I'm having a strange issue with my nexus one. This started a few days ago. I can not call my brother's cell phone with it. It will ring once and than I hear a beep and it just closes the phone app. I have not had this problem with any other phone number and he can call me fine. Has anyone else seen this issue?
I'm on t-mobile and my phone is not rooted also.
Thanks,
Dave

to rule out other possibilites have you tried to call him from a different cell phone or land line?
I can call him fine from other cell phones and from land lines. It even works if I call him on my nexus one using google voice. I still haven't tried switching my sim card back to my g1 to see if that allows me to call him.
to narrow it down, delete him from the phonebook and try again.
maybe his entry is corrupt and the dialler crashes whe trying to display the incall info.
Tried that as well. I deleted him, called the number without saving it and got the same result.
Going one step further (though I would swap and test with your g1 first if you can) wipe the phone and try again.
Try:
Settings>call settings>additional settings>caller id>network default.
It looks like your brown has some sort of blocked number rejector on his phone.
Update: I fixed it. I finally was home today to play with both phones and somehow I was in the block list on his G1. He claims he didn't even know how he did that. Is there a shortcut or anything that he could have hit by accident or in his pocket?
Ok, just got Mango loaded up on the DVP, great so far. I was in the process of setting up the Visual Voicemail to see how it works compared to Magikmail in which I love.
Well there is a problem when trying to setp it up. It states it cant setup my visual voicemail. It says I can call my voicemail and setup the visual voicemail that way. What option do I choose to get Visual Voicemail through my Tmobile voicemail?
Also has anyone else ran into this issue?
Call T-mobile up via 611 or http://my.t-mobile.com and add the visual voice mail feature. It is free
they cant set it up because the dell venue pro isnt in their system to activate the service.
Just tell them its a HTC HD7 and it will work...
i will try this
Visual Voicmail is still not working after adding this feature through the Tmobile website.
Anybody else having this issue?
Yeah, I'm having this issue also. I added it yesterday, so it might take a little while for T-Mobile's servers to register that I have enabled Visual Voicemail. Will update later when I try again later on today.
Usually, one would get a text saying the services are changed, so maybe wait for that also.
Probably takes a while to activate, set it up last night but would not activate on the phone but got a text today and the setting now sticks when enabled on the phone. Havent dont a real test though.
Edit: it works on my DVP.
I was using Magikmail in which I just disabled. Tried to setup visual voicemail once again and it still didnt work. I activated the Visual voicemail with Tmobile yesterday evening it should be all good to go. I have no progress in setting this up
i couldn't get it for my mom's DVP (family account) via the web site. But calling a rep quicky got it on her account and 15min later VM worked on her DVP.
Has anybody with issues with the Visual Voicemail been successful to get it up and running, mines still isnt working im going to give 611 a call again to see if they can work anything on their end.
Could it be that I forced the Mango update.
I set it up on the website a few days back after changing my plan. Got the update notice after plugging in the phone to Zune on Tuesday. VVM was there after updating.
So... not sure what the issue is. Perhaps a hard reset if nothing else. Or, now that you have it set up, revert back to NoDo and re-update.
Tried to enabled it after the Mango update. "Oops!"
Called 611. Tried a few times. "Oops!"
After 23 hours got text saying the change requested was effective. "Oops!"
4 hours after the text... "Oops!"
Reset phone via power button/shut down. "Oops!"
What do you mean by "hard reset"?
T-Mobile DVP...
^^^Same problems here man. called 611 and they are looking further into the issue and should be getting back with me. Never received a text stating anything. The VVM has been activated on T mobiles end but im continuing to get the Oops
Having this problem as well, called 611 on Tuesday after updating to mango, she enabled it for both lines, got the text on one phone, neither work as of Thursday. oops, oops and oops.
Do you have any voicemails? I have 2 saved. I could delete them - I was holding on to them mostly to test the VVM feature... (Of course, maybe whether you have any existing VMs may not affect it starting to work...)
Still havent heard anything back from T mobile
At the risk of stating of the obvious there are 3 things that I noticed that needed to be done to enable visual voice mail:
1) Enable the service on your account at the T-Mobile site. Make sure you select the option to apply the changes "today". You should also get a text on your phone right away saying that changes were made to your account.
2) Reboot the phone. Not sure if this was actually necessary but I couldn't get VVM to work before doing this.
3) Go to the phone icon then go to "call settings" under the sliding menu. Here is a slider to turn on VVM.
After these 3 things I was good to go.
I actually did receive a text stating my data plan have been changed. But those steps were taken and nothing has changed still get the oops
I called 611 several days ago. VVM shows up on the my.t-mobile.com web site as an active service. I rebooted the phone yesterday and just now. Still get "OOPS!" when I try to move the slider over.
What voicemail number shows for you? Mine is 1-805-637-7243.
...continued...
Just deleted saved voicemails and tried again. Still no dice.
I know I saw someone mention this either on here or another forum, but I'll be damned if I can find the solution.
I'm on T-Mobile's 100 minute plan and disabled carrier voicemail long ago. After moving everything over to my Nexus 4 yesterday I've been getting a persistent new voicemail notification. Of course it can't find my mailbox when it calls voicemail; it doesn't exist.
I can't see any way of clearing this. Anyone else run into this?

I had to call my T-Mo Voicemail leave a message, give it about 5 minutes. Hit the icon so it calls the voicemail then delete the one I made. Then switched to Google Voice lol. If you don't know your voicemail number, call your number from your phone. Assuming you didn't change any settings it should take you directly to T-Mo voicemail.

Well that's the rub. I called T-Mobile long ago and had them turn off voicemail altogether. I use Google Voice exclusively.
Edit: I should mention that it did this on both the stock ROM and CM10.1, though on CM it didn't start until after I rebooted the first time.
I had the same problem and I also had this problem with my Galaxy Nexus. The solution I found on both phones was that as soon as I rooted and flashed a new ROM I immediately installed Google Voice after performing the initial setup (before doing anything else). On both phones this prevented that persistent notification from ever returning.
Many others had this problem on the Gnex as well and all agreed that this solution worked.

So once it's there I'm kind of out of luck? Do I have to do a factory wipe and reflash CM10 for a chance at getting rid of it?
Go to your google voice account on a computer and mark EVERY voicemail that is not marked as read, read.
Solves your problem.

I haven't had any GV voicemails at all since powering on the Nexus 4 for the first time, either old ones or new.
I did change the voicemail setting to Google Voice in dialer settings then cleared data on the dialer app. That made it disappear... for now.

I had exactly the same problem after swapping SIM card to my nexus. My voicemail was disabled. Every time I call it I was forced to press * key and enter 10 digit number. I had to call T-Mobile to solve notification icon problem. They set up my voicemail again and left a message. After that I called and listened it, so the problem is gone now. Hope this will help you

Wipe cache and dalvik cache then fix permissions. After rebooting I bet it will be gone.
OP, any luck getting this sorted? I got an N4 for Christmas and I'm seeing the same thing as you.
I'm on the $30 prepaid plan, and had previously disabled my T-Mobile voicemail. Once I got a new micro SIM and popped it in my new phone, I received the persistent voicemail indicator. I called T-Mobile on Monday and all I could get them to do was to "create a report" of my issue - even after I suggested that they re-enable my voicemail to let me leave and clear a message. I'll try calling today to see if I have better luck stumbling across the magical combination of words to get them to do what I want, but figured I'd check in and see what sort of success you may have had.
I have the same issue, I am on Fido (Canada). I have the persistent icon every-time my phone reboots... I do have a voice mail, and I have no messages on it. I even tried calling myself from another phone, leaving a message and using my N4 to delete it, but it still there and persistent. I don't recall having that issue on my previous phone... (Gnexus)
I've also noticed that if gapps aren't flashed, the icon isn't there...the moment I flash google apps...it appears..
Any solution would be highly appreciated...
I've ran into this a few times and it's not always google voice, sometimes it's your carrier voice mail, you can also try setting your phone back to carrier voicemail, calling and leaving a message and then deleting it. It's fixed an issue on my work phone a few times.

Quick follow-up: My second attempt with T-Mobile support was much more successful. Within about ten minutes I had gotten my voicemail turned back on, a test message cleared (along with the notification), and the voicemail service disabled again.
From some reading around the web, it seems that new SIM card activations with T-Mobile default the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) to On, I guess in an attempt to get you to set up your voicemail service ASAP. They unfortunately didn't have the foresight to automatically disable that if the SIM is activated on an existing line with no voicemail service. Oh well, that was easy enough to fix
I'm topping this thread because it's the first one that popped up in my Google search on how to resolve my issue.
AT&T Galaxy S4
Google Voice voicemail
Just got my phone in and I didn't set up the voicemail properly I guess.
Got a notification of a new voicemail.
The message wouldn't go away.
When I dialed the number it told me to dial, that just went to my Google voicemail which said there were no new voicemails.
I tried a BUNCH of things. Here is what finally worked for me.
1) I went to https://www.google.com/voice
2) I disabled my Google Voice on my phone from that link.
3) Rebooted my phone.
4) Now when I called my voicemail, it went to my AT&T voicemail instead of Google.
5) From there, I was able to delete my voicemails.
6) Then I re-enabled Google Voicemail on my phone from the link above and now all is good again. No more notifications that don't go away.
This thread was a huge help in me troubleshooting the problem.

Do you mean in Settings / Application Data?
I tried that and it did not clear the indicator.
I needed to call T-Mobile, have voicemail turned back on, clear the indicator, and then call back and have them disable my voicemail service again so my calls would be redirected to my GVoice mailbox.
You should cancel it at your mobile operator. I had the same problem

I can't even get past 2 seconds when trying to answer a call. I can make calls with no problem.
I did a factory reset once and that fixed it however i don't want to keep going through that to fix it.
I tried from a land line, when i answer, it ends the call on the phone after 1 second. The land line stays connected with no sound or feedback.
I'm having voice call issues with my sprint s8 as well. It ends the call almost immediately. Can't make or receive any voice calls. Text and data is working fine though.

I can make make calls but not receive them...I called samsung, and they just said to send in the phone...
I dropped sprint a few years ago due to poor coverage, slow lte and dropped calls. I live right between DC and Baltimore and should be in a very very good coverage area but sprint just plain sucks but I didnt have the issue you describe. My calls would drop during almost every call but could go for a few minutes or more before they dropped. I am wondering if maybe your phone isnt provisioned correctly or something. I would be calling sprint and having them work with you on the issue. Good luck I hope you get the problem sorted out!

Yeah sprint isn't always the best for everyone but I've had them for over 15 yrs now with great coverage in my area. I've been holding onto my unlimited legacy plan.
I agree, I think the provisioning might be an issue. I'm planning a call to them this afternoon. I think it started after an update yesterday but not positive.

I don't think it's the coverage, it's like automatically hanging up after i hit answer. If i make a call, it won't hang up during a call. It's really frustrating that phone doesn't work as a phone is intended to work as.
Yes, this is happening to me. It will stay connected about 2 seconds every time. Then drop. I can make calls fine.
I was just starting to investigate. I went to Sprint store and they said check Google Voice integration. I had to leave because I only had a short time, but I am going to check that first.

After factory reset it worked, and that was after google voice was installed. I tried uninstalling google voice and it still does the same thing. Never had any trouble with voice before...so annoying.
Man.... Don't tell me. I just got everything freaking set. And without root.... No Titanium Back-up! ??
okay, i just factory reset it twice, now it won't answer a call at all. I can only make a call.

I think i found the issue. There is a new version of google voice. I was on google voice legacy. I unlinked my phone number with sprint with the legacy page. I linked the new google voice, it seems to be working now.
Fix: Sprint drop calls after two seconds.

jkluczyk, Thanks for posting your fix. It worked for me on my Sprint network phone. Here is how I did it -
- Open Google Voice on your desktop.
- Select Settings - Phone number - Under "Linked numbers" - Unlink your phone number or delete it.
- At top of the page it should say "Try new Google Voice". Select this and go to the new page.
- On the new Google Voice. Repeat steps above and reLink your number again. Should be fixed. Worked for me.
This is the only method that worked for me
Symptom: (All incoming calls hang up right at or just before the 2 second mark). The problem appears to be the association (or lack of) between Sprint and Google Voice.
1st I tried just un-associating/deleting my sprint number with google voice completely and removing my google voice account. This sort of worked, I could answer my phone normally but there was still one big problem. Now I had no voicemail and it would go to busy signal when trying to access it. Also, the phone would ring forever on the callers end if I didn't answer and never go to voicemail. Still no good.
Here's how I fixed it. This method worked for me.
Go to your google voice account - go to legacy mode if you are already in the new version (You must go to the legacy screen to completely remove your account) - go to settings - go to the "phones" tab - deactivate/delete your sprint association and email with your google voice account (In other words, remove everything as if you're starting all over.) You can't do this from the new version, only the legacy version! - give your phone time to update (sometimes up to 15 minutes) - Now setup your Google voice account again but ONLY USE THE LIGHT VERSION and setup voicemail only. This worked for me as my voice mail works fine through google with text and email transcripts and I can actually answer my phone. I did this several times trying the full version vs the light version and every time the full version caused the same issue hanging up with incoming calls, but the light version worked fine.
Haven't had a lot of luck with questions here for the last little while, but maybe someone has an idea as to why this would happen. My wife tried to call me 6 times yesterday. Not a single call came through or registered on my S7 Edge. She said all calls immediately went through to voice mail. When she got home, she stood right beside me and tried again and again, I was not notified of the call and it went right through to voice mail.
The phone had recently been rebooted. DND was not on. All sounds were on. The phone is not rooted and no apps like Greenify or anything like that running. After her last unsuccessful call to me, standing right beside me, I called her and it went through without an issue. She then tried to call me back and it worked. A minute or so later I received notification of her 2 voice mail messages from her previous calls. It's like the phone was in an extreme deep sleep. Which is pretty annoying considering I use the phone as a phone and I need calls to come through when they are made.
I took the phone into my carrier and they gave me a new sim card to try. I didn't have any issues with the previous sim card other than the issue from time to time of the first call I place being dropped and then the second call going through without issue. The signal is not fantastic in our condo, but I've never had someone tell me they have tried to call me and simply gone to vm before, so I don't know of any time of this happening previously. My wife had never had problems calling me before at all.
Anyone know what might have caused this?
No answers to this post,. Guess no one knows. Just another bizarre Samsung issue. Had it happen again today. My wife had to send me a Whatsapp message saying she couldn't call me. She said she called over and over again. No voice mail, no nothing. Never rang on my end or registered a call at all. Phone just didn't work until I called her and then she called me back and it worked. So sick of this thing working when it feels like it. Checked signal Not great, but no better than her signal and she never has any issues. She said she would call, it would just drop. No ringing, no voice mail, no nothing. Just call and then drop sound. Over and over again. Good thing this phone is only a $1000 device. Works great.
I don't have a solution for your problem, but had a similar issue when phoning my wife. It would ring on my side, but not on her side, then goes to voicemail. 2nd or 3rd time the call would go through to her to answer. Her phone wouldn't show any of the other calls. She was with a specific service provider and I moved her over to my provider. That is when the problems started as she was ported over to my provider. In the end it was on the provider's side where the problem was. They made some changes on her number profile and she could receive all calls and not random ones. Don't know the technical side of what the provider did, but they did admit they created her "call profile" incorrectly. Perhaps it's the same with you, that there is a setup on your profile that is not correct.
Thanks for the post, but I have contacted my provider. We use the same provider. Same settings. They reset everything for my phone and I reset everything on my end too. Still no solution. She does not have the same issues. Same phone. Same provider. Just sucks when you don't know if someone is trying to call you or not and if the phone actually works or not. I just want a phone that works all the time without having to worry about it. At the end of the day, that's all this is....a phone. If people can't call, well, that's an issue. I'm currently looking for work so it's even more important now than it's ever been.
Sorry to hear that you went the route of the provider and still no resolution. Maybe someone else can give light on the subject...
