I know I saw someone mention this either on here or another forum, but I'll be damned if I can find the solution.
I'm on T-Mobile's 100 minute plan and disabled carrier voicemail long ago. After moving everything over to my Nexus 4 yesterday I've been getting a persistent new voicemail notification. Of course it can't find my mailbox when it calls voicemail; it doesn't exist.
I can't see any way of clearing this. Anyone else run into this?

I had to call my T-Mo Voicemail leave a message, give it about 5 minutes. Hit the icon so it calls the voicemail then delete the one I made. Then switched to Google Voice lol. If you don't know your voicemail number, call your number from your phone. Assuming you didn't change any settings it should take you directly to T-Mo voicemail.

Well that's the rub. I called T-Mobile long ago and had them turn off voicemail altogether. I use Google Voice exclusively.
Edit: I should mention that it did this on both the stock ROM and CM10.1, though on CM it didn't start until after I rebooted the first time.
I had the same problem and I also had this problem with my Galaxy Nexus. The solution I found on both phones was that as soon as I rooted and flashed a new ROM I immediately installed Google Voice after performing the initial setup (before doing anything else). On both phones this prevented that persistent notification from ever returning.
Many others had this problem on the Gnex as well and all agreed that this solution worked.

So once it's there I'm kind of out of luck? Do I have to do a factory wipe and reflash CM10 for a chance at getting rid of it?
Go to your google voice account on a computer and mark EVERY voicemail that is not marked as read, read.
Solves your problem.

I haven't had any GV voicemails at all since powering on the Nexus 4 for the first time, either old ones or new.
I did change the voicemail setting to Google Voice in dialer settings then cleared data on the dialer app. That made it disappear... for now.

I had exactly the same problem after swapping SIM card to my nexus. My voicemail was disabled. Every time I call it I was forced to press * key and enter 10 digit number. I had to call T-Mobile to solve notification icon problem. They set up my voicemail again and left a message. After that I called and listened it, so the problem is gone now. Hope this will help you

Wipe cache and dalvik cache then fix permissions. After rebooting I bet it will be gone.
OP, any luck getting this sorted? I got an N4 for Christmas and I'm seeing the same thing as you.
I'm on the $30 prepaid plan, and had previously disabled my T-Mobile voicemail. Once I got a new micro SIM and popped it in my new phone, I received the persistent voicemail indicator. I called T-Mobile on Monday and all I could get them to do was to "create a report" of my issue - even after I suggested that they re-enable my voicemail to let me leave and clear a message. I'll try calling today to see if I have better luck stumbling across the magical combination of words to get them to do what I want, but figured I'd check in and see what sort of success you may have had.
I have the same issue, I am on Fido (Canada). I have the persistent icon every-time my phone reboots... I do have a voice mail, and I have no messages on it. I even tried calling myself from another phone, leaving a message and using my N4 to delete it, but it still there and persistent. I don't recall having that issue on my previous phone... (Gnexus)
I've also noticed that if gapps aren't flashed, the icon isn't there...the moment I flash google apps...it appears..
Any solution would be highly appreciated...
I've ran into this a few times and it's not always google voice, sometimes it's your carrier voice mail, you can also try setting your phone back to carrier voicemail, calling and leaving a message and then deleting it. It's fixed an issue on my work phone a few times.

Quick follow-up: My second attempt with T-Mobile support was much more successful. Within about ten minutes I had gotten my voicemail turned back on, a test message cleared (along with the notification), and the voicemail service disabled again.
From some reading around the web, it seems that new SIM card activations with T-Mobile default the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) to On, I guess in an attempt to get you to set up your voicemail service ASAP. They unfortunately didn't have the foresight to automatically disable that if the SIM is activated on an existing line with no voicemail service. Oh well, that was easy enough to fix
I'm topping this thread because it's the first one that popped up in my Google search on how to resolve my issue.
AT&T Galaxy S4
Google Voice voicemail
Just got my phone in and I didn't set up the voicemail properly I guess.
Got a notification of a new voicemail.
The message wouldn't go away.
When I dialed the number it told me to dial, that just went to my Google voicemail which said there were no new voicemails.
I tried a BUNCH of things. Here is what finally worked for me.
1) I went to https://www.google.com/voice
2) I disabled my Google Voice on my phone from that link.
3) Rebooted my phone.
4) Now when I called my voicemail, it went to my AT&T voicemail instead of Google.
5) From there, I was able to delete my voicemails.
6) Then I re-enabled Google Voicemail on my phone from the link above and now all is good again. No more notifications that don't go away.
This thread was a huge help in me troubleshooting the problem.

Do you mean in Settings / Application Data?
I tried that and it did not clear the indicator.
I needed to call T-Mobile, have voicemail turned back on, clear the indicator, and then call back and have them disable my voicemail service again so my calls would be redirected to my GVoice mailbox.
You should cancel it at your mobile operator. I had the same problem

I get the voicemail notification but if i retrieve the voicemail from a landline, the notification does not go away unless i call my voicemail from my 8125. anyway to turn off this voicemail notification?
I also noticed this yesterday. The notification didn't go away until I received another voice mail and checked it from my 8125.
I used to run the stock ROM on the 8125 and yesterday I went to the updated i-mate (maybe Qtek, not 100% sure) and I noticed this yesterday after I flashed. It might have been happening before but I am not 100% sure.
same deal
i can't get rid of this annoying voicemail notification...it keeps coming back...i thought it was smartskey causing the trouble...i tried uninstalling it and now i caused myself another issue to deal with...i deleted all traces of the file, but somewhere in the registry it's sending info to startup the program that was deleted on startup...good thing i copied the damn folder...just can't uninstall the cursed thing now...anyways i just called T-Mobile to see if they knew about this issue...remember that notifications from voicemail are sent from their servers, so i was thinking that it was maybe not an issue from the progs i was using...the conclusion is that there was a post about a voicemail issue...when you call your voicemail and hang up after finishing with the messages, it's suppose to send another notification to the phone that there are no more new messages: but this is not happening, because their voicemail computers are down and the notifications that are suppose to tell the device there are new messages are not being sent to our phones
btw...you are probably thinking what this has to do with you...well t-mobile, verizon, and cingular are all gsm...they are using the same networks :!: now time to fix the other things i did to my phone
Verizon is GSM? From whom did you hear this? I don't think that is accurate. They have been CDMA for a long time.
yea
my fault...you are right! i believe i was only thinking that the phones do have sim card slots as well as nextel, cingular, t-mobile, etc (feel free to correct me if i am wrong)...but on a side note my vc indicator went away finally
Voicemail Notification off... how did you fix it?
Hello,
I am getting the same notification message constantly and I have tried several things to fix it, but with no luck. What exactly did you do?
I have Smartskey installed too,
Thanks!
When ever i turn on my HD2, i get the notification i have a new voice mail. but when i check to see i do i have no new ones it just the old one this is even happing when i switched to SPB shell. Is this hardware issue or something with my Sim or T-mobile? This is really getting annoying.
Anyone? can help me with this?
I have noticed the same behavior. In my case i had one saved voicemail and everytime I restart my device, i get notificarion of a new voicemail.
I have something like this too, its not just you.
I also deleted my saved voice mail. Does this have to do with the software or hardware issue of HD2. Tomorrow i'm going go get my sim replaced. T-mobile needs to get on these issues and send a new update.
I called Tmobile. They even went so far as to completely delete and reset my voicemail account. Didn't fix this. I switched to visual voicemail. Didn't fix this.
Tmo said they created a "trouble ticket" but I never heard anything again.
Obviously not everyone i having this issue...but us select few are. We need to determine what we have in common and then we'll know what is causing it.
Mine happened from Day, the very first time I put the SIM in. I had a Tmobile number already from a G1 that died. There were no new voicemails when I switched the Sim so it came up wrong from the very beginning.
I had the same problem, it was very annoying. Since I've switched over to energy roms it's never happen. I'm guessing it was a glitch in the stock rom.
i was having the same problem then i call tmobile and activate the new sim that came whit my hd2 and did a soft reset and my problem was gone (sorry for my bad english)
I figured out a fix for this!!!
I was said to be the first coustomer to notify tmobile about this problem.. I dealt with it for 2 weeks and even got a replacement phone...finally I suggested that they switch out my sim card.. IT WORKED.. this is now a known issue it is caused by visual voicemail on the HD2. the ONLY fix is to switch out your sim and disable Visual Voicemail for good...
I dont even have visual voice mail on..But i do have a a sim card from last year..So tomorrow after work i will stop by my T-mobile corporate store and see if they can fix it.
Whenever I try to set up the visual voicemail, it directs me to the website, and prompts me to add it to the package/bundle, and I do so, but it says that there is an error. Any ideas?

The service has to be active on your account for the app to work. If you're having trouble doing it through the website, you can just call up 611 and have a service rep add VVM to your line, it takes them all of 5 seconds.
Is there some way to add in a fixes while using the AT&T Atrix on Rogers for new voice mail icon always on, sms having the wrong time and pay phone displayed for some incoming calls? I had none of these issues on my nexus, both cm and stock. Thanks.
*UPDATE*
After trying my sim in several different phones and not being able to recreate the constant new voicemail displayed I tried swapping out my sim for a newer one and the icon seems to be gone for now. I also asked the rogers rep to exclude "name display" for the third time and I hope it finally works.
The voicemail icon is not a problem for me. SMS Time Fix fixes the time stamp issue and calling rogers and getting them to exclude the "name display" option on your call display fixes the payphone problem.

Yeah I've tried that... I even tried that putting my sim into my nexus(the nexus didn't show an icon but I did it anyways).
The VM issue is a Rogers problem, one that I had on my old G1 too. You have to call them and go through all their useless troubleshooting. None of it works of course, so in the end I had to have my VM account removed and re set up and that fixed it.

yeah just seems weird, my nexus doesn't do any of these weird bugs. I really hope one of the scripters can fix these issues. I'm using gingerblur now, I wonder if some settings and stuff can be imported from CM or similar.
Hey guys, there is a known issue. Call in and ask that the CSRs please "exclude name display" from your account. This will resolve the incoming caller ID issue. A reboot shouldn't be required but wouldn't hurt.
For voicemail, please leave a voicemail and then check it. Either delete or save the message by hitting 7 or 9, and then hit # after to back out of the menus before ending the call. Too soon and the voicemail waiting indicator would stay. It irritates the heck out of me but you don't have to put up with it. It will go away if you do this.
Sometimes you may need to add/remove voicemail from your account. A CSR will do this and TSRs may be empowered to make this account change as long as it pertains to troubleshooting.. not too sure.
Any data issues too, get the TSR dept to reset the network connection from their end. They'll have you power cycle and it will fix data issues. My bud had a problem but I patched it up for him via Chat Support.
I'm on Rogers too and my Atrix is working flawlessly

I wouldn't call it flawless, but yeah once you have the proper apn's it works fine call wise and data wise. It's just some little things that need to be ironed out. Hopefully once the Atrix goes global we'll see that disapear.

Name display and if you use network time(or use sms time fix) your sms is way out. The network time is really useful for me as I travel a lot. The name display is also useful for knowing who someone is while I'm not at home so I don't pay long distance. The new voicemail thing is annoying and seems weird that it doesn't do it on my nexus, tilt or e71.

Ok, just got Mango loaded up on the DVP, great so far. I was in the process of setting up the Visual Voicemail to see how it works compared to Magikmail in which I love.
Well there is a problem when trying to setp it up. It states it cant setup my visual voicemail. It says I can call my voicemail and setup the visual voicemail that way. What option do I choose to get Visual Voicemail through my Tmobile voicemail?
Also has anyone else ran into this issue?
Call T-mobile up via 611 or http://my.t-mobile.com and add the visual voice mail feature. It is free
they cant set it up because the dell venue pro isnt in their system to activate the service.
Just tell them its a HTC HD7 and it will work...
i will try this
Visual Voicmail is still not working after adding this feature through the Tmobile website.
Anybody else having this issue?
Yeah, I'm having this issue also. I added it yesterday, so it might take a little while for T-Mobile's servers to register that I have enabled Visual Voicemail. Will update later when I try again later on today.
Usually, one would get a text saying the services are changed, so maybe wait for that also.
Probably takes a while to activate, set it up last night but would not activate on the phone but got a text today and the setting now sticks when enabled on the phone. Havent dont a real test though.
Edit: it works on my DVP.
I was using Magikmail in which I just disabled. Tried to setup visual voicemail once again and it still didnt work. I activated the Visual voicemail with Tmobile yesterday evening it should be all good to go. I have no progress in setting this up
i couldn't get it for my mom's DVP (family account) via the web site. But calling a rep quicky got it on her account and 15min later VM worked on her DVP.
Has anybody with issues with the Visual Voicemail been successful to get it up and running, mines still isnt working im going to give 611 a call again to see if they can work anything on their end.
Could it be that I forced the Mango update.
I set it up on the website a few days back after changing my plan. Got the update notice after plugging in the phone to Zune on Tuesday. VVM was there after updating.
So... not sure what the issue is. Perhaps a hard reset if nothing else. Or, now that you have it set up, revert back to NoDo and re-update.
Tried to enabled it after the Mango update. "Oops!"
Called 611. Tried a few times. "Oops!"
After 23 hours got text saying the change requested was effective. "Oops!"
4 hours after the text... "Oops!"
Reset phone via power button/shut down. "Oops!"
What do you mean by "hard reset"?
T-Mobile DVP...
^^^Same problems here man. called 611 and they are looking further into the issue and should be getting back with me. Never received a text stating anything. The VVM has been activated on T mobiles end but im continuing to get the Oops
Having this problem as well, called 611 on Tuesday after updating to mango, she enabled it for both lines, got the text on one phone, neither work as of Thursday. oops, oops and oops.
Do you have any voicemails? I have 2 saved. I could delete them - I was holding on to them mostly to test the VVM feature... (Of course, maybe whether you have any existing VMs may not affect it starting to work...)
Still havent heard anything back from T mobile
At the risk of stating of the obvious there are 3 things that I noticed that needed to be done to enable visual voice mail:
1) Enable the service on your account at the T-Mobile site. Make sure you select the option to apply the changes "today". You should also get a text on your phone right away saying that changes were made to your account.
2) Reboot the phone. Not sure if this was actually necessary but I couldn't get VVM to work before doing this.
3) Go to the phone icon then go to "call settings" under the sliding menu. Here is a slider to turn on VVM.
After these 3 things I was good to go.
I actually did receive a text stating my data plan have been changed. But those steps were taken and nothing has changed still get the oops
I called 611 several days ago. VVM shows up on the my.t-mobile.com web site as an active service. I rebooted the phone yesterday and just now. Still get "OOPS!" when I try to move the slider over.
What voicemail number shows for you? Mine is 1-805-637-7243.
...continued...
Just deleted saved voicemails and tried again. Still no dice.
I am rooted and have SS installed.
Just last week, my VM symbol showed up. I use google voice and have been for a few years now. It was the stock VM symbol. So, I listened to my messages in stock (not GV) and deleted them. The symbol still stuck. I removed the battery and restated, still nothing. I even went into the phone app and force stopped the phone app. The icon went away on my status bar for a few hours, then it reappeared!
Its just frustrating.....normally I would just put a piece of black electrical tape over whatever was bothering me.....this...well, I can't.
I have searched several forums and there used to be a setting somewhere that would just clear the notifications.
I have not changed anything with my stock VM or GV settings in years.
Not sure why this is happening all of a sudden.
Thanks in advance

Yeah every time I reboot it reappears.
Strangely enough this exact thing happened to me yesterday. I resolved the problem by:
Change VM provider in phone settings back to Verizon VM.
Open voicemail app and (if available) sign up for the visual VM demo (or call the VM number, you should be able to get in now).
You should have one or more VM's in the stock system, make sure they are all marked as read, notification should go away.
Switch your BM provider back to Google Voice and now you should be good to go.
If you signed up for the Visual VM demo, you can cancel it now.
This has worked for me so far, rebooted multiple times and the notification has yet to return.

Wow that actually worked, thank you so much. What is weird is that I did have a voicemail from yesterday that went to the stock app, not google voice which is strange. What caused it to do that?
