Haven't had a lot of luck with questions here for the last little while, but maybe someone has an idea as to why this would happen. My wife tried to call me 6 times yesterday. Not a single call came through or registered on my S7 Edge. She said all calls immediately went through to voice mail. When she got home, she stood right beside me and tried again and again, I was not notified of the call and it went right through to voice mail.
The phone had recently been rebooted. DND was not on. All sounds were on. The phone is not rooted and no apps like Greenify or anything like that running. After her last unsuccessful call to me, standing right beside me, I called her and it went through without an issue. She then tried to call me back and it worked. A minute or so later I received notification of her 2 voice mail messages from her previous calls. It's like the phone was in an extreme deep sleep. Which is pretty annoying considering I use the phone as a phone and I need calls to come through when they are made.
I took the phone into my carrier and they gave me a new sim card to try. I didn't have any issues with the previous sim card other than the issue from time to time of the first call I place being dropped and then the second call going through without issue. The signal is not fantastic in our condo, but I've never had someone tell me they have tried to call me and simply gone to vm before, so I don't know of any time of this happening previously. My wife had never had problems calling me before at all.
Anyone know what might have caused this?
No answers to this post,. Guess no one knows. Just another bizarre Samsung issue. Had it happen again today. My wife had to send me a Whatsapp message saying she couldn't call me. She said she called over and over again. No voice mail, no nothing. Never rang on my end or registered a call at all. Phone just didn't work until I called her and then she called me back and it worked. So sick of this thing working when it feels like it. Checked signal Not great, but no better than her signal and she never has any issues. She said she would call, it would just drop. No ringing, no voice mail, no nothing. Just call and then drop sound. Over and over again. Good thing this phone is only a $1000 device. Works great.
I don't have a solution for your problem, but had a similar issue when phoning my wife. It would ring on my side, but not on her side, then goes to voicemail. 2nd or 3rd time the call would go through to her to answer. Her phone wouldn't show any of the other calls. She was with a specific service provider and I moved her over to my provider. That is when the problems started as she was ported over to my provider. In the end it was on the provider's side where the problem was. They made some changes on her number profile and she could receive all calls and not random ones. Don't know the technical side of what the provider did, but they did admit they created her "call profile" incorrectly. Perhaps it's the same with you, that there is a setup on your profile that is not correct.
Thanks for the post, but I have contacted my provider. We use the same provider. Same settings. They reset everything for my phone and I reset everything on my end too. Still no solution. She does not have the same issues. Same phone. Same provider. Just sucks when you don't know if someone is trying to call you or not and if the phone actually works or not. I just want a phone that works all the time without having to worry about it. At the end of the day, that's all this is....a phone. If people can't call, well, that's an issue. I'm currently looking for work so it's even more important now than it's ever been.
Sorry to hear that you went the route of the provider and still no resolution. Maybe someone else can give light on the subject...

I'm having a strange issue with my nexus one. This started a few days ago. I can not call my brother's cell phone with it. It will ring once and than I hear a beep and it just closes the phone app. I have not had this problem with any other phone number and he can call me fine. Has anyone else seen this issue?
I'm on t-mobile and my phone is not rooted also.
Thanks,
Dave

to rule out other possibilites have you tried to call him from a different cell phone or land line?
I can call him fine from other cell phones and from land lines. It even works if I call him on my nexus one using google voice. I still haven't tried switching my sim card back to my g1 to see if that allows me to call him.
to narrow it down, delete him from the phonebook and try again.
maybe his entry is corrupt and the dialler crashes whe trying to display the incall info.
Tried that as well. I deleted him, called the number without saving it and got the same result.
Going one step further (though I would swap and test with your g1 first if you can) wipe the phone and try again.
Try:
Settings>call settings>additional settings>caller id>network default.
It looks like your brown has some sort of blocked number rejector on his phone.
Update: I fixed it. I finally was home today to play with both phones and somehow I was in the block list on his G1. He claims he didn't even know how he did that. Is there a shortcut or anything that he could have hit by accident or in his pocket?
Hi,
I have just witnessed the wierdest problem yet on ANY phone I have EVER owned.
The problem is as follows:
While someone is calling, I will suddenly start hearing the person calling me on the loud speaker of the phone WHILE its still ringing and the person on the other end HAVE NO IDEA that I can hear him !!!!!!!!
So I start hearing the ringtone AND the person on the other end both at the same time !!!!.
It happens randomly and it happens without any interferance from me.
The phone is using the Stock ERE27 with superboot and root.
I have no clue as to what could even cause this, or how its possible. If anyone has ANY idea........PLEASE let me know!.
Wow, is this consistent?
I'd say it might be a provider issue actually.. I may be wrong, but I think that unless provider sends a "connect" command that would start transfering the voice over to your phone, your N1 wouldn't be able to make you hear him/her.
Just thinking out loud. Maybe worth calling their support or going on their forums to see if other people have same problem and if it's specific to N1 or that provider.
I never had that problem with any of the phones (AT&T US)

Nope, its not consistent, it happens out of the blue and randomly. But it does happen quiet often........say around once every 2 days or so. I thought it could be provider related as well, but I have been using the same sim card for many years and I never had anything like this......chances are that this started happening from the provider around the same time i started using my N1 are quiet slim........it will have to be one hell of a coincidence.
I have 2 other friends with N1s and they are using the same telecom provider as myself, but they have no such issues :S

I had this problem alot with my old panasonic gd60 phone in Jamaica on the DIGICEL network. I figured it was cross talking interferance until I started hearing things I shouldn't

Old sim cards can cause problems. At least in the greater than 1-2 year range or so with tmobile and with 3g being added to the network lately. Get a new sim card in store and see how that helps... it shouldn't hurt anything.

That's actually kinda cool, I wish my phone did that.
That's bloody weird :S
well, I would rather find out why or how is this happening before I start changing sims. Because the timming of the problem is too close to ignore ! It only started happening like 2 weeks after I started using N1.
This happened to me last night for the first time. No other phone did this and i used the same sim. My sim is not old.
Finally !! Someone else ! So im not alone.......and this is looking more and more like a manufacturing problem with the N1s......and I would say this a major screw up!
I have the same problem as well, first only with 1 person but at the moment i can hear everybody before accepting. I dont have a problem with it, its good if they say something bad about you.
wow that's a weird bug! we just found a weird bug on the palm pre, where when you are on a call and someone else calls in with call waiting. if the current active call hangs up, the palm pre automatically answers the incoming call waiting call seemlessly so you dont know the difference! yet the phone still shows the original caller ID, and the call time counter still continues for the original call.
kinda a serious bug in a way, lets say you dont wanna answer that person's call, but the pre does it anyway.
It's happened to me on an old Nokia...(6 years ago) on Cingular. I think it's got something to do with the carrier and the simcard security. When it happened to me, it happened the other way. I was calling and I could hear the conversation before they picked up.
Does anyone know where I should be looking to find any clue as to whats happening in background thats causing this malfunction ? I would like to try and re-create the issue other phones.....but I will need to find out first if its software or hardware related.
Basically what im asking is........where do I look (log files and stuff like that) to give me hints ?
I'd like to see how to enable that feature!!! I wanna see what some folks say before I answer their calls!!!
This used to happen to me when I first bought the nokia 6600. When I got an incoming call, I usually press the silence button, hold the phone to my ear, and then pressed answer. But before I could press answer, I could hear the people on the other end, *****ing about me, calling to sell credit card, etc etc.. (lol)
I thought it was the phone, but few other people got the same issue.. with different phones.
it was eventually rectified by the carrier. (As I did nothing to the phone and all was back to normal)
So No one has any bright ideas to solving this mystery ? From the posts so far, it seems like a device issue more than a telecom issue......
lol. it happened to me once.
i have experienced this so many times well mostly with a very old sony phone. like the pervoius post mentioned, u change the volume while ur phone is ringing before answering the call. u put the phone on ur ears and boom.
i enjoyed it when i had that phone. always hearing ppl talking **** about you without them knowing is power: p
anyways my nexus one did it. stock not rooted not unlocked. using it in oman
I'm having about a 50% success rate with placing phone calls at the moment. I dial the other person, but before it rings on my side the call is ended. The other person gets one ring and a missed call. Has anyone had this before? Doesn't matter which rom I am using, I've had this issue for months on every rom ... seems partiually bad at the moment though.
Bump ... I promise I will only bump this once, just want to get visibility for another day. Am I the only person with this problem?
(I'll reply just to bump incase =p)
But on topic.
I've never had this problem, but I do have a problem calling.
It like kind of cuts the person I'm talking to off for like half a second than I got
to figure out what they said which is very annoying when talking to your GF >.<
Haha but yeah, I'm not sure about this but I think I had something similar
like this to happen to me once but it never continued.

I'll bet for one of the 2. I've never had any issues for myself.
1- Provider signal is dropping your calls.
2- Maybe you need to get your phone checked. Since the problem occurs on every ROM i would rule out software issues. I would go with a hardware issue and return it to be checked.
If it's unlocked try a sim from a friend with a different carrier.
Greetings Everyone,
I've had this issue with my S4 since I got it. During every phone call, at random times, it sounds like someone is hitting a button on their phone causing an annoying tone beep, like someone is pressing the 4 button. My phone is always locked during the phone call and I've asked if the other person could have hit the key which they always say no. This is HIGHLY annoying as it happens during every call. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the cause of this?
Thanks in advance!

Really strange then, never heard of this. Maybe you are calling a landline, and two people pick up on the other end, and one of them accientally hits some keys before hanging up.
I am out of guesses. :/

I always thought it was a problem with the other persons service, but I was on the phone with HP tech support for work and I was on speakerphone with the phone laying on the desk and the guy kept asking me if I was pressing the dial tone buttons. That's when I was certain it's a problem with something on AT&T. Or just a weird problem that both my S3 and S4 have.
Which dialer are you using? I also had this same issue on my Galaxy Nexus. Haven't had the issue on the S4 yet

I am completely stock just rooted.
So glad to hear I'm not the only one having the issue. I'm calling AT&T today to see what they say. Maybe it's just a jacked up phone. I'll keep you guys posted on what they say.
I have the same characteristic on my HTC One, so it's not unique to the S4. For the moment, I'm thinking it's just a tone corresponding to notifications, but I'll be following the thread with interest. Please report your finding.
ETA: Won't the joke be on all of us if we find out its the NSA listening in on our conversations?
I have the same issue with the key tones. I hear them randomly and it is so annoying. It all started when I got a warranty replacement Galaxy S3. I thought because the S3 might be a refurb. that is why it was doing this key tones. So I signed a contract and got the Galaxy S4 and the problem did not end. I had EIGHT different S4's, SIX different sim cards, did many hard resets, made two different google accounts, tried another phone, changed my phone number, and changed my account with ATT. IT STILL DOES THE NOISE!!!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!! SOMEONE!!!
Interesting... I had the exact same thing with my Sprint Galaxy S3. I hadn't pressed keys on my end, and the person on the other end (different people) always swore they hadn't pressed anything.
I haven't noticed it (yet) on my AT&T S4, but it is definitely not specific to AT&T. My S3 wasn't even rooted - completely stock. Maybe something in the more recent updates from Samsung that is going out to all the carriers?
Edit: Scratch my thought about Samsung, I see someone above mentioned the HTC One.
AT&T sent me out a HTC One to try on weds and the first convo I had with someone the key tones were there. The guy at AT&T thought it might have been my 4G LTE signal and he made my phone just 3G because he thought it was the common feature with all the phones but even with just the 3G it still does it. Im at a lost! Every time I hear the key tones I want to throw the phone against the nearest wall.
Have it on my S3, on Straight Talk AT&T sim
I've been searching and searching for an answer for this. I've had my phone since February, and this beeping only started in the past couple of months. Someone suggested it was the minute minder, but that is turned off on my phone. I've exhausted all options anyone has posted, and I guess I just have to deal with it. I'm starting to think it's the NSA thing...
By the way, my friend has heard the beeps on their end, as well but don't hear it on calls with other people so it doesn't seem to be their iPhone. Imagine that...still doesn't make me want one!
Notification beeps?

Looks like it might have something to do with "DTMF" Touch tones. In a google search, I am running across many people talking about this issue and addressing it as DTMF but haven't found a solution. Many search hits!
If anybody else wants to try and run it down further, search for DTMF tones during call or similar.

I have been searching this everywhere. I am starting to think you are right. I went back as far as 2009 though. Initially it was reported with VOIP phones. So I wonder if on the back end companies are beginning to integrate technologies.
Regardless it's annoying! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
Similar problem, with details.
I've been having a similar issue with key tone sounds during calls as well. I'm with PureTalk USA and have been fine for over a year now, then this started happening. The problem for me began with getting a new call forwarding number because my voicemail began having issues. I noticed I was hearing intermittent sounds like a key being dialed during calls. I checked my settings, nothing indicated the phone had any kind of minute minder active. Because the beeping is irregular that wouldn't make sense anyway. During a call last night, for example, I must have heard it more than 30 times in an hour, many of those times in clusters of 4-7 in the space of only 5 minutes. This happens with incoming and outgoing calls, to any carrier, to even calls to PureTalk customer service.
The other thing I wanted to add was that this was not just with one phone. My regular handset is the unlocked Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I took out the sim and put it into my old Nokia GoPhone, and the problem persisted. The Nokia is not a smart phone, and the setting have never been tampered with, and the last time I'd used that phone I had never had this issue.
PureTalk has done little to resolve this matter, stating that the problem is with the handset settings, even though I've explained that I've had this error with my smart phone and with a dumb phone, but they insist the issue is on my end. Since going to their tech support my data has stopped working as well, which was a consequence of their doing an account reset to attempt to resolve my problem. They again tell me this is an issue with my handset and not on their end, despite the account reset changing nothing on my phone. Other tech support ideas such as sending a new sim card and wiping my phone didn't help, not that it would have since the error is on multiple phones, through two sim cards.
Going to switch carriers, thinking TMobile. If PureTalk is convinced my issue is in my handset and continues closing the ticket I don't see that this will ever be resolved.

Well, if it is in fact the NSA eavesdropping on our conversations, then color me disappointed. You think they'd do a better job of covering their tracks. No sense in covert surveillance if you're gonna be announcing it every few minutes with an audible tone.

Hey all,
I recently bought an (AT&T) LG G2 off eBay, as my iPhone 5S just wasn't cutting it for me.
The day before it came I went into AT&T and asked for a new nano-SIM, it was given to me with no questions asked. The next day, I got it, put the SIM card in, and called to activate it. Everything went fine with customer service, and it activated with no problem, or so I thought.
Everything was looking good, and before I got off the phone with AT&T, I rebooted just to be positive. Once it was back on, I realized in the status bar in the top left it said "Roaming Indicator Off". I told the rep, and he said that was very weird, so we began troubleshooting. Around a half an hour into this, I received a text, I went to go respond to it and when I pressed send it said "No USIM Card". I told him about this as well, so we began troubleshooting both issues.
After about an hour he bumped me up to Android technical support, where I painfully continued with troubleshooting. During all of this I accidentally tried to make a call, and voila, it all went away. The status bar now said "AT&T" and I was able to send texts just fine. I told him about it and just said "That's weird, but awesome!". I rebooted the phone one more time just to make sure, and what do you know, it did it again. The same message came up in my status bar, as well as the inability to send texts.
There was a lot of things tried to fix it, including a master reset, the manual configuration of APN's, and a different text message center address. Trust me when I say, we've done just about everything possible. In fact, the next day he called me back with an LG rep on the line, they too couldn't figure it out.
At first they thought it was a hardware problem, but since making one phone call after a reboot fixes everything, they're leaning toward software. However, there was nothing else they could do.
I guess it isn't really that big of a deal, considering I can just make a call everytime I restart my phone. But I'd really like to get rid of the problem completely.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer!
-Andrew
