******important At&t Data Plan Changes*****

hey guys starting the 20 of this month most data plans will be changed... lots of things are happening and the worst part is now the customer will be held liable for data used under the wrong plan so for all the people i have helped over the past couple and the people on the media max plan months PLEASE PM me so i can change things for you come the 20th. i just found out about these changes today and also you will no longer be able to add medianet unlimited or mediamax plans with a PDA IMEI... again if you have a mediamax plan you will be held liable for any and all data usage on a "wrong feature" if you have the 39.99 pda plan or any media max plan PM on or after the 20th so i can make sure that you dont get screwed over by the company... also while im at it please do not PM because you went over on something and need credit on your account.. please just PM me if you need me to make changes to your account also if your going to PM me the things i need right off the bat are
PHONE NUMBER!!!!!
the name of the account
and the last four of the social..
... im not very active on the board but i always try to reply to my PM's...
Umm, What?
Do you work for att or something. How you going to make changes to my account? Does this affect plans that have been grandfathered over from cingular? I would expect some sort of message from ATT before i got charged ANYTHING extra. i already pay 79.95 a month. If i get screwed there will be hell to pay for ATT.
Ummm
Anybody that posts private info here should be shot. Call AT&T...

n00bs! Use the search bar!
Yeah he does. He changed plans around for people here so that they could use the 19.99 MEdiaMax plan on their 8525. Pretty nice of him, made it easy for those who wished to do so. I did it by myself on the internet site and I had it for close to a year...actually I just cancelled it and installed nodata so that I could save a few pennies (financial situations...)
Anyway, you're fine. If you have the correct plan for your phone then no worries...it's for us that gave the fist to AT&T and paid for a cell phone data plan on a PDA.
@Gynga...
Man that sucks! I've heard about the IMEI sweeps before but I never had a problem. All the people that did get caught just played naive and got credited back... Looks like you've got some work to do!
The good news I think is that some of the plans went down by 5 bucks or so...
I guess when I go back to using cell data I've got to get the official plan.... bummer...
Why can't you just **cough**change your IMEI to an old broken phone you have laying around**cough**?
AT&T
More power to you broth'a. AT&T has just swallowed up my hometown wireless carrier Edge Wireless, and i am totally not looking forward to their grip on data and squeezing us customers for every fraction of change they can get

thanks for the support on the matter and yes data plans are droppi9ng the new PDA unlimited will be 30 but have no messaging andif you do want messaging its now 5 bux more than it was before... also the 5mb of data will be taken away so starting on the 20th it will be 1500 messages for 15 bux.. in my opinion the customer is getting screwed over on this one. i think that the changes were made to stop reps from flipping features there have been alot of internal changes to stop the flipping going on everywhere it sucks cuz i can still be flipped and get chargebacks but if i flip i dont get paid... oh well al good things must come to an end... to be fair if the people i helped out wanna make the changes come the 20th they will have first priority... but everyone that PM's me will get helped....

Okay what about the Unlimited smartphone would we have problems with that? I just want to make sure I don't spend an extra $20 if I don't have to.
When I got my MDA I went to a Kiosk where a friend works and he added MediaMax + Unlimited M2M txt for for a certain amount. That Kiosk is no longer there but the plan was added by an ATT Employee and not by me online, will my plan still change on the 20th? If so I'll have an MDA and an 8525 for sale shortly. I'll get out of the PDA phone market completely and buy a Shine or some other trendy slide phone.
Ok i have a question. The screen the at&t people use at the store and when I call in show me having my old samsung d807. I had the unlimited data $20 plan on that phone. I bought my 8525 out right about 8 months ago and have been using it ever since and the at&t people still see my d807. So are you saying soon they will see my 8525? i switch back and forth between the 2 phones every week. I use the d807 if Im going out for a night of hard partying and usally keep the sim in till the battery dies. How will at&t know which phone Im using if they dont know right now?
So if I am reading this right, this will only affect people that are on any of the Media Bundle plans not the people that are on the PDA plans?
Is this correct?
Gary
I think I was misunderstood... Say I have an old broken RAZR, If I were to CHANGE the IMEI on my 8525 to the one from my RAZR, would AT&T still know which phone I was using?

Att has a database of most (if not all) the IMEIs they have sold in stores/online. This can be confirmed by checking your online account. Anytime I change my sim into an ATT branded phone, it automatically updates on the account. The good news is that they can't tell foreign identifier, like my HTC TyTN, so as far as they are concerned - I have a razr. Their data plans are still absurd. The fact that the 3G network does not support video calls is also absurd. They milk the ignorant consumers for any $ they can. Go figure.

I work for AT&T too. The 3G network does support video calls but you need the right phone to do it. I'm pretty sure the sync, a737, and the slim can do it. But of course, you have too add it onto your plan. From what I've been told, WM6 was suppose to let us do video calls also, but I haven't seen it yet.
And Gyngabread Man, my hat is off to you, way to tap the feature market!

Hey thanks for the heads up! I have an iphone as well as my 8525 and i switch them out regulary, the sim card. Is there anything you can do for the iphone?
Thanks
I bought a PDA unlimited plan for 39.99, AT&T charged me but didn't put me on the plan, then sends me a bill for $1700 for one month of using the 8525 on the medianet plan! After initialy saying they can't do anything about it, when I screamed and shouted at them, they finally cancelled the charges.
Then the same problem happened the next month!
I'm now living in dread of the third bill.

I don't think you're right there - I bought a 3125 when I switched to AT&T - the only phone "they know" I have. However, everytime I switch the sim to my HTC TyTN (Not the 8525 - the TyTN) it automatically updates and reads I have an 8525 - it's strange though - it almost never updates the otherway - I can have the sim in the 3125 for a week and my online account will still read I'm using an 8525 - I think there system is designed to show you using the phone which has the greatest possible data consumption possible so they can bilk you on plans or something

[ANSWERED]T-Mobile Data Plan?

Now, I know there are lots of threads on this already and I took a few minutes skimming search results and didn't find this answered.
Basically, I was hoping to switch myself to the $10 internet plan on T-Mobile rather than paying the $25 internet plan. I bought my phone unlocked from Google.com and not subsidized through T-Mobile. However, when I asked to switch to the other plan, they asked me for my IMEI number on my phone.
Has anyone else been asked for their IMEI when switching to a different data plan? Do they actually have a database of the existing N1 IMEI numbers or are they simply trying to build one? Would I be better off grabbing an old Razr and giving them that IMEI then switching back to my N1?
Lots of questions! Haha.
Anyway, if anyone could shed a bit of light on this I would very much appreciate it.
No, a few months after the initial G1 release T-Mobile caught on to the "scam" and closed the loophole. You have to have an Android data plan now or nothing.

Hmm.. I was under the impression that this was solely for subsidized phones which they already had IMEI's for.
So, in the end, you're stuck paying the extra cost for the Android version of Web even if you bought it unlocked then huh?

Pretty much--don't know what to tell you I bought the phone outright since I didn't want to kill my plan to be forced on the N1 T-Mobile individual plan for at least 4 months...and I was forced to go onto the $25/mos plan from my $20/mos BlackBerry plan.
EDIT: They didn't ask me for what my IMEI number was though. In T-Mobile's system it will probably say I still use a BlackBerry device
The IMEI numbers update automatically in the system on a 2 day lag. So whatever phone you use today will reflect in their system on Saturday. As far as the $10 data plan, it will not work. It should say something to the effect that "you don't have the proper provisioning" or something like that. Basically your eating up too much bandwidth. You obviously had enough money to buy a Nexus 1, but won't pay for the premium data plan? That's the same thing as buying a brand new Ferrari and asking your friends for gas money to go out? At least I see it that way

And, as far as buying an N1 and not paying for the premium plan, the premium plan is great as long as you have a job to afford it. When you get laid off, not so much.

I am currently using a 5.99 plan on my nexus. fast 3.5g internet for really cheap price. it works just fine. they have my imei. they know I am using the internet like that but they don't do anything about it. by simply putting in the epc.tmobile.com apn you'll get full internet on any plan. but this only works for the nexus. no other android phone can use this because tmobile provides the phones not Google.

From what I have been able to find out, if you had the old $6 T-Zones, you were able to be grandfathered in when they cancelled the service. The cheapest net they offer now is the "Phone First/Web2Go" internet which is $10 a month. Essentially the same thing just 4$ more.

Good analogy. However, people don't get rich by spending money. If you can find a way to pay less, you do it. Some people made a financial stretch to afford the N1 and now cannot afford to pay for a premium data service.
Data service is data service and should not be dependent on device. At least I see it that way.
Hey, I'm all fur finding ways to pay as little as possible.
But let's not pretend an extra $15 is breaking the bank.
Hello, I just cancelled my cable TV after realising u rarely watch the 200 channels available.
And all the network channels i can get using a $15 pair if rabbit ears.
HD, .5.1
Next to go is the phone. Experimenting with magic jack this month.
All I want to pay for is high speed internet.
I'll save at least $120 a month
I think the grandfathering is BS because when I first got my G1 I had T-Zones on my old v3 and they made me switch to the newer data plan. To clarify, they had to do it because of activating the phone, so I don't know if you just buy it outright and don't tell them it could work.

I got my phone unlocked. I didnt give them my IMEI, they automatically know it once your sim card is in the phone. Ive had the 5.99 tzones plan for a while now, but this article should help you out http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/5381...ed-data-for-5-99-works-wiphone-and-nexus-one/
edit: this comment by a user might also be helpful.
"as an alternative, i was able to set this up without customer service's help. this was more than a year ago when I setup tzones to work on my treo 650. the trick was that i had an old phone sony ericcson t300 that i had purchased back in 2000 or 2001. I keep it around because if i have an emergency where my phone or my wife's phone stops working i can transfer the sim card quickly to a working phone to make/receive a call. So here's what i did:
setup my sim card in the t300.
make a call or send a text message; long enough to let the t-mobile servers detect that I have switched phones.
log in to t-mobile.com
verify that my phone is now detected as a t300. if not, click on the "not my phone" and change it.
next, adjust service plans, t-zones appears on the list.
add tzones to your billing cycle. make any additional changes you need to make.
save the settings.
change your sim card back to the original phone.
setup the phone for t-zones service"
T-mobile has two data plans.
1) Data plan
2) Sidekick data plan
They have a ton of different pricing for number 1) , the $10 smart web, the $15 dollar smartphone plan, and the $25 android plan.
(I'm not even including all the grandfathered plans like t-zone/t-mobile shadow/blackberry,etc)
The point being they are all the same, they use the same servers, they are all unlimited, so If you can manage to get any of those plans on your bill you will have full 3g/HSPA speed internet on your phone, regardless of what phone it is.

Unlocked Nexus S on tmobile 3g and $10 unlimited internet?

If you try the the cheaper data plans not meant for smartphones for an unlocked Nexus S, please write here to tell us how it goes and if it works or not.. Thanks!!
We'll find out on thursday.
My wife called T-mobile last week and they said they discontinued the "smartphone/non-smartphone" unlimited web distinction. They said basically, if you use less than 200 mb/month, you pay $10/mo, if you regularly go over 200mb, you pay $30

FWIW, I just checked on my nexus s, and the 5.99 tzones plan is working for internet access just like it did on the nexus one...so I think the $10 internet plan should work too.

Yeah, on phones that are tmobile branded, like the vibrant or the G2...you're going to have that problem.

myFaves on my bill

So I just got my very first Tmobile bill - and on the top it tells me to learn more about myFaves to visit the website.
I had thought myFaves was discontinued, but it would be a feature I really wish I had. When I sign into my account, it's interesting that the myFaves "Gallery" (I assume to add or remove faves) pops up for a split second the disappears.
I called Tmobile and told them I had seen the advertisement on my bill. She put me on hold briefly then came back and told me it was a discrepancy that they don't offer that anymore - which I assumed she was going to say.
Anyone else see this on their bill or on the website? Is it maybe a sign that it's coming back??? I sure hope so...
you can still get it added to tmobile. you just have to know how to ask.
call retention/cancellation dept and ask them nicely if they could add myfaves to your current plan because youre current minutes just arent enough and youre on a budget.
if the rep doesnt let you hang up and call again.
I added myfaves three weeks ago to my CURRENT EXISTING plan. when i called before that trying to get them to add it, they said they could only add myfaves option only if i switched over to another plan which ended up being $20 more expensive than my current one, which is grandfathered in from back 2005. the rep said that there was no other way to add myfaves except adding it to a plan that "supports" it.
Well it turns out that was BS cause when I called back the last time, the rep didnt have ANY trouble adding myfaves to my current family plan (all my 3 lines EACH get 5 free numbers).
like i said, you gotta find the right rep that will add it for you. but it can be done just like Tzones can still be added (course it doenst work with NS sadly).
I am currently on the 1000min family plan w/ myfaves for $49 + $10 for each add line. $10 unlimited FAMILY text plan $20 android 4g web. $5 tzones for another line with the iphone.
Hmm ill give it a shot. I'm on the promo plan with 1500 mins.
Wonder if they'd be more willing since they did in fact advertise it on my bill...

Native Hotspot works perfect on stock rooted with the GalaxyTools app. GalaxyTools is what most people are using to get native hotspot working. It's super easy(it's an app, so it doesn't get much easier than that), and it includes other useful features as well.
FYI, idone is the developer of GalaxyTools https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.galaxymenu
I know I have it. This is just another way to do it so you dont have to use an app. Correct me if im wrong. If you use Galaxy Tools and delete app you delete hotspot mod.

Look guyz... If you talk to sprint, native hot spot is now a free add-on. No more need for the hack.
Where did you here that. We called sprint last week. We was told $20 for 2gb, and $50 for 5gb. And 5 cents per mb overage.

I found it on my new bill and called sprint. Told them, HEY! I don't want that and I don't want to pay for it. Answer back was it's free. All you have to do is ask. Straight from sprint. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. My experience.
Well I did ask. Was told to pay for it. We hung up. Hacked it. Now it is free.
Its free in Galaxy Apps

Np. I was curious about it. My wife wanted it because att uverse pissed us off so we ditched them. She wanted to be able to pay bills on pc. This hack i posted here is perfect for her. She doesnt know anything about rooting phones and all these apps. For her less is better.... (Dont tell her I said that...roflmao). Im not giving up unlimited for anything. So hacking works for me.

Hot spot lets you share your data with another device. comes in handy if want to use pc away from home internet.

I found this in Sprint note 3 section. Used it on wifes phone. I will confirm this also works on note 4.
All credit goes to idone. Not my work. Just sharing here.
You MUST BE ROOTED.
Download sqlite editor. Open sqlite editor, select files. Then

Did this work on your wife's note 4?
I am running this mod on my note 4 now. Works great. I prefere this method.
The GalaxyTool method worked, overall. But I couldn't get it connect to my Surface Pro 3. I worked fine connecting to my ASUS 10" Android tablet.
I didn't have a lot time to trouble shoot. I'm thinking I may need to change security from WPA2 to WPA, but I don't recall if it was available. I do like the I was able to not broadcast the SSID; this doesn't work with WiFi Tether Router.
On Sprint. Having trouble with this on the Note Edge. Doesn't seem to be working.
Keep trying to update me and rebooting the phone. It even ended up re-provisioning the phone(back to hands free activation). I think it is ok now...but it took like 5 reboots to get there.
No hotspot though. I tried with Galaxytool as well. Did not work. Caused lots of reboots and reactivation again.
I checked the SqlLite entry change, and it looks like it removed the "dun" I had entered.
hmmmmm

Is the word "share" anywhere in your plan? If so, you have hotspot included. Sprint is putting a lot of us on these so called share plans. They are cheaper and have hotspot thrown in. The gf upgraded to the s5 in September. Had her plan changed yesterday to a "share" plan $20 a month cheaper and hotspot included. FYI

I heard about this. But even though I am in a family "share" plan, it is the unlimited data 1500 minute one. SO, no hotspot for me.
Correct. Paid hotspot add-on isn't unlimited even if you have an unlimited data plan, hotspot has a data allowance. If you use one of the methods mentioned in this thread then hotdpot works and uses data freely but do so at your own risk because it isn't rightfully provisioned on your account.
