How can I configure Remote deskto mobile??? - HD2 General

Can anyone tell me or point me to a How to for dummies on how to configure and use Remote desktop on Windows 7 and my HD2?
Thanks.

Are you trying to connect to W7 directly via Remote Desktop from HD2, or did you mean something else?
Remote Desktop HOST is only included in the Professional, Business, or Ultimate versions of Windows. Home editions do not have Remote Desktop HOST, client only.
1. Activate the Remote Desktop feature in Windows 7... Click here for a website that tells you how, easy.
2. You need to make sure any routers/firewalls (not W7) allow incomming traffic to your W7 box on port 3389 (TCP). Click here for article on doing this.
3. Once all that is done you should be able to access your W7 box via RDP, if done correctly, from your HD2. Just run Remote Desktop (HD2) and put in the IP for your external connection of your router. If you don't know your IP, click here to find out. Your IP may change randomly, most ISP do this unless you have a static IP from them. You'll also need to enter your username and password.
This was a real simple outline of how to do this, in no way am I responsible for anything that may happen as a result of you following this. There are many possible issues that may interfere with this that I didn't go over, ISP blocking etc.
There are definate security concerns and procedures that one should also follow, however, this post isn't the place to discuss all of that. Having an exposed RDP port without any security is a mistake and I do not recommend it.
Hope that helps.

I'm trying to use Remote Desktop on my HD2 to connect to my home PC with Windows 7.

same problem and i am blocking no ports on my routers and my firewalls are all turned off on the local machines
*** edit *** triedit on a win 7 ultimate machine and it worked. Seems that even if you enable remote desktop on win 7 home premium etc it wont work. Had to be ultimate for me. Strange they even put the option in lesser editions.

Most problems with RDP are on the computer side. Try to connect to that computer from other computer, when it works, start trying using phone.

found a hack. supposidly this works http://www.mediafire.com/?0qznddamqkz unzip and run as administrator on your home premium machine
testing it out now ...

As I wrote, Home versions do not support Remote Desktop HOST. Yes, there is a hack - never tried it though as I run either Enterprise or Ultimate versions of Windows 7.

Setting up VNC or Remote Desktop

I've set up LogMeIn, but it's left me dissatisfied. I don't like the fact that it's website based, and it's a little slow for my tastes.
I've attempted VNC and Remote Desktop but, sadly, it's a little over my head. I'm by no means a noobie, but I've never dabbled in remote desktop type work before.
Is there a simple tutorial for setting up VNC or Remote Desktop clients for the Wizard? I could really use one. I've been trying to search for it for a few days, and I turned up absolute zilch.
Thanks!
both VNC and remote desktop would need to be enabled on your workstation / server / computer and make sure that either the required ports for VNC (port 5900+) and Remote Desktop Connection (port 3389) and open your firewall or the windows firewall is turned off.
if you are trying to use VNC / RDP, using your GPRS/EDGE connection then there's more tweaking which needs to be done ... this would entail you to go to your router/firewall and open ports 5900 (VNC) and 3389 (Terminal Services / Remote Desktop Connection) and point these ports to the right IP Address (which would be the IP address of your workstation).
if you have any questions about remote access just email me back ... i use my XDA Exec, Qtek 8500 and all the other PDA's i have to access my network at the office as well as at my clients all the time ... both through VNC and through Remote Desktop Connection ....
what program do you need on the wizard to do remote desktop?
right now i can remote desktop to my work computer from my laptop at home. is it similar? thank you.
There should be a remote desktop client already installed on your Wizard. Look in the Programs folder for "Terminal Services Client". It works pretty much the same as it does on big Windows.
As dumb as this is, I really need a step by step to help me out on this subject.
I'm unsure what is needed to get the Remote Desktop Client working. I have XP Pro. I have a "Remote" section under my home computers system properties. However, the one tutorial I could find asked me to go into Add/Remove Windows Devices and apply some sort of setting there. Upon doing so, I was asked to insert my Windows XP CD which . . . I don't have.
If I don't need that CD, I am open to doing either Remote Desktop or VNC. Whichever is preferable, I guess. I don't know which is more full-featured, which one is quicker, etc.
So I need help getting started. What do I do?
Hey Dr.Other
Okay here is a step by step to enable remote desktop on your computer ( much better then VNC in my book but I am sure others may disagree..so in the end its personal prefrence...I just like RD (remote desktop) better cause I can stream music if I wanted and its also encrypted (I think I read that some where) any way here it is for remote desktop.
Guessing you are useing Windows XP Pro
Right Click on MY COMPUTER ( on your desktop)
From the menu that opens up Click (Left click) on PROPERTIES
You will see a few tabs in a window called System Properties
Click on the REMOTEtab
Check the Box under the Remote desktop area that say ALL USEERS TO CONNECT REMOTELY TO THIS COMPUTER (its not in caps)
Next click on Select Remote User and click ADD
TYpe in the users name (what ever name you use to login with)
Hit Okay till your back to your desktop
Phone:
Start\Programs\Terminal services Client
under servers type in the IP address of your computer ( Hint try it locally 1st if you have wifi in your house and then click connect) its a bit difficult to naviagate and the colors are not the best ( which leads me toa question ...look at the bottem for the Q ) but it will do...I have hcked email looked at my fav places for a book name I had bookmarked but forgot etc. its really cumbersome but in teh end it may get the job done. Though Fair warning your icons and stuff will be bunched up on your desktop computer once you RD from your Phone
RD to your phone..... What ? can you remote desktop to your phone ?
I think so...if you enable terminal service port on the device you maybe able to connect to it from your computer ...but I am still trying to figure that one out
Question for every one: IS it possible to get better colors when connecting to your home computer via terminal services on your phone ? ...they look like 256 colors (eww)

Even if you could it would slow the process down so much it wouldnt be worth it. I wouldnt even have a background on as it slows to a crawl.

Remote Desktop WM6 T-Mobile Wing help

I have been searching for clarity thru islands of info in the forums as well as the net. Any help directing me would be sweet. I am trying to use my T-Mobile Wing HTC WM6 to control a computer on my home network. I have somewhat knowledge of having the server and client. Have read and installed programs. I want to be at McDonalds *or any wifi spot and log in to home computer. When I have a VNC server running it says the network ip address of 192.168.1.101 but I assume thats because its thru my network. I have went to what is my ip address.com and tried that with the port the server allows in the vnc viewer and had no luck. I think I might be too newb for such an advanced concept. I am somewhat computer savvy to alot of technical terms. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. I use messengers if faster communication is necessary. Thanks in advance to any help or thoughts.

a few thoughts,
1. what version of windows are you running. (e.g Xp Home or vista )
as Vista home basic and premium will not accept a remote desktop connection without a 3rd party hack to make it work only business and ultimate support remote desktop
If on XP home be sure to set allowing of remote desktop sessions to be allowed under the system properties area.
2. do you have a password setup on the user account that you log into windows on if no remote desktop will not allow access.
3. when browsing from a 3rd party network ( e.g mcdonalds or over GPRS/HSDPA ) you browse to your external ip not the dark ip of 192.168.1.x i use dyndns.org so i can just browse to the dynamic domain ip which is my external ip of my home pc
4. since you mentioned a dark ip i can only also assume your using a router at home. this means you either use such as LogmeIn/Hamachi and browse to the home pc's Hamachi IP ( e.g 5.5.100.50 ) or you will have to set a port forward in your router to forward any requests from port 3389 to the local IP of the home pc, ( e.g 192.168.1.100 )
I use static ip's in my router at home to ensire that the port forward will always goto my home pc's internal ip address. My particular router from netgear allows to have the ip of a specific machine be assigned the same ip internally based on it's ethernet adapter MAC address. making no changes required on the pc itself other them standard DHCP.
hope this helps.

1. I am using Windows XP Home. I have allowed Remote Access under the tab Systems Tab.
2. I only have a pw on the prog VNC server on the pc but no passwords for windows *should I? :| ... Then I try VNC Viewer the the Pocket PC *T-mobile Wing.
3. I am reading up on the dyndns.org site. I assume I need the free dns service for those with dynamic IP addresses. *i hope I have that.
4. I have Linksys Bef11s4... I believe I can set static ip's though its tricky for me. I am going to try for the pc I want to connect to. This networking stuff gets a little bit blurry for me. I understand that static means non-changing, therefore the pc to connect to in network will have same ip on restarts and things. I am familiar with the port forwarding options *do i need tcp and udp checked?... again any thoughts definately appreciated...
lastly, Do you have any particular progs you recommend for me to do this concept? I have a few installed, but not sure i need all.. I have pocketputty on pda and wm6 rdc... plus vncvier. On the PC i have VNC CLient and VNC Server *believe I only need server. Thank you for your time Cyberjak
1. Just go to http://www.logmein.com
2. Sign up. It's free.
3. Screw Remote Desktop and juggling internal vs. external IP addresses and DNS.
4. Use/enjoy...no work needed.
MJB
Logmein has like 6 choices... I am looking to remote access outside my network... also is this free? I see trials and stuff... thanks for help mjb
have the logme in installed on main and when i use pda it doesnt work...i installed cab and log in fine but when i go to remote the pc it takes my access code and then pops up with error message for menuPDA.html... i cleared history and cookies and tried to make sense of the forums... I am using the T-mobile Wing with WM6.... wierd... willing to try the other way if needed... i guess i could also try loggin thru a pc not home to the remote pc... i believe i saying this remote term correctly but i believe u understand. I am trying to use my PDA anywhere to control home pc.... thanks for help guys... i am willing to try whatever way works...
I've used Logmein on my MDA Pro, Ameo and now on my Vario 3.
You should first try to remote your PC while your sitting next to it. That way you can see any firewall pop ups that may be blocking you.
I have been trying when i am right next to it... I am using my WM6 to connect wi-fi to the internet thru my network.... the pc i wanna control is on my network...
It doesn't matter what network the PDA and PC are on. Logmein uses an internet connection.
yeah, tried a bunch of things to get logmein to work, and it always comes to the page of "403 Forbidden (0x5) menuPDA.html System error: Access is denied. (5)"
checked their forrums too...
guessing i should try going back to client/server manual entry... either way, any advice from you guys much appreciated.... It seems WM6 are known for incompatibility issues with RDC situations.... hoping not the case but...thanks again guys
got logmein working nicely, thank you for the help guys...

Remote desktop control with Diamond 2

Hi Guys,
After wasting a complete day on all of the different vnc and rdp programmes, trying to control my desktop computer THROUGH the internet WITH my pocket pc (HTC Diamond 2) I thought i'd just ask:
I won't get it to work, and I can't help but think that it's just a lame little thing I've forgotten. Nothing will connect. Logmein and other server services show me nothing. Logmein in particular only shows me a white screen when I try to login to my computer, nothing else...reloading the page doesn't help. The external desktop controller that came with my phone won't connect, due to reasons (the computer is not on for instance) I'm sure are not true.
I have a HTC diamond 2 pocket pc running WM6.1 and network compact frame (latest update) installed (3.5 I think it was.)
My computer runs vista 32bits and I've tried numerous servers and clients but nothing seems to work...
Just a few hours ago I though it might be the fact that my ip ain't static. So I've made a static IP using the portforward.com description for my thomson speedtouch 780 router modem. Tried everything again. nothing...
the only thing I can think of is that my proxy is screwing up all my attempts to connect my two most precious devices through the internet...but shouldn't logmein have passed those settings? (i remember pressing the "don't block" button when windows firewall asked me)
Top of that I've googled my *ss of searching for different kinds of clients, software, programmes and others, usualy being redirected to this forum. I even tried the bible thread about networking and everything, though my mind refused to read the whole thing extremely thoroughly...
To make my request and question very clear:
I want a program that can remotely access my desktop pc through my diamond 2 ppc, mainly for accesing and downloading files and folders I might need for school. Ofcourse full control for audio (so I can start music from my living room) would be nice, but it's not mandatory...
I'm running wm6.1 and have jbed installed on my ppc, and running windows vista 32bits on my desktop computer. I have a static IP and a port setup through my router modem on port 1986.
I've been searching for almost 20 hours with 1 lunchbreak in between....can anyone help me to an easy solution (including a step to step guide)?
thx in advance...
oh yeah, I think i've enabled the "Let other users control my pc" button in the external dekstop control options for vista, but most of the guides and FAQ's say there's another button. -one saying "let other people help me solve issues with my computer by controlling my desktop"
-one saying "let other people connect to my computer, doing whatever the hell they want" (not the actual sentence btw )
vista only shows me the first one, and I have it checked.....
Noone knows anything about this?
I'm also trying to look for a rdp server for vista, but for now it seems non-existent...tried ultravnc, and allthough it works when my diamond2 is connected through USB, as soon as I disconnect my ppc from the PC, it freezes. I did a reboot and tried without usb connected.....nothing....couldnt connect.
the only vnc viewer working on my ppc right now is the one from mocha or mochia.....but it's a trial version. other viewers won't work....
anyone?
LogMeIn with Diamond2 - problem
Hi, I used to be able to use LogMeIn in my old PDA running on WM5. But now after i've gotten HTC Diamond2, I'm unable use my remote access software anymore...
I've gotten my friend to try using his HTC Touch HD and it work too for LogMeIn.
A quick check reveal that our IE could be slightly different version.
Did you have any solution yet?
"Vista 32 bits" is unfortunately not very descriptive. What version is it? Not all versions include Terminal Services.
By static ip, do you mean that your external interface IP is static or that the IP your PC might have on an internal network is static? There's a HUGE difference!
You need port 3389 forwarded to your PC from your router. Enter your external IP address in the RDP client and it will get forwarded properly. Hell, I've got 3389 forwarded to a VM I'm running on my PC and it works great.
Diamond 2 can use LogMeIn
Finally got my HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz) to use LogMeIn. My friend who uses Touch HD and can use LogMeIn easily...
I guess the IE in Diamond 2 is not Pocket IE (PIE).
Procedure:
1) I use this software to toggle IE6 to PIE.
http://discussion.treocentral.com/treo-pro/177752-toggle-between-pie-ie6-free-app-cab-file.html
2) Login to LogMeIn PDA
https://secure.logmein.com/pda
3) Follow normal LogMeIn procedures...
Happy LogMeIn!!!
I use Logmein's Hamachi (that is a VPN software) that give me a direct p2p connection between my HTC fuze any my computer. Then i use remote desktop and use the ip hamachi provides and it work excellent.
PS you need at add you PPC hamachi ip in you firewall
vnc is what I would use it's a good general solution to connect
anything with anything mac, linux , windows you name it and it's free

help needed to set up Remote Desktop

can anybody tell me how to setup remote desktop from HTC to my PC (I am using Windows 7)
Step by step please guys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCs4GQma7IQ
With that guide I made it work, good luck.
I did exactly everything in this guide and even set a corresponding exception in the Windows firewall (also tried with Windows firewall off) - but the mobile remote desktop program always tells me there was an internal error... But what the heck could that be?
Dont bother the remote dt program is ****e, im currently using vnc which is a bit better, but rather lacking also.
Is it me or did that video not mention setting up your windows machine to allow connections.
Make sure remote desktop is enabled on your PC and make sure it is allowing connections from computers running any version of Remote desktop(2nd option) third option works between windows 7 machines but wouldn't allow my phone to connect.
Your error sounds like it is being caused by something on the phone end though so i dont know if that will help.
Those with remote desktop working can you get it to go landscape? Mine works fine except i can't get landscape mode. Also anyone know of a app that can send wake up requests to a machine? I have this on my laptop so i can wake my pc over the internet and then log in. Anything similar out there for win mobile?
allowing a connection through windows firewall alone is not helping, if you have other system securtiy programs that also has a firewall. or maybe your router has a firewall too. you should try and forward the right port (3389) in the software of your router.
I opened port 3389 on the router, I activated the correct remote desktop option on the PC (Vista), the IP is right (wrong IP adress throws a different error, so the program gets that far)...
I guess you have Windows 7 Home version
Have you tried using 16 bit high colour option? Mine said it couldn't connect when i turned it down to 256 colours.
Edit: Windows 7 x64 btw
OK on my windows7 x64 ive turned on remote desktop and set it to allow connections (2nd option) and i still cant connect, what do i type in user/pass on the hd2
-ive setup the portforwarding on my bethere box
-tryed both color modes on hd2
does it have to be over wifi or can it be over 3g?
Your user name and password for windows.
You MUST have a password set up on your windows account to be able to use remote desktop. If you don't have a password set up remote desktop and other network related access will not work. I.e using the phone to access shared windows folders.

ok ive added a password to my pc but still wont work, i think i tmay be something todo with this steps
2. Open a web browser, and type 192.168.1.1 to access your router. If you don't know the default username and password (usually admin/password), Google for it.
3. Enter port forwarding. Add a new entry using your local IP address, and the start/end port of 3389.

my router is a THOMSON TG585v7 and to log into it i need to type http://192.168.1.254 so i did and the only thing like port forwarding i can find is the Toolbox\Game & Application Sharing menu and in their i can type the ports but cant type the local IP address as their no where to add it, ive added a pic that might help you help me
If you are accessing the machine via your wifi(i.e your own network) you should be able to do it without any port forwarding.
So punch in your machines local IP and your username and password. That should work(make sure it is using your WiFi and not still connecting via 3G). If you wanted to be able to do it via 3G/wifi(external network) then you will need to get port forwarding working.
Edit: Port forwarding guide for you. I think this is roughly the same version of router you have just different branding.

so in the last part of the setup i need to manually define it as the local ip, still not working if that's what i should do
The last step is applying the forwarding to your PC. So you should be able to pick your PCs name in the drop down box.
Have you tried just doing it over your local wireless network(forget about port forwarding for a minute.) Enter the local IP(could also just try entering the name of the PC though im not sure if that works) of your PC as the computer then your user name and password.

[Help] Remote Desktop on HD + Vista HP!

Ive searched and found and searched again and again an again. Im using Vista Home Premium and want to enable Remote Desktop (RD). The first thing I found ofcourse was the not present RD service of Vista HP. I installed the on the internet circulating .bat for Vista HP.
Okay the steps I took:
1. Download and install: Premium.bat from the .zip
2. Enable RD in computer -> properties
2. Open poort 3389 and set it TCP
3. Restarted both HD and laptop
4. Wifi enabled on my HD
5. Started RD: Filled in the following IP in Computername:
\192.168.1.XXX OR \86.92.85.XXX
Dunno which one to use? Local? First is from my Acces Point/Router second is the overall IP, but what do I use?
6. Account: My account on my laptop
7. Password: Password of my account
8. Domain: Dont have one, so blank
Still EVERYTIME I get the error something is wrong and it wont connect. Someone got an answer? I downloaded Remote Touch but it didnt work either.
There was a .reg for premium called TRonPremium.reg but did not apply it yet, dunno what it does and it is a .reg
Please could someone help me cause this is pretty useful for me!
The remote desktop service is enabled by default in vista. No idea why you have needed to install anything extra to get it working. Sounds dodgy to me. Anyways you use the local network ip address, not the external address, and you don't need to open any ports (although on mine I didn't have a firewall enabled on the machine I was accessing, the firewall was on my router). You do need to put in a username and password for the machine you are accessing though. Doesn't need a domain name, as you say, it can be blank.
I'd say the troubles you are having are to do with the dodgy reg and bat files you have downloaded. You shouldnt need anything other than a bog standard vista install to use RD, no matter what version of Vista you have. You may have a service disabled that is required too. If you have disabled any of these previously you may need to have another look at them and re-assess.
reg files add information to registry. If you are unsure you should NEVER add these without knowing exactly what they do. Can be very harmful to your pc. If in doubt, always leave them alone.
Hello
I use UltraVNC on vista,
And .NET VNC Viewer on ppc,
Both free and running without any problem from ppc or any other pc
When I was searching the internet I found multiple website claiming Vista Home Premium does not support the full RD. To solve this according to a few websites, you could install the .bat made to add the correct service. I even found this on XDA threads. How do you re-do a .bat file? Dont know how to work with it.
The .reg im leaving alone, .regs are evil for PCs imo!
Will try it out today, with what you just told me. If it does not work, Ill try the VNC and VNC client, though I heard it was slugish and the connections fails very quick.
Thank! If you still got tips/tricks, be sure to leave them
Ok well my 64bit version of vista home premium had it all enabled so I assumed they all did. Maybe you're using the 32bit one. Seems loads of stuff was disabled in that.
I tried the various VNC programs but gave up with those because the connection kept timing out, and it had more options than was neccessary. I'd say VNC was best if you wanted to connect via the internet, but RD is best for home use.
Good luck with yours I'm sure you'll get it working.
