the need to use WMWifiRouter as a 3G to USB connection, but my modem at home is dead and won't be replaced until Tuesday. 3 days is quite a ways to go without Internet! So, I used WMWifiRouter 1.51 to enable the 3G to USB connection for my desktop PC.
After I was done with the 'net, I turned off WMWifiRouter and unplugged my phone. I then realized I needed to upload a few things on my phone, so I plug it back in to use it as a storage device. Problem is, my computer immediately detects my phone as a tether rather than the storage device. I've enabled the option so my phone asks me what type of connection it wants to create, but my computer keeps forcing the tether instead.
I know it's the way my computer is seeing my Touch Pro 2, but I was hoping somebody else may have run into the same issue before and found a resolution.
Thanks in advance!
I just used WM last night as a test, and then finally sync'd up my outlook 2000 contacts and calendar today.
Are you absolutely sure that WM has stopped running? I know on my diamond, the task manager option would NOT show some running apps after it was running without a soft reboot for like 2 months.
I haven't tried a "storage connect" yet though, I don't think I've ever used that.
I am absolutely positive it has stopped running completely. I used the built-in task manager with SKTools to verify. Even after a soft reset on my phone, my computer still does it.
Like I said, I know it's just the way my computer is now detecting my phone, but I was hoping somebody here had the same problem in the past.
I find it a little funny... I used my phone as a temporary solution to not having internet at home and now it only leads to more problems
Try uninstalling the drivers that your computer installed for the TP2, it would be in the Control Panel->Device Manager . Honestly i have no clue which one they would be but by doing this your computer will have to reinstall the USB drivers for your phone and re-recognize your phone.
Tried it. My computer installed it as a modem, but uninstalling the drivers didn't help. My comptuer would still detect it every time and reinstall the modem drivers.
Hard resetting my phone fixed this. It's the worst solution, yes, but it still worked. Fortunately, it only takes about 20 minutes to get everything back in order once more.
Thanks for the help anyways.
UPDATE: Ran into the same problem again last night. Fortunately, I found a better solution.
I made the USB to PC connection automatically connect to ActiveSync and disabled "Enable faster data synchonization." Disconnected and reconnected my phone and I was able to use the Disk Drive option once more without having my PC automatically see it as a Windows Mobile Modem

Firstly, what operating system are you using on your PC?
Secondly, have you tried deleting the sync partnership on both your phone and the PC and recreating it?
Thirdly, try and connect your phone directly to the USB root hub on your PC and not via a hub.
The fact that the HD2 is identifying the physical connection suggest the problem may lie at the PC end. Recreating the sync partnership is probably all that's needed.
Hello
If you are using Vista or Win7 you need to download Microsoft Mobile Device Manager to get a successful connection. Once you download this and install all will be good.
There is an option (can´t remember where) where you can disable fast link for ActiveSync.
This fast option has created me a lot of problem.
i'm using win7, i reinstalled the mobile device.
If i disable enable faster data sync then I can sync the phone with the computer but if I enable faster data sync then the 3G band auto enables...
I have just in the last weekend somehow lost the ability to connect to any computer. I have an activesync connection with work and a connection via hsdpa to the server too, and then one via wmdc on my vista home computer.
All has been going swimmingly until the weekend when I noticed that it had stopped synching new appointments.
The computers (both) now no longer even detect the phone, although it does charge via the usb cables.
The settings are still set to sync on the phone (as opposed to say disk drive).
I've tried a bunch of things, and now annoyingly, have hard reset the phone, but no joy!! Now I have the joy of setting everything back up again... But still no synchronising with the computer.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Did you reboot the PC? I occassionaly have problems with activesync stopping working suddenly. It doesn't really like being unplugged sometimes and get's a bit ansy about it. I've found that sometimes a soft reset of the phone does it, but sometimes I need to reboot the PC.
I hope you did try rebooting the PC before you did a hard reset. At least you wouldn't have wasted your time with having to set up your phone again!
Yes did indeed! Restarted both. But the fact that it's affecting 2 computers suggests to me that it's something wrong with the phone, and not computers themselves.
HTC haven't been any help as yet - just haven't responded to my requests.

The fact that it still doesn't work after a hard reset leaves me at a loss!
You're telling me!
Before anyone asks also, I've tried different cables and different usb ports on both computers too.
Any other thoughts out there? I'm starting to think now it's something inside the phone - i.e. the usb port?
Fixed for me!
After having sent off the phone to HTC, it was repaired in 8 days and that was sending it to and from Sweden to the UK!
Turns out the usb connector in the phone itself was not working. 10/10 for HTC repair service!
If you use the XPP OS.
You must select ‘To enable faster data synchronization’ (i dont konw how to translated that, sorry my English.) under the ActiveSyuc.
If you use the Vista OS.
You dont select this option otherwise you cannt connect you phone to computer.
me too,..i can't connect with my pc... my computer show me found new hardware & need 2 install driver,...tell me what kind of driver need...? thank!!!

I had the same problem and 'solved' it by trying every other USB port, and (of course) the last one did it correctly.

To make Active Sync work
Turn off Setup\other\USB to PC\ActiveSync Enable Faster Data Synchronization
The all will be ok
SOLVED!! Joy, joy, happiness glow... . I removed AVG 9.0, restarted, reinstalled WMDC and the driver (all of which installed automatically when I plugged my HD2 in to the USB port), and reinstalled AVG 9.0 and… Voila, MAGIC! I had AVG configuered correctly to allow WMDC to make connections and pass through the antivirus, but I still had to uninstall it to get the driver to install. Sometimes antiviruses are stubborn!
hi i had the same problem try this go to settings on your phone all settings connections usb to pc and uncheck the fast sync box if that dont work theirs an option that is somewhere on your pc where you can choose the pc to search for an update driver for that device

I tried BOTH of those options prior to uninstalling AVG and no joy. Bytheway, I've switched to Microsoft Security Essentials and still have to uninstall MSE everytime I flash my HD2! UGH!

Phone is modem

Got a replacement phone yesterday and recovered from backup. After the backup was complete I was not able to run activateSync. The device connected fine and I could explore it via the PC just could not sync with Outlook.
I think the problem is the device thinks it is a new network device and adds a LAN connection. Being at work the firewall blocks it. I seem to recall a menu when I first set this up allowing you to set what happens when ActivatSync starts and how the phone should react. I did not get that this time due to the recovery from backup I suppose.
Does anyone know how I can stop this device from thinking it is a new moden and just sync?
Did you set the USB connection popup to ActiveSync? You've got the modem, Sync and mass storage choice, if modem is chosen it will obviously appear as a modem.

The options that you mention are in settings (or all settings, from the settings tab and then menu), connections, USB to PC. You can tell it there what to do when your device is connected to a PC via USB.
Hope this helps

ActiveSync silly issue

Hello everyone,
After spending with the dark side of Blackberry phone, I went back to WM because I was amazed by the HD2.
One thing I am not amazed though is my silly Windows Mobile Center.
In fact, I am using Windows 7 Pro. The first I setup partnership it worked fine to sync with my outlook (personal email account). Then I setup on the phone, my work email (i.e. exchange server setup for online activesync), and the sync with the server is working fine. But when I plugged back the USB cable to sync with my personal PC outlook (which is configured with a Gmail account), it doesn't connect at all.
The computer doesn't seem to see the device. And the phone doesn't seem to see the computer.
What I have done so far:
- Check and enabled in Windows firewall all the Windows Mobile Center program
- Uninstall and re-install the driver for PocketPCSync (under Mobile devices in Device Manager)
- Delete my partnership (but I can't recreate it since I can't see the phone
Nothing is changing. I can't sync with the PC at all. On the other hand the sync with the exchange server is working fine.
Is the problem due to the fact that I have a pc-sync with outlook using a gmail account, and an online sync setup with an exchange server?
It is quite an annoying problem.
Thank you for your help
Wouldn't your HD2 be connected in USB disk mode instead of ActiveSync mode? Do you have an extra disk drive appearing in the computer?
I just "fixed" this issue by performing a hard reset (power off then press both volume buttons for a couple of secs until you get the confirmation screen).
Warning: It does erase all your settings, apps and files that aren't on the SD card, but contacts, photos, messages and the like can at least be synced using the Microsoft My Phone app.
After that, Device Centre/ActiveSync connects, and you can re-sync with myphone.
I was wondering if it was a dodgy registry value that caused the crash, but I'm no closer to knowing.
Oh yes: I did try all the options like "faster transfer" and DMA/IP Transport, etc. it was definitely set on ActiveSync mode, and I tried XP Pro/ActiveSync and Win7 Home/Device Centre. And I tried turning the firewall off!
Thanks for your reply guys.
@kilrah:
Yes I already tried to uncheck the checkbox below activesync usb mode.
Also, I have double check I am in activesync mode and not usb disk.
@mpaxton:
I know a hard reset would probably solve the problem but since I have to activesync everyday, it is not a long term solution. I really need to find what is the problem.
I had a similar problem which ended up being a faulty usb connector in the phone which HTC replaced pretty quickly (8 days).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590517
I had hard set without success and reflashed roms too.
Also of note, it was charging fine, just not connecting...
Finally !!!!
Thank you for your reply but I finally figured out my issues (actually there was two issues).
1/ Some services were not running so by using this tutorial (http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/services.htm thanks a lot to the author) I managed to find the services required which were not running.
2/ My second issue is the silly part. Since I have an ultra portable laptop (Sony Vaio P), when I am at home, I access it using "Remote desktop" from my desktop at home so that I can enjoy the big screen and bigger keyboard without having to plug anything to the laptop. And it looks like, if I am connected to the laptop on remote desktop and plug the HD2, nothing happen in windows mobile center, like if it isn't connected. But when I am on the laptop (and after sorting out the services issues I mentioned before), it works perfectly fine. So touch wood it will carrying working but for now it is working fine even after setting up the online sync with the Exchange server.
Not sure if number 2 is a actually a bug or a security restriction but maybe I can send my bill to Microsoft for the hours of testing

It is probably the setting for RDP on your desktop computer.
You can choose to share local devices and resources:

Urgently need to get data from Touch HD

I have a Touch HD that has a faulty touchscreen which doesn't recognise screen presses.
It's going to go back as faulty and should be replaced however I need to get the contacts off the device before it's sent back.
When I connect the Touch HD to a PC it defaults to internet connection sharing and I can read the sd card as a removable drive.
Is there any way to way to change the default connection method to activesync without using the touchscreen, all other buttons work?
Is there any way of remotely controlling the Touch HD from a pc?
I've arranged for the phone to collected for warranty but realised that I don't have some of the numbers off it so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion but unless I'm mistaken they rely upon connecting the phone to the pc via activesync and unfortunately I can't do this because when you connect the phone it remembers and defaults to the last connection type which was as a modem not as active sync.
If anyone knows a way of reseting this via the pc and sd card or using the other buttons such as volume up, down and power then please let me know.
Even if so ... Under Windows mobile Device Center you can use device without setting up and then use File manager to discover the HDD and SD card.
At least under Win7 I am able ...

Unless I'm missing something doing this allows access to the storage card as a removable drive but nothing else as the phone doesn't go into active sync mode unless you select it on the screen and I can't do that.
Is it possible to write and execute a function to the sd card (perhaps even autorun) that changes the default option on the phone to active sync?
hmm, that's a tough one, but I have an idea.
One thought that came to mind is to install My Mobiler on your PC. That allows you to control the HD via the mouse on the PC. Of course, it requires the active sync connection that you are trying to get to - so it doesn't really help.... EXCEPT that in your case, it might.
Normally, MyMobiler only connects when the phone is using activesync. However, when the phone is set to "share internet connection", My Mobiler attempts to connect to the phone anyway. If the phone is NOT able to connect to the internet (via 3G etc) then My Mobiler is successful in connecting to the phone. If the phone is able to connect to the internet, then My Mobiler does not connect to the phone.
So, try this.
Turn the phone off and take out the SIM card (that way the phone will not be able to connect to the internet).
Turn the phone on and wait until it is all booted up.
Plug it into the PC via USB.
In your case, it will connect as "share internet".
On your PC, open My Mobiler and wait for it to connect to the phone (it might install it on your phone for the first time too). Once you see your phone's screen on the My Mobiler window, you can control the phone via your mouse.
On the phone (via mouse), go to:
Start > settings (if on HTC Sense, then Settings tab > Menu > all settings)
Now go to connections > usb to pc
This might all vary depending on the ROM you are using, but the general idea should be correct.
There you can change the settings for how the phone connects when plugged in via usb. You can set it to always connect via active sync. Then, the next time you plug in your phone, active sync should start and you should be able to backup your contacts as usual or delete them off the phone etc.
I tested the steps and it worked. I hope it works for you. Let me know.
EDIT:
If My Mobiler still will not connect, you can change the settings of My Mobiler so that it will connect with the phone via IP instead of active sync.
To do so, in My Mobiler, go to "File > open settings" and scroll almost to the bottom of that text file to find where you would need to change the settings.
